If the photos were synced from your computer then with your iPad connected to and selected on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, then on the right-hand side on the Photos tab select an empty folder and sync just that to the iPad and the currently synced photos should be removed from the iPad - that won't affect your iPhone unless you also do the same de-selection when it's connected.
If the photos were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc then you can copy them off the iPad first (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083) and you can then delete them directly on the iPad in the Photos app via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it

As you are clearly aware, it is important for you to have backups of your important data, including all of these photos you are currently keeping on your iPhone. While it is possible to use iTunes or iCloud to do backups of your iPhone, the problem becomes how to access those backups if you have deleted the photos from your iPhone. Once you have done the backup and then removed the photos from the iPhone, the only way to access the photos is by restoring the backups to the phone. If you want to easily access the photos once they are off of the iPhone, another approach to this would be to import your photos from the iPhone into an application on your Mac, such as iPhoto. To learn how to do this, use the steps in this article -

Once those photos are on your computer, it is still important to back up those photos to somewhere else, so you can be sure of their safety before removing them from the iPhone. Your Mac’s Time Machine application is one method of doing this -

It depends upon what country that you are in (it's not possible to re-download films in all countries), the film studio (some don't allow re-downloading), and whether they remain in the store (studios occasionally remove them from the store) - what you can currently re-download will show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your iPad.
But you are better off first copying them to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases so that you can take you own backup copy of them before deleting them, rather than relying on being able to redownload them in the future (and the same applies to other downloaded content)

If you have a serial number, you simply need to enter it into the proper fields.
Since you don't say what version of Lightroom, and what sections are "blocked off", let me guess that you have Lightroom CC, and you need to enter the serial number to turn it into Lightroom 6. I don't think so, I think it stores them on the cloud. I just did a test on my own iPad and although I deleted the source image in the Photos app the image remains in the Photo Stream

If you delete songs (and other items) from the main iTunes library, yes, you need to empty the Trash because iTunes puts the song files into the Trash. When deleting items from an iPod, the items are not being deleted from the main iTunes library, so nothing should end up in the Trash.
Hopefully, you are not deleting items from your main iTunes library, just to sync those deletions from the iPod. If you are, there is a better way. You can post back if you want more info...

I want to remove a few photos from my iPad, but not from my Mac (from-to which I sync). Is this possible? I can get the "delete" button to show on the iPad, but it is not fully lit--i.e. pressing it does no good.

You can delete photos that you took on the pad, and photos that you imported from the camera connection kit right on the pad. That delete button will work on those.
Photos that you synced from the mac get deleted by resyncing. When you connect the pad, push the photos tab, uncheck sync all, and then select only the photos you want on the pad. The mac acts like the master storage unit, and all the photos will stay there (unless you delete them in i photo) and copies are placed onto the pad.
Photos you take on the pad, by the way, dont get moved to the mac during a sync, you need to import them to iphoto. While the pad is connected, open up i photo, and the pad will show up as a device on the left side. You can select which pad photos you want to import. Those photos are now part of the master copy on the mac, and can be synced back to the pad, or not, as you decide.

Can anyone tell me how to get ALL my pictures from my iPad to my MAC. My Mac crashed and had to be restored, my IPad was synced up with it and now every time I try to synch it to my computer it wants to erase all my photos from my iPad. Thank you. I am trying again to backup my catalog to my second hard drive. When I tried it before it would stop at 64% at which point I figured it was stuck and cancelled it. The third time I tried it I let it go for a day, and then it gave me an error message. Unfortunately, I was so frustrated I didn't write down or look up the error message, I just decided to copy in Windows instead - just so I would have a backup for my stuff. Currently it again seems to be stuck on 64% again. I will let it go and see if I eventually get an error message and then try to look that up and resolve it. If successful I will then reconnect with the method you shared with me - thank you!

I have also tried attaching the iPad to the PC and looking for the photos using windows file management. However the only photos that I can find are those taken by the iPad itself. I am confused about why something that should be simple is not.

If photos were synced from your computer then they can't be deleted directly on the iPad, you will need to remove/de-select them from where you synced it from on your computer and re-sync.

I have a LaCie external hard disk. I do not know how to retrieve photos from iphoto that have disappeared. I do not know how to use Time Machine

I have a LaCie external hard drive. I also have Time Machine. I somehow have "lost" almost all my 5,000+ photos from iPhoto 8.1.2. I would appreciate someone giving me directions on how to retrieve the photos from the external hard drive or Time Machine.
The last thing that I did that is different from my normal routine was to trash duplicate music tunes from iTunes. I cannot figure out how that would have caused my photos to disappear.

I remember being cautioned to never do anything with the iPhoto Library. Should I have clicked on the iPhoto Library and then Restore?
I do not know "how" items are being placed in the LaCie external drive, just that it shows a backup running about every hour. I have taken a snapshot of the Time Machine Preferences I would you to see. Maybe that would answer this question.
In March 2011 I had to have hard drive on my iMac replaced. I had been using a Seagate external drive for backups. However I was not using Time Machine. When the Apple guru was helping me restore all my files etc on the new hard drive he was not familiar with Seagate and recommended I purchase this LaCie and use Time Machine. I never had any problem retrieving items from the Seagate backup. It was very straightforward. As I mentioned previously, I just don't have a clue with the LaCie and Time Machine.
I hope this is not TMI.
