Icons jar file

Hi All,
We want to use a jar file for caching iconic gif files. We have made the jar file and made adjustments in formsweb.cfg.
When starting the application we see, in the jinitiator console, that our jar file is downloaded to the cache.
So far so good.
But after that we still see all the *.gif files downloaded seperatly:
Opening http://server1:1122/dev60icons/bin.gif
Connecting http://server1:1122/dev60icons/bin.gif with no proxy
Have we overlooked anything?
Please help it is very urgent.
Regards,
Joshua

Subject: How Do you know if Caching in Webforms is Working with f60all.jar?
You need to add the Dcache.verbose=true property to the jinitiator control panel, so that it shows you all the messages, that are hidden without this option set.
Explanation
1. Go to Start-> Programs -> jinitiator control panel <jinit version>. You will see a window called Oracle Jinitiator Properties.
2. Click on the Basic tab, in the jinitiator control panel.
3. There check the enable jinitiator and show java console.
4. See the JAVA RUN TIME PARAMETERS, item. The entries you will see as default -mx64m -Dcache.size=20000000 Here add the following parameter to enable debugging caching mechanism. -mx64m -Dcache.size=20000000 Dcache.verbose=true
Click on Apply button and close the jinitiator control panel. Before running the form, close and restart the browser window for changes to take affect. Now when you run the webform, you will see the following output in java console:
Case 1: jcache working

Note: If it says "cache hit ...", that means that the webform is going to use the local cached jar file.

  • Icons in JAR file did not appear on runing web form

    Hi
    I am testing web application built using Forms6i with path 9. I configured the form server to run as a servlet and I put all the icons used in the application in JAR file I name it ICONS.JAR, I put this file in \FORMS60\JAVA\ directory.
    I made the following configurations:
    In Apache listner configuration file httpd.conf :
    Alias /forms60java/ "D:\orant\forms60\java\/"
    In forms confuguration file formsweb.cfg:
    imageBase=CodeBase
    archive=icons.jar
    serverApp=Default
    in registry.dat file:
    default.icons.iconpath=
    default.icons.iconextension=gif
    In base HTML file:
    <PARAM NAME="imageBase" VALUE="%imageBase%">
    <PARAM NAME="serverApp" VALUE="%serverApp%">
    <PARAM NAME="CODEBASE" VALUE="/forms60java/"
    The forms are run with nao problem except that the icons do not appear. I see java console on the client machine, and I see that ICONS.JAR was downloaded and saved in jar cache.
    In Apache access log file I see that there is an attempt to load the icons from the path <server_name>/forms60java/icon_name.gif but not from the archived JAR file.
    What could be goes wrong or missing?

    Hi Amin,
    Maybe the icons.jar file doesn't contain the files (try opening it with WinZip or some other tool and verify the files are indeed there).
    Maybe some case sensitivity issues are at play?
    Or the GIF files are the wrong size so maybe you're only seeing the transparent upper left corner of alle the icons displayed on your iconic buttons or whatever.
    Just a couple of wild shots (cause it doesn't appear you're having errors - but check all your log files including error_log)

  • How Do I get icons image directory to work in a JAR file?

    Yes, I must admit after going through the tutorial and other stuff I am stiil stumped
    I have an application that uses the jlfgr icons for the toolbar, and it works fine as long as i actually run it from the directory that it is in.
    I would like to put in into a jAr file, and be able to execute it from other places.
    I have a Directory named PhoneBook
    in that are the classes I use
    AddressBook - the main class
    PersonEntry - The 'data class'
    and various other things like FileFilters.....
    inside that directory there are two more:
    images - contains all the icon images
    Data - where the default 'database' entries are stored.
    I use code like this:
         private void fillToolBar( JToolBar bar )
              Dummy = new JButton(new ImageIcon("images/New16.gif"));
              Dummy.setActionCommand("New");
              Dummy.addActionListener(this);
              Dummy.setToolTipText("New");
              bar.add( Dummy );
              // etc etc
    to get all the icons into the toolbar
    I have made a Jar file that has all the classes and all the directorys with the icons in it
    and so the program runs, but does not get the icons for the toolbar, I just get a whole load of 'dud' buttons.....
    AS this is the first time i've ever got the GUI to look right rather than just the code functioning properly
    I'd like to get the whole thing in a working Jar file
    So Could someone show me Step By Step, How I get my classes and images into a Jar file
    so that i can from a different directory go
    java - jar Phone.jar
    and have the GUI come up with all the images, assuming I'm totally thickheaded when it comes to Jar files.?
    I also can't get the images to show up if I merely run the 'program' from another directory than the one it is compiled in
    I can get the program to run, just not access the images with something like
    java -cp blah/blah/blah AddressBook
    {the main class is AddressBook }
    the data directory can be anywhere as I use a JFileChooser to allow the user to open and save desired files.
    I really would appreciate some clear workable help. {though I'm running out of Duke Dollars...}

    What you need is a correct path to the directory
    inside of the jar. This can be accomplished by adding
    a line to your main program like this:
    URL
    url=myProgram.class.getResource("images/New16.gif");
    Dummy = new JButton(new ImageIcon(URL));
    where myProgram.class is the name of the class
    file that contain the main method.
    Hope this helps....
    ;o)
    PS: I don't want your dukes...I got them coming out of
    my ears!
    O.K, that works thank you.
    I put something like:
    for all the 'buttons' in the toolbar
    URL url = null;
    Class ThisClass = this.getClass();
    url=ThisClass.getResource("images/New16.gif");
    Dummy = new JButton(new ImageIcon(url));
    Dummy.setActionCommand("New");
    Dummy.addActionListener(this);
    Dummy.setToolTipText("New Database");
    bar.add( Dummy );
    etc for all the rest of the 'buttons'
    After Reading the API docs on URL's etc I'm still not sure as to why it works, but it does....
    I am able now to place the class files in a jar along with the images and it all works fine
    although now I don't quite follow all my code....................
    I assume that
    url=ThisClass.getResource("images/New16.gif");
    returns some sort of 'relative url ' ???
    Thanks for the help though.

  • To create a desktop shortcut icon for the application for a jar file

    Hi
    I have created a jar file for my application. when i double click this jar file, the application opens.
    What i want is--
    Instead of user clicking on the jar file, my application also has to create a desktop shortcut icon.
    If the user clicks on the icon which is on the desktop the application should open.
    Please suggest me.
    Thanks in advance.

    >
    Please suggest me.>Launch the application using java webstart. A webstart launch offers things like a splash screen, automatic updates, and desktop integration in the form of desktop shortcuts and program menu items. If the launch file specifies icons, they are used for the shortcuts, otherwise a generic icon is used.
    For a comparison between a sandboxed webstart launch and a plain app., try the [Text Width Checker|http://pscode.org/twc/].
    While the TWC can run OK within the security sandbox, many applications need to be digitally signed and request extended permissions, to do what they need to do.
    STBC is an all-permissions webstart launch.
    Edit 1:
    And for one that definitely suggests desktop shortcuts (I usually avoid them, in favor of a menu item only), try the sandboxed [demo of the PrintService|http://pscode.org/jws/api.html#prs], which prompts the user to choose.

  • How to include images/icons for a jar file

    Hi,
    I need to create a jar file which will contain my application. My source code (.java) files are in "app" folder. I compiled that using javac -d . *.java and one package("appl") was created. I have all icons and images related to my application are in the folder named "icons" in the directory where source files are located i.e; app folder - "app/icons". I am accessing the images in the icons directory as "icons/book.gif".
    I created a jar file from source file directory with the option
    jar cvf app.jar app
    and i added this jar file to my classpath also.
    I have created a batch file to execute this application and set that batch file to "path" environment variable.
    It is running from any directory but no icons are appearing in that application if i try to run the application out side the "app" folder.
    Can any body give suggessions to solve this problem?

    Thanks for the added info, now let's get started.
    To use files in jars, you need to refer to them via a URL, so you'll need to modify your code a little bit first.
    URL imgURL = ClassLoader.getSystemResource("icons/BOOK.gif");
    setIconImage(Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage(imgURL));Next, you'll need a manifest. Using any text editor such as notepad, create a file called manifest.txt and put two lines in it. The first line will specify the class (w/o .class on the end) that contains your public static void main method, the second line is just an empty line (just press return).
    Main-Class: main
    (a blank line)
    Save this file with your class files (e.g. in Exam folder).
    Next build your jar. We want the jar to contain the package folder and your icon folder as well. So use this:
    jar cmf Exam/manifest.txt myJar.jar Exam/*.class icons
    And you should now have an executable jar. You can run it from dos with:
    java -jar myJar.jar
    or you can double-click it from windows.

  • Icon for Jar File?

    Is it possible to include an Icon in a Jar file
    that will be displayed for the jar file instead
    of a default Icon give to it by Windows 2000? If
    so, how is it done?
    Thanks

    no it's not possible as the JAR file does not know anything about the operating system. this is windows dependend. if you want a custom icon for one jar file, create a shortcut to the jar and adjust the icon of this shortcut.

  • Storing Icons in JAR Files

    As per the optimization best practices for web deployed forms , Image Icons( which are GIF images) on the buttons can be placed in a JAR file so that it can be cached by the client side JVM . Can anybody help me out and tell me the steps of how to do it. Thanx in advance.

    Sorry, you're correct it does need to be on the "archive_jini=" as well!
    If your using rollover images, I found the best way to get these working was just to include them in the Rolloverbutton.jar file. I did this by loading the rolloverbutton project into JDeveloper, adding the icons into the project and re-deploying. There are some good notes at http://otn.oracle.com/formsupgrade to explain how to generate JPCs.
    If your using standard Forms Iconic buttons...
    Once your form has loaded, double click the Java Console Icon in the system tray, you should see lines that state;
    Loading http://<myserver>/forms90/java/f90all_jinit.jar
    Loading http://<myserver>/forms90/java/calendar.jar
    Loading http://<myserver>/forms90/java/rolloverbutton.jar
    Loading http://<myserver>/forms90/java/gs.jar
    If these are loading ok, in the Java console hit the 5 key. Then re-load the form so that images are reloaded and check for lines that state;
    "Loaded image" It should state "Loaded Image Jar:http://<myserver>/forms90/java/gs.jar!<image>.gif."
    If it gives a different URL, then the imagebase must be set incorrectly.

  • Deploying icons as jar file in Forms 9i

    We (Cancer Research UK) don't quite understand what is happening -
    We followed the guidelines in the white paper "Oracle 9IAs Forms Services - How to Deploy Icons"
    to deploy the images in a jar file:
    Altered the formsweb.cfg file to contain
    archive_jini=f90_jinit.jar, our_images.jar
    imagebase=codebase
    Seemed to work, jar file downloaded to browser (IE 6 ) ok , web deployed form shows toolbar icons, great..
    However, when we removed an existing entry in orion-web.xml which maps our application/icon directory
    or remove the *.gif files from this directory, our web deployed form no longer shows the icon images.
    Does it still need these to be present on the server, if we direct it to use cached images ?
    We are test running just the Application server components installed with the IDs 9.0.2 on a Windows 2000 server.

    Hi Steve,
    I have the exact same problem. The jar is downloaded and everything is 100% best practises, but there is no way I can make the damn system use the files in the JAR file. No matter if imagebase=codebase: it will only use files on the server, and if I remove the gif files they don't show up.
    I think there must be a glitch in the system somewhere. I don't completely understand this part of it: the codebase is mapped to /forms90/java - but how does that add up when you put your files in c:\my_gifs (as detailed in Best Practices section of the Deploying Icons paper). How does the server know where to look when codebase are two different places - I'm thinking it can't for some reason.
    My Apache/Apache/logs/error_log clearly states that files (real files) are not found in c:\my_gifs if I remove them from the file system. The JAR is downloaded, but the server doesn't use it.
    However, most people have all their gif files in the same folder as their images.jar file, so they don't ever discover that the server ignores the jar and uses the files instead.

  • Storing images and icons in a JAR file

    Hi,
    I current have a JAR file to store our application icons in the GIF format. The application also uses several images which I would prefer to be stored in the JAR file as JPG files.
    Is it possible to store both GIFs and JPGs in a JAR and access them from Forms?
    For Example:
    I am using code like:
    read_image_file('mess_bold.jpg','URL','IM_BOLD');
    and I have this image file in the JAR but I get the error...
    Unable to load image mess_bold.jpg for Image Item
    Also the Apache log shows...
    File does not exist: c:/oracle/frhome_1/forms/java/icons/mess_bold.jpg.gif
    Is this a config problem? I noticed that the read_image_file call looks in the icons directory which I specify in my Registry.dat file. Do the settings for default.icons.iconpath and default.icons.iconextension apply to images as well?
    Thank you in anticipation.
    Regards,
    Tom Casserly

    Hi,
    I already had the entry imageBase=codebase in my formsweb.cfg
    According to this article it is possible to read images from the JAR using the 'URL' parameter see
    https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:14:2109110130595761322::::p14_database_id,p14_docid,p14_show_header,p14_show_help,p14_black_frame,p14_font:NOT,137397.1,1,1,1,helvetica
    I have managed to get the images loading from the JAR but only if I have them in the same directory and format (ie gif) as the icons. As I suggested above I think that read_image_file must be accessing the default.icons.iconpath=icons/ default.icons.iconextension=gif from my Registry.dat file.
    There is also a slight problem that you cannot seem to use read_image_file in the WNFI or PF trigger as suggested here: Re: Read images from a jar file?
    Has anyone managed to access images from a JAR in JPEG format alongside GIF icons?
    Thanks for you help.

  • Icons disappear when creating a jar file.

    I am trying to make a runable jar file of an application that i wrote however, when i export it from eclipse the icons no longer appear. All of the icons are contained in a class called gridGui. Any help would be great.
    Thanks
         //Creates all of the icon files used for the buttons
         Icon fiftyCents = new ImageIcon("Fifty_Cents.gif");
         Icon oneDollar = new ImageIcon("One_Dollar2.gif");
         Icon twoDollar = new ImageIcon("Two_Dollar.gif");
         Icon threeDollar = new ImageIcon("Three_Dollar.gif");
         Icon fiveDollar = new ImageIcon("Five_Dollar.gif");
         Icon tenDollar = new ImageIcon("Ten_Dollar.gif");
         Icon freePlay = new ImageIcon("Free_Play.gif");
         Icon blank = new ImageIcon("Blank.gif");
         Icon unflipped = new ImageIcon("UnFlipped.gif");
         Icon oneDollarCoupon = new ImageIcon("One_Dollar_Coupon.gif");
         Icon threeDollarCoupon = new ImageIcon("Three_Dollar_Coupon.gif");
         Icon tShirt = new ImageIcon("TShirt.gif");
         Icon youLose = new ImageIcon("You_Lose.gif");

    You are using the ImageIcon constructor that takes a file name argument. When you create the jar file the source for the images are no longer files but entries in your jar file. You have to access them using the ImageIcon constructor that takes a URL argument.
    The actual URL you use is obtained (eg) from the Class method [getResource()|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/lang/Class.html#getResource(java.lang.String)].
    Suppose your Fifty_Cents.gif was in your jar file in the folder "images" then you could say:
    Icon fiftyCents = new ImageIcon(getClass().getResource("/images/Fifty_Cents.gif");Note the use of forward slashes and the fact that Fifty_Cents.gif has to be capitalised exactly as it is within the jar file.
    There are other ways of organising the resources - see the getResource() documentation for details.

  • Icons in .jar files...

    Hi ,
    I have configured successfully and see some icons on buttons. Next day , i took the .jar file , copied it in \java folder and i have configured appropriately the formsweb.cfg file - calling this .jar file among others- according to my system (where the icons are displayed as wanted)...
    But the icons are not appeared in the 'destination' computer.....
    What may be the problem....????
    Should i have to make an archive (jar file) in the 'destination' computer ... as i have done on my own...?????
    NOTE: both computers run on Windows XP , and Dev10g have been installed....The only difference is that the one has Oracle10gXE... whereas the other Oracle10gEE
    Many thanks,
    Simon

    Note that the filenames within the JAR are case sensitive. So, if the files in the JAR have lowercase names, make sure the property in Forms also uses a lowercase name. Also remove the extension (if any) from the icon property in Forms.
    If that's all ok and it still does not work, have a look at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/pdf/webicons.pdf. Looking at your question it seems you've done what the white paper says, but you never now what you might pick up from reading it (again).

  • Forms - Icons without jar file

    Hi!
    I´m trying con configure my standalone weblogic (10.3.6), running in development mode,
    to find my forms 11 applications icons without use a jar file.
    So, at formsweb.cfg i changed imageBase to documentBase and at Registry.dat i set
    default.icons.iconpath=/img/
    default.icons.iconextension=gif
    Now I´m trying to map /img/ to may local directory (/img/ -> C:\repo\img)
    I tried to change httpd.conf and didn´t work. When I access http://localhost:7001/img/myimage.gif, it returns 404.
    Alias /img/ "C:\repo\img\"
    <Directory "C:\repo\img">
        AllowOverride None
        Order allow,deny
        Allow from all
    </Directory>
    Then, i tried to change forms.conf
    AliasMatch /img/(..*) "C:\repo\img\$1"
    But No change at all.
    Does anyone know how to create a alias in weblogic in development mode?

    If you chose the "Development" install type you will not have OHS although you might have its config file (httpd.conf).  Further, creating an Alias in WLS is a little more painful than doing it in OHS.  My recommendation is that you keep it simple for testing.  You can use an existing Alias and extend it.  For example consider the Forms \java directory (e.g.
    C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_FRHome1\forms\java)
    Simply add a sub-directory to it and store your images there.  In the form, simply reference the complete image name without a path.  For example:  myimage.jpg.  Then in the Registry.dat include the virtual path to the images.  So, here are the steps.
    1.  Create a sub-directory C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_FRHome1\forms\java\images
    2.  Copy your images to this directory
    3.  In the form, refer to the images by name only.  If your images use a different extension from what is stored in Registry.dat, include the extension in the form.  If the extension is the same then ommit it.
    4.  In Registry.dat, set default.icons.iconpath=/forms/java/images/  (be sure to include the trailing slash)
    5.  On the client machine, close all open browsers and open the Java Control Panel.  Clear the jar cache ("Temporary Internet Files")
    Your done.  Because the form does not have a hard coded path to the images, you can easily move the forms to production without worrying about the need to change the code to handle the image location.
    Oh, one last thing.... If you are using a newer JRE version you will get a securty warning suggesting that there may be unsafe code being executed.  It will then ask if you want to Block or Don't Block.  This dialog is the result of retrieving your image from a source other than the applet jar.  You will need to select Don't Block in order for it to work correctly.  This is another reason why we (Oracle) recommend using signed jar files.

  • Iconic (gif) jar files

    Just curious, how does forms know the name of the jar file in the codebase directory to search when loading icon (gifs). Or does it search every jar file in that directory?
    thx,
    r.b.

    > how does forms know the name of the jar file in the
    codebase directory to search when loading icon (gifs).
    You add the jar file to the archive_jini parameter. The gif in the jar file has a path. (If there's no path, then it's just /.) Your serverApp file (registry.dat) has the path where the icons reside.
    So if your registry.dat file has, say, /myicons as the path, then your jar file, called appicons.jar contains the icons in the path /myicons.
    You specify appicons.jar in the archive_jini parameter. That way it gets downloaded to the client.
    Now the client has the jar, which has the icons. And client has the path. Voila!
    > and what happens when it doesn't find a specific gif
    in the jar file?
    Don't do that. :)
    Seriously, I don't know what happens. I suspect the Form runs fine but there's no image where the icon should be.
    You may get an error in the java console, I'm not sure.

  • How to change the icon of the jar file w/o changing the windows setting

    I may be in wrong forum/area but I am not sure.
    I have created a windows executable jar file. Functionally it works fine. I can double click it to start my app. I want to change the icon of the jar file. I know I can change the icon for .jar extension in windows, but I want to be able to give a seperate icon for just this one file.
    All windows applications have thier own icon like Word, Excel etc. Is there any way I can do this for java apps? Also could this icon be kept consistent across platform say if I copy my app to linux? (Assuming it is not made for any particular os.)
    I am sure someone has come across this before.
    Thanks in advance.

    AFAIK you cannot specify an icon for a jar file. You can, however, specify an icon for a Frame using the setIconImage() method. This will have the effect of showing the icon in the taskbar for instance.
