I tried to install an update for iPhoto but was told I need a newer version of OSX, but software is up to date?

Update notification for Iphoto and when I attempt to install it says I need at least version 10.8.2 installed, when I check my software update it says I have the newest software with 10.8.1?

Thanks, I thought so... but when I look for a newer version I takes me to the mac app update page but doesnt show any updates available other than Iphoto? I guess my real question is how do I update my software when nothing shows in the mac app updates?

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar

Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there.

I just bought the new iphone5 but I cant sync it with my computer. I need to download the latest version of itunes but it wont work. Right now I have itunes 10.6.3 I tried to download but it says I need a newer version and I cant do it.

You have two versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages v5.2.2 in /Applications
Pages ’09 v4 in /Applications/iWork ’09
When you open a Pages ’09 document in the default Pages v5.2.2, it is converted to the latter exclusive, new document format, and is not directly backwards compatible with Pages ’09. You would have to use Export To > Pages ’09 in Pages v5.2.2.
If Pages ’09 is running, with/without an open window — double-clicking a Pages v5.2.2 formatted document, or attempting to open said document with the Pages ’09 document chooser, will generate the dialog you saw. It really means you cannot open this newer document format with your older version of Pages. There is nothing to download, because the cause of this dialog is simply having Pages v5.2.2 installed.
You can open actual Pages ’09 documents:
Right-click, Open with > Pages (4.3)
Via Pages ’09 document chooser
Drag/drop Pages ’09 document on the Pages ’09 Dock icon
Pages ’09 File > Open…
Pages ’09 File > Open Recent >

I have iWork's 9 that inludes pages 4.3. I created a document that I saved. When I tried to open the document today, I was advised I needed a newer version of pages to open the document. Why can't I open an existing pages document?

When I tried to open the document the next day, a dialogue box told me I needed a newer version to open the file. The information provided stated the new app would cost $19.99 and the customer ratings are quite low. Why can't I open a previously created document in iWorks, regardless of the version. This is the first time Apple has demanded that I pay for a new version to open existing documents.

I am with Peter on this issue. Additionally, if you installed the latest IOS Pages (v2.01) on an iPhone or iPad and opened a .pages file on iCloud that was created by Pages ’09 v4.n, or IOS Pages v1.7.n — that document is now in the new .pages file format and only Pages v5 on OS X can open it.

You will be talking online with a very smart and polite person from India, who has everything needed to solve your issue. I recommend you relax and go with the flow of this chat: it may take over an hour to solve your issue, but believe me, they DO actually have what it takes.

As I was cleaning up my mac, I accidentally deleted some files obviously vital for iPhoto. I want to download the new version, but am not sure I can access my photos. Should I download the new version or restore the old one somehow?

Probablhy not unless you know exactly what needs to be restored
You need to restore the entire library from your backup before these files were deleted - it is not adviseable to upgrade the iPhoto application until you resolve your iphoto library problem
In the future always remember the number one rule of iPhoto - NEVER make and changes of any sort to the structrue or content of the iPhoto library
