I just downloaded an app, it shows up with a circle with a sign through it and tells me it can't be opened?

I don't know why it isn't opening, I have searched everywhere for an answer and I don't know what to do, I've deleted it and re-downloaded it and I've changed the permissions on it but now I'm stuck

This is usually down to one of two reasons, either it is a very old application so old that it was written to run on PowerPC Macs and not Intel Macs, or it is a slightly less old application but still too old to run under Yosemite. It might possibly run under Mavericks or it might be too old for even that.
However I have checked and it seems that Lego Batman 3 Beyond Gotham, on the Steam Store it says it is recommended to use Yosemite which your message signature says you are running. On the Mac App Store it says it requires 10.8.5 or later. Where did you download it from? I can also see that on the Mac App Store the current version is listed as 1.0.4 and it appears you have 1.0. I can imagine that 1.0 is too old to run under Yosemite.

It seems you may need certain models of video card and to have your hard disk formatted in the standard manner which is case insensitive. If you have it formatted as case sensitive this is apparently not supported. What model Mac do you have? This would help us determine which video card you have.

You can re-download content purchased from the app store using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
Why do you want it on your computer, apps won't run on a computer.

OK. I will work backwards.
You certainly don't want to have to delete apps every time that they need an update, for any number of reasons. Losing data first and foremost would be a drag, but the overall hassle would be absurd. All things being equal, you should be able to update apps in the future after you delete them and reinstall them. I delete and reinstall apps all the time and I am also able to update them when updates are available for the apps. I just wanted to know if you had any success in any fashion installing apps.
Resyncing/refreshing the Apple ID/iTunes account wouldn't seem to be the issue either if you can download apps or other content from the iStores. Your ID is being accepted.
That leaves us with I'm not sure what. But I think I would try this trick fix and see if it helps.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>Off. Set the date one year ahead. Try to update the apps again. If you get an error message, go back to the settings. Correct the date and time (set automatically) then go back and try to update the apps again.

Try this
go to settings/itunes and app stores/tap on apple id/sign out
Reboot ipad by pressing and holding both the home and power buttons at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
When the ipad turns back on, go back to settings/itunes and app stores/enter apple id and sign in
Now try downloading app again
If that doesn't work, then
settings/general/reset/reset all settings

I have decided to dedicate this thread to the wonderful errors of Lion OSX. Each time I find a huge problem with Lion I will make note of it here.
Today I discovered a new treasure of doggie poop in Lion. No Save As......
I repeat. No Save As. In text editor I couldn't save the file with a new extension. I finally accomplished this oh so majorly difficult task (because we all know how difficult it should be to save a file with a new extension) by pressing duplicate and then saving a copy of the file with a new extension. Yet then I had to delete the first copy and send it to trash. And of course then I have to secure empty trash because if I have to do this the rest of my mac's life I will be taking up a quarter of percentage of space with duplicate files. So this is the real reason they got rid of Save As: so that it would garble up some extra GB on the ole hard disk.
So about 20 minutes of my time were wasted while doing my homework and studying for an exam because I had to look up "how to save a file with a new extension in mac Lion" and then wasted time sitting here and ranting on this forum until someone over at Apple wakes up from their OSX-coma.

There is no FT icon on the iPhone. You access FT on the phone from the individual contacts: click on the FT button in the contact you want to FT with.
Your Safari app is probably hidden in a folder or "lost" on a page. You cannot delete Safari. To find it: Swipe right from the first home screen. Type Safari on the search text input. To find the app:
Settings>>General>>Reset>>Reset Home Screen layout.

Try tapping on the icon and see if the download resumes. Check and see if you a stalled download in iTunes - a song or a podcast - something that did not complete in there. If so - tap on that download to try to resume.
If that doesnt work - reboot - hold down on the sleep and home buttons for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider - let the iPad restart. See if the download starts again.
