I have created pdf's for a print project. I need to know how to convert the pdf's into web ads. I have InDesign CC and Adobe Photoshop CS2.

You'll probably be using still images or GIF animation for final ad; another option is Flash (SWF). Digital ad agencies sometimes require multiple file versions for expandable ads - still image, collapsed state, expanded state. Per post above, Photoshop will be sufficient to create basic stills, if you're doing animated ads you might need to get someone to help you.

InCopy is a solution, but it's not the only viable solution.
I update many books, from 200 pages to 3,200 pages every year, long document, very techincal tax books.
Some are done through InCopy, some are edited word files and rtfs exported from InDesign, some are marked up hard copies etc.
It totally depends on the clients technical ability with computers. Last year I taught over 30 authors of ours how to use InCopy. Some were receptive, some were dubious, some were totally clueless.
And on the dubious and totally clueless I spent more time troubleshooting their problems than I would normally with a Word/RTF option.
Some people are capable of switching to InCopy or even know how to use it in the first place. For anyone never used InDesign or InCopy before then it's a massive learning curve to jump from MS Word et al word processors, to InCopy.
I do agree, it is the best solution that's out there, technically. But that solution is not usable by a lot of people.
Yeh if the client is comfortable with InCopy then it's the way forward.
But in most cases, in my experience, it's faster and more efficient to Export the text as RTF and let the author update the RTF. That leaves you in control of reinserting the text and formatting it correctly. Rather than letting the client add bold, underline, italics, superscript, subscripts, crazy workarounds because they didn't know how to do it properly. And in the end you end up with 2 or 3 times the amount of work than is necessary, just cleaning up what the client has done in InCopy that does not suit the overall formatting of the publications.

I want to be able to convert PDFs into another format and I know this can be achieved with a small upgrade. However I am also looking for the ability to compress the size of PDFs, if this is at all possible.

Need help in exporting multipage pdf into images

I come from Flash/Flex background and new to InDesign Server.
My requirement is to convert a pdf file consisting of "n" pages into "n" jpeg images. Is it achievable using Indesign Server? What is the api I should use for achieving this?
I am able to convert only the first page of pdf into jpeg, and the snippet looks something like below:

Incorporate pdf into a web app

I have an asp web app
everything works great
details page - gets good here:
they want to clik on a button in the app to create a .pdf
from the web site/apps detail page?
is this possible,, is there a tool/app or command to do this
with?
i would like to have a tool that would pull the record's data
from the db and create the pdf??? wishing?

Reader 10.1.3 for Mac doesn't print pdf's from web

Yesterday we updated to Adobe Reader 10.1.3. Now we can't print any pdf's from the web. In some cases we can save the files and open in Reader - those files print. However some web pdf's, like Stamps.com postage, don't allow the files to be saved. Any suggestions? We've tried Safari & Firefox, re-installing Reader, running Disk Utility and re-starting the Mac.
When we try to print pdf's from the web, the print preview page in the print dialogue box is empty/white ... so the content to be print isn't even getting that far.
We are running Snow Leopard OS - 10.6.8.

Help! Turning a PDF into an Online Document

Hello Community,
I spend a lot of my time taking PDF versions of large chart books, hyperlinking and bookmarking to the nth degree, and writing commentary on these charts. The PDF's can be anywhere from 15 to 500 pages long (sometimes longer) and they range in file size from a couple mbs to sometimes 40-50mbs.
For larger PDF's that I can't email, I will start using a service like AdobeSend which will be very helpful.
What I really want to do however is somehow get my PDF's online in a webpage kind of a format. Is something that a layman can do or do I need a degree in website design or programming or something.
The ideal world would be where the cover of the PDF would be like the home page of a website. Each link or bookmark in the document would function like hypertext in a website. That way, I wouldn't need to send the file at all, it would just be hosted somewhere and whoever had the webaddress could access the online PDF.
I've looked at website creation sites like Wix, but I didn't see initially how I can host a large PDF document using their site builder. If anyone knows of a good way to turn a linked PDF into a Website like document I would be forever grateful.

Is the PDF embedded?
Is the color used on a vector object?
If so you can copy the Pantone color from one object to another with the color picker.
You can't read the color in the color picker window. You can't pick up any exact color (let alone a spot color) from linked files.

Need to add pages to .pdf

I was given a .pdf that was created in LiveCycle Designer and when I attempted to add additional pages to the .pdf I am unable to. I tried both the drag and drop and the insert page option. The insert page option is actually greyed out. There are no security settings enabled and the .pdf is not a read-only. Is there anything I can do to change the file so that I can add additional pages?

It sounds like your PDF is a static PDF. You can usually tell if you go to the Save As function and under the Save as type it has (Static). Static PDFs are just that and lack the ability for significant edits. Also you can usually tell if it is a static PDF if other options in the Insert tab are greyed out as well, like "wrap in subform". If it is a static PDF you will need to bascially recreate the document as a flowable PDF by either rebuilding the entire document or you can Print to PDF, and then import that printed PDF into LC and add the pages and text fields. Probably not the answer you want, but I cannot think of another way to change a static PDF.

Prints pdf too small

I am having the same problem as http://forums.adobe.com/message/3399663 and need to have the print-pdf work, rather than save as pdf. Save as produces a 48mb file, print as (when it works) produces a 4 MB file I can email.
I create a 11x17 poster 300 dpi in Photoshop. Go to print as pdf and it generates an 11x17 document with a thumbnail in the upper left that is the image. On 399663 they recommend a work around (Save as PDF, do not print as PDF) but this generates a 48 MB file. When the print does work (and it is erratic) it produces a perfect 4MB file that I can email that can then be printed by the recipient on a large-paper colour laser printer.
If anyone has any answers as to settings that can fix this, I would appreciate it.

Just got off the phone with Adobe and found a cure.
Open print dialog box.
Go to Set up
the paper size: scroll to top and select defined by driver.
It worked for both the HP 8150 and Xerox Phaser 7700

Turn my Sub-Account into Primary Account

Guys,
Looking for some help as i can't get anywhere with online chat and even after speaking to someone over the phone who advised it would be resolved in 24hrs, i got an annoying text that i could not reply to stating it couldn't be done.
Basically a btinternet e-mail address that i have used for years is classed as as Sub-Account. I have been trying to set up BT WIFI but when i use this e-mail address it says that it is not a primary account - i do know the primary e-mail address but since i never use that i would prefer to have just the one.
So i need to turn my Sub-Account into my Primary Account.
I was advised this could be done, gave them all the details, told it would be sorted in 24hrs time. 72hrs later i received a text message "We have tried to contact you but were unsuccessful, unfortunately the e-mail address you have requested is already in use"
Two things here, i've no missed calls or voicemails so i find it hard to believe they tried to call me, secondly i know that the e-mail address is already in use...because it is me that uses it! I just need it set to my primary...
How difficult can this be? Customer Service is really poor, several issues over the past 6months that i end up spending hours explaining a 2minute problem, i guess this is what happens when you offshore service desks and expect people to use basic transcripts to resolve a clear language barrier.

How do I turn a large poster into a small PDF?

I made an academic poster in Pages (about 4' x 3') but now i need to save it as a PDF to send out. Both printing as a PDF and exporting as a PDF look horrible, so I am following previous advice and saving it as a PostScript and then opening in Preview. But most of my document gets cropped and I just get a small corner of the original, even though I changed custom sizes in both Pages and Preview to the 4' x 3'.
I am thinking now it is because I cant find a setting for 'any printer' in the printer drop down, so it is set to a printer that only does A4, and that is contraining the size.
Can any one tell me
1) A better way to turn the pages doc into a nice PDF
2) A way to reduce the Pages doc to A4 without cropping?
3) A way to select 'any printer' in the printer dialogue?
Any advice welcome, I really need to send this thing out!

A pdf doesn't have to be any particular size. It can be printed to fit at destination.
Have you tried simply scaling the output % to what you want?
Menu > File > Print > Layout > Paper Handling > Scale to fit paper size > Destination Paper: A4 > PDF > Save as PDF…

Hello, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have this client who is a great client but for various reasons their print vendors for packaging are incredibly special. I've begged them to change vendors, but it's not going to happen. Their paper printing vendors are fine (great actually), and the packaging vendors I use with other clients are fine, I think it's just because they are using the absolute cheapest vendors.
The situation is that I use InDesign to create packaging (boxes, plastic tubes, labels, the whole bit). It's much more efficient for me because for their specific stuff, I use master pages, character/paragraph styles, update linked graphics, etc. This sort of thing is possible in Illustrator via other tools, but I strongly feel InDesign is a much better solution. When I'm done, I export a CMYK PDF (sometimes spot, but either either way, it's a clean, tidy PDF). I'm pretty comfortable with my settings for this as I don't have trouble with any other vendor.
The problem is that my client is getting emails like this: Is it possible for you to send me the true vector files in either .ai or .eps format?
I could take the PDF into Illustrator and outline the fonts, and give them one huge, extremely messy package of AI files (and I'm sure they're on Illustrator 8 or something), but the client will need changes after the proof, and there are a lot of files here, so I have to do this, and redo it, etc. Not to mention this client is WAY over budget.
So, what I'm begging for help with: I've been trying to google for something that explains why a PDF is a better file than an AI file for this purpose and why they should be able to use PDF, but I'm coming up with very little. So far I have general Adobe and Wikipedia articles (which covers raster vs vector), but I haven't found any info from a third party that explains why printers should be using (or at least able to use) a PDF to generate plates (poly or otherwise).

I actually hadn't thought of that (actually, hardly ever think about .eps anymore). It's a good point though.
In CS4 (don't remember previous versions), I can export these just as easily as a PDF, but then I still have to outline the fonts, zip up several files instead of just sending a PDF, etc. It's 10 minutes, if that; but this is happening consistently with their packaging vendors. I'd rather educate their vendors than do work-arounds for them. I'm not trying to be a jerk about it, but if they don't know a PDF can be just as "true" a vector as an AI/EPS, the problem isn't just outdated equipment, it's a lack of seriously basic pre-press knowledge.
I was sure adobe (or someone) had a nice article on why a PDF was a better solution, but I'm having a hard time finding it. More than a work-around, I'm really looking for general information for them as to what a PDF is (versus AI/EPS). Then I can at least tell my client that their printer requires me to do extra work, and I'll just bill out for my time. It's a nominal fee, because these work-arounds aren't that elaborate, but sooner or later my client will do the math and realize that it's in their best interest to find a better printer. I know a lot of great printers right now that are hurting (although sadly, none of them do packaging), I'd much rather see work go to printers who make an effort to stay educated about their industry.
