Icon generation at App Startup

I'm a new Apple Developer doing design work on a few ideas. My questions are:
1. Can an App program read a file "external" to itself (not in the App program itself) and change the number of icons painted on the screen at startup? And if so, can the icon names and pictures be changed by whats in this external file? Here is an example.... I'm looking to design one App that the screen "appears" different for each user of the program. Lets say User 1 wants his screen to show his picture and 5 icons on his screen with info unique to him... User 2 wants 2 icons with his info.... User 3 wants 9 icons with their data displayed. The key here is none of this is "hard coded" in the App programming itself, but held in a user file (maybe a CSV file), that is read at startup and then paints the screens accordingly. Otherwise, I need 3 different apps to complete this idea. I hope this makes sense to some of you out there!! Thanks so much for any input you might have!

Yes, you can provide the the ability for the user to configure how information within your app is displayed. Example: In the Music app, the user can specify which tabs should appear in the tab bar. A CSV file is probably not the best approach. Read the Preferences and Settings Programming Guide.

IPhone iOS 8: Tapping on photo icon in messages app causes app to crash

Issue (?ios 8 bug?): Tapping on photo icon in messages app causes app to crash. Present in ios 8.0, and also still in ios 8.0.2. iPhone 6+ 64GB.
I just wondered if anyone else has been having this problem.
Initially it worked great. Tapping the photo button next to the text box in message should bring up a menu with your latest photos and other sharing options. However, after the first couple of days, tapping the button brought up the menu, the phone freezes, and then after a few seconds the photo app crashes.
Deleting most of my photos restored the function, but after another couple of days (and some more photos) it started happening again so I think perhaps it is related to the number of photos. After about 5-10 photos it loads the menu very slowly and its quite buggy. After 20+ photos it wont load the menu at all without freezing and the app crashing.
My iphone 6+ was set up as a new phone (not restored from back-up).
I hope this is some kind of bug that will be fixed in ios 8.0.3, but wondered if anyone else has the same problem or has any solutions?
My workaround at the moment is just to go the photos app and either copy and paste the photo into a message, or share the photo via the photos app.

I have this same issue with my 128 gb 6 plus. I've tried restoring as new on a few occasions, but to no avail. I did notice while my pc was synchronizing my apps, that the feature worked fine a few times until the synchronization was complete. I seriously hope that the numbers of photos limits one's use of the feature, because i purchased the 128 gb 6 plus so that i could keep photos at my ready.
Has anyone heard of a solution yet?

IPhone 6 Pixelated images on instagram, pinterest and the icons on the app store

Hi!!! I have an iPhone 6, 64GB capacity. All the iOS updates are the latest ones. I'm getting pixelated images on instagram, pinterest and even the icons on the app store, I have tried to turn it of and off but it doesn't seems to work... any idea??.

i'm posting some of the images that are pixelated, I haven't noticed but that includes safari too... Here are some screenshots! I thought maybe it was the internet speed but the same thing happens even on wi-fi .

I have recently upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS 7 and I have lost 3 app icons. The apps still appear in settings, so I can't reinstall the app as they're already there. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling via an iTunes sync, but it hasn't helped.

Have you checked to see if the Apps have been placed in an App folder?
Try swiping down from the middle of the screen so the search bar appears. Type the name of the App and if the App appears it is indeed on your phone.
You could also try restarting your device by holding the power and home button until the Apple logo appears.

HT202159 Problem with Update on It started, then the screen went white and the icons for the apps on the desktop were all blackened, 'waiting'. What now?

It showed a number of apps to be updated on my iPad, so I clicked 'update all' as usual. It started, then the screen went white. The icons for the apps on the desktop went black, as they do, with the first one half way around the little circle timer, and two marked 'waiting', with others not that far into the process. They all stopped. Now I can't stop the update process in the App Store, or use any of the apps. What do I do next? Help, please!

From what I can gather you have a few apps that only display "Waiting". The following is a past discussion that dealt with a similar issue, the answer may help you as well:

Try tapping the App, so that it changes to Paused instead of Waiting, then tap it again to resume the install.
Make sure you don't have any paused downloads in other apps either, like the App Store or iTunes Store.
If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.

Reflection iCon like iPhone Apps

I'm wondering whether Keynote possible to create the icon like iPhone Apps' icons with the Reflection?
How to do that?

Then, yes, you can. The main part of the "reflection" is just a portion of a circle overlaid on the image with a white gradient. If you put that shape over almost any image, you'll get something really close to the look you're going for. I've uploaded a doc to iWork.com that you can deconstruct to see how it's done. How/where did you buy it ? If it's an ibook from Apple then you can only download and read them in the iBooks app on an iPad - if you have the iBooks app on your iPad, and that book doesn't show on the bookshelf in the app, then you should be able to redownload it via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the app.

[Solved] Missing icons in GTK apps?

I'm missing some icons in GTK2 apps. Fbpanel doesn't have any task icons, and Gaim doesn't have buddy icons. There might be more, but those are the ones I've noticed so far....
I just reinstalled Arch using the pacman -r method, so I think I missed some packages.... :oops:
Also, although it doesn't belong here, what package provides the "killall" command? I need that one too...

Fixed it. Pacman -S gdk-pixbuf and all was well. I figured it out after looking at the X log and realizing I was getting pixbuf errors. Doh!

I have filed a bugreport, but I am curious if anybody else has noticed this.
Summary:
Icon that was displaying progress of installation stays on screen next to normal icon and it is impossible to delete it or start the app with it.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Full factory reset of iPhone with iOS 7.0.2
2. Open web page with link for OTA installation.
3. After install is finished there are two icons for the app.
Expected Results:
Icon that was displaying the progress should disappear after installation.
Actual Results:
Icon that was displaying the progress stays on screen is not usable and cannot be deleted.

Configuration:
Server used to serve the page with installation files is "Server" app on MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion.
The same happens if other servers are used; Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

IPhone: is the large icon in iTunes=App store icon?

Does iTunes get the artwork for the large icon in the apps directory from the large 512x512 icon used by the appstore? Or is that from another source, since my Ad Hoc distributions don't display any special icons in iTunes.

The dev guide says about the 512x512 icon:

I'm not sure what exactly "featured" means...
There are at least 5 different images/icons possible for each app in iTunes:
1) small icon just like on device home screen (in NEW or WHAT'S HOT section)
2) slightly bigger icon (when browsing for apps)
3) even larger icon (app's actual page in the store)
4) medium "featured" image (between NEW and WHAT'S HOT sections)
5) large "featured" image (3 at the very top of the app store home)
So the "Icon.png" in your app bundle is definitely what shows on the device home screen. But is the 512x512 icon used for icons 1-3 in the store? Is it also used in any way for 4-5 or do you have to be "special" to even get featured in those ways?

I hate the fact that I found this topic on Google, but after I had to log in to post this reply it took me somewhere else! Again, a site designed by people who must never use their own software. Any site that makes you log in to use a feature should not cast you adrift one you've logged in for the express purpose of using that very feature. It makes me angry before I even start! I am only here now because I have been run through the hoops trying to buy Lion and install it. When I launched the app store, it had a lion's face I had to click on to download. But there was no link to Buy or Download. Eventually after many relaunches I accidentally discovered that if i clicked on £20 it changed into a green Buy - but only if you click directly on it, it you click on the down arrow it invites you to copy a link or to share it with somebody.. Then it made me log in again (what instant amnesia this site has) and I had to re-enter all my credit card info because it would not access an Australian American Express card even though it has a UK billing address. So I went back again, and still got the Lion. I clicked Buy several times but nothing happened. Then out of the blue it changed to Install. I clicked that many many many many many many times. Nothing happened whatsoever. I am going to have to give up for now and try and get through to Apple tomorrow as they shut up shop and there is no sales or tech support. God knows how many times they have charged my credit card for all the times I clicked Buy and nothing appeared to happen, or maybe it did happen and just doesn't tell you.
So far tonight I've done nothing but start and restart AppStore, log in over and over, click the price>Buy and try to click install. and for all this effort so far I have got a big fat zero.
I would have thought by now that Apple would have had some experiene in designing and delivering software over the internet, but my experience tells me that they are complete beginners whe it comes to user-friendly ecommerce. This is some of the laziest web work I've had the misfortune to be annoyed by.
Here's what I think should happen:
Log in once and once only
Click the product you want
Click Buy (a separate button from the price tag)
Once sale approved, click Download
Progress bar appears
Feedback in plain English for any action that cannot be completed for any reason, with that reason spelt out in layman's terms.

Installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.3 (Client Combo) will reinstall the App Store for you.
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed then try purchasing Aperture.
