I want to set password security on a pdf from the command line

I have a pdf file that is created and placed on a report server.  I would like to run a batch cmd to set the security for that pdf based on a saved security policy.  I will call the batch cmd file from a batch application.  Can Acrobat XI handle this operation or do I need a third party tool.  The pdf is created by BI Publisher (Peoplesoft).
Thanks,
Jay

You need to invoke your cmd manually, don't you? So, instead of opening the Terminal application, enter the command and press "Enter" you open Acrobat and click a button. It's a different manual step to start the process, but you need a manual step to start the process anyway. I do realize that you may have a bash/perl/python script that does more than just apply encryption but that's the capability that Acrobat has.
Regretfully, Acrobat JavaScript API does not provide functionality to encrypt with password. You can use JS to encrypt with certificates but [for unknown to me reason] not with passwords. Otherwise it could've written a JS script that encrypts, embed this JS in a separate PDF, open that PDF from a command line with your JS script executing on Open and have this LS script do all the work you need. Well, you can do that for certificate encryption but not for password encryption. I don't know why. And you cannot invoke an action from  a JS either. Oh, well...

  • How I can set my default browser mozilla firefox from the command line in Windows 7?

I need to set my default browser mozilla firefox from the command line, ie without using the GUI.

'''-setDefaultBrowser''' is the correct command - you need the two capital letters.
Why Firefox 17.0.1? You would be missing a number of important security updates. Firefox 17.0.'''9''' is the current ESR release version.

  • I want to delete a wireless entry in Keychain from the command line - how?

We have 800+ laptops that have a wireless that we want deleted from the stations keychain. The ssid is called "campus".
I would like to know how to using command line delete the campus entry. I have been playing with the security command, but cannot seem to delete the keychain entry.
    Any suggestions?

"Everything I know about the command is in the man page. I can't give you a literal command, because I don't know what to put in for the arguments. To be honest, if the man page is not understandable enough for you to build the command, I don't think you should use it at all. Use Profile Manager in OS X Server, which is the right way to do what you're trying to do."
I do not know why this post did not show up here on the thread, I did get the email. Not sure how to respond. We have 800 stations. Can not go and touch each one, so looking for a command line to remove the ssid "campus" - If I read your message correct, you do not know the command line either for this. Thank you.

  • Is there a way to switch between workspaces in Spaces from the command line?  I want to write a script to set up certain applications in certain workspaces (without having to do it manually each time)...

Is there a way to switch between workspaces in Spaces from the comnand line?  I use several workspaces from Spaces, each workspace having a certain number of fixed applications running.  Rather than set all this up each time I log on, I'd like to write a script from the command line (I use gawk) to automate this. Currently I have a gawk script that, given a directory, opens a few xterms whose working directory is the given directory, and opens "preview" applied to a certain file in that directory.  However, at present I have to manually move an xterm through each workspace and run my gawk script in each workspace (applied to each directory that I'm working on).
There must be a better way...

Addendum: Can this be done via:   open -a Spaces --args xxx  , where xxx is some set of arguments (or something like this)?

  • Passwords & Security -- Protecting my Mac from the genius bar

Hi there. I am turning in my mac to the Genius Bar for some general maintenance and I want to make my private content and passwords as secure as possible. Could someone help me with any of the following?
    1. My login is password protected, but they'll need the password. That will also then give them access to my "keychain". Is there any other way to further secure my keychain?
    2. My Firefox is set to automatically log-in to certain websites (e.g. email, social networking sites), but I can't figure out how to disable that. Thoughts?
    3. Any other tips on securing my private data and passwords before handing over my mac? I'm going to back-up and move all my important docs off the computer and onto an external drive before submitting the mac.
    Thanks!!

The only thing you can do to protect your data against a knowledgeable person in possession of your machine is to encrypt it. Although you can do that with FileVault, I don't recommend that (it causes more problems than it solves IMHO). Use something else to encrypt your sensitive data (keychain is secure, as would be encrypted disk images made with Disk Utility).
Also, once you've got sensitive stuff encrypted, create a second admin account and give the Apple techs access to that. They could still reset the password on your original admin account, or could access your stuff using the Terminal and the "sudo" command, but neither will give them access to your keychain.

  • I have NDS 4.16, and I have iMS 5.1 running on Sun, Solaris 8. I want to know how can I add users using the command line instead of the console. My problem is how to set the password to this user?

You can use ldapmodify found in <ServerRoot>/shared/bin
    for example
    ./ldapmodify -h ldaphost -D "cn=directory manager" -w password -f <name of LDIF file>
    Here's an example LDIF file
    dn: uid=cms,ou=people,o=balius.com,o=Universe
    changetype: add
    objectClass: person
    objectClass: organizationalPerson
    objectClass: inetOrgPerson
    objectClass: inetUser
    objectClass: ipUser
    objectClass: inetMailUser
    objectClass: inetLocalMailRecipient
    objectClass: nsManagedPerson
    objectClass: userPresenceProfile
    cn: Chad M. Stewart
    sn: Stewart
    initials: CMS
    givenName: Chad
    pabURI: ldap://host:389/ou=cms,ou=people,o=balius.com,o=Universe,o=pab
    mail: [email protected]
    mailDeliveryOption: mailbox
    mailHost: my.mailhost.com
    uid: cms
    dataSource: Chad by hand
    userPassword: users-password-here
    inetUserStatus: active
    mailUserStatus: active
    mailQuota: -1
on a subsequent search you'd see something like
    userpassword: {SHA}S3e+L/K6

  • I want to set up security for my linksys network.  I foll...

I want to set up security for my linksys network.  I followed the directions outlined on the linksys web site.  I get through the process, create a password (key) and I save the settings.   When I try to log on from my laptop, I am asked for a password, however when I type the password in, the statement says "invalid number of caracters.  How do I get the password process to work so that I am able to secure my network.  Also, without security, can someone break into my laptop and corrupt my files.

With WEP, you must enter WEP "key 1"  (found in the router)  into your computer, not the WEP password or passphase.
However, you should be using WPA2, or at least WPA, and a strong password.
If you use an unsecured wireless router, anyone within range can login and use your Internet connection. At a minumum, this means that they will be using your bandwidth. At worst, they could be uploading copyrighted music, sending spam email, distributing viruses, or downloading child pornography --- all from an account with your name on it!   Additionally, once someone is on your wireless network, they are in a very convenient spot to start attacking your computer.  They  have immediate access to all your shared files, and they could corrupt, steal, or delete them.  With some work, they could likely get to your other files also.  So my advice is --- secure your wireless network.
To set up wireless security, you must use a computer that is wired to the router.
Where to find the router settings: The router's login password is usually on one of the "Administration" pages. The other settings are all found in the "Wireless" section of the router's setup pages, located at 192.168.1.1
First, give your router a unique SSID. Don't use "linksys".
Make sure "SSID Broadcast" is set to "enabled".
Next, leave the router at its default settings (except for the unique SSID), and then use your pc to connect wirelessly to the router. Test your wireless Internet connection and make sure it is working correctly. You must have a properly working wireless connection before setting up wireless security.
To implement wireless security, you need to do one step at a time, then verify that you can still connect your wireless computer to the router.
Next, encrypt your wireless system using the highest level of encryption that all of your wireless devices will support. Common encryption methods are:
WEP - poor (see note below)
WPA (sometimes called PSK, or WPA with TKIP) - good
WPA2 (sometimes called PSK2, or WPA with AES) - best
WPA and WPA2 sometimes come in versions of "personal" and "enterprise". Most home users should use "personal". Also, if you have a choice between AES and TKIP, and your wireless equipment is capable of both, choose AES. With any encryption method, you will need to supply a key (sometimes called a "password" ).
The wireless devices (computers, printers, etc.) that you have will need to be set up with the SSID, encryption method, and key that matches what you entered in the router.
Retest your system and verify that your wireless Internet connection is still working correctly.
And don't forget to give your router a new login password.
Picking Passwords (keys): You should never use a dictionary word as a password. If you use a dictionary word as a password, even WPA2 can be cracked in a few minutes. When you pick your login password and encryption key (or password or passphrase) you should use a random combination of capital letters, small letters, and numbers, but no spaces. A login password, should be 12 characters or more. WPA and WPA2 passwords should be at least 24 characters. Note: Your key, password, or passphrase must not have any spaces in it.
Most home users should have their routers set so that "remote management" of the router is disabled. If you must have this option enabled, then your login password must be increased to a minumum of 24 random characters.
One additional issue is that Windows XP requires a patch to run WPA2. Go to Microsoft Knowledge base, article ID=917021 and it will direct you to the patch.
Sadly, the patch is not part of the automatic Windows XP updates, so lots of people are missing the patch.
    Note:
WEP is no longer recommended. The FBI has demonstrated that WEP can be cracked in just a few minutes using software tools that are readily available over the Internet. Even a long random character password will not protect you with WEP. You should be using WPA or preferably WPA2 encryption.

I just recently upgraded from a 4S to a 5C.  I backloaded the 5 from Itunes and now everytime i plug into itunes, it asks if I want to set up as new or restore from a previous backup.  Why is it doing this.  I did it twice yesterday.....  In addtion, those are the only options I have.  I cannot do anything else unless I choose one of the two.  Zero options.  Phone works fine though.

I figure that either of those options will result in losing all SMS and data created since the last backup. Not a major loss, but ** annoying when nothing has changed and the time it will take to restore.
When was the last time you synced your iPhone with iTunes since the backup is updated as the first step during the sync process?
Is there anyway to recover this WITHOUT having to do a full restore or set up as new?
    In a word, no.
If I do restore or set up as new, how do I know it's not going to do the same thing tomorrow (like a few other forums threads I've read indicate might happen)?
There is no way to know for certain but I've never experienced the same in the first place. I venture to say having to do this is the exception rather than the rule.

For backing up bookmarks, see [[Backing up and restoring bookmarks]]
If you want to back up passwords, you need to use an extension such as Password Exporter. This is located at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2848/ .

  • I want to change my secure adress, because i lost the answers for the security question

APP STORE, I want to change my secure adress, because i lost the answers for the security question. Because my old mail secure adress was closed.

You won't be able to change your rescue email address until you can answer your questions, you will have to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset (these are user-to-user forums).
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT5699
If your country isn't on that page then try this form and explain and see what they reply with : https://ssl.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
When they've been reset you can then update your rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201356
Or if it's available in your country you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT5570

  • How can I set enable HTTP and/or HTTPS Proxies through command line?

I know the exact key/value to be changed; it's in
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist -> NetworkServices -> 46A40FA8-6E7C-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxx -> Proxies -> HTTP(S)Enable ->  should be set to 1
I immdediately thought of using defaults write to carry this out in the command line but I don't know how (or if at all!) that works with multi-level key/values. I only have access to the first level (NetworkServices) with defaults read.
Any help would be much appreciated,
    thanks \.

The networksetup utility is the program OS X uses to change the network configuration.  The Network Preference Pane in system preferences is just a front end to networksetup; networksetup can do everything the preference pane can do (and possibly more).
The parameters you are interested in (from the man page):
    -getwebproxy networkservice
Displays Web proxy (server, port, enabled value) info for <networkservice>.
-setwebproxy networkservice domain portnumber authenticated username password
Set Web proxy for <networkservice> with <domain> and <port number>. Turns proxy on. Optionally, specify <on> or <off> for <authenticated> to enable and disable authenticated proxy support.  Specify <username> and <password> if you turn authenticated proxy support on.
    -setwebproxystate networkservice on | off
Set Web proxy on <networkservice> to either <on> or <off>.
    -getsecurewebproxy networkservice
Displays Secure Web proxy (server, port, enabled value) info for <networkservice>.
-setsecurewebproxy networkservice domain portnumber authenticated username password
Set Secure Web proxy for <networkservice> with <domain> and <port number>. Turns proxy on.  Optionally, specify <on> or <off> for <authenticated> to enable and disable authenticated proxy support. Specify <username> and <password> if you turn authenticated proxy support on.
