[i3][startx] i3: Could not mkdir(/run/user/0/i3): No such file...

Here is the full output:
i3: Could not mkdir(/run/user/0/i3): No such file or directory
i3: Check permissions of $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR = '/run/user/0'
xinit: connection to X server lost
waiting for X server to shut down
(EE) Server terminated successfully (0).
I installed Arch in VirtualBox and installed i3.
I'm running VBox on a Macbook Pro 9,1 (Os X 10.10)
I'm not sure of what to do.
# ~/.xinitrc
# i3 wm
exec i3

i3 usually creates tmpfiles in /tmp. The problem is probably due to trying to run it as root, as prograndy mentioned.
