I thought Apple fixed FCP X performance and stability...!

Though I was experiencing this with 10.0, it seems to still be the case with 10.0.1!
Whenever I'm rendering, exporting or optimzing media in FCP X, I'm unable to open or work in any other application. Even attempting to open something as simple as Safari has proven to be a task... The dreaded beach ball spins and I find myself force quitting the apps.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I'm working on:
Early 2011 17" MacBookPro
Intel Quad Core i7 2.3 GHz Processor
8 GB RAM

Interesting, I'm now transcoding using compressor.

I can comfortably open and work with most apps, however as soon as I open FCP X, THE BEACH BALL APPEARS......!

Performance and Stability Problem with PE9

I just upgraded my computer to a Core i5 with 8G of memory and everything is running much faster. But my NEW PE9 just run very slow. Some of the simple tasks take 10-30 second to complete. Even Windows 7 will often come out to ask if I want to wait for PE9 to wake up or kill the process. When I want to change the size of a video clip, it just doesn't work at all due to performance. It will take PE9 20-30 seconds to resize the video clip. Without some realtime feedback of the size, it is impossible to do the resizing and this is a very fundamental operation. PE9 often crash or seize up as well, I didn't have any of these problem with PE3.0. I upgraded to PE9 simply because my PE3.0 for WIndows XP is not comletely compatible with Windows 7 (some of the text displace does not show up).
Do anyone else have issue with performance and stability?

Performance and stability in 10.4.7

I've had numerous performance and stability issues since the 10.4.7 update. Most noticeable are:
1) It often take a long time to focus on windows. When I click on, say, a Terminal window, the window raises immediately but is not active for about 1-2 seconds. (The close/minimize/maximize lights on the titlebar remain gray and the window is inactive.) During this time, the Terminal process is takes 50-90% of the CPU, and then the SystemUIServer process hogs the CPU for the following 1-2 seconds. This behavior is not exclusive to the Terminal process; it happens to other windows too.
2) When the system has been on screensave for a long time (say, >1 day), it becomes unresponsive to keyboard and mouse input and won't wake up. I usually have to power down the computer and reboot.
Has anyone else noticed this with the current OS? Could it be my fault somehow? If not, is it likely to be fixed in 10.4.8?

This is unusual. My 10.4.7 is pretty instantaneous. It could be a sign that you are using something in the background that eats up the signal for graphics redraw. What third party software do you have installed? What peripherals do you have installed? Have you installed any Dashboard Widgets.

Screen Saver or Energy Saver? Big difference here. Energy Saver could create such a situation especially with third party USB devices that are unfamiliar with Mac OS X's Energy Saver methods and send back signals expecting to receive back power and not getting it just as the machine wakes from sleep. If it is a Screen Saver, which Screen Saver? Have you tried to see if this happens without any pictures in your Pictures folder?
Is your data backed up? Diagnosing issues which result from force shutting down may require hard drive repair utilities. And the same issues that come from that can have caused the freezing and slowdown you are experiencing, as well as show up on a hard drive that is dying. Like perhaps several of you (before or after the last os x update) I experience losing connection to internet while my other pc laptop is surfing like a charm.
It is most irritating !! I have a D-link DIR-635 but I don't think that it is the problem. The problem is the **** bugs there are in os x !

For me, it's keeping me from updating OS on my iPhone 4 and I know that eventually I will have to do so (as Apps and other features are updated based on new OS). I just hate to lose my helpful transit directions (and yes, I know I could find apps for specific transit companies, but what I have now with the Google Maps is just so perfect, one of the most helpful things on my phone)

Performance and Stability

I was playing with the iMacs, mac mini and Mac Book Pros at the Apple store yesterday as I'm thinking about switching from Windows. I did a test where I opened several apps at once (Pages, Address Book, iCal, Garageband, iTunes) but found that every model would choke for minutes with the icon bouncing. Some would take so long that I gave up waiting for them to open and had to force quit.
Do you normally have to only open one app at a time? Does OS X have any sort of app start-up caching?

Opening several apps at once isn't a problem in Leopard 10.5.8. The more ram you have, the less problems you'll have opening a bunch of apps at once. Normally, the operating system isn't what determines whether you can open/run a bunch of apps simultaneously, it's memory (ram).
Most of Apple's new machines ship with 1 or 2 GB ram. That's enough to run a few simple apps or one or two larger apps, but if you need to launch & run several complex applications at once, more ram in any system, mac or pc, will help.
I have 11GB ram on my machine and can run every app on my system that I need simultaneously, including Word and the rest of the Office suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge, Flash, Dreamweaver, 3 browsers, EyeTV and several others with no problem. Several of those apps are set to launch at startup (which I don't recommend unless you know they won't cause conflicts) and most require lots of ram.
I have never had an issue with that until recently when I installed Snow Leopard 10.6. I had so many problems system-wide with crashes and other issues, that I had to remove the new OS and replace it with a backed up version of my previous OS (10.5.8).
If you're thinking about purchasing a Mac this time around, I'm sure you'll be happy with any machine you buy. Just make sure it doesn't have Snow Leopard and you'll be fine. Purchase and install extra ram and wait for Apple to fix the new operating system before upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.

Very Low Performance And Stability gaps

Hello, first of all, sorry me because of my low level english.
I have recent bought new pieces for my sistem, my older CPU was a Duron 1300 (overclocked 1400) in a Gigabyte Ga-7zxr mobo with 512 SDRAM 133 mem.
I choosed a MSI mobo, the KT6 delta (sr), a 2600 XP+ and 512 DDR 333, with no knowed fabricant.
I get a lower performance in my new system than the older, isn't normal.

My monitor refresh (like if I change the resolution) so often, I don't know why.
In the dxdiag, in the 3D test, i get a cube no well showing, i only see a bad image, like if the cube is turning hyper velocity.

The model 8 Of AMD AThlon XP is a 333 FPU. I've read it in AMD and other pages.
i've reduced the case temp by putting another coller in this, but it makes really noise. The new Case temp is 48º C. I'm thinking about to buy another case, with some coolers.

Performance and Stability Issues

I added a new user account to my Mac and it seems to have caused a bunch of problems. I can't eject a Tech Tool Pro disc--it doesn't appear in the Finder. When I try to reboot or log out, it times out and I have to use the power button. Installation programs have greyed out buttons. System Preferences and Disc Utility won't start. Some programs are operating slowly. Time Machine gets stuck in "preparing" mode. Tech Tool Pro hangs and won't force quit.
I recently used Disc Utility to format my external drive used for Time Machine backups, but didn't do anything to the boot disc. I also adjusted sharing permissions on my Documents folder and tweaked the user privileges.
Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing all of these symptoms, or a method for troubleshooting?

Try restarting while holding down a wired mouse button to eject the disk.
Sounds like you have pretty good Disk corruption going on. What version of TechToolPro are you using?
Did you try to repair the directory with it?
If the disk ejects, Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
If you own DiskWarrior run that. It's much better at directory repairs then TTP and DU.

Heavy FTP usage causing performance and stability issues

We have been having out-of-the-ordinary issues with DMS for the last couple weeks. Examples:
- There have been cases where certain people could not log in, while others could.
- Increased numbers of help requests for "DMS not responding".
- Search is getting slower because the statistics-and-analyze job has trouble running.
We found the Node process was maxed out on memory. It turns out that FTP is served by the Node process. We believe that FTP usage has pushed the Node process to the breaking point.
I would like to see if there is a way to increase server resources for FTP, like we can for Content processes like apps and dav. If that is not possible, we will have to limit FTP users to a number that can be supported by the limitations of the product. Since FTP has been very successful for us in handling many service requests, this would not be a good outcome.
We tried setting the Node process' numprocs to 2, but the system wouldn't start. Another idea we have that might buy us a little is moving FTP to our 2nd apps server, whose Node process is only running one agent. Can we run FTP on multiple Nodes?
I will put in a TAR for this, and post the number when I'm done.

In mountain lion, my avchd folders are QuickTime files. Why and when will Apple fix this?

I recently noticed that in mountain lion, when I insert the such card from my camera, the avchd folders that used to exist in previous operating systems are now QuickTime files. If I wish to see what I could see in previous operating systems by simply selecting the folder, I now have to bring up the context menu and choose to show package contents. This should not be this way and it really gets old fast when you need to go down several levels.
Is Apple aware of this? Did Apple do this ridiculous thing on purpose? Will Apple fix this?

Apple TV does not work. I have tried all the suggested fixes including reinstalling itunes and nothing has worked.

My apple tv quit working and I have done everythng listed on Apple's site as well as other help sites and nothing has fixed the problem. I have restarted and reset the apple tv, I have reinstalled itunes and I turned off and reset my router. All to no avail. Any suggetions?

Port is open and router recognizes the Apple TV. I noticed on the web that certain Apple TV's had problems and Apple was replacing the units. I am going to take the unit to the Apple Store and have the it checked to see if it is one of the units that don't work with the latest version of itunes.

You can use one account with iTunes on your Mac, and different account(s) with the Mac App Store (for buying/downloads apps or OS updates for your Mac), iCloud (System Preferences > iCloud) and Messages (Messages > Preferences, or command-comma)
