I tried contact apple support and it says my serial number is invalid

when I try to contact apple support for a chat  (about maveric)  it asks for my computers serial number.  I have read it off the bottom plate of my my stand 3 times to make certain I have it correctly but I get a message that says it is not a valid serial number.  What should I do?

If you don't have a serial number showing, then - most likely - the logic board and/or a hard drive has been replaced in this Mac. When Apple replaced my logic board, they forgot to register/associate the new board to my Mac and I had the same problem. The tech had to come back and use a special device which connects him to a special Apple site where he then registered it.
If you speak to Apple, make sure you have your purchase receipt.
