ICal 2 on emac with 10.4 subscribing to iCals  created on Intel 10.5 iCal

The iCal on the emac is not picking up the published iCals produced on an Intel 10.5 iCal. I have tried deleting and re-subscribing to no avail. Should I upgrade the emac to Leopard? Any ideas?

Steven,
Maybe I should upgrade the emac to Leopard?
Only if your eMac meets these technical specifications... http://www.apple.com/macosx/techspecs/ ,and you absolutely want Leopard features.
I am using both Tiger and Leopard successfully with MobileMe. As long as everything else is working, I personally would not upgrade.
Perhaps I do not fully understand your basic question. If you want a user account to have read access only, a published/subscribed calendar will meet that requirement as long as the published calendar is set up to publish whenever changes are made.

  • How do I do to conect an Emac with a Mac Book Pro Mid 2009

I want to conect my Emac with my Mac Book Pro Mid 2009 in order to share and move files. I bought a firewire cable 9 pins to 6 pins and conected both computers but I am unable to see the hard drives and move files.

You eMac will need to be booted into Target Disk Mode.
Restart the eMac and hold the T key. It will then show up on your MBPs Desktop.

  • (URGENT) eMac with leopard running FCE 2?

I have an apple eMac running 10.5.8 and i got a great deal on FCE 2.0 i was wondering if this would work on the machine?

Yes, FCE 2 should run fine on an eMac with 10.5.8
If it were me, I'd prefer FCE 3 or 3.5 on your machine but if your deal is for FCE 2, you'll be fine.

  • Running eMac with Broken CRT... Dangerous? Disconnect-able?

I have on hand a 1.25ghz emac. The logic board and all hardware work. The CRT was damaged in shipping. At start up, there is a "squeel" and a little bit of a spark in the back. I've been using it "in proxy" with Leopard's "Share Screen" mode. Pretty slick! But what risk am I posing by using an eMac with the Broken CRT?
If no "hazardous" elements are involved, can the power to the display be disconnected from the down converter or something? Leaving the power to go to the Mobo? It would be nice to not have the CRT being powered up....
    Thanks in advance.
    Dave

If it is making a noise and sparking, that ought to be corrected to be safe.
This page may guide you to what you want to do.
    Headless eMac
The article seems partly experimental rather than proven, but you may get some useful understanding of what is involved.
If you succeed, post back and tell us the outcome. I am not one to throw away things if only one component has gone, so I applaud your resourcefulness. Just don't get zapped! Good luck.

  • Building Emacs with Xft on Arch64

When I try do build Emacs with Xft (I tried both the source and AUR) I get the following error:
make[2]: *** No rule to make target `/usr/lib64/crt1.o', needed by `temacs'.  Stop.
On my machine crt1.o is in /usr/lib not in /usr/lib64.
Probably there is an easy way to solve this.
    Thanks for any help,
    Markus.

try adding --libdir=/usr/lib to the configure options.

  • Help Migrating from eMac with 10.4 to Mac Mini with 10.5.8

    Hi All,
I'm stumped. My friend has an old eMac with 10.4 on it, and when I upgraded my machine from a Mac Mini, I decided to donate it to her. I thought I'd be able to use Migration Assistant, but it apparently needs at least 10.5 on both machines. I tried to upgrade her eMac to 10.5, but it's so old and clunky, it just freezes when you try (it's only got 256MB of RAM).
Any ideas? Since there's no time machine on 10.4, that's not an option - but she does have an external hard-drive that I could use.
    Thanks all -

Erase and install the Mac Mini and then when prompted at restart tell it to import the data from the eMac - it should just work. It is always better to erase and install if you get a second hand machine anyway both for security purposes (for the old user) and also to ensure that none of the stuff left behind by the previous user will interfere with your usage of your new Mac

  • Installing emacs with xorg

    Hello,
I just installed arch last night and managed to get my network up and running in less than 20 minutes! So far, I am loving it! The problem I have is: how do I go about installing emacs with x.org server? When I try installing emacs it requires xaw3d which by itself asks for xfree86 which apparently conflicts with xorg.
In general, how to install packages and 'ignore' certain dependancies? I realize the popular opinion is that it's bad, but, for example, I know I don't need xorg to run just plain console emacs.
I'm coming from the world of Slackware and I'm sort of used to no-dependancy-checking so...
    A very nice forum BTW,

  • Digital Camcorder & router/Airport USB 2.0 to connect eMac with only USB 1

I've looked around and asked many sources, only to come to the same conclusion that I already thought I knew... no way to go from USB 2.0 through another interface to use firewire on an eMac with only USB 1.1.
I'm curious if anyone has connected a router with a USB 2.0 to an older mac, eMac and/or TiBook in my case via ethernet so that a digital camcorder might appear under the ip-based items available from the router?
there is no reason, other than it being painfully slow over USB 1.1 to think beyond the eMac as it otherwise does every task necessary for my in-laws perfectly. never had a single problem that wasn't caused by their inexperience with a computer, which also makes using a mac so much easier to troubleshoot and fix. they just bought a nice digital hdd (hard disk drive, not hd res) camcorder that communicates via USB 2.0 (as almost all do nowadays).
will any router, or more-specifically an Airport router, be able to communicate with the camcorder via its own USB 2.0 interface and then distribute that data over ethernet to the eMac, or would the router be hamstrung by the same USB 1.1 bottleneck that would affect it if done directly.
I'm also open to other alternatives... I haven't had a chance to play with the camcorder yet, but I imagine that it will somehow mount to the desktop were it able to comm via 2.0. any thoughts?
    cheers,
    - jeremy

    hi duane,
thanks for the quick reply. excellent info.
i noticed that your email said more than the post, did you edit out the last statement, as that was what i was going to comment on...?
my digi camcorder, a tape-based model, does show up like a volume on the desktop, but i wasn't sure of the new hd-based one that my in-laws purchased would. i am able to see the other not just in imovie, so perhps it will mount in the usb port of a router. i don't have an AEBS, but would purchase one specifically for this use if it did work. however i will test it on my us robotics and belkin models that have usb as well. i might also try my NAS drive that has a usb port for daisy-chaining more usb items.
the good thing is that the bottleneck on the emac won't affect the process, it's just a matter of whether the hdd-camcorder can be mounted via one of the other options.
thanks for the other comments, i'll mark as answered once i see how it goes...
    anyone else have any thoughts?

  • I have two different emacs with two slightly different problems

    Hello,
I just recently got three emacs in used condition. One works perfectly (I'm typing from it right now), but the other two are giving me problems, and I'm not sure what could be causing the problems.
The first one takes a long time to load into Mac OS X 10.4, and when it does, it doesn't seem to recognize any of my usb devices.
The second one usually freezes at a blue screen, but sometimes, it will get to the desktop, which is possibly frozen as well, because my usb keyboard and mouse do not work on this one as well.
What can I narrow these problems down to?
    Thanks
    Nami

    Welcome!
The first step with used eMacs that act out is to see if they fall in a range of machines that had a near-fatal logic board defect. This affects 1.0G and 1.25Ghz eMacs with USB 2.0 logic boards. The easiest way to check is to see if the computers' serial numbers fall in any of these ranges:
    G8412xxxxxx- G8520xxxxxx
    YM412xxxxxx - YM520xxxxxx
    VM440xxxxxx - VM516xxxxxx
If so, there is little an individual can do to correct the problem as it requires a new logic board or, at least, skill in removing and replacing small logic board components.
The number can be found inside the optical bay door:
NOTE: If the computer is an Apple refurbished unit, the serial number will start with "R" or "RM" and the above number ranges cannot be used to to identify a potentially defective logic board.
If you live on the West Coast of the United States, there is a shop in Eugene, OR, that used to offered an affordable LB repair that corrects the issue, If you're not close to Oregon, the cost of shipping a 50-pound computer can double the cost of the repair.
So, basically, the first thing is to see if this condition exists before investing more time (or money).

  • Wifi concerns replacing eMac with new mac mini

I have an eMac (PPC) which is currently maxed out at 10.5.8.  I was thinking of upgrading to a mac mini.  My only concern is that I currently have an old mac mini (late 2006) and it's ability to use wifi with its internal airport interface is severely limited.  The only placment I have found this mac mini to reliably work in is if the mac mini and the wifi router (belkin) are located in the same room.  The eMac I'm thinking about replacing is on a different floor than the router it's airport interface just works, as do all of our laptops.  I understand that some the wifi problems with this mac mini might have to do with the antenna placement in its chassis.  So my question is has Apple improved the reliability of the airport interface in the mac mini ?

The router is really NOT the issue as far as I can tell.  Laptops situated right next to the mac mini have no problem getting and maintaining a connection.  The eMac with a much older airport card and situated on the same floor as the mac mini, maintains its connection as well.  The late 2006 mac mini initially starts off with a good connection but within 10-20 minutes after startup, the connection goes bad, and won't return no matter how many times one reboots.  If I shutdown the mac mini and restart it after an hour or so, the connection becomes solid again for about 10-20 minutes.  Interestingly, when the mac mini is in the same room as the router, the connection starts out solid and stays solid.
My concern, from what I can tell, is that the basic chassis design of the new mac minis don't appear to be that much different in concept than my late 2006 mac mini, except for missing the CD R/W drive and being more compact.  Is there an inherent design flaw in the mac mini (older and current versions) that degrades wifi connectivity in cases where the mac mini is not within line of site of the router?

  • HT1338 i have apps to be updated but when i try to update them a message pops out saying "You have updates for other accounts, please sigh in with the other id". Can some one help me how can i still update the same with the new apple id ive created.

i have apps to be updated but when i try to update them a message pops out saying "You have updates for other accounts, please sigh in with the other id". Can some one help me how can i still update the same with the new apple id ive created. As i dont have the access to the earlier id anymore.

You cannot. The apps are assigned to that Apple ID and there is nothing you can do to change that. You could choose to download them again with the new Apple ID, any paid apps will need to be purchased again.
    Hope that helps.

  • Is it ok to leave my old photos in Aperature and start with new photos in Lightroom?  MacPro with 2 x 2.26 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor, 6 GB memory, 1 TB harddrive.

Is it ok to leave my old photos in Aperature and start with new photos in Lightroom?  MacPro with 2 x 2.26 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor, 6 GB memory, 1 TB harddrive?
Or should I transfer them to Lightroom?

That's really a personal preference. Support for Aperture is coming to an
end and you may find yourself unable to get to theses photos in the future
in the case of a HDD crash if you can't get the software to reinstall.
Faced with that prospect, I would probably put it on my list of things to
do when I am feeling really bored and looking for something to amuse myself
with. You can export your Aperture photos in their original format to a
folder on your desktop and then import them into Lightroom. Use the copy
option on the import to save the photos in a new folder within your
    Lightroom catalog.
