I was recently given an ipod touch and the only screen it will show is a usb cable and itunes symbol. I've tried the troubleshooting stuff on this website but it still won't work. Any ideas as to how i can fix this?

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.

Hello cor-el, thanks for your reply. I changed my settings for downloads to desktop and it has appeared on there. When I double click I am asked which program I want to open file. I click firefox and another box "opening install" says I have chosen to open the file which is an application and do I want to save it. This is the only real option so I press save file. I get a box saying this is an executable file which may contain viruses - do you want to run. I press ok and the final box showing C drive file name and desktop appears stating application not found.
This happens the same whenever I try to install.
To my untrained eye the application is not being recognised as an application and I cannot work out how to get it to do that.
My plugin is still showing as out of date.
Is there anything you could suggest. Thanks for your time.

To only answer the question you asked, the answer is yes you can do those specific tasks you mentioned.
My example:

I don't see a problem if all you are looking to do is to translate your form or forms into a report. I could even see several different forms reporting to one sheet that tracks their history. It may require a lot of maintenance if there are an increasing number of forms reporting.
Sometimes merged cells create difficulty in Numbers. A mix of popups and checkboxes may complicate things.
I think the previous advice may turn out to be the best, though. You are asking,"If I head this way am I headed to Japan?" I am saying "Yes". They are saying, "You will need a boat!"

Itunes gets to 99% then stops, does any one have any suggestions as to how I can fix this?

When trying to download Itunes 10.5.1 the download reaches 99% then stops after a while it will say download has been interupted. I have tried using another browsers, disabling firewall and I have followed all the steps or uninstalling and reinstalling as suggested on the website. Disable your firewall and antivirus software. It can cause problems with the update process. Kaspersky is especially bad for this.

Anyone know what I should do if my iphone 4 completely freezes (screens gone blank now but still glowing), unresponsive to any of the buttons so wont lock on or off. Thank you for the question. I would recommend closing all applications in the multitasking menu and then restart the device. Also, check to see how much space is available on the device as this can limit device functionality if it is at capacity. You can check device capacity by going to Settings > General > About.

Also, some e-mail clients are set to convert file format upon sending and this could be the cause of the issue. If this is the case, you would need to refer to the sender to have them correct this in their preferences of their e-mail client.

My iPhone cannot connect to iTunes. It says I need to update to 11.0.5 to use iTunes with my iOS 7 iphone 5 but still won't work, any ideas?

I just downloaded and updated to the new iOS 7 software today for it's release. But when I plug my phone into my usb and then into my macbook, it won't work on iTunes. It says it's not compatible and I need to update to the latest iTunes which they say is 11.0.5. When I go online and download the iTunes installer and download the new update, it works out fine and I don't seem to have any trouble with it but as soon as it opens iTunes when the installer finishs, the mesage about compatibility comes up again even though I just updated to 11.0.5. If anyone has any idea, let me know! I'm hoping that maybe it's just a glitch with the new iTunes that needs to be fixed up?

Thank you for your question. iOS 7 requires iTunes 11.1. First, I recommend trying to obtain the update by going to the iTunes menu and selecting Check for Updates.

I have reset Firefox, completed all the steps in "flash video won't play full screen on YouTube, Facebook and other websites". And the video still won't play in full screen. It will play, but frequently stops or sound continues and picture freezes. I have noticed that if I continually move my mouse, it plays fine. All these videos play fine in IE and Chrome.

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).

My notes started crashing and have been every time I open them for the past few months. They're still included in search but when I click on one, it opens for a brief second but crashes before it's opened completely. Anyone know how I can fix this?

Restarting my iPad didn't work and I can't delete the notes app, since it's one that came with the iPad (I'd lose all my notes that way, anyway). Someone mentioned once that when they synced it with their laptop their notes started working again, but I'd never backed it up to my laptop before, only iCloud.

Fixed it -- go to Settings - General - Reset and select "Reset All Settings." Still annoying, because now you have to go back and re-do all of the ways you customized your settings, but at least Notes is back.
Now if only they'd fix this major "connect to itunes to use push notifications" alert bug that's a constant irritant in some apps and disables others (Dropbox, I'm looking at you) completely.

HT1311 I have two Apple IDs, one with all my purchases and info on it. The one with everything on it is under a bad email address. When I tried to change it to my current email, it tells me I already have an account. How do I fix this?

I had an old iPod under an old Apple ID which was stolen. I replaced it with an iPhone and apparently created a new Id under my current email address. When i went to sync the phone to my comuter (several months later), I accidentally restored the phone to my old iPod settings and lost everything. I then continued to make purchases on the phone but didn't realize that it had reverted back to my old Apple ID. This is under an old email that I no longer have access to. When I tried to change the Apple ID/email address in the account settings, it won't let me because it says that there is already an Apple ID under this address. However, all my information (settings, contacts, photos, aps) are under an incorrect email. How can I change the account I have been using to reflect my valid current email address if there is already an existing account (which I never really used) under this address? Please, I don't want to lose all my info again.

Change the email on the old account to another new, current email address.
An email address can only be linked to one Apple ID.

Quit iTunes.
Use Disk Utility and select the drive if you can, then select Erase and the middle or security option zero all data option (will delete all data of course).
When that's finished, use iTunes to restore it.
That's how I fixed mine. Make sure it's charged up first, the Mac ports sometimes cut the power off.

Everytime i try and upgrade to yosemite it stops when it is almost done downloading and says error for no reason. Any suggestion as to how i can fix this?

Your songs and iTunes balance are fine, they are not influenced by the iTunes applications or any issues it may have. The message you are experiencing indicates the folder where iTunes is saved has changed, or no longer exists. Since you are using a shortcut (a link to where the application iTunes is installed) and you're getting this message, it means the iTunes application is not where it used to be located.
I would suggest trying to reinstall iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes and let us know if you encounter any errors messages.

I am trying to open a garageband file that my friend sent me, but she has a newer macbook pro than I do, so I can't open the file because it says I need to update garageband. I installed the updates but it still won't let me open it. How do I fix it?

The newest version of garageband can't be downloaded on my computer because my operating system isn't new enough, but I can't find a link to download a newer version of garageband than the one I currently have (garageband '09 version 5.1).

What is the GarageBand version that your friend is using?
If it is GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5, you can buy GarageBand '11 as a boxed retail version with the iLIfe '11 bundle, e.g. from Amazon.
Then you can upgrade GarageBand '11 to 6.0.5, using this upgrader from the Support page:

GarageBand 6.0.5 will work well with your system. But if your friend is using the newest GarageBand 10, this will not help. Then ask your friend to send you audio files for each track, so you can recreate the project from the audio. Or your friend could also use GarageBand '11 for the projects you want to share, that will run well in all newer MacOS X versions, even with GarageBand 10.0 installed on the same system.
