You should still be under warranty. First try rebooting the iPhone by pressing and holding both the Home and Sleep buttons at the same time until the Apple symbol appears, ignoring the power off slider. You should get indications of life within about 10 seconds while holding the buttons.

Standard troubleshooting...
Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
If still a problem restore with your backup.
If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.

I save a contact to my iPhone4. Within 48 hours the contact has disappeared. Have tried the "import" trick in settings. No good. HELP!!!!!! Have only had my iPhone for 5 months and I have no faith in it.

I really don't want to have to restore default settings by connecting my phone to my laptop every time this happens!! Surely if my 5 year old Nokia didn't lose contacts my iPhone should be able to manage the same.

I would 1st try to charge the phone at a different location than usual and if possible try different charging cords etc. and make sure that it is charging. If it appears to be charging let it sit for an hour or so and then try to power on again while the phone is still charging.

Did the trick! Not sure what I did to cause the screen to go numb, but this worked perfectly!!! I cleaned the screen and must have inadvertently selected something that locked the screen. This perfect solution kept me from having to run to the Apple Store. Many thanks.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer

You said "reset," so Meg assumed that's what you did. But "reset" is not a button; to reset the phone you must hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears. You may have to hold for up to 30 seconds, and if the battery was completely drained, you will have to restore iOS using iTunes on your computer.
