IBA -ibooks file crashes my iBooks App

I have an Ipad 2 running IOS 7.0.2 I just created an .ibook using Ibooks Author, the file is 20.5 mb if I try to open in ibooks on my IPad2 the app crashes.
I had the same thing happen before I exported to .ibooks as I tried to preview entire book and ibooks crashed doing that too.
Just published the ibook, as mentioned its 20.5mb
added to library in Itunes synced with ipad, book displays on Ibooks shelf. If I try to open it and iBooks crashes.
All other e pubs open fine. This is a book for a client of mine, I cannot tell him that here is your book but it crashes the Ibooks app when you open it.
There are NO IMAGES just 100+ pages of text.
Anybody? As I do a search for this topic and I see tons of questions but no answers.
I'm  running IOS 7.0.2 on my IPad2
Any help?

OK I tried to open two books I had done last year using IBA, both crashes the program as well.
Now what?
What do you mean? They worked before but not now? Are they store versions? Do you think it's an iOS/iBooks issue?
If iBooks is crashing regardless, check free space on that device, reinstall iBooks & sync fresh copies of your stuff - still no joy, try another device -- else, contact Apple.

  • Quicktime File Crashing Both Quicktime App and Finder in Mac, but Not Windows

    Hi,
I have a drive full of Apple ProRes Quicktime files.  Almost all of them play perfectly, except 2.  Those 2 files have played in the past, but I've had problems with them.  They've come back to functionality in the past, but now they are not working again and I don't understand why.
Whenever I go to open the files with Quicktime Pro 7, Quicktime X, FCP 7, Adobe Premiere or Adobe Media Encoder, I get the spinning beach ball and not only does Quicktime crash, but the finder crashes as well.  If I go to restart the finder, it never comes back online and I have to restart my late 2011 macbook Pro.
I've tried repairing permissions and on the Macbook Hardrive and have used Disk Utility and Disk warrior on the hardrive containing the 2 quicktime files. Nothing has solved the problem.
At first, I thought the Quicktime files might have become corrupted, but I installed Windows 7, using bootcamp, on the same macbook, hooked up the external hardrive and was able to play the quicktimes perfectly in Windows with quicktime 7 (not pro, because I don't want to buy it just for windows).  So, there is some sort of incompatability between these two quicktime files and my Macboook.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be going on?
    -Scott

If you are on Windows Vista and trying to write something to
"Program Files" or its sub folders, write will not end up in the
right place as "Program Files" is protected. What ever you write
might go to a virtual store location. If that's the case try
    writing to app storage folder.

  • I can't open pdf files with Ibooks app. The files open for some seconds and then they disappear! Thanks

Files open and disappear in few seconds!

It sounds like the app is crashing for whatever reason. Start with simple, easy things.
Quit iBooks and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If those things do not help - you may want to consider deleting the iBooks app and reinstall it. Make sue that all of your books and pdf files have been backed up and synced with iTunes before you delete the app.

  • I have few PDf files on my computer and I want to add them to my ipod touch, please tell me the procedure on how should I do that? Secondly I want to run these Pdf files through the ibook app, as it also have the Pdf file sections

I have few PDf files on my computer and I want to add them to my ipod touch, please tell me the procedure on how should I do that? Secondly I want to run these Pdf files through the ibook app, as it also have the Pdf file sections

You should be able to just place them in your Books library in iTunes and check to ensure that your Book library is configured to sync to your iPod when you sync your iPod to iTunes.

  • How to put a doc file in the iBook app on an iPhone

I have been successful moving PDF onto the iBook app on my iPhone 3GS but the same procedure does not with with a Doc.  There is a "DOC" category listed within the iBook app itself so I should be able to do it.
Dragging the file from "finder" into the ebook section within iTunes is how I get PDFs into iBook.  Is there a different way for Docs?
I am on a Macbook Pro using Lion  10.7.3.
    IPhone is a 3GS

It appears that doc files cannot be put on the iBook App....only PDFs and ePub files.

  • IBooks app retaining old .ibooks information after newer version of file is added to app

The title pretty much says it all.  When creating a file in iBooks author, then exporting it to say, the desktop, as an .ibooks file - then adding that to the iBooks app on the iPad in iOS 7, it reads fine and everything looks great.
Going back to that same project in iBooks author, revising it, then exporting it to the desktop (with and without different revision levels and titles), then importing it into iBooks on the iPad results in the existing file opening up on the iPad with none of the changes acknowledged.
If you first *remove* the original file from iBooks on the iPad, then import the new file you're fine - but for some reason the iBooks app doesn't acknowledge the revision update otherwise (this is for a non profit title not being distributed through the store).  We've tried this on three different computers and iPads, all with the same results.  Any ideas as to why this is?
    Thanks!

If you first *remove* the original file from iBooks on the iPad, then import the new file you're fine
You've just correctly defined the process for your example. The 'update' process that is quoted by Apple applies to store distribution.
If you can't rely on your users to delete the old version when you release a new version, don't version-update a given book - instead, publish editions...unique books in a series. myBook 1; myBook 2; myBook 3, etc.

  • IBooks App and File Sharing

I have iBooks on my iPad 2 and iPhone4.  I also have some PDF files that I transferred from my desktop computer into my iBooks Library.  I'm assuming that I transferred those PDF files via the File Sharing protocol with the iBooks App.
I now want to add another new PDF file to my iBooks Library, however I don't see iBooks as an available App for File Sharing in the Apps window; I see the following Apps as being available,  GarageBand, Google Earth, Keynote, Kindle, Pages, and Quickoffice --- but no iBooks.  I can't determine what I did to transfer some previous PDF files into iBooks, I assume it was with the file share feature and that iBooks was a listed App available for file sharing, but it does not appear as available now.
Is there another way to get a PDF file into iBooks or is there something that I need to perform to get iBooks to appear as a File Sharing App.

It's not done via file sharing, it's done via the Books tab on the device in iTunes . You can add the PDFs into iTunes either via File > Add File to Library or by dragging them over and onto iTunes - they should then appear in the Books section of your iTunes library (if Books doesn't appear on the left-hand pane as a 'Library'  then you can add it by ticking it on the General tab in Edit > Preferences). You can then add them to your iPad either by dragging them across from the Books library and onto the iPad, or via the iPad device's Books tab

  • The iBook app crashes

While downloading a book into iBooks the book didn't open and the iBooks app closes ,I am not able to delete the book or even open the app.
    What can be done?
    Please advice

Try a rest: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, turn the iPad back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

  • HT5557 How to set Night mode on Ipad Mini iBooks apps when reading PDF file?

How to set Night mode in iBooks (ver 3.1) for iPad Mini?

It's not available within the iBooks app  for PDFs, the closest you can get is to the Invert Colours accessibility option  (though pictures will appear negative) -  you can set Settings > General > Accessbility > Triple-Click Home to 'Invert Colours', which means that you can then use a triple-click of the home button to go to white text on a black background.

  • Authoring a book made with iBook app cannot be sold anywhere else?

Is it true that books made with the iBook Author app and sold through the iBook store can't be sold anywhere else? If so, I sure hope people in here are aware of that. Just an FYI
    I found this on http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/apple-absolute-worst-thinks-owns-221600501.html
Dan Wineman pointed out on his blog that Apple's End User License Agreement (EULA) states that books made with the iBook Author app and sold through the iBook store can't be sold anywhere else.
However, if you offer your book for free in the iBooks store, then you can distribute it for free anywhere else you want. Wow, how generous of apple... Just because you use their software??? What a joke

    erichfromwa wrote:
Part of Apple's licensing agreement states that if you sell your .ibook generated file, that it must be done through the iBookstore.
You can distribute free copies anywhere you please without issue.
If export the content from an iBooks Author file (.iba) into another format (say via copy and paste, pdf export, etc...), you are free to do that; you own the rights to your own content.

I just watched a pod-cast about iBook app. They talked about the licensing for the iBook app. Exporting an iBook to a PDF (or to another format) can't be sold outside the iBook store.

  • Video output enabled on iBooks app?

    Dear friends,
As I would need to make a presentation with an eBook file I created with iBooks Author, does anybody know if the video output is enabled on iPads while using iBooks app? That would be the only way to show ay eBook live with a video projector.
    Thanks for your help!
    Diego Meozzi

Not all apps are enabled for airplay, this is up to the developer to do.

  • My iBooks app now displays all PDF's as "Untitled"

    Good Morning:
My iPhone 3GS is now displaying all new PDF's with the title "Untitled" in my ibooks app. This started after the recent iBooks update. The previous PDF's I have on iBooks from before the update all have the titles of the PDF as it was listed in the Email that the PDF came from. How can I change this so that I will be able to see the PDF titles in iBooks again.
    Thanks Very Much!

    Update:
I went to the Genius Bar at a local Apple Store yesterday and was given the following steps that will remedy the problem with the PDF's
Drag and Drop PDF's directlty from MY Documents (if you are using a PC with Windows XP) and put the PDF's Directly into the Book section in the Library in iTunes.
Then Sync the iPhone in iTunes and the PDF's will display with the names you have chosen.
Do Not Email the PDF's and open them in iBooks or the PDF's will display with the name Untitled.
Note: Be sure to delete the PDF's that are displaying as "Untitled" from the iPhone first as well as the PDF's that are on iTunes as the original cryptic PDF File Name. Then Drag and Drop a fresh Copy of the PDF's and put them into iTunes. After syncing the PDF's will display in iBooks with the name you have chosen.

  • IBook Author - does it produce iBooks, Apps or both?

iBooks Author is capable of creating an interactive experience that blurs the line between book and app.
    For example:
The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore
It is located in the APP store, yet it falls under
    the books category.
However it doesn't appear in the Bookstore?
    http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/fantastic-flying-books-mr./id438052647?mt=8
We are using iBooks to produce an interactive multi-touch book.
Do all iBook authored products appear in the IBooks store?
Is it possible to produce a multi-touch book with iBooks Author and be listed in the APP store?
    Thank you.

iBooks Author creates a .iBooks file, which is used with the iOS app iBooks 2 on an iPad.
    Apps are built using Xcode.
I have an app in the store that is in the Books category...the trick is to not call it a 'book' when submitting - mine is actually a user manual for a product. If you submit an app and call it a book, the review team tends to tell you to draft a book instead, rather than making an app, and submit to that part of the store.
You can't put an iBook (file/product) in the App Store as an iOS app, sorry.

  • I have bought and ipad first generation and i would like to put my ebooks on how can I do this please the Ibook app will not download on this ipad

I have bought a apple ipad 1st generation and I would like to put my ebooks on how would I do this the ibook app will not download on this ipad many thanks for any help offered

Try downloading the current version of the iBooks app on your computer's iTunes so that the app is in your purchase history. Then on your iPad go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app and see if you can download an older compatible version of it.
If the ebooks aren't ibooks, then unless they are digital-rights-management free epubs then you probably won't be able to add them to your computer's iTunes library (File > Add To Library) and sync them to your iPad - in they do have DRM on them then does the store that you got them from have their own app in your computer's iTunes ? If they then you could try the above and see if they have an iOS 5 compatible version available.
