I'm unable to open a new tab on my window, what do I do?

You can also try to update to Firefox 18.

Another possible cause to consider is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Firefox is adding advertising links to certain words on my website cornish-surfing.co.uk, and when I open a new tab an additional window opens with unwanted sites.
    1. How can I stop these things from happening?
    2. Why is it happening?
These things only happen when I’m using the Firefox browser. I use Sophos antivirus and firewall and the scans indicate my system is clean. So I’m assuming that it’s built into Firefox or there’s a security flaw with Firefox.
Can you let me know which and how I can stop it from happening?

hello, this sounds like a problem possibly caused by adware on your pc (certainly nothing that is shipping with a plain official firefox build).
please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

  • Links not opening as new tabs in Safari window

I have set my Safari preferences so that when I click a link, it should open a new tab in the current window yet it never works. A clicked URL brings up a new window and I'm constantly merging all the windows into one.
Any ideas why this preference might not be holding?
    Thanks!

Unless this occurs for every link you click, the problem is due to the fact that some links are coded in the HTML to open in new windows. In Safari, those links will open in a new window no matter what you do. Only links that are coded to open normally (i.e. in the same window) will open in a new tab when Command-clicked. In other words, Safari is just not set up to override how a link is coded, as Firefox and some other browsers are. Safari honors the "new window" HTML.
There is a way to get around this without using third-party software. It requires using Terminal to change Safari's default behavior. It's a very simple change, essentially just toggling a hidden setting to the "on" position, and shouldn't cause any problems as some "hacks" can do.
To do this, simply open Terminal (in the Applications/Utilities folder) and paste the following command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true
And hit the Return key. Quit and relaunch Safari.
If you want to reverse this change, enter the following command in Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool false
    And then the Return key.

  • In recently installed version 3.6.16 I am unable to open a new tab either by clicking on tab or from file menu.

    OS Windows 7 Home Edition.
    Firefox Version 3,6,16
New tab does not open when clicking on tab on right of tab bar or New Tab in file menu.
Have other users experienced this and what is the solution to this problem?

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

  • Google Images - unable to open in new tabs since update to 27.0

Ever since updating to 27.0 a few days ago, I am no longer able to middle-click on images in Google Images search results in order to open them in a new tab. When doing so, the new tab only contains a blank page with a gray background. This is quite an annoyance, because I have always opened many images at once in multiple tabs if I wanted to quickly compare something.
At first I thought this was a bad change made by Google, however, I discovered that I am able to open the image search results in new tabs in other browsers, so I concluded that the culprit must have been the update, because it only became an issue after it.
    Thank you for any information.

All those steps have already been attempted. The issue is not just specific to my computer, as I have noticed it happens on every computer I have used 27.0 on. I was even able to reproduce it by updating an older version of Firefox, so it is clear that the 27.0 update is the culprit.
    Thank you.

  • Everytime I open a new tab, the firefox window gets smaller and smaller.

Every since I updated my Firefox, I have had issues. I love firefox so I would like to have this fixed please :) Well, everytime I open a new window or tab, the Firefox window gets smaller. Kind of like I hit the button by the close screen button. I have to actually hit that button to minimize the screen and hit it again to maximize it. It is sort of annoying. Is there something I can do?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
