ICal event times are incorrect when importing to iPhone.
For some reason, although iPhone imports events from iCal, the times for the events are incorrect! This is extremely problematic. Any suggestions on a fix? i am using Leopard 10.5.1, MacPro, and have the 8GB version of the iPhone.
you may want to check your time settings on your macpro first: system preference>date&time>time zone... make sure you have the right time zone and city, then in system preference>date&time>date&time... check "set date & time automatically".
then in ical: ical>preferences>advanced, make sure you have "Turn on time zone support" selected.
finally on the iphone: settings>general>date&time, make sure you have time zone support selected and the right time zone/city.
hope this helps.

ICal event times changed when my mac updated time to daylight saving time
When my mac updated its time automatically to daylight saving time, the timed events in iCal all had an hour added to them. Time zone support is off in iCal. I tried changing my time zone from the system preferences (just to see what happens) and the iCal times also change. Is there any way to turn off this ridiculous and useless (to me) feature? I travel quite a bit and all iCal events are always added in local time scheduling. So there is no need for the event times to change when I change time zone!
Thanks!I am having the same problem but it's only some of the appointments that were changed. I think some were entered after the update and perhaps those weren't changed. Very confusing.

when i sync my ipad and imac on ical the times are different yet the time zones are the same, any ideas why?
Under the summary tab in iTunes make sure you have Automatically Back Up This computer. If you have iCloud selected it won't back up when syncing.

PICTURES ARE FUZZY WHEN IMPORTED TO DVD DISC
I'm new to creating dvds. Pictures are fuzzy when imported to dvd disc ( memorex DVD-R). What am i doing wrong?
Hi
Hard to say as You don't suply any info on
• What photo file format, size You use
• How You go from photo to iDVD
And ! - Please do not Yell ! - Capitalized letters = Yelling in most forums and here a low and polite conversation most often will get better and more rapid results.
Some thoughts about DVD Quality
• DVD can only be SD-Video what ever tool used to encode it. And that is much less than what Your Mac screen can show.
• Tools used to create the SlideShow - give a very different (quality) result
iMovie'08 to 11 - discard every second line = less resolution
iMovie HD6 and FinalCut - full interlaced video over to iDVD (as good as it can be)
FotoMagico™ _ Great and even more so if result is burned as a Blu-Ray Disk
Some notes follows - if You are of interest.
DVD quality
1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1)
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
• Professional Quality (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST
• Best Performances (movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
• High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
About double on DL DVDs.
2. Video from
• FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
• iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
• iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09 this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application.
4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
iDVD quality also depends on.
• DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-layer.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
_ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
• HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
• How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
• Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
• Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
• What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
• What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
• What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
• How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)

ICal sync issues (times are incorrect)
Hi guys
I am having some strange issues with iCal at the moment. As you can see below when I send out invities people are receiving two seperate times in the body of the email, and in the ics attachement.
I have done some browsing and can confirm the following:
1/ All my calendars (iCloud, iCal) are set to Singapore timezone as well as having Time Zone support ON
2/ My iPhone is set to Time Zone support on and to Singapore time
Screenshot of the email attached.
Any help or suggestions are much appreciated.you may want to check your time settings on your macpro first: system preference>date&time>time zone... make sure you have the right time zone and city, then in system preference>date&time>date&time... check "set date & time automatically".
then in ical: ical>preferences>advanced, make sure you have "Turn on time zone support" selected.
finally on the iphone: settings>general>date&time, make sure you have time zone support selected and the right time zone/city.
hope this helps. -
IPhoto 11 Faces and Dates are incorrect when synced to iPad/iPod
iPhoto 11, "Faces" and file creation dates appear to work perfectly when viewed within iPhoto 11 on my MacBook Pro. However, a few dozen Faces and creation dates appear incorrectly and out of chronological sequence when viewed on my iPad or iPod. I have rebuilt my iPhoto 11 library several times and re-synced to the iPad/iPod, but the problem persists. Anyone having the same issue or happen to know of a solution? Thanks in advance.
iPhoto Version 9.5.1 (902.17)
It was moved to the library by being imported from an NTFS external hard drive, which has now been reformatted to Mac OS Extended (Case Sensitive, Journaled), the iPhoto library was originally located on the built in SSD drive, but is now located on an external hard drive, due to capacity limitations.
I am seeing the incorrect face orientations when I view the faces in the faces view of iPhoto, when I go onto a person, some are incorrect orientation.
But when I click on the files, they are correct.

They are also incorrect using photo screen savers.
(These images are for demo purposes only, and the issue is not limited to the photos shown). -
Since upgrading to Lion, iCal event invitations are not working well.
Since upgrading to Lion last week, I am having problems with sending iCal event invitations to large groups of people (say 10 people or more). Although my iMac, iPhone, and iPad iCals show that invitations have been sent, only a few of those invited have actually received event invite emails.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, any insight into the problem or solution?
Thanks in advance.Nathan Miah wrote:

If you want.
or maybe install Snow Leopard using the disc it came on with my Mac and just set it up from a Time Machine Backup on my external hard drive (since it works under SL)?
Did you install Lion on an empty partition, or did you upgrade Snow Leopard? If you upgraded, I'd not recommend erasing it, since your backups are apparently gone. It's doubtful Snow Leopard will recognize them.
It's not just backups on the drive either, there are other important things on there, so why won't they show?
Mixing Time Machine backups and other data is not a good idea. See #3 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. It sounds like the whole disk is corrupted.
I just really don't understand how this happened. Could it not be an issue with WD because they haven't issued firmware to support Lion yet?
If this is a simple external HD, connected by USB or FireWire, no, unless you installed some of WD's software on it. That shouldn't prevent it from being seen at all, but anything's possible. -
ICal events that are visible in Week/Month views but not day view!
I manage our iCal services for 10 users via iCal server. Everyone has their own calendar and then delegates read/write access as appropriate. In what seems to be a very random and not very reproducible problem we have a few events that are visible from week view and month view, but the event doesn't show up in day view. This is a huge problem when scheduling if we don't see other events in day view and it's a real pain to have to switch views to double check.
Anyone else have this problem?
Anyone know the specifics that cause it, so I can prevent it?
Any fix for said issue?
Thanks! If they are in photos view then they are in an event unless you have a corrupted library
How are you"merging" the photos?
most common issue is either bad sort (view menu ==> sort events) or bad camera dates
select one and show event to see the event
LN -
Maybe this has been answered but I couldn't find anything on a search...
so my iCal on my computer and my iPhone iCal aren't syncing event times correctly. For instance I'll have an event on computer iCal at say, Friday 1pm but on iPhone iCal it says 6pm. All of the events have the wrong times on the iPhone.
I've reset my iSync history and that did not fix the problem. I've "Replaced information on this iPhone" and that didn't work either. Currently I sync my Entourage calendar to iCal and that works fine. But again when I then sync iCal to my iPhone it screws up all of the dates.
Any ideas why?figured it out. it was a time zone syncing problem.

I had some problems with my MacbookPro and did some clean up and further back-up (time machine already in place for a long time). Now, suddenly I can't access my pictures anymore through iphoto asking me for a library (never asked for before) and I have no clue where the pictures are actually saved when imported in iphoto. Can anyone help me recover my pictures, such as telling me WHERE the pictures are actually stored? Thank you so much!
I had some problems with my MacbookPro and did some clean up
A critical question - exactly what "clean up" did you do and how?
Do you have an iPhoto library in yoru pictures folder? If you depress and hold the option key and launch iPhoto - what do you see in the select library window? Select each library there and see what you have

RAW photos are purple when imported
Aperture has just added RAW support for my Olympus E-M1. I took several photos in JPG+RAW. When importing them to Aperture the JPGs were fine but some, not all, of the RAW images became purple. Is this an Aperture problem, an SD card problem, or camera problem? Someone told me to reformat my SD cards because I had been using them on my Nikon camera, so I did. Could this be the problem? Also, when I put the SD card in my MacBookPro again, it showed up in Finder but not in the Import menu. Could this also be related to not reformatting the card before taking RAW photos? I haven't had the problem with JPGs with this camera.
Thank you for any help. There a a number of different issues at play.
This is the embedded preview extracted using Exiftools. The preview is 3200 x 2400 which is 4 x 3. (I resized it here upload speed).
However, the embedded preview when seen in Aperture, is squashed into a 3 x 2 format image:
When the raw is loaded, this is what is seen.
As well as the purple issue, the file is cropped at the top and bottom and stretched back to 4 x 3 format. Very weird!
Aperture is mis-interpreting the files data, especially the blue channel which is all hunched into the image midtones.
If you add a curves adjustment and use auto (the coloured version) it will get the image a bit closer, I then tweaked the curves (and also used WB and Levels) to get the image closer:
However, obviously, the image is still cropped.
Here are the curves for each of the RGB channels. I added a second curve, to tweak the blue becuse it was hard to work with with the data all hunched up.
You don't need to be concerned about your raws. I checked them in RawTherapee and they seem fine and corruption-free.
I'm convinced this is an Aperture issue, where one of the settings is confusing Aperture (look for a common theme in the affected images, did you choose to shoot in 3 x 2, is it just the long exposure ones, etc).
When Apple releases a fix, your images should return to normal.
In the mean time, you can use Exiftool to extract the embedded previews to have 3200 x 2400 jpegs to play with, or use an alternative convert to create TIFFs for using in Aperture.

I moved across the country. My iCal event times fell back 3 hours.
So, I moved from the East Coast the West Coast. Now all my recurring events and items created on the east coast (while out there) are appearing as 3 hours earlier on my iCal and iPhone. Example:
Original event time: 1 pm (created on east coast)
Event time in iCal now: 10 am (3 hours earlier)
DESIRED time in iCal: 1 pm
Is there a way to do this automatically without having to go into each event and change manually? Thanks in advance!
TYes, go to your settings and under Advanced, turn off Time Zone support.

Google calendar event times are shown as -1h
Summary:
When I create a new event in the built in WP8 calendar app to a Google calendar the time of the event is being displayed as one hour earlier.
Steps to reproduce:
Create a new event in calendar. Choose one of the Google calendars configured (I have two configured in my phone). Set time as 2013/07/17 16:00. Save the event.
Expected behavior:
The event time in the agenda view is shown as 2013/07/17 16:00.
Observed behavior:
The event time in the agenda view is shown as 2013/07/17 16:00 for a few seconds. It then automatically changes to 2013/07/17 15:00.
Other notes:
I have two Google calendars configured. I can observe the same misbehavior on both.
I also have a Microsoft (@hotmail.com) calendar configured. This works as expected.
When I log into my Google calendar using a web browser, the time is shown as expected.
When I use a third party calendar (Chronos) and sync my Google account directly, the time is shown as expected.
When I use a third party calendar (Chronos) and use it simply as an interface to the built in WP calendar the time is off again showing 2013/07/17 15:00.
The timezone on my WP is set to (UTC) London.
I started noticing this perhaps a week ago. It was working as expected before.
Phone model is Nokia Lumia 925
Phone OS version is 8.0.10327.77
Notes 1-6 suggests to me that the internal calendaring module in WP8 fails to recognize DST (daylight saving time) in timezone (UTC) London or misinterprets relevant information fields on Google calendar objects.
Note 7 suggests to me that this is related to an update to my WP8 phone or a change in Google calendar API.
Any help is much appreciated, this is driving me rather nuts.
Thanks,
KaarelFurther investigation reveals this only happens when the event is created from within WP native calendar app and disappears when I make an edit to the event in any other calendar client including Google web. So a more appropriate description of the problem would be:
"Native calendar app keeps subtracting 1h off a Google calendar event on EVERY edit"
Create an event at 2013/07/17 15:00 in WP native calendar app. Result: Event shows as 2013/07/17 15:00 in the calendar app for a few seconds, then updates itself to 2013/07/17 14:00.
Edit the event title and save in WP native calendar app. Event time moves by -1h again to 2013/07/17 13:00.
Edit the event title in Google web calendar.
Subsequent edits in WP native calendar do not mess up the time any longer. If I fix the time to what I originally intended (2013/07/17 15:00) in WP native calendar app, it stays there and shows correctly in all previously mentioned calendar viewers.
I just learned that Lumia 925 was released with GDR2 update pre-installed. This update is only now being made generally available. If the issue is secific to the CalDAV implementation in GDR2 rather than specific to my phone only, this would make a lot of angry people. I hope I'm wrong on this though as it's an extremely frustrating problem. -
ICal advance dates and events (in 1 day) when I turn iPhone
Hi, Guys,
It's not such a huge problem, but I would like to have your help if some of you already had the same problem.
When I use iCal with my iPhone standed up it works perfeclty. But when I turn it (when I use it liyed down) to see the week calendar, the calendar of iCal avance in 1 day and all my iCal events also advance in one day.
For example, today is february 27, Monday.
With my iPhone standed up I see the right date (picture below):
But when its layed down I see that today's date is 26, Sunday (picture below):
Thanks in advance.
I know that it's not such a big problem, but I use iCal to much.
Hope you may help me.Hello hirenlad20,
