I recently had my computer cleaned, when it came back itunes was no longer installed. I downloaded the new one and my phone "sync"ed with it and I lost everything. I know I had backed it up before my computer was cleaned on an older version of itunes.

Is there any way to recover from the old back up?

iTunes media is stored only in iTunes on your local computer.  If you're in the US, now you can redownload purchased items only. Non-purchased items and items you purchased outside of iTunes is not recoverable.  If you're elsewhere, you're out of luck.
