I'm editing ppts in Keynote exporting back to PPTs and loosing "hyperlinks" to movie files

I'm editing ppts in Keynote but have to use them as exported ppts to teach college in a Windows-PC environment
Keynote 5.3
MacPro OSX 10.75
SUBJECT:
Loss of ppt function after opening in keynote then exporting as ppt
Educational ppts (Powerpoints) from Pearson play movies using PowerPoint or Powerpoint Viewer via a button located on some slides if the movies are located in the same folder as the ppt.
If I open such a ppt in keynote and immediately export it as a ppt, the ability to play the movie is lost; the click on the button just advances the slide instead.
Is there a preference in Keynote that might be set differently to prevent this behavior and allow playing of the movie from within the Powerrpoint application.
Note that the size of the file (via Get Info) is exactly the same after exporting the ppt FROM Keynote 5.3

Thank you Gary,
I did just that last night;
Select the graphic object ("Play" Btn").
Open the Powerpoint "tools" floating pallet wd.
Open the "Hyperlink" 'tab'
select 'link to file'
then browse (open finder wd) to find and select the movie file.
Click "Open" and a powerpoint function returns the full path to the file and associates it with the "mouseUp" msg handler within the script of the "Play" Btn, which I expect essentially sends a doubleClick to the movie file ( ie. opens it) and it will then play in a new window from within some other application like Quicktime or Media Player if that other application exists on your computer. (I'm getting a (sandbox?) dialogue window first, telling me,  asking me something) that needs to be dealt with. I'm using Powerpoint for Mac and OSX 10.7.5.
(I expect that will not occur using a PC and some version of Windoz in the PC ed conference room environment or using emulated Windoz 7 within the Parallels 8 application on the MacPro, but I have not tried that since I only have the Powerpoint viewer installed in that Windoz 7 system as of the moment.
I've never really used Powerpoint or Keynote until recently because I have used my own presentation application created in Supercard which of course is much more flexible; from the ability to utilze windows of any kind or number on any slide, to all the power of unix via shell scripts and a huge set of functions native to the Supercard suite of stable developement tools.
Any suggestions how best to integrate movies into straight Keynote presentations ?
Thank you again Gary,
-Dan

  • Editing in external editor: Save back as JPG and (auto-) add to library

I want to use external edit (in my case: Adobe Photoshop Elements) for editing features not available in LR3 (for example: skew) and easily save back as JPG. The source in LR3 is a DNG-image.
LR3 offers easy workflows out-to-external-editor>back-to-LR3 if you save back as TIFF or PSD.
But, I didn't find any easy or not extremely clumsy way to saving the edited photo back as JPG to LR3 and having it organized "close" to the original/source-DNG (preferably stacked).
    Any ideas out there?

Thanks for the suggestion! If have taken your answer to dig into my problem for just another time - with positive result.
The 'save as TIFF file' option in PSE after image export from LR opens a detailed dialogue box offering amongst others 'jpg compression' within a TIFF-container (never realized this before, never heard about this concept, my fault). So my goals are met: Having an efficient process to finetune some images in PSE, having the results automatically stacked in the LR library module and having a considerable lower file-size footprint as compared to e.g. Photoshops native or TIFF with zip compression.

  • Keynote export options using Quicktime and iDVD

I am not happy with the output of HD Keynotes exported to iDVD...they work well with triggering the events with a click but the fonts look blocky. There is no way to upgrade the export settings to improve the quality.
I'm trying to squeeze as much out of Keynote as possible... and it seems I'm hitting a few problems.
Exporting the same Keynote to QT gets the clarity I want...because I can select the higher settings...and I can even "click" to trigger the events in QT Pro on my MBP... but as soon as I burn it in iDVD the clicks fail.
I am hoping to combine the clickability of the export to iDVD movie with the quality of the export to QT movie.
And I am soooo close.... I have discovered that the "clickability" seems to be controlled by a layer in the file called a Presentation Pause Track (found when I look at the movie properties).
Have you come across this before?
My plan was to extract the track and then add it to the hi res QT movie!!! I burnt the resulting QT to iDVD and the clicks were there!!! But the were all out of sync!
I discovered the Presentation Pause Track is a different length than the QT export... and even when I've subsequently added the PPtrack using "add to selection and scale" it is still out of whack!
Your help, guidance, commiserations would be appreciated...
Surely there is a way to have my HD Quicktime cake and eat it too!

    Cheers Brian
I'm green with envy re the 8 core Mac Pro!
To add to the info: I'm trying to find out how you can export to QT and iDVD and get a 2 movies of the same length... which should allow me to copy the pause track over and not lose sync with the clicks.
My latest test involves a 2 page Keynote (HD res) and the resulting QT export gave me a movie of 43 seconds while the iDVD export came out 57 seconds...
That's with the default settings for slide and build duration of 5 and 2 sec. (could that represent 2 pages of 5 + 2 sec?)
iDVD lets you alter these settings but to a minimum of 1 sec for each... QT export doesn't let you change these except for a self playing movie... so I'm now testing a self paced QT set at 1 and 1 sec and an iDVD set to 1 and 1 and see what happens...
Do you think I'm on the right track or am I wasting my time?
At least 8 cores might help reach theat conclusion a little faster!!

  • How to export slideshow and soundtrack as one movie file

This may be a bit naive...I created a keynote presentation, with a soundtrack. When I went to export it, I clicked "include audio," as well as "include soundtrack" (since i wasn't sure if audio also includes the soundtrack.) The result is 2 .mov files, one of which is the soundtrack. However, I need it to be only one file, so that I can upload it to a school video website that expects the file to have both the sound and the images in one file. Don't quite understand what I have done incorrectly. Thanks.

    I just discovered this myself.
For some reason TWO files are exported. The manual says something like "If the slide show
contains a sound track, two movie files are created. The file with suffix "soundtrack" contains audio
    only and can be deleted".
But the other one does NOT contain any Audio.
WHY, Apple? Are you listening? Lots of people experience HORRENDOUSLY bad results when exporting from Keynote. Sounds are not in sync - or when exporting to QuickTime: missing all together.
What is the point in exporting a separate sound file and leaving the other one WITHOUT sound???
Can someone at Apple please explain the reasoning behind this.
Or even better - tell us how to actually get a working QuickTime export?
Seriously - I didn't leave PowerPoint behind for this kind of non-functioning.
Stop making silly software that doesn't work, and make tools that we can actually use to fill our needs.
Or is it all about phones, these days?

  • When i click on a photo file in windows , elements opens, then i have to go back into windows and click again to open file , earlier version opens program an file how can i get elements 12 to do the same?

The way I got around the situation was to write a custom folder action and attach it to my Downloads folder. The good thing about this is that it works irrespective of the browser du jour I'm using.
This way you can define any filetype you're interested in to auto-open when a file is created in the Downloads folder (or any other folder of your choosing).
It's not that tricky to add. I think I posted the code here many moons ago so I'll try and track it down...
Edit: It was a post to macosxhints.com that I last linked to: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050122214044554#comments
    Hope some of that helps.

  • Exporting only xmp information and not the RAW image file

Hi. I am using Lightroom 3. I imported RAW files from an extrenal disc and then worked on files adjusting the images. Is it possible for me just to export the xmp file instead of exporting all the RAW images again to my external hard drive?  I assume the xmp has all the adjustments that I have made to the image? Any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks

I tried control s  and I assume that is for a windows machine as nothing happens on a mac. I did forget to say that I am using a mac. thanks again.

  • Media Offline when Exporting back to FCP from STP. Lesson 10 in APTS book.

Hello, I am going through the Apple Pro Training Series Book by Martin Sitter found a road block in Lesson 10. The topic is conforming at that seems to work decently (except for garbled text in the right side of the Conform tab). My issue is when trying to export back to FCP. I choose to Send Files to FCP sequence. A new sequence is created in the selected project as expected. The audio is fine, but instead of using the video from the correct sequence, it seems to be trying to use clips from the older sequence. Additionally, all the video clips show up as Media Offline. I can reconnect media, but the problem is that it is the wrong video sequence. Oddly, in STP the video looks perfect. Is there an error in the metadata? can this be fixed or prevented? Thank you

    Barreltone,
I am exporting back into Final Cut Pro via Send to Sequence. I have been exporting from the browser of FCP (sequence), and not the timeline (clips). I'm going to try that tactic, and see if that works.

  • CS6 won't export movies with previously exported Quicktime .mov files in them?

On several different projects now, I've made videos which include previously exported CS6 Quicktime .mov clips in the timeline. When I go to export these new projects, Premiere will start compiling and exporting for a few moments, but then will stop and freeze up the program or even my Mac, or it will show an error message. I've tried changing my settings and everything. The only way my projects will export correctly is if they contain NO old .mov files. I'm trying to do a demo reel, so I kind of need those old files. They aren't even old, I exported them out of CS6 a few months ago. Why isn't Premiere exporting correctly and is there any way to fix this?

There are files, and there are files... the important thing is what is inside the file?
MOV (or AVI or MP4 or ???) is a wrapper that may contain many things... not all of those things edit well
Report back with the details of your file, use the program below... A screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/592070?tstart=30
    For Mac http://mediainspector.massanti.com/
You should also compare EXACTLY what is inside a file that works -vs- a file that doesn't work

  • Tbl exporting to Quicktime mov file

need to make a mov file from a timeline with SD dv avi video.  On a win 7 i7 920 PC machine--I can export as avi fine but one person wanted an mov file so they can re-edit.
I chose export,  Quicktime, Ntsc dv and the video codec 1st choice is dv25 ntsc when I export I get and error as below
Adobe Media Encoder--error compiling movie--unable to create or open output file-seems like I did make a mov file bak in CS4.
    Am I doing this right

Make sure that you have gone to
www.apple.com and downloaded QuickTime onto your computer.  This
download gives you the codecs you need to make QuickTime files.

  • FCP7 export problems - black frames and text irregularities

I'm on FCP 7.0.3 and have recently started editing stuff from my new Panasonic HDC-HS900.
I started a small project just to get to grips with the new workflow and realised that I had made the mistake of trying to import .mts files. However, I found a plugin from Panasonic's website which allows this but editing with the imported files is a nightmare because FCP starts running so slowly that it is impossible to make any kind of precise edits - the scrubber bar jumps all over the place and moving it forward one frame with the arrow keys takes about three seconds.
So, I realised my mistake and having discovered that using ClipWrap circumvents all these problems, I devised a new workflow and resolved to stick to it.
The only problem is that I showed the test edit to my girlfriend and her parents and despite it being full of bad stuff (I mean very rough edits caused by the slowness and audio problems that I couldn't be bothered sorting out also because the process was so frustratingly slow), they all liked it. So, whilst I would like to consign this experimental disaster to the bin, I need to at least iron out some of the problems so that I can give my girlfriend a copy which does not look quite so awful.
So, after labouring through this excruciatingly slow process, I try to export the finished thing only to find that the opening ten seconds, where I have used a slow motion sequence (which, ironically, is not an .mts file - it's a 10s .mov file I exported from FCP in order to convert it from 50p to 25p slow motion without losing frames) and a bit of text which dissolves in and out, there are a few single black frames and the text disappears momentarily several times.
Everything else is fine (apart from the awful edits!).
Having now left FCP to render the whole sequence, I managed to inspect it frame by fram much quicker and on the timeline it looks exactly as it should - the edit itself couldn't be much simpler; two layers - one text, one .mov file. dissolve the text in for one second, two seconds later dissolve in the .mov then a virtual reverse process. What could possibly go wrong?
Anyway, I have deleted all the render files and I am currently waiting for the sequence to re-render - estimated time: two hours.
All I want to do is wrap this junk up so that I can start a proper project.

I'll have to respond in an unordered fashion, just to try to make sense in my reply.
I was using ProRes 422 HQ because I found three options in ClipWrap and had to make a quick decision based on two minutes research and having found by trying it that 422 HQ files were only about 25% bigger than 422 files, I figured I had nothing to lose - especially as the workflow I WILL BE employing does not require permanent storage of the files and I now have 1TB external space for media archive storage and over 600GB internal space for ongoing projects. I might as well use the highest quality.
The reason I suspected the rendering files is that they were being used by FCP in the export of the project - evident in the fact that it takes almost three hours to save an unrendered sequence vs about six minutes to export a rendered sequence. Therefore, being unaware of the inherant problem you mention, I think it was reasonable to guess that a forced re-rendering might have sorted it out.
Yes, with 20/20 hindsight, it might have been quicker but, again being unaware of the issue you mention - which I shall have to look into - it seemed like a small problem which ought to have a had a simple answer. But now I know better.
I have, incidentally, discovered that all the dissolves I inserted have very similar problems.
And, to answer your first point last, I have already gone down that path - I'm just waiting for the results.
Could you perhaps point me at some article where I can read about the inherant problems of H.264, please?

  • How do I export a .mov file with timecode that matches the timecode on my project's timeline?

    Hi:
This seems like it would be an easy thing to figure out, but I'm striking out so far:
I have a long, 10-minute source video (actually a series of 16mm film clips that were telecined to a single 10-bit uncompressed .mov with continuous timecode by a film lab) on my project's timeline.  I need to be able to export small sections of the timeline to individual .mov files--and I need to be able to open the resulting short .mov files in a footage logging application called F5.  I'm currently trying to render these small individual videos as H.264 .mov files, since that's a format F5 can read.  Rendering/exporting the 'work area' selection from my project works fine, so that's no problem.
The problem I'm having is that timecode of the resulting H.264 .mov files don't match the timecode on my Premiere project's timeline--they always start at 00:00:00:00.  I don't want that.  If I render out (for example) a section of 00:05:10:00 to 00:07:00:00 on my project's timeline, I need the exported .mov file's timecode to start at 00:05:10:00 and run to 00:07:00:00, not restart at 00:00:00:00.  Is this possible?
I'm running Premiere Pro CS6.0.2 on a Mac OSX 10.8.2, all updates installed.
    Thanks very much.

works using " title" ( cause its alpha ) but doesnt work using black video...gotta jump thru hoops to do it that way..is nuts...so title works fast
so you put cti where you want to start, put title up there above your video, put timecode in, make it " generate" , put start time in, and drag title to the end of your work bar for export...and it should be good...
or of course ann's way is good too

  • Best practice for exporting a .mov file for YouTube

I am using FCPX 10.0.9 with a MacBook Pro. We are needing to upload relatively small-size high school football videos as .mov files to YouTube for my newspaper. I have been choosing the Export File option with the setting set to h.264, exporting the file to the desktop and then uploading that .mov file to YouTube. (I do not have Compressor installed on this Mac.) The other night the first of three files done like this uploaded fine, but the next two just kept processing and processing at YouTube and never finished. The following morning the files processed fine. Any thoughts about why ths might be happening?
And would it be better to export in another file format --.mp4 files -- instead that might cause less of a problem and which of the export options would be best?
    Thanks,
    Douglas

    douglas i wrote:
Am I correctly uploading a .mov file to YouTube by using the Export File command with the export setting set to .h264 then if I wish a reasonable size file for upload?
Sure. There are many ways to get videos to YT and yours is a reasonable approach.
"Reasonable size" should be thought of in terms of upload time. Again, YT will re-compress whatever you give it. So depending on how quickly you need to get it up on the Web, it's better to upload files that have more information than less information. (To that end, some folks upload very large Pro Res files; they also have a lot of patience.)
Just to let you know, the majority of FCPX users follow one of two workflows:
    1) Share>You Tube option and have FCP handle the uploading;
    2) Export as a Pro Res Master File; bring the master file into Compressor and apply the user's custom settings; upload using YT's uploader.
FWIW, I prefer the second workflow.

  • Looking for a howto for an applescript to batch convert PPTS to Keynote...

Looking for a howto for an applescript to batch convert PPTS to Keynote...
    Hi to group!
(cross posted this a couple of weeks ago to Keynote forum, no responses) Perhaps the query really belongs here...)
    (I) Have a whole bunch of PPTs to convert to Keynote, now and more as time goes on.
Looked into applescript to try to automate this a bit (could open PPT file but did not see any way to 'Save' file from a script).
Also looked into bash scripting/automator too -- way too many options to choose from. Help!
Anybody done anything similar to this already?
    TIA for pointers. //GH

    A word of caution.
I have not tried the workflow before.
I am not an applescript expert.
These steps were quickly composed using my basic knowledge in Applescript
What I was planning was to create a script droplet that when a ppt file is dropped upon it, it extracts the name of the file and sets it to a variable to name the keynote file later. You might have to modify it a bit to batch process multiple files.
Try going through batch processing scripts made for quark or Adobe photoshop ( Not sure if these exist on internet) to see how they have implemented the steps in applescript.
To GUI Script Keynote, do these steps...
All the code has to go in here
<pre title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor" style="font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: 10px; padding: 5px; width: 720px; color: #000000; background-color: #E0E0E0; overflow: auto">activate application "Keynote.app"
    tell application "System Events"
       tell process "Keynote"
-- insert GUI Scripting statements here
       end tell
    end tell
    </pre>
<pre title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor" style="font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: 10px; padding: 5px; width: 720px; color: #000000; background-color: #E0E0E0; overflow: auto">click menu item "Export…"  of menu 1 of menu bar item "File"  of menu bar 1</pre>
This will click the next.. button provided the default export type is set to PPT
<pre title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor" style="font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: 10px; padding: 5px; width: 720px; color: #000000; background-color: #E0E0E0; overflow: auto">click button 2 of sheet 1 of window 2
    </pre>
This will click the Export button on the next window
click button 1 of sheet 1 of window 2
This piece of code can be used to set the name of the ppt file using the extracted name in the first step
<pre title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor" style="font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: 10px; padding: 5px; width: 720px; color: #000000; background-color: #E0E0E0; overflow: auto">set value of text field 1 of sheet 1 of window 2 to "<string>"
    </pre>
May be there is a better way out there.
Thanks for red_menace for his Script formatter script

I want to open excel spread sheets make additions and export back to pc users.  Is numbers suitable for this activity?  I am using a MACBook Air

just read this in an other answer:
Pages can open docx files, Numbers can open xlsx files. Each can export to  can export .doc or .xls to the newest Word or Excel format.respectvely, but not to the more recent .docx or .xlsx.
Translation is not perfect in either direction. Numbers and Excel handle some similar features (eg. pop-up menus vs data validation) differently, and the translator cannot translate from one implementation to the other.
If much of your work is going to be transferred between your machine and Windows machines running either MS Excel or MS Word, with editing taking place at both ends of the tunnel, then you'll probably be better off with Office, or one of the Office clones on the Mac end.

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!
