IBook Author - does it produce iBooks, Apps or both?

iBooks Author is capable of creating an interactive experience that blurs the line between book and app.
For example:
The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore
It is located in the APP store, yet it falls under
the books category.
However it doesn't appear in the Bookstore?
http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/fantastic-flying-books-mr./id438052647?mt=8
We are using iBooks to produce an interactive multi-touch book.
Do all iBook authored products appear in the IBooks store?
Is it possible to produce a multi-touch book with iBooks Author and be listed in the APP store?
Thank you.

iBooks Author creates a .iBooks file, which is used with the iOS app iBooks 2 on an iPad.
Apps are built using Xcode.
I have an app in the store that is in the Books category...the trick is to not call it a 'book' when submitting - mine is actually a user manual for a product. If you submit an app and call it a book, the review team tends to tell you to draft a book instead, rather than making an app, and submit to that part of the store.
You can't put an iBook (file/product) in the App Store as an iOS app, sorry.

Why has my iBook app frozen? I was perusing a list of authors and got stuck on Jane Austin.  I can't get back to the home page and my book shelf.  Pleas help!

You don't have much choice, do you? You're either going to have to restore the software or take it to the Genius Bar to see about getting that button fixed.

  • IBooks Author does not open existing ibook

I updated iBooks Author yesterday and saved an existing ibook on my Mac and USB drive. Today morning, the book is refusing to open, displaying a "invalid format" message. The file also apprears to have shrunk in size, from 250mb to 8kb.
Any idea of what happened and how I can resolve this? Or would I have to re-do the whole thing?

I found the answer here. I guess I just didn't dig long enough!
The short answer is that iBooks Author does not output a format that supports iPhone. Use Pages to generate an ePub file that supports iPhone, etc.

  • Authoring a book made with iBook app cannot be sold anywhere else?

Is it true that books made with the iBook Author app and sold through the iBook store can't be sold anywhere else? If so, I sure hope people in here are aware of that. Just an FYI
    I found this on http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/apple-absolute-worst-thinks-owns-221600501.html
Dan Wineman pointed out on his blog that Apple's End User License Agreement (EULA) states that books made with the iBook Author app and sold through the iBook store can't be sold anywhere else.
However, if you offer your book for free in the iBooks store, then you can distribute it for free anywhere else you want. Wow, how generous of apple... Just because you use their software??? What a joke

You can distribute free copies anywhere you please without issue.
If export the content from an iBooks Author file (.iba) into another format (say via copy and paste, pdf export, etc...), you are free to do that; you own the rights to your own content.

I just watched a pod-cast about iBook app. They talked about the licensing for the iBook app. Exporting an iBook to a PDF (or to another format) can't be sold outside the iBook store.

It's taken off both iPhone and the new iPad

You can insert the PDF that you want to have on iBooks trough iTunes using the library section "books", or simply drag and drop the PDF to iTunes and sync your iPhone, iPad.
You can also open a PDF on Safari and tap on open in iBooks at the top of screen.

  • IBook created with iBooks Author does not appear on iPhone

    Hi,
My daughter created and published a book using iBooks Author but it only shows up in the iPad and Mac version of iBooks.
Is there a way to get it to work on the iPhone iBooks store as well?
    Thank you for your courage.

  • IBook app, does not start !

    Hi
The iBook app does not start !
I can't get into the library, it takes a minute at the gray background without shelfs, and then goes out.
    I tried somethings like:
-remove books by iTunes and re sync them.
    -reset the phone
-turning off and on the phone
    but still have problem.

    Howdy Safa,
If you are having an issue with your iPhone's iBooks application not being able to launch, and you have already tried resetting and restarting the iPhone, I would suggest the next step would be to back up any data on your iPhone and restore it as a new device. See this article for directions -
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

  • I am confused about something.  How do I read a book on my MacBook Pro?  I can't find the iBook app anywhere, which is what I use on my iPad.  The book I want to read is in my iTunes but I can't click on it.  My iBook library does not show up in iTunes.

I am confused about something.  How do I read a book on my MacBook Pro?  I can't find the iBook app anywhere, which is what I use on my iPad.  The book I want to read is in my iTunes but I can't click on it.  Some of my iBooks show up in my iTunes but they are "grayed" out.  The only books that respond in iTunes are audiobooks and that's not what I'm looking for.  Is this a stupid question?

Nevermind - I answered my own question, which is I CAN"T READ ANY BOOKS I purchased in iBooks on my MacBook Pro.  If I want to read on my mac I have to use Kindle or Nook.  Which means any book I've already purchased through iBooks has to be read on my iPad.  Kind of a drag because there are times when it's more convenient for me to read while I'm sitting with my Mac.

  • Video output enabled on iBooks app?

    Dear friends,
As I would need to make a presentation with an eBook file I created with iBooks Author, does anybody know if the video output is enabled on iPads while using iBooks app? That would be the only way to show ay eBook live with a video projector.
    Thanks for your help!
    Diego Meozzi

Not all apps are enabled for airplay, this is up to the developer to do.

  • IBA -ibooks file crashes my iBooks App

I have an Ipad 2 running IOS 7.0.2 I just created an .ibook using Ibooks Author, the file is 20.5 mb if I try to open in ibooks on my IPad2 the app crashes.
I had the same thing happen before I exported to .ibooks as I tried to preview entire book and ibooks crashed doing that too.
Just published the ibook, as mentioned its 20.5mb
added to library in Itunes synced with ipad, book displays on Ibooks shelf. If I try to open it and iBooks crashes.
All other e pubs open fine. This is a book for a client of mine, I cannot tell him that here is your book but it crashes the Ibooks app when you open it.
There are NO IMAGES just 100+ pages of text.
Anybody? As I do a search for this topic and I see tons of questions but no answers.
    I'm  running IOS 7.0.2 on my IPad2
    Any help?

OK I tried to open two books I had done last year using IBA, both crashes the program as well.
    Now what?
What do you mean? They worked before but not now? Are they store versions? Do you think it's an iOS/iBooks issue?
If iBooks is crashing regardless, check free space on that device, reinstall iBooks & sync fresh copies of your stuff - still no joy, try another device -- else, contact Apple.

  • I'm looking for a bluetooth remote for iPad's iBooks app

I'm looking for a bluetooth remote that will allow me to flip the pages of a book in the iBooks app.
Does anybody know of such a thing? I have found remotes for the iPad, but they seem obscure as to what it can accomplish. I need something more than something that plays iTunes remotely. I have a specific need.
Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Yubz Magnum really has great sound. They come in four colors too.

  • How to put a doc file in the iBook app on an iPhone

I have been successful moving PDF onto the iBook app on my iPhone 3GS but the same procedure does not with with a Doc.  There is a "DOC" category listed within the iBook app itself so I should be able to do it.
Dragging the file from "finder" into the ebook section within iTunes is how I get PDFs into iBook.  Is there a different way for Docs?
I am on a Macbook Pro using Lion  10.7.3.
    IPhone is a 3GS

It appears that doc files cannot be put on the iBook App....only PDFs and ePub files.

  • HT4059 I am on holiday in Berlin and have uploaded iOS 6. Now the iBook app is in German! No use to me so I can't download books at the moment. Anyone else had this problem??

Yesterday I downloaded iOS 6 in all innocence and since then my iBooks app will only appear in German. Surely it is possible to choose the language you read in? Will everyone who leaves the UK or USA find the iPad automatically chooses the language of the connection being used?? Ridiculous! Does anyone know how to sort this out?? Maybe Apple do?

I told the guy I was not willing to give up my unlimited plan AND pay full price for the phone, I thanked him for his time and we left.
Here is my advice, at least. Not sure if anyone will agree, but it is my take on the problem.
With the Edge program, there is a "possibility" that someone will pay full price for a phone. This is not always the case, though. IF you do not complete ALL of the 24 months of payments, then you WILL NOT have paid full price for the phone, but simply a portion of the full price. THAT is why it does not make the plan "eligible" to keep your unlimited data. With the Edge plan, technically you only have to pay 50% of the full price before you can trade it in for another phone on the Edge plan. The way the plan is designed, the majority of people WILL NOT ever pay full price for the phone, but only a portion of the full price before they exchange their phone for a new device. That is what Verizon is hoping for, at least.
As Ann154 has pointed out, you can use the Device Payment Plan and keep your unlimited data. At no time during your contract can you trade THAT phone in to get another phone. You would have to continue making the payments on THAT phone along with any other phone you upgraded to. THAT is the difference between the 2 plans. You WILL end up paying full price for the phone on the Device Payment Plan, where you can STOP making payments on a phone with the Edge Plan if you turn it in for another device.
    Good luck.

  • Where did my IBook app go?

I cannot find the IBook app button.
I know this is such a silly question, however after I downloaded the IBook app I assumed it would be on the home page with the other apps. I do see it listed when I click the settings app button in the left side panel.
Could someone please explain what I'm doing right, wrong, or indifferent?
    Thank's so very much.

No, I don,t. In fact none of my apps are showing. The home page is only showing the apps that came with the IPad. I have the IPhone and assumed the home page on the IPad would fill up with apps as I added them just like it, however I can't find any photos showing that.

  • Permissions Differ on Applications/iBooks.app

Hi I recently restarted my MacBook Pro mid 2012 with mavericks installed and was stuck on the start up loading screen.
I restarted on the recovery drive and did disk utility.
    After verifying the disk permissions I came across a number of problems that are all relating to iBooks.app - examples;
permissions differ on "applications/iBooks.app/contents/plugins/BKAssetEpub.bundle/contents/resources /cs.lproj/BKEpubAppearanceViewController.strings"; should be -rw-r--r-- they are -rw-rw-r--
    Group differs on "applications/iBooks.app/contents/plugins/BKAssetEpub.bundle/contents/resources /cs.lproj/localizable.strings"; should b 0; group is 80
There is a lot of these errors that have come up. What caused this and what can I do to make sure this doesn't happen again?

    Hi sdhammond,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The first thing I would suggest is to repair permissions for the iBooks app on your Macbook Pro.
Troubleshooting permissions issues in Mac OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963
This is a summary of the information provided in this article specific to your situation:
Using the Finder application, open the Applications folder
Right Click or Control Click on the iBooks app.
Choose "Get Info" from the contextual menu.
Look at the Sharing & Permissions section of this window.
(You may need to click on the padlock icon and type in your computer administrator password).
Under Administrators in the Sharing & Permissions section, you should see your name.
Change permissions to Read & Write for account.
    Click OK
If repairing permissions does not resolve your issue, here's how to delete the iBooks app and reinstall it from the Mac App Store:
    Troubleshooting the Mac App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3624
    Open the Finder.
Choose Applications from the Go menu.
Locate your app in the Applications folder.
Delete the app that will not open (drag iBooks to the trashcan icon on the dock).
    Open the Mac App Store.
Ensure that you are logged in to the Mac App Store with the same account that purchased the app.
Select the Purchases view from the top of the Mac App Store window.
Find the app and click the Install button beside it.
The app will be installed on the Mac you are using.
    Cheers,
    Judy
