I synced my ipod to my pc and it restored to factory settings, and deleted over half my music! Anyone know what I can do?

So I had purchased some new music via my ipod, then wanted to sync it to the rest of my music library on my PC, but when I connected it, it automatically reset my ipod to factory settings, and deleted over half of my music, including videos and photos! Has anyone else had this issue? Can anything be done to get the missing things back?

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If the videos  and were in your Camera Roll album and you backed up restore from that backup
