CS6 won't export movies with previously exported Quicktime .mov files in them?

On several different projects now, I've made videos which include previously exported CS6 Quicktime .mov clips in the timeline. When I go to export these new projects, Premiere will start compiling and exporting for a few moments, but then will stop and freeze up the program or even my Mac, or it will show an error message. I've tried changing my settings and everything. The only way my projects will export correctly is if they contain NO old .mov files. I'm trying to do a demo reel, so I kind of need those old files. They aren't even old, I exported them out of CS6 a few months ago. Why isn't Premiere exporting correctly and is there any way to fix this?

There are files, and there are files... the important thing is what is inside the file?
MOV (or AVI or MP4 or ???) is a wrapper that may contain many things... not all of those things edit well
Report back with the details of your file, use the program below... A screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

You should also compare EXACTLY what is inside a file that works -vs- a file that doesn't work

MOV is a wrapper that can contain many different codecs. The message you get is indicative of a distribution codec inside the MOV wrapper. You may need to convert the material to an editable codec before importing.

  • Quicktime won't recognize MOV files?

QT won't open MOV files, and gives a -2048 error that says it is not a file it recognizes. I know other people who are able to open the same files fine on their Mac computers, so I don't think it's a problem with the file...

The -2048 error message usually means the file is MPEG-2 format.
QuickTime can't view MPEG-2 without additional software ($20).

  • InDesign CS6 "Failed to export the JPEG file. File cannot be written. Disk may be locked or full."

I get this error "Failed to export the JPEG file. File cannot be written. Disk may be locked or full." when sending small (3"x3") and large (40"x60") files to a printer hot folder. Sometime if I close the program and restart it will let me export. What could be causing this to happen?
I am on Windows 7 with 4GB RAM PC.

I guess the printer is grabbing the file before it is entirely written…
Workaround: Do not save to a hot folder. Move the files after exporting to the hot folder.

  • HELP! VIDEO IN CS6 EXTENDED WON'T IMPORT MOV FILES, ONLY JPEG

Hello.  I have a problem with the video editor in my CS6 Extented.  I have the newest updates (checked an hour ago), and restored default preferences before beginning the first video exercise in Chapter 10 of "Adobe Photoshop CS6/Classroom In A Book".  The book came with practice files on a DVD.  I installed those (for chapter 10) into my PC.  Following the book's directions to create a new video file, everything is fine, and works just as shown in the book, until I import the 9 sample files (6 Jpegs and 3 MOV files).  After placing these files onto the timeline, I am instructed to resize the duration of the JPEGs to 3 seconds, that works.  But when I go to resize the MOV files, they will not expand.  When I zoom in all the way, they are clearly empty place holders, of no lenght.  The marker says they are "01F", which looks to me like 1 frame.  Yet looking at the files before importing them in to Photoshop and placing them on the timeline, the first two files show as being 11 seconds long, and the third MOV file is 37 seconds long.  And, I can play all three files on my Windows media player.  But again, as soon as I place these on the time line, they are reduced to a sliver of just one frame, that can not be expanded.
I placed these files first using the method described in the book, which is to "Click the video menue in the Layer 0 track, and choose Add Media."  I then went to the lesson 10 folder on my internal hard drive, shift selected the 9 files as directed, then clicked open.   I turned off my PC and then rebooted, three times, always getting the same results.  I then went and looked at some on-line traing videos, where they showed selecting the video files, then clicking on the "+" at the right end of the time line, and that did the same thing, moving the JPEGs fine, and chopping the MOV files down to one frame.
As another clue, before creating the video file in the exercise, the book directed me to load the finished file that they supplied, into Photoshop, and to play that in Photoshop, to see what the final project would look like.  I did that, and the video played fine.  And the book instructed me to note how the files in the timeline matched up with the files in the layers panel, and all of that looked just like in the book.  But I can NOT get the video/MOV files to move in to the time line when I do it as instructed.
And I am running Windows 8.1, on a brand new pc with a fairly highpowered dedicated video card with 3 gig of on-board ram, and 16G of ram in my PC.
What do I do?   Thank you, Chuck

Thank you Silkrooster!   I did the download of Quicktime and re-did the video training exercise, but this time it worked flawlessly!  Thanks, Chuck
PS:  As I entered the forum, I noticed someone else with the exact same problem that I had.  But that person was able to ask their question in a couple of simple sentences instead of my long ramble!

  • Lightroom 4 won't export all my files and doesn't notify which ones it didn't

I have a large library and one day i wanted to make sure that none of the files were corupt so I thought of an idea to export my entire library to see if i get a notification if any of my files didn't export. I could then check on those files to see whats wrong. But trying to export that many images caused lightroom to crash so I exported by year instead. Some years were fine, but others like 2011 for example, out of 13906 images, only 9824 exported. I would be ok with that if lightroom notified me which images didn't export. Normaly, when i try to export images that are ofline, lightroom will tell me which ones didn't export and say that they can't be found. How am i supposed to find those 4000 images that didnt export if i don't know what there file names are? I tried exporting the previews as a catalog and all 13906 exported fine. I updated my dng previews and I even genereated new standard sized previews as well. I also ckecked for missing images under Library/Find Missing Photos, and there were none missing. Here are the type of files i was trying to export: DNG: 13017, jpeg: 9, PSD: 61, TIFF: 819. None were videos.
    Please Help!

Thanks for your reply. I don't necesarily think I have corrupt files, but i want o make sure i don't so that when i do a back up, the corupt file doesn't replace the good ones on my backup drive. I have over 100,000 images in my library and there is absolutely no way that i am going to scroll through all of those to look for an exclamation point. I wish lightroom could scan my whole library for any questionalable files.
I have tried to export known corrupt files where I could see an exclamation point or a large purples band, or both, and they don't export. Thats why i wanted to export my whole library to see if i can find any of those. But lightroom notifies me when they cant export. I don't know why it doenst say anyting now. Im glad you mentioned about the stacking, i didn't know about that, however, i don't used stacking, so that is not the issue. There might be 10 or 20 that i accidentally stacked, but not 4000.

  • LR 5.3 won't import .mov files from iphone 5s

I'm running Mavericks and LR 5.3 and have had trouble importing video files from my iphone 5s.  All of my software is up to date.  It seems that LR is having trouble connecting to the dynamic link server.  It doesn't work even when I disable my firewall.  I've already purged my video cache in LR.  Is there anything else I should try?

There are many, many posts of this nature in these forums.  See, for example:
    iphoto won’t import mov video
For many, rebuilding the XPC helper cache solves the problem off the bat. In terminal try this, and reboot:
    sudo /usr/libexec/xpchelper --rebuild-cache
The above posted by Andy Ball on a thread related to a similar problem with Aperture:
Re: Import video to Aperture library on Mountain Lion
    Other things to try:
    1. create a fresh iPhoto library and try that.  (hold down opt while launching iPhoto)
    2. create a new OS X user (in system preferences) and try there.
In my case – and many cases – neither of those things work either, which means the problem is system wide.  Again suggesting that the xpc helper solution might work. But for me it did not either.
There are other suggestions that there are conflicts with Perian (on Yosemite) and flip4mac.  In my case uninstalling both of those didn't solve it either.
So maybe one of those solutions will work for you, results apparently vary.  But this is a huge unresolved issue many others are having as well.  I have a case with a senior apple advisor open, still unresolved. His suggestion of course, at this point, is an archive and re-install. I'm not ready to go there yet.
BTW, another thing he had me try was to import the file with Image Capture (which works).  Then open it in QuickTime Player X.  Then try exporting to 480p.  Does QuickTime crash?  It does for me.
    My summary:
    1. Files successfully import with Image Player.
    2. Files play with QuickTime Player X.
    3. QuickTime Player X crashes when exporting to 480p.
    4. Files import with iMove.
    5. Files fail to import with iPhoto (unrecognized format as with OP)
    6. iPhoto import failure/errors are system wide and not specific to a library or a user.
    7. rebuilding xpchelper cache and rebooting in my case does not resolve issue.
    8. same videos import fine in iPhoto on a totally different system (laptop running same versions of OS X 10.10 and iPhoto 9.5.1)

  • My FCP3 won't recognize .mov file

Hello folks, I had finished a project about a month ago and in order to save my hard drive disk space, I erased all the source footages right after I got the final product made which was the DVD.
However, now I am trying to produce the different langauge version with the same footages which was exported as .mov file that was used for first project and I tried to import the same .mov files into my FCP3 to work on it but it says "unknown file" error msg.
I thought that .mov file is the primary recognizable file format for every FCP and why this is happening?
I paid for translation of the script and everything, if it won't work, I am screwed! please folks help me and I'd really appreciate it!
    THanks

    Well,
If you exported your movie as a NON-SELFCONTAINED quicktime file, you need to recapture your original footage. FCP can not play a file when the referenced video does not exist.
    cheers,

  • Adobe Premier Pro CS6 editing system and mov files

We have just installed a new Adobe Premier Pro CS6 editing system with a HP 820Z (running windows 7) 18 core multi drive system.  Our production company has used many mov. files from Ponds.  We were a FCP 7.0 studio (still have the system) but the mov files won't import to our new CS6 System...  Not trying to import from the mac...have them stored on another PC.  We depend on this stock footage for production. Do I need to download a converter?  I just had to produce two spots with a still background because I could not get any of our stock mov files to work...
    Thanks much for any help!

PP does support direct import of Quicktime files that can be played back on the system.
What is the correct error message after import?
Can you playback the files with the Quicktime Player?
For some codecs like DNXHD you have to install the quicktime codec first...
