I'm a newbie, please be gentle with me...
My wife and I have been designing websites for almost 10
years. As fate would have it, we learned on Frontpage, and have
always used it as the 'base' foundation to build sites with. We
currently host/maintain approx. 10 sites, and now realize it may be
of greater benefit to swith to Dreamweaver. A friend gave us a
computer loaded with amazing software, and now we are faced with
the challenge of re-learning. This machine has Dreamweaver CS3
(along with the entire Adobe Design Premium CS3)
Questios: 1. Do I need to 'convert' the sites in order for
them to work properly once I edit them with DW?
2. Will I need to completely re-organize the site, or will
DW take care of that?
If anyone has done this, or can offer advice, it would be
greatly appreciated... and thanks in advance!
Are you *SURE* you are not using shared borders, or FP
navigation elements,
or FP form processing, or FP guestbooks?
If you are, then you can just begin using DW on your site.
Before doing anything else, take a couple of weeks to
gothrough the DW
tutorials, and also to study HTML and CSS. The more you know
about those,
the easier your transition will be. DW expects alot more from
you than FP
did, and as a result, you may find it much more frustrating
to have the raw
reality of web development staring you in the face rather
than the wizards
of FP.

1. I'd define a Dreamweaver site that points to a location on
your hard
drive for the local site's root, and to the current FP site
on the web as
the remote site
2. I'd use Dreamweaver (if your host supports FTP
connections) to download
the remote site to the root of the site you just defined on
the hard drive.
This will pick up all the pages *after* webbot action so that
shared borders
and all are already present in the page HTML. This will also
pick up all of
the server scripting. Note - in the event that you are not
able to connect
using FTP since some FP hosts block that protocol, you will
have to use a
third party 'site copier' like Black Widow, QuadSucker, or
WebCopier, (or
even the DW extension called SiteAssist from WebAssist) to
connect and
download using http protocols. Doing it this way will *not*
retrieve any of
your server-script code, if any (unless you have used the
WebAssist
extension).
3. I'd create a DW template for the pages, that captures the
"shared
border"
effect you had in FP.
4. I'd copy and paste content from each FP pages to a new
template child
page and then save the new child page with an easily
identifiable
nomenclature that is distinct from what was used on the FP
site (since you
are saving the new child pages into the same local site as
the FP pages).
5. When the basic site is completed, I'd upload the new DW
pages to some
staging area/webspace, and by using the browser, I'd verify
that the site
(as it now exists remotely) is complete.
6. Then I'd create a *new* DW site in a new location on the
hard drive, and
connect to and download all the files from the staging site.
7. You can now delete the original FP site from your local
system if you
want.
You now have a complete site (minus any of the FP extension
server-side
code) that has no FP footprint.
If you have used any FP server extension functions on the
original FP site
(form processing, guestbooks, tables of contents, etc.), you
will have to
recreate those functions in DW using 3rd party scripts, or
scripts that you
write yourself.

this is a good example of why ....
a) the forum should be a place where posters of questions and problems are answered by " paid " adobe employees...
Not necessarily with the understanding that the solutions or answers by the paid employees of adobe in the forum will be definitive and absolute, but that every effort is made to help the poster. It ( the forum ) would rise up from the level of " users helping users " to " users being helped by those who have passed the certification requirements to represent " forum " helpers... employed by adobe.
That changes the whole social and technical aspect of the ' users helping users' forum as we now know it...
why ?
Because , those who post on the forum must have a serial number and version number of their software BEFORE they can post a question in the forums. That information ( version number and serial number ) gives the forum the info they need to focus on the problem posted.
If the poster ( with serial number and version number a requisite of posting ) asks 3 really stupid questions or makes some really stupid post they automatically lose their ability to post any more on the forum. Then ( after they lose that right , they have to call the telephone numbers where people ask them questions to support them via India and so on ).
Meantime, those idiots who spend their time 'helping others ' for nothing over the years finally get a break and make about $ 2. 00 per hour aggravate for the time and skill and talent and intelligence they contribute to the " forums".. as proved by their MVP status etc.
how cool is THAT idea ? it becomes " users helping users " but the helpers are rewarded ( maybe less money for Jim Simon due to his prolific involvement ? - he will answer almost anything just to have something to say ) and the posters get weeded out as needed depending on their sincerity and need .??? -
Help !! - Cant install OS - Newb, please be gentle...
Hey all, I've just bought my first Mac - a nice shiny grey G4..(ok its not new.. but it'll do for the moment :-))
anyway, unpacked it, plugged it in, slipped in my new OSX CD (10.4 Tiger) and tried to install the OS (The machine shipped with a 10GB "cleaned" HDD)
I'm unsure about any of the conditions of the internals - at this stage I canot even troubleshoot them ....
BUT, I usually get as far as the install section of the CD menu, but if i go to change the HDD options (ie, mark it for deletion) it freezes ....
if I let it continue without changing the HDD parameters it usually gets to the "preparing for installation" section then freezes...
If i do a custom istall, it usually freezes after deselecting the printers and languages ....
any pointers ?
I can replace the HDD (but need to know the reccomended Jumper settings... nothing I do seems to work)
I WILL Zap the PRAM on the next try
am having some extra PC100/133 RAM delivered in the next few days . . .

JThe RAM that you need should be as follows:
PC133 CL3 3-2-2/PC100 CL2 2-2-2 168 Pin SDRAM DIMM

Note that PC133 RAM is backwards compatible.
I believe the ECC is "error correcting" for PC machines.
With regard to the hard drives- the Seagate iV ata drives should be okay- Are they formatted, and how? If not formatted, before running set up on the install disk, go to the menu bar, pull options, and select Disk Utility. Disk utility will start up and you should find and be able to format (HFS+/Journaled).
Also, are you connecting them (Seagates) over the 10 gb drive,(as a slave) or, in replacement of (as a master)?

Make sure the end ribbon connector is plugged to the master drive, middle is for slave (second drive).

One more note- Please do things one at a time. First get drive recognition, second get OS installed, then try replacing RAM, etc. Don't want problems masked by other problems.

Hi, iTunes recently accepted my vodcasts for listing. I got an url that takes me to it, but I cannot find it under the appropriate category. Is this because iTunes has too much stuff to possible list it all and should I just use the url to let potential viewers know it exists?

Someone please help me with mac & Elements 3.0
I'm a aged computer novice, so please be gentle with any answers (treat me like a 1st year school child when answering )
I run Elements 3.0 and have just purchased a Macbook pro, running Snow Leopard, because my children said its user friendly.
I have used this program on a windows machine fine. Ive loaded the software onto said Mac but when I click the file, Adobe starts to load then the following error message appears "Could not complete your request because of missing or invalid personalization information".
I rang Adobe support, had the phone disconnected on me, rang them back, struggled to get understood, told to download updates, I did, went to the website and tried to copy them into the file format, and it took me to a chinese takeaway website, only joking.. the same error message still appears.
I dont know what i'm doing, if i'm doing it correctly or should put the damn Mac in the bin/Ebay.
Can anyone out there help a doddering old ludditeIn order to use a program that is not written for intel processors (no macs had intel processors back when PSE 3 was created) you must run them in Rosetta, which is a part of OS X that emulates the older system architecture. In 10.5 rosetta installs as part of the OS; in 10.6 you have to install it yourself. Programs running in Rosetta are much slower than programs running natively.

still so popular..COBOL is still pretty popular; so is FORTRAN. C hasn't disappeared.
If that's your criterion, better stay away from Java.
The right tool for the job is a great answer.
I can think of one reason why you might prefer Java to C++: last time I looked, C++ didn't have the extensive library support that Java does. I had to buy RogueWave for database connectivity, etc. JDBC comes right in the Java box.
I will admit that I haven't kept up with the open source support for C++. It might match Java's, but I can't imagine that it exceeds what's available for Java.

First of all, I live in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Sometimes, I use a VPN to search on the web here. I purchased Toy Story 3 on my MacBook Pro 2011 OS/X - Lion through iTunes. I initially had trouble downloading it which may be due to being on and off the VPN but after a while it finally downloaded and shows up in my iTunes library on my MacBook.
Under my Apple ID account (which is the only Apple ID account I have), I look under purchase history and it shows that I paid for Toy Story which is where I got my Order # from. But if you go to the iTunes Store then to the Quick Links then click on Purchased, under all my Movies, it does NOT show Toy Story 3 as one of my movies.
Now when I go to my iPad (3rd gen.), Toy Story 3 does not show up under purchased movies (all or not on my iPad). It does not show up on my Apple TV as well. If I want to have Toy Story 3 on my iPad or Apple TV, then it says I have to purchase it again.
I have searched for help via Apple support communities but so far none of their solutions have worked for me. I have tried logging off iTunes & App Store on iPad and also shutting down the iPad. I also made sure that under iTunes Preferences>Store that iTunes in the Clouds purchases is checked. Can someone please help me with this? Your consideration is greatly appreciated. I just purchased this movie on Thursday, May 15, so just a few days ago. I have never had any trouble whatsoever since I have been in Vietnam. I have downloaded several movies and even music and they have all synced to my respected Apple products except for this purchase.

Newbie, having a problem with Input in Java

I am having a hard time understanding this.
I am having an awful time with Input into variables. The following code I have got where what I type in anything from the keyboard it stores it in the variable String "name", but when I do an If statement with the variable it does not equal when I want it too.
Example,
If I type in "yes" and it should display in the output
You said yes
science
It will do the first part, what I typed in but when I say
if answer == "yes" then display science
it always goes with the else statement.
It is little things like this that blows my mind. How am I going to tell it with an conditional operator if it does not look at them the same?
It says I typed in yes I know this by thr System.outprintln("You typed, answer);
but when I do an if answer == "yes" and inside the variable "answer" is "yes"
it will not match.
Why????????
Is it because I am also pressing the enter key and it see's this?
I have read the book over and over, I don't know what I am missing.
When you look at an Input example in the book they are almost always numbers like:

I have a live login and MS ID 4 my SkyDrive account but I only use my MS touch with 8.1, SkyDrive and office 365 for mobility.
And I still like to backup to my own server!!!
What would be good is if I can put all the software licenses and product keys of the software and keep a record of my mac addresses for hardware and even static IP's in a file or a secure location within the MS online store.
That's where MS wants me to get my computing needs from in future and I will always be able to retrieve it in future but what about the $$$$$ I have spent on software, hardware and applications prior to now???

I looked at dozens of support pages and forum blogs and tried for hours to get a copy to download - including incognito and other logins but because my default PC name is also my MS Windows live ID the same error was repeated.
I keep away from the non MS sites for these things and with good reason - there were heaps of similar users with the same issue or very close to it that had downloaded from a supposed MS copy from eValue or digital river etc and the next
thing was total corruption of the OS.
EVENTUALLY I found a LIVE MS chat on a support site in the US and she gave me a link to a slightly older version which will need updating and some reg edit changes but so far, so good.
The point is - what a crock !

i have apps to be updated but when i try to update them a message pops out saying "You have updates for other accounts, please sigh in with the other id". Can some one help me how can i still update the same with the new apple id ive created. As i dont have the access to the earlier id anymore.
You cannot. The apps are assigned to that Apple ID and there is nothing you can do to change that. You could choose to download them again with the new Apple ID, any paid apps will need to be purchased again.

You can also set it up in Mail so you don't need a browser at all if you want. -

OK I have iPod mini 4GB and I have the latest iTunes installed 7.02 or something I don't know anymore.
Anyway a sad iPod icon displayed on my screen a few days ago and I managed to restart it and to put it in a disk mode and then iTunes finally recognized iPod and I clicked on Restore and then Restore and Updated and after a few seconds during the restore process it says:
