Hi Tim,
Thanks for the hint. i ran a changeip command (changeip 172.16.1.250 172.16.1.250), it successfully changed it for ichat and a couple of other services, should of got the screenshot of it but i didn't
it's still coming up with this when i restart the service
at this stage i have push notification stopped
It looks like it starts fine, but the issue re-appears when i try to connect clients to it.
I am logging in with [email protected] with the correct password, i have also tried longname@[email protected]
I have also turned ipv6 off as we don't use it here, it was set to auto on the server.

  • Can I make ichat automatically login to a status other than 'available' ?

I really want iChat to login to either 'invisible' or 'at work' when I launch it from the dock, is this possible?
Sorry if this is a common question; I tried to search but the terms are all very common and I didn't see an answer.
    Thanks

In the iChat Preferences > General section deselect the choice to set the Status at Login to Available.
Set Invisible before you Quit iChat or Shut the computer down.

  • IChat refuses to work after 10.4.3 upgrade

I used to be able to voice chat with my brother who's running 10.2.8 on iChat v 2.0. I was never able to successfully invite him but he was always able to invite me to a voice chat. However, after the update, I can neither accept nor invite him to a voice chat. Both ends say xxx did not respond.
    Please help!

Hi All - reporting back. I've run a number of iChat video test sessions since my last post.
First, I allowed Software Update to download and install the Airport updater released Nov 1st. This is despite not having Airport cards on my Quicksilver, but 'on principle' because one never knows what the potential is underneath our pretty GUI for interactions . . . whether this is significant I can't say.
Second, I disabled iChat encryption. Two 'buddies', one without encryption (with an AIM account), one with, were able to establish successful Video chats with me. Similarly, I was able to initiate Video-chats with the encrypted buddy. I wasn't able to try with the unencrypted one, but I'm pretty sure it would have been OK.
Third, I re-enabled encryption, and was able to test with the encrypted buddy and another who had 'encryption' enabled. Somewhat to my surprise they were both able to initiate video-chats with me, and I was with them. One has an 833MHz iBook (on cable via a DHCP Ethernet D-Link to the cable modem) the other has a dual G5 and University bandwidth of unmentionable capability (drool) sending to me at 500 to 650 kbps and with a frame rate of over 20 fps.
So - all ye of fittle faith - iChat 3.1 (v417) with Tiger 10.4.3 (8F46) can work! However, all my buddies were on this, as am I.
NB: have only the one port opened at the server (login.oscar.aol.com) port 5190; and have unbound the SIP binding from the NAT settings on port 5060 in my Alcatel 510 v4 dsl router, by a Telnet session to it from Terminal. Yesterday I had reverted to the default 'bound' settings, but that clobbered iChat video completely - so it's unbound again.
    Hope this helps.

  • E1200 refuses login attempts

I changed the check mark from HTTP: to HTTPS: in my E1200 setup for administration access [ at least I think this is what caused it; I didn't change anything else] and now my subsequent attempts to login into the router get a "website unavailable" the error message says "....connection refused".
Router, network, internet  seem to be working fine.
How can I get back access to the router software?
    Thanks,

  • Perfect Connection to the Web, but iChat Refuses to Sign On! Help!

    Hello All.
I have a brand new MacBook Pro 17". I'm pretty tech savy, but can't figure this out. Since I upraded to Lion, nmy iChat won't sign in. I'm connected successfully to the web, and otherwise everything is perfect. But when I add my account to iChat. Enable it. And Ask it to sign on, from both the buddy list and the Toolbar- nothing. I'm certain both my login and password are correct. It just won't change off "Offline". Help?

    Hi,
In System Preferences > Security > Firewall is the Firewall ON ?
If it is have you been to the Advanced Button and checked  Allow Signed Apps is enabled ?
If so is iChat in the list of Allowed app ?
The Next step would be to check iChat is allowed through your Router.
Web Browsing and Mail apps use ports below port 1024. Ports below this figure are almost always open for any computer (or Wifi able Phone) that is connected.
iChat normally logs in to AIM on port 5190 which is above this threshold.

AS you can see there are lots of them with N in the name in this list http://portforward.com/routers.htm
Most will do UPnP which will allow multiple computers to use the same ports and get around some NAT Issues.
If your device is in the List then click on it.
Click iChat in the next page's list.
The page that takes you to will tell you the default IP Address and User ID and Password to use in a Web browser.
    *Read ON*
The page will then go on to tell you how to Do Port Forwarding *YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS*
You need to go to Administration and enable UPnP.
Most Likely it will look like this
You will also need to go the security page and Disable the item about Blocking Responses to Internet Pings
The Last pic is from Portforward.com
*Please Note* the Firewall is also OFF

  • Ichat multiple login problems

whenever i start my ichat, it logs in 4 or five times and then a window pops up saying something about how i logged in to many times in one period of time and to try again later. this happens every time i start it. can anybody help me?

    Hi
Try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
    Set the port to 443.
    Log back in again.

  • IChat refuses "spaces" since Tiger upgrade

Since I upgraded to Tiger, I can iChat with people, but only if I don't include any spaces in the body of the message. Once I hit the space bar, it says "iChat Internal Error!" and a lot other rigamarole.

I am following this series of messages with interest since the same problem has just cropped up in my world as well. My error message reads:
    NSInternalInconsistencyException:
    Invalid parameter not satisfying: (index >= 0) && (index < (_itemArray ?
    CFArrayGetCount((CFArrayRef)_itemArray) : 0))
It's not only spacebar depressions, but many of the other punctuation keys that result in the same error (?, comma, !, period, etc.). The problem is maanifested ONLY in iChat AV. Problem arose about 2 days ago - shortly after Software Update to 10.4.3?? Only got this computer about a month ago.
I'll post this then follow the links to the suggested articles above - just wanted to let Vito know that he is not alone! :o)

  • HELP!  iChat refuses to install

    I'm at wit's end.
I was using iChat just fine and dandy yesterday, quit the program when I went home, and now upon launch today, it wants to do an install. I humor it by going thru all the steps in the install windows - it hangs slightly at the "jabber" window, and again at the "bonjour" window. When it gets to the "complete" window, however, I click "done" and it goes into an incessant hang (spinning beach ball) requiring a force quit, or the installer just randomly shuts down on it's own.
I've searched various forums, and have repaired permissions, trashed the plist and preferences, used Pacifist to reinstall from the Tiger disk...nothing seems to work.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Scott,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Pages.
When iChat starts it checks for the .plists for the application.
If it can not find them it preumes that this is a first run time and sends you through the Start up screens.
Go to Users/(your Account)/Library/Preferences and see if the 5 .plists are there (all start com.apple.ichat....)
If they are there, is your home folder in the same place on your hadrdrive or did you move your Home folder ?
If the Home folder has not been moved try deleting all the com.apple.ichat...plists
If you can not get through the Start up sreens then, try resarting iChat and just click through the screens with entering data (you can set the accounts up later)
If that fails copy and paste the bold text line into the Terminal Application and hit enter.
    /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7
This will make the Terminal application startup iChat
To stop use the Quit item in the Terminal menu and say yes to running all the items that are listed.
IF the error has Broken pipe at the end go here:
    Ryan M., "How do I reinstall iChatAV 3.x?", 06:19pm May 9, 2005 CDT
Also check that the Address Book is showing your Details at the Me Card entry (the one with the Head and Shoulders icon)

  • [SOLVED] Succeeded with /usr/lib thingy, but KDE now refuses login

    Hi all,
I finally managed to upgrade my system by following the steps as written in the wiki. Then I rebooted.
Now, when I enter user name and password as prompted by the KDE login then always a dialog pops up saying "System is booting up!". Clicking the OK button brings me back to the login. That's it, I'm locked out.
I wanted to look at the output of dmesg, but unfortunately I can't open a conole other then CTRL-ALT-F1 and pressing CTRL-C there is w/o any effect.
Any idea how to get at my system again?
    Cheers

Strange, seems that rc.local has to be empty now? Had a call to conky in there. After deleting it and rebooting, I could again log into my KDE desktop.
As on my acer no consoles are provieded I had to somehow boot into single user mode. Here is how I did it: http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/grub-boot- … user-mode/.

  • IChat refuses to set up and crashes iSight

My iChat started to mess with iSight initally. The camera would enabled but constantly turn on and off. If I unplugged it, it would reset sometimes. Finally iChat started to freeze with the camera.
I've tried to reinstall iChat a couple of different ways including using tools to clear out system caches but to no avail. When I drag and trash the iChat app, Isight works fine with Quicktime broadcaster and other video software. As soon as I reinstall iChat, it goes back to the grind and pause mode.
iChat itself will not complete the setup. I get to the last page saying I'm done and after a few minutes, iChat says it quit unexepectly and thats it. I do not always get to this page, sometimes it hangs at the Bonjour screen and sometimes at the video screen. This happens without or with the camera attached.
    Ideas?
    MikeS

    Hi
When you re-installed iChat did you run the combo to
    get iChat up to 3.1.1.
    10.4.5 Combo here

    Tony-
Your suggestion worked so long as I had put the original iChat files back on the system. I had removed them to use the iSight camera with another app. But success in getting iChat work again. Now all I need to do is figure out why the iSight camera wont work with it.
    Thanks

  • ICal Refuses Login

I have Server 10.6.4 and applied the most recent security update and since then OD users cannot view their iCal accounts.
OD seems to be working, AddressBook can look up their info, they can log in using AFP, etc. Everything except iCal. This was working well up until two weeks ago and now things are getting very frustrating in not being able to access all the shared calendars!
In Server Admin, Calendar is running. Authentication is "Any Method", SSL is Redirect and the certificate is in existence and seems to be working for iMap SSL
If iCal is on a client and tries to update it claims "Server did not recognize your user name or password for account " XXXX". XXX is the name I gave to the account in iCal when I setup the accounts. In iCal I have XXXX, user name and password that work for AFP for example and the server address DNS name, path that has been working until now "/principals/uids/YYYYYYYY-YYYY-YYYY-YYYY-YYYYYYYYYYYY/", port 8443 and "Use SSL" is checked.
The server is a standalone OD server. ldapsearch seems to be able to access it.
    What am I missing?

Still responds that the server does not recognize my account or password. It does not ask me for a new password. So I am guessing that the server does not recognize my OD credentials as an account.
In one of these upgrades has the URL for this changed from uids to users/<user name>? In searching the forums it was suggested that I go to https://mycalendar.server.edu:8443/calendars/users/
and look for user accounts. The web server has no access to this page. The parent page of calendars loads but not any of the pages further down that are only accessible by the _calendar user and _calendar group.
Further there is an article on delegating access to resources and locations, but this gives unknown items when I try it.

  • Ichat won't accept or send file transfers/freezes

I am running OS X 10.7.5 on my computer here at work, the same as everyone else here.  We all use ichat, and we often use file transfers.  For the past year or so, if I try to accept a file transfer, ichat freezes.  Recently (within the past 2 weeks), even sending images (which used to be fine) causes ichat to freeze, and the image isn't sent.  Occasionally it works, but usually not.  Larger files never send.
When I go to Window>File Transfers, loading this windows also causes iChat to freeze, and I have to restart.  If I restart after doing this, ichat refuses to load, immediately freezing (because it is trying to load that file transfer window), and I end up having to delete the com.apple.iChat.plist file from my preferences in order to get ichat to open at all.
I have googled this issue a lot but have never found a solution.  Please help!

    Hi,
You List Lion (OS X 10.7.x) so that mean iChat 6.
Which service are you using ?
Bonjour, AIM or Jabber to do this ?
The AIM account, if you have one, will login to the server on port 443.
However to send Pics-in-Chats or Files then it changes to using port 5190.
It would be unusual for one computer on the LAN network to be blocked for this port.
It is possible to block it on a Mac.
In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to Folder and type /etc as the name of the folder.
This will open the etc folder (which is in Hard Drive Name/Private and is normally hidden)
Navigate to the Hosts files and Open With TextEdit.
It should read like this if unaltered
It would normally be used to block Servers (IP addresses) rather than specific Ports
If it is the Bonjour account try deleting the com.apple.iChat.Subnet.plist  (it is in the same folder as the com.apple.ichat.plist one is).
