IDisk has started syncing from scratch?

As part of my back up strategy, I have also recently put a copy of all my photos onto iDisk.
This is approx 7000 files at 8GB and took the best part of a week to sync so that it was replicated on 'the cloud' at which point I then felt safe.
However, yesterday, my iDisk icon (the pink cloud disk icon) did not appear and instead a 'sparse image disk' icon appeared instead, and I got an error message about not being able to sync.
Today, I went into idisk preference, to find that iDisk Sync had turned to 'Off'
I turned it on and soon enough the iDisk icon came back. But...
The iDisk has started syncing from scratch. Ie trying to do the full 7000 files that will take a week!!?
Please help. Are my files still there? Why is trying to sync all these files again if so ? Am I somehow pointing to the wrong iDisk?
Many thanks in advance.

I also just noticed there is another disk mounted on my desktop with the same name as my iDisk but with the generic icon (ie the same as if you instert a memory stick)
This seems to have the files on it, but is this on my computer or in the cloud?
I'm losing confidence in the reliability of files stored in the cloud as part of a backup.

How do I delete my existing iCloud account (across ALL my apple devices), and start over from scratch??
(cant seem to get calendars to ever sync right, on my devices, and across to my wifes'....so want to start with a "clean installation")

Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account (this disconnects the device from icloud but doesn't delete any data on icloud or on other devices).
If you then want to sign back in using a different ID, do so on the same screen.
I also strongly suggest that you and your wife use different icloud accounts, otherwise all your devices will have the same data on them, same emails, reminders, etc. Most likely not what you want.

• I want to set up Firefox sync from scratch using an account I own that shows as "already in use".

I had a problem with my old Firefox Sync account (from work, using my work email address) and I would like to set up Sync again using my personal account. When I go to try to set up Sync, my only options appear to be "Create a New Account" or "I Have an Account". If I select create a new account, I get stuck because technically the account has already been used (I set up Sync a few years ago using my personal account but never utilized it), even though it is not in use on any of my machines. If I select I have an account, it wants me to sync the device with another, but I don't have another to sync to. I want to use my already existing account to set up Sync from scratch on my main machine. How can I get this done?

on another note: firefox 29 which is going to be released at the end of the month will use a different account system (not compatible with current sync accounts), so it might not be worth the effort setting up sync with the old credentials now: [[How to update to the new Firefox Sync]]

• A way of wiping the iPod on my iPhone so I can start again from scratch?

I would like to take advantage of this free time over Easter to spring clean my iPod library on my iPhone - completely clear it out and start again from scratch. Is there any way I can just clear it all off without labouring through hours of control-clicking?

If the music was transferred via the iTunes sync process, deselect Sync Music under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by selecting Apply. The same under the Podcasts, Movies, and TV Shows tabs.
If you are manually managing music and videos, try deselecting manually manage music and videos under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by selecting Apply.

• How can i delete a photo album that has been synced from another computer

I am trying to delete a photo album that I do not need anymore from an iPad 4. But the album has been synced from a computer that I don't have access to anymore. Is there anyway around this ?

Photos that were synced from a computer can only be deleted by connecting to a computer's iTunes and changing the sync selection on the device's Photos tab.
Is that the only album that was synced from that computer (and you now sync the iPad to a different computer ?), or do you have other albums from it that you want to keep on the iPad ? If you want to keep one or more albums on it then they will need to be on the computer that you sync to so that they can be selected on the Photos tab and re-copied to the iPad from that computer. If you want to remove all synced photos then try selecting and syncing just an empty folder

• How can I delete all of my calendars and start over from scratch?

I am sure this is an easy question because it seems that others before me have probably been in this situation. I wish to delete my calendars (and todo lists, etc) in iCal. In essence I want to start over from scratch as if I had not yet used iCal.
Do you have any advice on how I can go about doing so?
Thanks!
Rod

Rod,
Select the calendar(s) you want to delete in the Calendars list on the left side of the iCal window. Then hit the delete key or select Delete from the Edit menu.

• My ipad has started jumping from app to app. Games act erratically. Not all the time. Any ideas?

My ipad has started jumping from App to App. Games acting erratically. Doesn't happen ALL the time. ANY ideas?

Close all apps in the recents tray completely and reboot iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close ..close them all! Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

• Updating to FF 4 yesterday completely wiped out my entire browsing history -- and started again from scratch as of yesterday. This is an extremely alarming, disappointing, upsetting discovery!!! Is there any way to restore / recover what was lost?

I went to "History" & found EVERYTHING wiped out & started again from scratch after d/loading new FF version. Most people are rabid about CLEARING History, but I use mine extensively. Finding it gone was not welcome. Any way to fix / recover this?

I had this problem but when downgrading from FF4 to FF3.6. I was able to recover everything, so maybe the solution is the same.
[[Profiles|Find your profile folder...]]
Close FF
If there is a file called places.sqlite.corrupt:
Rename places.sqlite to places.sqlite.old
Rename places.sqlite.corrupt to places.sqlite
Restart FF
And if there isn't well...sorry =/. You might want to save these files elsewhere too just in case before renaming them so they can be replaced.

• Start backups from scratch

I've got a Time Capsule and want to start a new full backup of my Mac keeping a copy of my previous series. Since it seems that it's not possible to partition a TC an alternative solution AFAIU could be renaming the corresponding sparsebundle file.
The steps I would do are:
1. Stop TM.
2. Change TM's drive to None.
3. In Finder, rename MacXXXmacaddressXXX.sparsebundle to, say, ....sparsebundleOLD
4. Restart TM.
5. Point TM's drive to TC.
(or should be step 5 before step 4?)
Later on, when some backup cycles are performed I could delete the old sparsebundle, and if something goes wrong with the full backup backup I could fall back (n.p.i.) to the old one.
Am I on track or have missed something important? Is it a safe procedure? (*)
I don't mind to experiment a bit, but on backups I want to double check first.
Thanks in advance,
Hernan.
(*) You don't need to add a disclaimer, it's implicit.
(**) ENVIRONMENT: MacBook 13.3 Unibody. SL 10.6.1. Time Capsule from June 2009.

Update:
It's possible to reuse an old .sparsebundle file so long you rename it to the same name TM is using in your current backup. In this case beware of disk space as TM will try to bring your old backup file up today. As expected, you'll find a "time hole" during the days the backup wasn't active. Nevertheless, you can navigate through it with TM's user interface without hassles.
In summary:
. You don't have to worry that one day TM will fill up the Time Capsule. Follow the previous recipe and it will restart over your backup procedures with a clean init.
. Later on, when you'll feel confident with your new backups, you can drop the old renamed .sparsebundle file if you want to free disk space, but you may keep it too. Swap their names, and you'll be able to browse your old backup with TM's Star Wars user interface.
. Or just keep the ".sparsebundle" extension -but with another base name to avoid any conflict with your current backup-, mount it and browse the virtual disk within the Finder.
. I don't know if the sparsebundle file is burnable on a DVD.
. If you restart the backups over I recommend to connect your Mac through a Ethernet cable, as after step 5 TM will do a full backup.
. I *highly recommend* that after you upgraded your OS and all your *third party software* to SL, restart your backup from scratch. You'll be able to save a lot of space!
Regards,
-Hernán.

• Coding with Vector file, Convert from PSD to AI or Start over from Scratch?

I have an App developer that is requesting an .AI file for developing an App that can be utilized on all the following Apple hardware (iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPod touch, iPad, iPad mini). He is insisting on it, because of the vector file. I have a design file that was completed in a layerd PSD. I want to know what, if any, quality is lost from converting from PSD to .AI vector file? Would it be better to have the Designers strach over from Scratch? Please Advise!
Thanks for your help

Depends on what type of layers are in the .psd. Certain layers type can convert to vector quality (shape layers, type layers, smart objects).
You also should ask the devloper about bitmnapped effects (eg: drop shadow) and placed images, if they are ok to use.
