I have tried to upgrade my iPod touch , and cant even remember to which iOS  , and it didnt respond with the upgrade and does the loading logo until the battery life is gone. I tried restarting it doesnt work. NEED HELP

I have upgraded my iPod touch and it didnt respond to the upgrade. Cant remember which iOS i was upgrading but when i try to switch it on the apple logo comes up but than it just goes to the loading logo until the battery life is gone. I have tried restarting it , that doesnt work. I need help i am lost without my ipod please help. Any ideas besides restarting it ?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

could some boody guide me about how to upgrade an Apple iPod Touch (MC544LL/A 32GB 4th Generation) from iOS 4.3.5 to iOS 5. i have itunes 10.6.1. when i try to upgrade it gives me an option to upgrade it to iOS 5.1.1 but i dont want to do that as i have a custom app which can only run on iOS 5.0. Any suggestions would be welcome
    regards

    Kalpesh:
"Back in the day" one could roll back an iPod to a previous version because of how Apple controlled updates.  Later on, Apple decided to change the process.  That change makes it impossible to roll back to a previous version of iOS.
Basically, Apple forces iTunes to "phone home," and request permission to update your device.  At that point Apple's update server looks at your device type, device id, and iOS version.  If you are running an older version of iOS, and if your hardware is supported by the latest version, then iTunes is allowed to update your device.  Roll back are not permitted.  Period, end of story....
So then you have two choices:
    1.  Do not update your iPod to 5.1.1
    2.  Have the app written for 5.1.1 and then upgrade your iPod.
Oh, and if you still have doubts, let your mouse cursor do the walking and search the archives...  And Google will no doubt find TONS of info about this...

  • My daughter has a ipod touch 4 generation.  It is running iOs 6.1.3.  The problem is that it loses its data and reverts back to a new ipod at least twice a week.

My daughter has a ipod touch  4 gen.  It is running iOS 6.1.3.  It shuts down and reverts back to being a brand new ipod.  We then connect to computer and restore to a backup.  It works fine for a few days and then does the same thing again.  How do I fix this?  She got it for Christmas last year.  We don't want to spend the next few years doing this twice a week.  All help is appreciated.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store..

  • I upgraded my iPod Touch 4th Gen yesterday.  Now it won't play music, which is the main thing I use it for.  Over 11,000 songs [it's a 64GB model] -- will I actually have to restore the device and re-add all that music?

I upgraded my iPod Touch 4th Gen yesterday.  Now it won't play music, which is the main thing I use it for.  Over 11,000 songs [it's a 64GB model] -- will I actually have to restore the device and re-add all that music?
[Music files are still there, and I can play them on my computer directly from the iPod [just one track at a time] but not in the usual way, through headphones.]
On the Summary page of iTunes for the iPod, it shows 50-plus gigabytes of "Other" content and no music, which was not previously the case.  I assume this is related to the problem.
I can bring up individual tracks on the iPod and see cover art, but cannot play the music.

iCloud is free, iTunes match is $25 a year.
I had the same problem and when I went to Settings I had 0 songs, even though they were obviously still there since I only had 15GB free on my 64GB device.
I decided to do a complete reset/restore of my 4th gen iPod Touch, Bad move! I've been messing with it for hours, and it simply won't restore--it keeps hanging on a black screen with an Apple logo and a progress bar at about 10%, sometimes it goes completely blank and tries again, with the same result. (I've posted my question/plea for help here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19735862 )
I'm ready to bang my head against the wall! I can put the device in recovery mode, connect to iTunes on my computer, and get it back to the setup screen, but when I go through the process again and try to do an iCloud backup I get the same reset/restore loop.
I could start from scratch, but I really, really, really don't want to go through all of my hundreds of apps, reinstall them one by one, etc. etc. etc.
I thought that once I started using iCloud, I didn't need to sync with iTunes anymore--guess I was wrong.

  • TS1398 I am trying to connect an IPod Touch to a Verizon MiFi at home.  I have connected a computer, Nooks, and a tablet to this WiFi with a password and the IPod says it is unable to join.  Help!

I am trying to connect an IPod Touch to my Verizon MiFi Hotspot.  It has a password.  I have set up a computer, a tablet, and 2 nooks to this MiFi but can't get the IPod to connect to any network that has a password. Please help!

There are other things to try.
Turn WiFi off on the iPad, restart it and then turn WiFi on again.
Reset the network settings on the iPad. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings, that makes you have to start all over again.

  • Trying to get my ipod touch (1st gen) to upgrade to ios 3.1.1

Trying to get my ipod touch to upgrade to ios 3.1.1.   I get an error message 8288

Hello, I hope by now you have resolved the upgrade issue, but if not, here is what I ended up having to do:
“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”
Here is my original post explaining what I had already tried:
    “Hi all,
I got an iPod Touch 1st gen for my youngest son for Christmas as a starter. It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.
    Can anyone help? Please?!
    Thank you!!!
P.S. We have a PC, with Windows XP Home.”
Now, there seem to be a lot of different ways to solve the 8288 error, none of which are universal. Best of luck getting yours upgraded!
    Tiffany
P.S. The post by Sparkhi is a link to his blog going into a long story about how he wanted Apple to pay him for “solving” the issue….the one that apparently has been solved by multiple solutions. I’m not trying to bash, it just bothers me that he put up this whole story and finally, at the very end of his blog post, posts his solution.

    Hello there, Conorjl7.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some good, practical steps for troubleshooting issues with charging:
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476
    Particularly:
If your battery doesn't charge, or if your device shows a low-battery image, black screen, or "accessory not supported" alert, follow these steps.
Inspect the connector at the bottom of the phone:
Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.
    Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.
Make sure that the outlet you're using works.
Make sure that the Apple USB cable and Apple USB power adapter work.
Plug the device in to power and let it charge for up to 30 minutes. If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, try connecting to a computer's high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be on.
If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.
If the issue is persists, please contact Apple Support.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

With your iPod connected to your computer and iTunes running, select your iPod form the left pane, click the File menu in top bar, from there select "transfer purchases from iPod"

  • I have forgotten my password for iPod Touch 4G and it is now disabled. I tried connecting to iTunes but i haven't synced before and i need to enter the password before i can back it up so i can restore it. I don't want to lose pictures so please help!

I have forgotten my password for iPod Touch 4G and it is now disabled. I tried connecting to iTunes but i haven't synced before and i need to enter the password before i can back it up so i can restore it. I don't want to lose pictures so please HELP!

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased. That is how it works
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • I receive the follwing error message when trying to open my ipod touch/itunes "the itunes libary.itlfile is lockedon  a lockdisk or you do not have write permission on this file. How do I resolve this problem?

I receive the follwing error message when trying to open my ipod touch/itunes "the itunes libary.itlfile is lockedon  a lockdisk or you do not have write permission on this file. How do I resolve this problem?

    Repair iTunes Security Permissions
Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Securitytab and click Advanced. Use the Change Permissions... button grant to your account (or the Users group) and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to Replace permissions entries... which will repair permissions throughout the library. When complete switch to the General tab, click in the Read-only check box to clear it, then click Apply.
If you don't have the option to change the permissions then use the Owner tab and Edit... button to take ownership from an account with administrator privileges. Tick the option to Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.
Repeat with the media folder if it isn't stored inside the main iTunes folder.
If you've brought over the library from another computer you may also want to remove any "mystery" identities (S<string of dashes & digts>) that have come over from the old computer...
The images above are from Windows 7. Hopefully the system isn't too different in Windows 8.

Errors when updating leads to corrupt system files and this may be your problem. If you're using windows, connect your device to PC and run any third party app like Syncios. If it detects, you maybe in luck and try to back-up your data if possible. I hope that it won't and if doesn't, there is no other way to recover files. You should be restoring with iTunes and all data will be erased, or else your device may become unusable.

  • I have just tried to update my ipod touch and the update failed but it has locked my ipod.  All I get is a picture of the itunes logo and the usb lead

I have just tried to update my ipod touch and the update failed but it has locked my ipod.  All I get is a picture of the itunes logo and the usb lead.  I am unable to get the ipod to move and I don't know what to do.  I think I should be recompenced by Apple if I have to pay to get it fixed!

The logo is saying connect it to your computer with iTunes installed on the computer.  I assume when yo do this that the iPod is not seen in iTunes. to make iTunes appear try:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Place the iPod in recovery mode.  See:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Place the iPod in DFU mode:

If the iPod appears in iTunes restore the iPOd.  If not I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
