ICloud email sync question

Hello,
I am a bit confused about iCloud email functionality.  I was under the impression that iCloud was supposed to keep it's mailbox on all of your devices synchronized.  So if I'm on the iCloud Web page and look at my inbox there, read a message and delete it, should it not also be automatically deleted from the iCloud inbox on my iPhone?  This is not happening, the message still remains visible in my iPhone's inbox folder.
If the message should have also been deleted from my iPhone perhaps I set something up incorrectly?  If not, then what is the advantage of iCloud email vs Gmail?
Many thanks.
NM

i'm punting until next week. i think they have a lot of bugs to work out. i've never seen the community support pages humming like this. everyone is having a sync problem of one sort or another. hate to get all zen on you, but i'd say, don't worry about it for about a week.
I'm starting to think that Mobile Me was their finest hour ...

  • ICloud email sync - images not showing

I have email synced through iCloud on my Macmini and MBP. Images in emails show fine on my Mini, but not on my MBP. I've checked my mail preferences on my MBP but these appear to be fine. There appears to be no differences in my mail settings on both machines so I am wondering if there is an iCloud setting I am missing - has anyone come across this?

    Hi SPSAdminTC,
According to your description, my understanding is that when you open the email in the phone, the image in the mail body didn't show up correctly.
As you can access the images in browse, the issue seems more related to the outlook client.
I suggest you can try to open another mail which includes pictures to check whether it works correctly.

  • ICloud email sync

I am using iCloud email, but they are not syncing between devices. After an email downloads to my iPhone5, it doesn't download to my PC. I am using Windows 7 and Microsoft Outlook. Is there a setting I am missing?

Hi there. It is @icloud.com only, not @me.com.
Feeling a bit frustrated because I can't get my emails on my PC.

  • ICloud contacts sync questions

Since I got an iPhone and followed the advice of the salesman at the Apple store, essentially to "Turn everything on" in iCloud, things have gotten hopelessly confused.
Both Address Book and Calendar now have seperate, (almost) duplicate sets of entries, titled "On my Mac" and "ICloud".   Making an entry in one place does not necessarily mean that it will show up in the other.
I want to keep a local copy of everything on all my devices, and I want them all to be the same.
I want to have a way to compare both lists and see what differences there are so I can reconcile them.
I have never had this problem with my old Android phone and my Google account!
Please, someone explain how "On my Mac" and "Icloud" interact and how I can get them properly synchronized.  I'm afraid to do anything at this point for fear of losing all my information!
    TIA
    Walt

Only data listed under 'iCloud' can sync - in fact it isn't actually syncing as such, because the data lives on the server and is read from there by your Mac and devices.
Data listed under 'On My Mac' is, as it says, on your Mac and is not connected to iCloud: therefore this data cannot be seen on the iCloud website or on other devices signed into iCloud.
The intention is that all your data should be kept on iCloud in order to facilitate syncin, and that you should not keep data listed under 'On My Mac'.

  • ICloud email sync problem on mac os x mavericks

    Hi,
I have a serious problem with my iCloud email on my mac. I have been using iCloud email for few years now and I never had this problem. But I am having the problem after upgrading my iMac to latest mac os x mavericks 10.9.3 couple of months back.
The problem is, when someone sends me an email, it comes to my iCloud mail immediately with no issues. That means if I login to my iCloud mail through a web browser, I see the email there. But that email may not appear to my iMac mailbox. Occasionally some emails arrive but some not. Some emails come lately some not at all.
So the mailbox on my mac is totally unusable because I am sure not all emails are seen there, so I have to keep logging into mail through browser to check if there is a new email.
I am using me.com email address.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Email syncing question

I have recently switched to only the iphone for retrieving/reading my email. Thus, as is normal practice, I leave some in the inbox indefinitely if it is not yet dealt with or is a reminder I need. During backup/sync, does the iphone backup the messages in the inbox, or is this expected to also be in Outlook (with which it syncs calendar/contacts but no longer gets email on my PC)

I don't think e-mail is synced at all. It is retrieved from the server like any other mail application.
Here is an article found by searching Apple support.
"You can use iTunes to sync content on your computer (such as music, podcasts, videos, ringtones1, photos, email account settings, contacts, calendars, and bookmarks) with your iPhone or iPod touch2. Syncing makes sure this content is the same on your iPhone or iPod touch and computer. iTunes will also create a backup of settings and certain other information on your iPhone or iPod touch when you sync to use in case you want to restore the software on your iPhone or iPod touch or transfer this information to a different device. Backup information includes information such as mail settings, text messages, notes, call history, contact favorites, sound settings, widget settings, certain network settings, and other preferences. Applications purchased from the App Store are included in the backup, however they can only be successfully restored to the same device that they were backed up from."

  • HT1338 iCloud email update question

I am running OS X 10.5.8 and have a mobileme account.  DO I have to purchase the 10.6 upgrade for $29 then spend $400 more to get to Lion to move over to iCloud?

Hello, not for eMail you don't.
I think they're slowly nudging people to switch, .mac & MobileMe are going away about June/July, may as well set it up now.
Do not delete the old account yet.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 993
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
    • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 587
    • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password

  • ITunes / iCloud / iPod Sync question

Since moving my iTunes library to iCloud, only my purchased music syncs to my iPod classic.  The music from CDs loaded years ago do not sync.  Any clues on what setting(s) I need to look at?

If you sync your iPod automatically, then yes, the next time you sync to that empty library, your iPod will come up empty. It's not a good idea to use the iPod as a storage device. Eventually, you'll probably have to Restore it, and a Restore will wipe the contents. You'll need the library on your computer to resync the songs.
Why not invest in an external hard drive. They're not too expensive. Also...what file type are your songs. Some types eat up a lot more memory than others.

  • Basic question: will email sync with icloud?

    will my email sync?
I don't understand what it means when it tell me that when you switch to icloud your mail accounts won't sync.  Please explain?

    Yes it will Linda,
When .mac/mobile Me gets moved (when you make the choice to do so) to the new iCloud servers, your mail will be as you expect.
Mobile Me & .Mac used to synch mail 'account info' and/or mail 'rules' but it never synched the actual e-Mail itself. These two settings now are not explicitly backed up to iCloud like they used to be.
You lose no mail or accounts, but you do not have the ability to re-synch a new Mac or a re-built Mac on the same account on the way that you used to be able to do. However, you probably will never need to because iCloud is now the master computer for mail operations—so to speak. And when you register a new computer or iDevice on iCloud mail will come along with it if you so choose.

  • Can Multiple email accounts on Galaxy S4 sync with iCloud & non-iCloud email?

Hello… has anyone successfully set up multiple email accounts (iCloud/Yahoo/AT&T/etc.) on their Samsung Galaxy S4 Jelly Bean 4.2? I searched the forums and it has been said that configuration settings depend on the combination of wireless service provider + device model + email providers + Android version.
My S4 is from AT&T and if this scenario can't work, I have to cancel my contract in a few days (although that would be the last resort). From checking the forums, not everyone has been able to get the S4 to work with iCloud. In my case, I hope to sync up with iCloud and non-iCloud email which might be trickier.
Here is one thread that helps with settings, but doesn't seem to address multiple or non-iCloud accounts: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22435596#22435596
    Some background info…
Although Gmail just works on Android devices, I plan to primarily use Apple/Yahoo/AT&T email (at least initially).
I don’t yet have Apple mail/iCloud, but plan to. I am partially switched to the Mac (Mtn Lion), but haven’t completed the jump from Windows.
I don’t have an iPhone (so hopefully that makes the setup less complicated.)
I mostly care about email on the S4 (I’m not concerned about syncing up contacts, calendar, music, etc.).
Apologies for the long post, but hopefully I’ve included the necessary background info for the questions below:
Is it possible to setup multiple (iCloud/Yahoo/AT&T) emails on the Samsung Galaxy S4 from AT&T so that they sync nicely?
From the S4, if I reply to an email, will the Sender in the email reply be the same account which received the email? Or, (as I’ve read in the excerpt below) will the Sender for all email replies from the S4 be set from a fixed/primary account?
Although the first two questions above are the most urgent for now, I'd appreciate pointers if you see something that should be changed in the configuration settings below.
    Thanks in advance!

After spending quite some time trying to get my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II setup with iCloud mail, this is what finally worked. Thanks to everyone for the various bits that helped lead me in the right direction. For those who need lots of detail, I hope the below helps. Please don't ask me about any other specific Android phones as I'm not expert but thought someone out there could benefit from my experience.
    INCOMING SERVER SETTINGS
User Name: username (do not enter @me,com or @mac.com)
    Password: (enter your password)
    IMAP server: imap.mail.me.com
    Security type: SSL
    Port: 993
IMAP path prefix: p##- (you can find this by checking your account settings on your Mac. Mine was p03- so that's what I entered here)
    Press NEXT
    OUTGOING SERVER SETTINGS
    SMTP server: smtp.mail.me.com
    Security type: TLS
    Port: 587
check the box next to "Require sign-in" if it's not already checked
User name: username  (do not enter @me.com or @mac.com)
    Password (enter your password)
    Press NEXT
Your phone will check the server settings and you should be able to see your email now.
And another poster provided these additional tips…
Definitely select SSL/TLS and accept all certificates
Now here's the zinger: Authentication should be LOGIN
After figuring this out, I finally (after many hours of searching and testing) got to my outgoing server settings, which are: smtp.me.com
    NONE for security type
    Tic "Require Sign-in"
    Authentication is PLAIN
And another poster's question about the Sender's email address for multiple accounts…
Managed to get this all set up however, Android only seems to allow you to send from your primary address and only reply from your primary address even if a mail was sent to one of the other addresses.
Any ideas how to get around this as I have three addresses beneath my primary which I need to both send from and reply from.

You're unlikely to find many people with experience of configuring multiple email accounts on a specific Samsung device, here on the Apple forum for an Apple service. Try the Samsung forums for help setting up your Samsung phone.
There are a few posts with general info relating to setting up an iCloud email account on Android here if you search though.

  • ICloud email and Apple ID question

I have an odd problem, heres the background:
I signed up with an iChat account a year ago when I got my new Mac Pro and chose a new sign in with an @mac extension. Then I changed my apple ID to MYNAME@MACdotCOM to reflect my iChat and to streamline all of my Apple ID's, etc. This ID however was never tied into an email account.
Now that iOS 5 and icloud is finally out, I enabled email sync in iCloud and was prompted to creat a new @me username. So I did and used the same name that is on my Apple ID, the only difference is this new address has @me insted of @mac.
iCloud set up on my mac like a breeze and Mail sees the new address and syncs up great.
Now I go to my iPhone 4 with the new iOS 5 and enable all the cloud stuff under my Apple ID and everything syncs great. I go into mail on my iPhone and compose a new message and heres the problem: The "from" address in the new message is showing my Apple ID MYNAME@mac not the one created for iCloud (MYNAME@ME) AND when I try to send the message I get this "The sender address MYNAME@MAC was rejected by the server" . But when using Mail on my Mac, it sends and receives great and doesn't try to use the @mac address, only the @me... same when logged into iCloud.
Now I know that my @mac was never a functional email address, but in iPhone mail it doesn't give me the option to use the @me address, only the @mac one. I assume that Apple is combining the two extensions since I can log onto the Apple site with the ID "MYNAME@ME" in stead of @mac and it logs me in just fine.
My question is how can I get Apple to activate or allow the @mac for email or get iphone mail mail to stop trying to use the @mac? I assume someone at Apple would be able to make that happen via email or phone. Hmmm.
I tried myself to change my Apple ID to @ME but the "edit" option is not available, Apple won't let me change it. I tried both through iTunes and the Apple website.
thanks for reading and any help on the matter is greatly appreciated!

An email alias will act just like you iCloud email address, and it will receive incoming mail at the same inbox. It will be added to your existing iCloud account/ID so you can continue to sign into your account with your current ID.
Your iCloud ID is separate from your iTunes account ID.  You can keep your current iTunes ID and add a second ID for your new iCloud account; they do not need to be the same.  If you want to migrate your data to a new iCloud account, on your device go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account (this only deletes the account from the device, not from iCloud).  When prompted choos Keep on My [iDevice].  Then set up a new account with a different ID and turn your iCloud data syncing back to On, and when prompted, choos Merge to upload the data to your new account.

  • Q10 questions, Auto Cc & iCloud Calendar Sync

    Hello everyone,
I have 2 questions as below:
    1. Auto Cc function is missing.
    2. iCloud Calendar Sync always error.
    my Q10 is under 10.1.0.4181
I'm very appreciate for your support.

1, the AutoCC was a service of your former BIS account, and there is no BIS account now. Instead, if you're using an IMAP email server, you should find the function to autoCC your emails there.
On an IMAP email account, your sent emails should sync to your server anyway. Why do you need the AutoCC?

  • Question about Apple ID/iCloud email/and purchases?

    Hi,
I know that these have been discussed at length, but I want to ask these two question for myself to get a definite answer, Pleas help me!
    1. Does an iCloud email alisas act just as a regular email?  I can send from the new address, recieve email from people mailing to this new address, and sign into my content with this new address just as if it was the original one?
    2. I really want a new iCloud account to start over.  I have had an Apple ID for years before iCloud came out.  If I delete my iCloud account and create a new one, will it be integrated with all my past purchases?  Are the Apple ID and iCloud account sparate?  I want to keep my Apple ID, but be able to sign into it and access my purchased content from my new iCloud account?  Can this be done.
