Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with networks that require any kind of authentication other than a WPA or WPA2 Personal password.
When the Mac OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the Mac OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac didn’t ship with Lion, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
Don't install the Thunderbolt update -- it's defective.

I am totally worried I am going ot lose all my data after trying to install update on MacAir. Cannot do anything error message saying panic ....."Unablet o find driver for this platform."
Hi Guys
No good news I'm afraid. I have been through ALL the system caches and files that were updated at the time of said issue. Reset - rebuild and even gone back to my TimeMachine copy from earlier this AM. Nothing! Can only assume it is something deeper in the /usr or var or private folders.....
I have cloned the system and core files (/usr, /private) etc etc to an external HD and it still recreates the fault. I am afraid to say I have no more time at the minute to look at so have put my machine back to 2 hours prior via my TimeCapsule.
I the absense of anyone else or, indeed, Apple fixing in the next 12 hours, will get back onto it from the cloned copy I have kept and see if I can find the offending file/files...
Sorry I don't have an immedaite solution. -
Solution to the Kernel Panic Unable to Find Driver for This Platform "ACPI"
All,
I have had this issue with the a few times and thus far the only solution from Apple has been to do a reinstall of the OS. The catalytic event has been software updates from Apple and in the case it was iTunes. In the current case I did not even have the option to archive and reinstall, only option was to erase and install. Needless to say much time has been wasted... Apple now thinks it may be the logic board and I am slated for a repair.
Fortunately I was able to solve the issue this time around here are a few notes for you:
1) I had back-ups so data was less at risk ( we all know about this right!)
2) I had a boot partition - "eDrive" (care of Tech Tools Pro) that was able use as a startup disk (Option key at boot)
3) I was able to test and access the dead start-up partition an everything was in good order.
4) a search of the web lead me to this article - THANKS to all who posted
http://www.macfixitforums.com/printthread.php?Cat=&Board=tiger&main=827659&type= thread
5) The article gave me an idea. Now here is the easy part. I launched the 10.4.10 Combo Update while active in the good eDrive partition and selected the dead partition at he target to update.
6) that was it hat was all... rebooted and everything worked again.
I am still going to get the logic board replaced... too risky.

My MacBook Pro stated that it needed to be updated. I clicked yes to restart the computer and update but when it restarted it stays on the gray screen with the apple logo and then pops up, stating "unable to find driver for this platform." What do I do?

I just updated my software, but seems my macbook got an error of unable to find driver for this platform..
Did you try more than once? If so:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -

Kernel Panic: Unable to find driver for this platform
So, my 1 GM RM, 1.5 GHz Powerbook G4 (15 inches) has been behaving wonderfully lately. Until, this morning, it locked up -- as it sometimes does -- after inserting a 3rd party SATA card and waking it from sleep.
This is normally not a problem. A reboot gets things back on track. Not today. The reboot stayed on the grey screen with the white apple logo. I tried booting off of a Disk Warrior CD and an OS X 10.4 install DVD. I go this kernel panic:
Unable to find driver for this platform: "PowerBook5,6".
But...and here's the best part...if I boot into target disk mode and hook the computer up to another similar Powerbook we have, the similar PowerBook boots fine using my drive.
So, it seems to be a hardware problem with my PowerBook. Any ideas on how I narrow it down?
Thanks,
GaryGlad you found your problem. Our kernel panic on our 15" G4 is a bad logic board. $500+ to fix it. Just found out yesterday.

I am trying to update 10.3.9 to 10.4.6 and when I insert install disc and hold down "c" the screen starts with the apple, then turns grey and says kernel panic or somthing like that, shows multiple languages saying to restart the computer as well as this statement:
Unable to find driver for this platform Powerbook 4,3"
I have a 12.1" iBook, 900 MHz PowerPC G3, 384 MB SDRAM
Is it possible to update from 10.3.9 to 10.4.6? How do I install it?
Thank you for any help!!!Hi Sig! Unfortunaly I dont have a solution with tiger maybe I will try to install the Leopard. What do you this about? Thx!

Leopard install fails with panic: "Unable to find driver for this platform"
I have an early 2006 20" iMac with OSX 10.4.11 installed. Running perfectly with latest Firmware, permissions repaired, just perfect. I now want to upgrade to OSX 10.5, so I insert the Leopard Install DVD, reboot, and then to my horror a kernel panic, screen goes black with message panic(CPU 0 ...): "Unable to find driver for this platform", with the usual boxed message about holding the start button.
Grateful for any help.I finally managed to install Leopard by using a 2nd iMac to read the install DVD, and using firewire and Target Mode as described in http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10327225-263.html?tag=mfiredir . This seems to imply that the kernel panic is due to some hardware fault with my iMac's optical drive.

Recently I was given an eMac that had been sitting in a cupboard for a couple of years.; When I tried to power it up I was getting all kinds of noise at first. I checked all connections that I could, then checked that the memory was correctly inserted into the memory banks, they wernt, so re fitted them then all the weird noises went.
Now when I try to start the Mac I get the first chime then the machine stops with the following error message . . .
panic(cpu 0): Unable to find driver for this platform "Powermac 4,4"
I've been away from Mac for a few years now and would love to shove my PC back in the cupboard where it belongs, so if someone could help me get my eMac going I'd be real happy,.
ThanksIt appears to be one of these...

Actually, either one can run 10.5.8
Tiger Requirements...
To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:
* A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
* Built-in FireWire
* At least 256 MB of RAM (I recommend 1GB minimum)
* DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation
* At least 3 GB of free disk space; 4 GB if you install the XCode 2 Developer Tools (I recommend 20GB minimum)

Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
* Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
minimum system requirements
* 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)
* DVD drive for installation
* 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
Classic/OS9 Apps no longer supported.
May be available from Apple again???...

Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...

You have to call Apple & likely ask for a Product Specialist to get it, if they still have it! Helps to tell them you have an iPad/iPhone & you can't run 10.6.
There are workarounds if the 867MHz CPU is the only hangup...

the mac mini wont boot up it says you need to restart yuor computer and that its unable to find river for platform can i download software free from the internet to fix this
What OS were you using on the mini before this problem started? If 10.7.8.9, boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions. Then reinstall the OS.

So I hadn't updated my software in many many months... I decided to so I could download games... And after my computer restated and had updated, it went to a grey screen with HTML coding. At the top it says "unable to find driver for this platform". No idea what to do please help!
That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it... -

I am running OS X 10.6.8 on a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mac mini and printing to an Epson WorkForce 630Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.
Reinstall the driver directly from Epson's website. If you are still having problems after the reinstall, you should contact Epson tech support for a solution and/or work-a-round.
