When I go to launch System Update under Lenovo Care, I get the error message "System Update could not be started properly" and then the system shuts down. I've been all over the site trying to find a place to download a new copy of system update. Could someone please help?

How to stop receiving spam messages blindly addressed to user "admin"?

I've done a bit of searching but can't seem to find any relevant posts, so I'm hoping someone can be of help.
I'm using MacOS X Server 10.2.4. My user account on the server is "alan", and I set it up in Workgroup Manager so that all email addressed to me at "[email protected]" is automatically forwarded to my pacbell.net address. All that is working fine.
However, when I check my email at my pacbell.net address, in addition to the forwarded mail addressed to "[email protected]", I am also getting a lot of spam addressed to "[email protected]". Evidently, many spammers will just blindly spam "[email protected]" assuming that it will be a valid account. So what appears to be happening is since my user "alan" on the server is also an administrator account, there is some sort of default alias connecting the user "admin" to "alan", which in turn is causing me to receive the spam messages. They must be blind, because I've never used or referenced the address "[email protected]" anywhere.
So, the big question is --- how can I delink the alias "admin" from "alan"? It does not appear as a shortname in the Workgroup Manager under the user "alan", so I can't delete the alias there. I'm guessing there's probably a file somewhere I need to edit to do this, but can't seem to find it? I would be fine with redirecting mail addressed to "admin" to a null account that doesn't have email active, so those messages will just bounce back to the spammers.
Alternatively, is it possible to simply reject all mail sent to "[email protected]"?

That would make sense, since user "alan" is definitely a member of the group "admin".
I see that sendmail is installed on the system, though I'm not sure that sendmail is in fact what is running the mail sever (although it could be).
I discovered this much at least -- the command to start the mail server is:
/usr/sbin/MailService-autostart on
So it would seem that "MailService" might be the name of the server app, or something to that effect. If so, how can I modify its configuration files to avert this behavior? Or is there some way to blanket reject all mail send to "admin"? (sorry if I've been repetitive) ...

Spell Check - Am I blind?

I must be blind...
There has got to be some sort of spell checker in a forms design package!?!?!
Is there a spell checker in Designer 7.0? If not, is there some sort of plug in?
I deal with legal docs and it's quite a hassle to have to manually proof or use some sort of external spell checker.

I feel your pain. I work with brokerage and annuity forms and there isn't a spell check. (sorry)
We copy all of the XML from Designer to Word and spell check in Word. Unfortunately - it catches all the xml coding as well.
Once finished, we copy and paste everything back into the XML. (usually without a problem).
Heck - even this discussion board allows you to spell check.
It IS a hassle. Hopefully Adobe comes up with something quick.
Some tech genious would make a killing with a plug in tool. (anyone? anyone?)

How does one change the folder to which scanned images are saved?

Using a CanoScan 9000F Mark II scanner
Using the ScanGear driver software that came with it
Right now every time I scan something, it is automatically saved in "My Documents", and I have to drag and drop the file where I really want it to go. How do I change it so that the file is saved where I want it to go in the first place. Also, it is automatically assigning a file name so that I have to go to the file and change that to what I would like it to be too. How do I make it so that I can name the file before it gets saved. Neither do I see where it gives me the option to choose the format in which the file is saved; it is saving the files automatically as JPG, but I would like to save them as TIFF or BMP.
These seem to be very standard options; so I don't know why I'm finding it so hard. I must be blind or something.

Is there a way to get the highest audio peak to display (and hold) in PPro CS4?

I have to deliver my projects to a client with the audio mixdown at a specific level, namely, no greater than -6db. It would be great if, while playng back the sequence, the Master level would show, and hold to peak audio level reached. As we know, the peaks do indeed display, but disappear almost as fast as they appear, so it doesn't do me any good. There are two problems for this: 1. I must be blind, or something. 2. My mind doesn't work fast enough to notice where the little yellow bar appears, and then remember it at the end of the clip. HELP. Thanks, Steve.

I do not know of any Hold feature on the meters. To my knowledge, only the red (overload) will "hold." Maybe I am about to learn something.
One could Normalize to -6db, but then I am NOT a fan of Normalizing in either PrPro, or Audition.
In Audition, the Waveform Display is more accurate than the representation I see in PrPro. There, it's pretty easy to graph the peaks and see where they fall (or "rise"). Do not know how SoundBooth displays, and if it's any more accurate, than PrPro. Now, PrPro is not bad, I just find it a bit more of an emulation, than what one has in Audition - maybe it's just my eyes... ?

Creating a pseudo column in class-table mapping

I would like to create a class (Reference) with attributes
long owner ;
long child ;
String childName ; // read only
This will be loaded into the owner object in a Vector.
This will be mapped to a database table (db_references) with columns
owner number; -- FK to owner
child number; --FK to child
We are setting a shallow load scheme where we are only pulling the keys of the child objects into the owner.
However, on load, I would like to be able to pull in the name of the child object as well as the key.
If I add the child table to the descriptor, inserts of the Reference class try to insert into child table which already has the row, throwing the predictable error.
This is another situation where my Oracle Forms experience must be blinding me to the correct solution. Any suggestions?

I gave up on the generic mapping class and mapping table endeavor.
In my current test, I created a read only SummaryClass that maps to a subset of the attributes on the FullClass.
The Vector in the OwnerClass is mapped to the SummaryClass in TopLink. I even created a view on the tables involved with the FullClass with just the attributes required by the SummaryClass. When I read the owner, I get the FullClass in the Vector. I even changed the PK in the view for the SummaryClass to not match that in the FullClass.
The FullClass objects are in the TopLink cache. There is no attempt to read the database on the read.
When I issue a
server.initializeIdentityMaps()
in the read statement.
Then the correct classes are returned on the read.
A less radical:
UnitOfWork uowSession = getUnitOfWorkSession();
uowSession.removeFromIdentityMap(thePlan);
in the read also works.
I am rather concerned that the returned class from a TopLink read changes based on the state of the read cache.
Any suggestions on how best to address this odd behavior?

Insert "Last Name" in pages?

I have created a letter and would like to personalize it in the printing process by inserting "last name" on each letter - from a numbers or CSV file that contains "last name" column.
I'm stumped. It seems it only allows me to insert fields from my address book.
So I opened up my address book and attempted to drop my file with addresses into a new directory but it wouldn't allow that kind of action.
Can someone help me? Surely this is possible?

I've read that chapter, several times - and I must be blind. It always requires that I use my address book (which does not contain the names/addresses I'm currently trying to use). I don't see anywhere I can select a numbers file/column instead.
Can you point me to the area in the pages manual chapter 11 you are referring to?
As I mentioned, none of the names/addresses I am trying to use are in my address - nor do I want to add them (unless I must - and would then put them into their own directory - I tried this and failed).

Where is the "Devices" list in iTunes???

I must be blind - but I can't find the Devices list, let alone: "Select the Apple TV icon with “Click to set up” next to it in the Devices list."
I have iTunes 7.1.1 (5) - have downloaded and REinstalled it twice, restared computer multiple times, etc.
TV find my network, plays movie trailers, etc. but I can't set up iTunes to sync (and, yes, in preferences "Look for Apple TV's" is checked).

I had the same problems with mine--ATV was able to play trailers without a problem, and the Airport Extreme I was using was definitely recognizing the ATV (the MAC address showed up in the connected users list).
I was able to get the ATV to show up in the devices list (which indeed only appears if there's an ATV or iPod connected) when I disabled my firewall. There are some Apple support articles that show specifics and step-by-step processes for doing these, which I can post later if you can't find them.
Here's the kicker--Apple's built-in firewall protection can be completely shut off, but some Windows and third-party Apple firewalls can't be. I don't know about Windows, but if you use NetBarrier for Mac (even the most current release), you will have to completely uninstall the program using the NetBarrier installer. Even set with "no restrictions", the ATV uses so many atypical ports and connections that NetBarrier gets in the way. I am sure this would be true for other firewalls as well.
Once you can get the ATV to show up again, then go through the tech articles to see how to configure your firewall for the ports needed to allow ATV to keep functioning with the firewall on.

Shuffled Playlist Question

Instead of having to navigate back and fourth between the Settings menu and the Music menus, is it possible to create a Playlist (or SPL) that contains the majority of my collection but shuffles the music? I've tried a variety of set ups that look like they will work when viewed through iTunes, but when played through the iPod they play everything in order (ie not shuffled).

Well I hear what you are saying, but as you pointed out, these things seem to be beyond the current capability of the iPod. On that same note, this 5th Gen video iPod I have is my very first iPod and while I do love it, I am actually rather shocked at the limited features it has or what I feel are obvious things it should be able to do but doesn't.
Ya, as each new generation of iPod has come along Apple made big steps forward in the big things it could do, like black and white to a color screen then to showing photos then doing video. But the little features (that are just programming) that should have been added to the user interface, seem to have been forgotten.
Here is an example of one that to me would have been an obvious user interface features: Being able to delete a song from the iPod and then (maybe optionally) have that same song removed from the iTunes library when you sync. How many times have you been out and about with your iPod, a song comes one, maybe one of the last tracks of a new album you recently imported and you think to yourself, "well this song is a dud"? I want to delete it from my iPod and my library. So I either have to remember what song it is or make a note somewhere (by the way, I often end up with a post it note on the back of my iPod at work just for that purpose). It would be easier to have a built in delete function on the iPod or at the very least, a "delete me" flag you can turn on so when you get back to your computer, iTunes can show you the ones you tagged to be removed.
Another feature I would like to see for the color iPods is the ability to change screen and font color. Since there is no way to actually dim the LCD screen (another missing feature) at night, in a dark car, etc. that screen can be really overly bright. So how about being able to change the screen color from white to a less bright color like dark blue. Or how about a night mode where the screen is black and the font is white? Or how about a night vision mode with a red screen so you don't ruin your night vision? Obviously if the iPod can show video, having screen and font colors changeable should be super easy.
Then there are the weird things. For example, I play a few songs on the iPod. I then go and look in the Recently Played list. The songs are there but it seems to be a sort of random order. The songs I just played are not at the top like in iTunes, but are towards the bottom, and not in the order I played them. I haven't bothered to figure out the order they are in but it is probably something that makes little sense like sort by date, then by artist name, but the list only shows song titles, so it looks jumbled. Weird.
So that is my long winded way to say, your idea of a changing play list with a dynamic shuffle sounds great, but considering I can not even remove a song from the iPod without a computer, must be blinded by the light if I touch the controls of my iPod while in a dark car, and my choices of screen and font colors are about the same as Henry Ford offered on his cars, don't hold your breath!

I want a rectangular frame round part of image to draw attention to it?

I am making a clip to demonstrate my camera zoom by starting off at W/A and zooming in.
I want to highlight the area I am going to be zooming to by drawing a frame around it.
The only rectangles and circles I can find in the Generators appear to be solid shapes or solid shapes with a border.
There doesn't appear to be any way of getting rid of the central colour so the underlying video will show through.
Any ideas.
I could do it in FCP 7 but if possible I would like to use FCP X.

Space around children in FormItem

Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction?
Inside a Form, I have FormItems with children, for example,
RadioButtons (see below).
For the life of me, I cannot figure out what property
controls the "extra space" that FormItem seems to put to the left
of its children. I have looked all over the web and throughout all
the Flex Builder documentation, but I must be blind.
Does anyone know whether FormItem has some kind of inside margin
that can be overwritten?
If I use the RadioButton control without a FormItem, I can
avoid that extra space to its left, but there must be a way to use
some kind of style attribute that would allow me to control that,
right?

The gaps around the sides are margins. The sizes of the margins are set in the Sheet Inspector. There are minimum margins, based upon what your printer driver has communicated to Numbers, where your printer is unable to print.
Your table will split and flow onto multiple pages whenever it encroaches upon the margins. You can prevent this by not making the rows and columns quite so large, and by eliminating any unneeded ones.
