IAS 6.0 SP3 Cluster install unexpected redirection of request.
I'm having traffic from a web connector routed to a cluster that I didn't
specify during the install. My clusters are in separate hosting centers to
support network failure. When I send traffic to one cluster I'm noticing
the application server in another cluster is receiving the request.
I installed all systems under a global configuration in a central LDAP as
I've only got one applicaiton running accross all systems. Here's what the
system is like:
Cluster A
AppServer 1
Cluster B
AppServer 2
AppServer 3
Web Server A
Configured to connect to AppServer 1
Web Server B
Configured to connect to AppServer 2
Has anyone experienced this, or explain what's wrong in my configuration?
How can I ensure traffic received at one web server is handled by the
closest cluster?
Thanks,
Rodger
This is expected behavior. Loadbalancing decisions are made independent of the
cluster definitions.
By deploying the components as "global" you are telling the webconnector that
they can be executed on any machine the webconnector is aware of. And since all
of the appservers are defined in a central LDAP, the webconnector is aware of
all three servers.
The best solution is to install the Cluster A and Cluster B in different
configuration namespaces in LDAP. (The default namespace is iasconfig.)

Hi All,
I want to install the application server (IAS 6.0 SP3) on a Unix (Solaris 8)
server and web server (IWS 6.0) on another Windows NT server, in another
words a webless installation.
I have installed the IWS 6.0 on the NT machine and IAS 6.0 SP3 on the Unix
server successfully, but am having problem on the NT machine because the NT
version of the IAS 6.0 SP3 Evaluation doesn't allow installation of just the
web connector, and so I installed the whole package and then tried to
manually change the configuration so that hopefully it will marshall the
requests to the IAS installed on the Unix server. I couldn't get it to work
and it is giving an error that says
GX Error (GX2GX)

Have anyone else come across this scenario? I will appreciate it if you
could enlighten me on how it can be done. Thanks in advance.
Christopher LamHi,
You donot have any option to choose a perticular component with iAS testdrive on
NT. So, you can not install only plugin at the webserver end.
I think manual editing doen not help. Can you please let me know what
modifications have you done clearly.
Thanks,

Multiple ASM instances using single cluster install - Is it possible??
Hi,
I have 2 node RAC cluster installed on Linux. All the storage is on EMC. I need to setup another environment using HP storage on the same hosts. Is it possible to created second ASM instance using the same cluster install?? I wanted to have clear separation b/w EMC and HP environments and that's wondering if it's feasible to do that.
Haven't tried it yet to see if it complains.
Thx
AnithaAnitha,
The data migration won't happen (at least not aggressively) until you do step 2 in your list where you remove the EMC disks. That removal operation will take a long time as Oracle will have to move the data before it can complete the operation. If you want to be sure, I'd recommend creating a new disk group with one of your new disks, put a small tablespace in it, create some data in it, then add a disk to that new group and remove the original disk. Then you'll have some confidence in the procedure and verify that it works without risking your production data. After you test, you can drop the disk group and use the disks for their intended purposes.
To answer your question, yes, that's the process exactly as I suggested it above. Should work fine--but will probably take a while to do the remove, so be prepared to leave that running for quite a while (i.e. don't expect to close the terminal and go home right after running the remove).

IMS 5.2 Symetric Cluster Install
hi,
the docs discuss the installation process for an asymetric cluster (Sun Cluster 3.0) in a reasonable amount of detail but there are no specific docs for a symmetric cluster install.
Are these available anywhere?Did you run ims_dssetup script that is included in the latest patch/hotfix bundle or did you use the one in the original dist?
Sounds like you got a mess. Uninstall everything, get rid of registry keys and re-install. Also check for directory server related text files in system32 folder. -
Remove resource from OES 2 sp3 cluster
We have a shared NSS volume resource on our OES 2 sp3 cluster we no longer need. We want to delete the cluster resource and volume so we can recover the space on our SAN. I've read through the documentation and it seems too easy. Am I missing any steps here:
1) offline the resource
2) from the master node, run NSSMU and delete the pool
3) In eDirectory, look at the Cluster Resource objects in the Cluster container to verify that the resource has been deleted from the Cluster container. If necessary, delete the Cluster Resource object and its virtual server object manually.
4) Unpresent and remove the volume on my SAN. (not Novell related but still a step that has to be done)
Is that really it? It seems too easy. Any gotchas in the process? I don't need to reboot my nodes or anything?

That should be it. Just did a few a month or so ago.
If the resource can live on more than one node, I like to rescan the SCSI bus afterwards (after removing the LUN's) just to make sure it "sees" the disk as gone.
But otherwise, yep. Deleting is easy (frighteningly so). -
Servlet session persistance within iAS 6.0 SP3
Hi,
Is it possible to provide failover for servlets, keeping session
persistance, between 2 iAS in a cluster?
What I trying to do is to use the iAS to provide me redundancy for an
application that is 100% based on Servlets and JSP (no EJBs). Is this
possible?

phone: +34 67 699-5921 (ESN 746)Hi Manta,
Yes, it is very well possible with iAS.
If your application is already deployed than to make that distributed so
that both the iAS(Primary and Backup) will store the sesson information,
you need to change few entries of your application in the registry of
both iAS, these are -
- run kregedit
- go to iplanet/Application Server/6.0/J2EE-Module/<App_name> node
than
- insert your domain name value in session-domain key.
- modify the session-impl key value to distributed.
- insert the session-path key value as / (slash)
- ensure that the key session-dsync-type is dsync-distributed
at the end, your key values should look like this -
- session-domain=your.domain.name
- session-dsync-type=dsync-distributed
- session-impl=distributed
- session-path=/
Note: you should make these changes in the registry of all the iAS
servers that are participating in your cluster, or you can redeloy the
Application on all the servers, with appripriate deployment descriptor.
Than restart the two web servers(iws) and the two iAS servers in the
cluster.
Note: start the highest priority server(Primary) first.
The clustering and the distributed session failover can be better seen
through the clustering-examples/samples provided with iAS, like
clustering-servlet and clustering-jsp.
Please see the page:
http://<hostname.domainname>:<http-port>/ias-samples
for all the sample applications that comes with iAS and
http://<hostname.domainname>:<http-port>/ias-samples/cluster/docs/index.html
for cluster related sample application.
Please feel free to mail me if you have any further queries.

Reinstall Vista Home over XP PRO SP3. XP Pro SP3 was installed over Vista
MY Dell Inspion originally had Vista Home Basic 32 bit installed.
At my request vendor installed XP PRO.
Subsequently updated XP Pro to SP3.
As you know, XP Pro support has ended.
Have Re-installation DVD for Vista Home 32 bit.
Question: May I reinstall Vista Home without having to perform a CLEAN Install. IF yes, please give me definitive step-by-step instructions. IF no, need ALL the specifics so may replace XP Pro with
Vista Home.
Thank you for your time and assistance. fecvAs recommended by Microsoft You have to go through a clean installation.

11G Cluster Install: Identify Net Interface shows wrong IP subnets??
I'm in the middle of an 11Gr2 cluster install.
On the screen where it has you Identify Network Devices,
On my eth0 (public) ip...and the eth3 (vip) listings...it has the wrong subnet.
Example...
11.8.224.0(shown by oui)....should be 11.8.232.0 for eth0
and
11.8.224.0 (shown by oui)...should be 11.8.232.0 for eth3
eth1, is shown correctly.
When I look at ifconfig...I confirm my subnet numbers should be ok. I cannot find a way on the OUI screen, to change anything about the subnet IP address. It will only let me change the "type" to public, private or do not use.
Any ideas where the OUI is picking up its information concerning the network interfaces?? I dunno why it is showing 224 rather than 232.
Any suggestions? I can't find anything about this on the Oracle support site...
This is on a RHEL5 box, 64 bit.
Thanks in advance,
cayenneYes,
you can configure etho or eth1 using
#system-config-networkafter changes done you have to restart the services, make sure both the nodes are not using same ethernet ports

Simple two node Cluster Install - Hung after reboot of first node
Hello,
Over the past couple of days I have tried to install a simple two node cluster using two identical SunFire X4200s, firstly following the recipe in: http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/howtoguides/twonodecluster.jsp
and when that failed referring to http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-0912 and http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2970.
I am trying to keep the install process as simple as possible, no switch, just back to back connections for the internal networking (node1 e1000g0 <--> node2 e1000g0, node1 e1000g1 <--> node2 e1000g1)
I ran the installer on both X4200s with default answers. This went through smoothly without problems.
I ran scinstall on node1, first time through, choosing "typical" as suggested in the how to guide. Everything goes OK (no errors) node2 reboots, but node1 just sits there waiting for node2, no errors, nothing....
I also tried rerunning scinstall choosing "Custom", and then selecting the no switch option. Same thing happened.
I must be doing something stupid, it's such a simple setup! Any ideas??
Here's the final screen from node1 (dcmds0) in both cases:

Rob.I have found out why the install hung - this needs to be added into the install guide(s) at once!! - It's VERY frustrating when an install guide is incomplete!
The solution is posted in the HA-Cluster OpenSolaris forums at:
http://opensolaris.org/os/community/ha-clusters/ohac/Documentation/SCXdocs/relnotes/#bugs
In particular, my problem was that I selected to make my Solaris install secure (A good idea, I thought!). Unfortunately, this stops Sun Cluster from working. To fix the problem you need to perform the following steps on each secured node:
Problem Summary: During Solaris installation, the setting of a restricted network profile disables external access to network services that Sun Cluster functionality uses, ie: The RPC communication service, which is required for cluster communication
Workaround: Restore external access to RPC communication.
Perform the following commands to restore external access to RPC communication.
# svccfg
svc:> select network/rpc/bind
svc:/network/rpc/bind> setprop config/local_only=false
svc:/network/rpc/bind> quit
# svcadm refresh network/rpc/bind:default
# svcprop network/rpc/bind:default | grep local_only
Once I applied these commands, the install process continued ... AT LAST!!!

Webcenter Site 11g : Cluster Install : logout issue facing.
Hi Friends ,
We have installed the Webcenter site 11g Cluster install on Weblogic server successfully. We have faced any issues while installation. After successful installtion , When we login to sample sites( going here & then) and click on the LOGOUT button on the page , its not logging out , again it is landing with same page where we clicked LOGOUT button.
We shutdown one cluster server (NODE1) , and NODE2 was up and running , now logout issue is not persisting and same NODE2 was down and NODE1 was up , now also no issue. BUT , if we start accessing sites from LBR url , this logout issue facing. There is no Error in sites..log & cas.log.
:-( we have created the ORacle SR , but still we have not received any soln.
Please help us , what could be the issue here.
NaveenIt's possible this is due to the cas url not being set correctly. In SSOConfig.xml you have two places to set this
casUrl - needs to be set to the external address for cas, this link will be included in pages visible to the end user (eg via webserver or loadbalancer).
casInternalUrl - needs to be set to an internal address for cas, Sites/CS will call this directly (should not go through webserver/loadbalancer)
If these are correct, then try to rule out whether the webserver/loadbalancer is an issue
- is it session sticky?
- if you set casUrl / casInternalUrl to point direct to cas can you login/logout direct to CS without the loadbalancer?

Question
firefox has detected the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. This is happening in my email program with comcast but does not happen with IE e editThanks to cor-el for the suggestion given in the link. Sadly I have to report:
1) It is not a bookmark problem and it makes no difference whether I put
www.adobe.com or 192.150.18.117 in the address bar.
2) Cookies are allowed and there are no exceptions set
3) All cookies have been deleted
4) network.http.sendRefererHeader is already set to 2
That deals with the items in the linked document.
Additional information:
5) I can get into the adobe site from a clean "in memory" installation of PuppyLinux using Seamonkey using the same router and dhcp setup.
6) un-installing all Mozilla products - rebooting and re-installing makes no difference even when I remove the mozilla folder from docs&settings.
so as I said in previous post (as annonymous) not a lot makes sense.
Bear in mind that I have no problem running tracert in a command window
