Idle Oracle DB connection through ACE dropped after 1 hour
Hi folks,
I'm looking for some ideas how to troubleshoot a problem we're having with an Oracle App.
What we are finding is that when a request takes more than an hour for the Oracle DB to process the connection is being dropped.
When wireshark is used at DB server interface we see nothing for an hour and then a single packet RST,ACK with the source identified as the App Server.
We have an App server farm that is behind an ACE module that is in bridging mode. The DB server is on another VLAN so the path the traffic takes is from the App Svr through the ACE from the back to the frontside vlan, through the 6506's MSFC to be routed to the DB server.
Path like this:
Appserver|-->VL203-->|ACE|-->VL202-->|L3 Switch|-->VL200-->|DB Server
If we move the App server to Vlan 202 in front of the ACE the process carries on to completion (after 75 mins).
Is there anything in the ACE settings that could cause the connection to be dropped after an hour for traffic that should simply be being bridged through?
Any suggestions as to where to look next would be appreciated.
TIA
Zac
OK Gilles, I'll look at that in the morning. However, this is where it gets interesting.
We have DB servers on two other VLANs routed by the same switch. The connections to those DB servers don't get cut off after an hour (In the connection path I outlined swap VLAN 200 for VLAN 50 or VLAN 205) One of them is even behind the ACE in a different server farm.

The video on my mini crashes after about 2.5 to 3 hours(it varies). I am using HTML directly to a TV. When this happens, the TV goes black, but the sound remains on thru the mini itself, evan when I turn off the TV. I just let the mini go to sleep, and after an hour or so, fire it back up. Works fine til the creash. I suspect this is a temperature problem with the mini. Any comments??? I do watch a lot of streaming videos....All my Lion software is up to date.

Oracle Server Connectivity through Internet
Hi
I have installed Oracle Server in my Office. Office Server SID is "ORACLE". My office website is "xxxxx.NET". I want to access Office Server from my home (here too Oracle Server available) place through internet. Can anyone please help me how to connect to my Office Server from my home place through internet. What are changes required in TNSNAMES.ORA file, SQLNET.ORA.Hi, Is it the database server available from outside office??, Does server has a public interface? Do you have access to server through simple TCP connection from your home??
Luck.
Have a good day.

Connections through ACE module
when a client makes a connection to a vip which is in the client side vlan, and the ace sends the load balanced request to the rserver, and the rserver replies - does the rserver always get nat'd to the vip in the reply - if no nat is configured? Because if teh client sends a syn to the vip and receives a syn,ack from a different ip, it'll just send a reset correct?
how about in this example using nat~? Does teh rserver's reply get patted to 172.19.192.26, then get nated again to the vip? Or do they go straight to the client?

As long as the server replies back to the ACE the client should only be commmunicating with the VIP address in either of your two examples.
In your first example the flow will look like this.
client > VIP after the ACE client > rserver
the reply would be
rserver > client after the ACE VIP > rserver
In your second example using client nat it will look like this
Client > VIP After ACE Natpool > rserver.
the reply would be
rserver > Nat-pool after ACE VIP > client.
The ACE by default will always nat the vip to the server ip unless you use the command "transparent" under the serverfarm. When using this command we send the packet to the MAC address of the server leaving the destination IP of the VIP. The server would need to have the VIP address configured under the loopback interface.

Connection through proxy lost after updating to 10.5.5
Here the connection to Internet is done through a computer running Windows XPSP2 due to hardware restrictions (no compatible with Mac). This computer is networked through Airport and has all sharings activated. Until two days ago the system worked fine, on Mac the setup is Manually, Automatic proxy configuration. All computer have manual TC/IP configuration and the LAN is working without a flaw even now.
The problem is that with no modification in any setup the Mac cannot connect to Internet, Network Diagnostics gives red on Internet and Server, all after updating from 10.5.4 to 10.5.5
But the server that is connected to Airport through ethernet cable has no problem.Well, thanks to all who have read it though did not have ideas on how to solve it.
The issue was:
On Router for the TCP/IP configuration I put the address of the computer connected to Internet, But also on the Prosies tab I entered Manually and Automatic.
So there was a conflict and the macs could not find how to go out.
I have disable the Proxy configuration and everything is working fine now. -
Facetime stuck at "connecting" or immediately drops after (iPhone 4)
Hello all,
I have just updated to iOS 7 in hopes of fixing my facetime problem, however, no luck found. My facetime was working about a week ago, I was on the phone with someone, then the call just dropped. Tried to call again but the facetime interface would just show the "connecting..." part then never get through again.
I thought it was my school's wifi, but I tried my wifi at home and it still did not work. I also tried resetting network settings and restoring an older iphone backup before updating to iOS 7, and it still does not work.
I have tried with multiple iPhone users, mac users, and even a person sitting next to me in the same room using the same wifi network.
Any help or opinions would be much appreciated in solving this issue!
DCI have finally manged to sort this frustrating iphone 4 issue regarding NOT being able to Facetime.
First VERY VERY Important ... backup the complete phone on icloud or itunes. (I did not do this and lost my NOTES. Luckily my phone contact were on my Sim Card)
Step 1 . Go to settings and Reset complete phone to factory default (Settings - General - Reset All Settings (Enter code if requested) - Erase all Content and settings.
Step 2 . Once reset you will have a factor default iphone (In my case it had ios7 on boot up)
Step 3 . Setup as new phone in itunes i.e choose english then find my phone - icloud etc etc etc
Step 4 . Test out facetime (DO NOT restore Apps or Music at this stage)
Step 5 . Once facetime worked I restored my Music ,videos etc from itunes.
Really happy that finally it all works..
Trust this helps all the frustrated people out there who can not facetime on iphone 4 -
Lost ability to connect through port forwarding after cisco guest software install
Using Remote Admin 2.2 software to remote into work computer.
E1000 I installed the cisco guest software on my pc and configured the guest about 2 months ago.
Needed to get into office PC this past weekend and connection fails.
Have a static IP address on router. forward a single port to my office machine within the router.
Get nothing but an error on connection. Router is 2.1.02 build 6Jan 15, 2013.
Log file shows nothing on the incoming log? dynamic ip at home...
Another office worker, on the same internal network, has gotomypc running and port forwarding setup on router and he is still working fine, he can access his pc from home. The only change I have made to router was the cisco connect for guest access.
Is it possible this is stopping my remote admin?
thanks kevinHey kevboac! Make sure that the computer you're using to access the remote computer is connected to the main wireless network and not to the Guest network. Being connected to the Guest network will prevent you from doing File and Printer Sharing, and Remote Access. Hope this helps!

Why do some home phone connect incoming calls drop after CID announcement?
I just changed my old house land line service with AT&T over to VZ which carries my cell phone accounts. I have the HPC tied into my Panasonic home system with Voice mail recorder and with 5 cordless handsets.No problem with calling out and receiving a majority of incoming calls. But callers do have trouble calling in. When we initially pick up the handset to take a call after the Caller ID is announced and say Hello, there is only silence. After a 2 to 4 second pause a busy signal is heard that terminates the call attempt. The missed call number is recorded in the ansering systems list as a missed call so at least we know who tried to call, unless it is announced as private or unknown.Has anyone else experienced this?

WRT54G v.6 loses wired/wireless connection after 2 hours
I have been trying for two weeks to get my router to maintain connection to both my wired and wireless computers. It drops after 2 hours. It says it is connected but I can't get anywhere. I have DSL with a static address. I put the static IP on the router and have the router DHCPing to the others. Have "live chatted" with Lynksys 4 different times with no luck. Based on live-chat advice, I have updated the firmware to 1.01, and changed the MTU from 1500 to various other numbers with no positive results. Both computers drop at the same time. If I take the router out of the loop and plug straight into the DSL modem, it stays up forever. I run XP home on my wired computer and XP Pro on my wireless laptop. I am at my wits end and would appreciate any help that you can offer.
It didn't like that either! I got to thinking about how it said that I was still connected but I couldn't get anywhere so I called my ISP today and had them double check my connection. The technician said that I was having abnormally high errors rates going out of my dsl (new, had it replaced recently) modem. He had me reset the modem, then reset the router, update my DNS numbers.......same thing, about 2 hours later, DROP! I have about decided that it is a problem between my dsl modem and router instead of my router and computers. For one thing, I reset everything during my lunch break. Back at work, right after lunch, I could ping my static IP on my router but, sure enough 2 hours later, I couldn't ping it despite my ISP saying I was connected. That leads me to believe my router doesn't like my modem or vice versa! Any other suggestions?

Oracle DB Connect Date Selection
Hi All,
I have managed to extract from Oracle db connecting through DB connect, I'm currently having the problem of limiting my extraction using the date data selection.
I have declared the date to be numc 10, and when the data is extracted over my date will appear as 1-AUG-07, which is still ok as I can transform into SAP format. However, I would like to limit my data by a Date selection, but any format i enter it will return an error.
May I know how i could do a date selection?
ThanksHi,
you have to convert your oracle date.
eg.
SELECT TO_CHAR(CURRENT_DATE, 'YYYYMMDD') FROM DUAL
will give you 20070511.
hope this helps...

Connection was unexpectedly dropped??
Hi there,
Can anyone PLEASE HELP ME 8) I am running the code below where I am connected to AS/400. But every so often when I attempt to execute the query I get an error saying the connection was unexpectedly dropped. I have no idea as to why this happens. It only happens sometimes??
select = connection.createStatement();
try
resultSet = select.executeQuery(command); //where command is the SQL select statement.
//catch(com.ibm.as400.access.ConnectionDroppedException e)
catch(SQLException e)
System.out.println(e.getMessage());
Any help will be extremely appreciated 8)Cross posting is not popular but atleast u got the right forum this time ;-) http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=31&thread=315488
Connections usually get dropped after a period of inactivity.
One option is to check for a closed connection before every qwery: e.g.
if( connection.isClosed() )
connection = DriverManager.getConnection( "url", "user", "pass" );
select = connection.createStatement();
...the other option is to use a connection pool as i suggested in my answer to your cross-post.
p.s. you should declare statments / resultsets locally and close them in finally blocks otherwise you will have some some serious row / table locking problems. -
Secondary ACE dropping connections
Let me start with: I have a failover set of ACE-4710's running FW 4.1. This had occurred on previos versions of the firmware as well.
I have a application (Oracle Forms Based) with a persistent connection required. On LB1 the service runs without issue, as soon as I try to run it on LB2 the connection drops after 30 seconds or so... Any ideas, and further troubleshooting I can do? The configs on both devices seem to be in sync if I do a sh ft group brief on both devices and there are no sync errors.
Thanks in advance.
MattMatt,
Unfortunately nothing in the config jumps out to be an issue. Could you get a sniffer capture from the ACE that has the problem to see who is resetting the connection after 30 seconds?
If you do not have a sniffer available you could try using the ACE capture utility.
You first need to create an ACL to match a test client IP destined to the vip address.
access-list test extended permit ip host client host vip
replace the client IP with the word "client" and the vip you are hitting for "vip"
Once the ACL is built to match the interesting traffric you can build the capture.
you can name the capture anything you want the sample below uses the name "name"
from the #prompt
capture name interface vlan 1000 access-list test
capture name start
Have the cleint hit the vip. You should see the capture data scroll accross the screen at this point. Once you experience the failure you can stop the capture.
capture name stop.
If you need to poll this off in a format that you can open with Wireshark you can issue the command
copy capture name disk0: name
This will create a file on disk0: with the name you give it. From there you can ftp or tftp this file off and open it with wireshark. If you want to send this I will be happy to look at it.

Remote App on iPad connects but drops after about 20 mins. Need to turn off wait about 1 minute, then turn on wifi on iMac before it can reconnect. Need some help please.
Already gone through troubleshooting guide a zillion times. Thanks.This worked for me... A little time consuming but once you get rolling it goes GREAT... Thanks....
I got my artwork and saved it to my Desktop
Opened up Microsoft Paint and clicked on "File" and "Open" and found it to get it on the screen to resize it
Clicked "resize" and a box for changing it opened up
Checked the box "Pixels" and "Unchecked maintain aspect ratio"
Set Horizontal for 640 and Vertical for 480
Clicked on "OK" and went back to "File" and did a "Save As" and chose JPEG Picture
It came up "File Already Existed" and clicked "OK" (really did not care about the original artwork I found because wrong size)
Went to iTunes and on the movie right clicked on "Get Info", clicked on "Details", then "Artwork"
Go to the little box on the top left that shows your old artwork and click on it to get the little blue border to appear around it and hit "Delete" to make it gone
Click on "Add Artwork" and find it where you put the one from above on your Desktop and hit "Open" and OK and your new artwork is now there and all good.
Sounds like a lot of steps to follow but after around 5 or so you will fly through it. This worked perfect on my iPhone 6 Plus and I have artwork on my Home Videos now. -
Solved: message "You are not connected to the Internet" after idle sleep
Summary: What worked for me was to turn off IPv4 and IPv6 on my unused interface.
The problem was that after my computer had been in sleep mode, Safari would say:
"You are not connected to the Internet."
or "softwareupdate -l" would say:
"This computer’s Internet connection appears to be offline."
Yet Firefox worked OK and traceroute also showed the connection was fine.
Digging deeper (though only later, after I found the command), "scutil -r" indicated a problem with DNS lookup:
$ scutil -r developer.apple.com
Not Reachable
$ scutil -r 17.254.2.129
Reachable
I'm using 10.6.6 on a Mini (model Macmini1,1), which has a wired ethernet connection on en0 and an AirPort on en1. I use the wired connection, but I also configured the AirPort just because, and then turned it off in the network preferences. I use a static (manually-configured) IPv4 address on en0 and DHCP on en1 (when it's up, which is only for experimenting). I don't use IPv6 as such, though I've left it enabled.
I was initially confused, thinking the problem was intermittent, though it's not. I tended to assume that because the display had gone into standby the computer must be sleeping, without checking that the power light was dimming and brightening, indicating sleep mode. Later I found the "pmset -g" command to display the power management settings. Among the settings is:
ttyskeepawake 1
This means that if I had a shell session open in Terminal, which I did quite often when investigating the problem, the computer put itself into idle sleep later than if I didn't have the session open. The times in Energy Saver settings in System Preferences seem not to be very accurate anyway. For instance, with the default computer sleep and display sleep settings of 10 minutes and a shell session open, I've seen it take 17m25s for the display to blank and a further 14m16s for the computer to sleep, for a total of 31m41s.
The problem only occurs after an idle wait. It doesn't occur after a software sleep (entered from the Sleep entry in the Apple menu or using the keyboard shortcut) or after pressing the power button momentarily.
One way I found to fix the problem was to turn the AirPort on and then off again through Network Preferences (or the menu bar item). Later I found that disconnecting and reconnecting the ethernet cable also fixed the problem. I hoped to find a better way.
What led me to this halfway house solution was noticing that if I turned the AirPort on and then off again, entries for en1 still remained in the routing table. These entries were for IPv6 link-local and multicast networks, as in this edited output from "netstat -nr":
Internet6:
Destination Gateway Flags Netif Expire
::1 ::1 UH lo0
fe80::%lo0/64 fe80::1%lo0 Uc lo0
fe80::1%lo0 link#1 UHL lo0
fe80::%en0/64 link#4 UC en0
fe80::216:cbff:fexx:xxxx%en0 0:16:cb:xx:xx:xx UHL lo0
fe80::%en1/64 link#6 UC en1
ff01::/32 ::1 Um lo0
ff02::/32 ::1 UmC lo0
ff02::/32 link#4 UmC en0
ff02::/32 link#6 UmC en1
Even with the AirPort switched off, ifconfig showed it as being up:
en1: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
ether 00:17:f2:xx:xx:xx
media: autoselect (<unknown type>)
status: inactive
I don't know if these observations are relevant, but anyway they led me to the solution (well, workaround). The way I finally fixed the problem was as follows.
1. Create a new location in Network Preferences. (This isn't strictly necessary, but it allowed me to keep the AirPort configuration (including my wireless password) intact in the default Automatic location.)
* Click on the Location pull-down
* Click Edit Locations...
* Click +
* Enter new location name (I called mine Wired-static)
2. Configure the Ethernet interface with its static address. (If using DHCP, I'd have skipped this step as DHCP is the default.)
3. Go to the AirPort configuration (even though it's shown as Off).
* Click on Advanced
* Click on TCP/IP
* Select Off for both IPv4 and IPv6
4. After clicking Apply in Network Preferences, a new "Location" item appears in the Apple menu between "Dock" and "Recent Items". Select the new location. This setting sticks across boots.
I hope this helps anyone else in a similar situation. Maybe if you use wireless it would help to turn off IPv4 and IPv6 on the Ethernet interface?Try:
- A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset Network Settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

Wireless Connection drops after a few moments
Hello everbody!
Background: I have a cheap laptop with a windows only ACPI module, so I have to set acpi=off at all times anyway. I tried Ubuntu, which has the wireless problem too, but instead of repairing something bloated like Ubuntu, I now found my way to Arch to make it right from the beginning.
If the wireless problem gets solved, I want to go on installing the nvdia driver, maybe configure xmonad. (I want to try KDE4 for fun too though, eyecandy you know ) Simple working desktop without getting my laptop heated up like windows does.
The problem: I set up my wireless connection like the wiki says:
-The original SSID was "FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7270 Annex A" which I tried to escape with \ and using 'ssid'. This wouldn't work at all, if you have any explanation for that I'd love to know it. I changed the SSID to something without spaces and special characters and the connection would work. But it would be nice to change it back to the original.
-So it works now. Fine, I thought. But the connection drops after a few moments and I have to "killall wpa_supplicant dhcpcd" and start them again to make it work again. For a few moments only. So I went through the logfiles and found error messages which Google wouldn't help me solve on my own. Now I'm asking the Arch specialists here
Note: Using the partedmagic livecd, the wireless connection works out of the box and absolutely stable. I believe even a bit faster than under windows. So it has to work perfectly, I just don't know how to make it in Arch yet.

Thanks in advance to anyone helping me! I really really want to get Arch going. It's ideal for this laptop, no wasting of disk space, ressource friendly, the temperature doesn't go up as much with less cpu usage I guess..
I've written quite a bit, but hopefully this makes it easier for you to help me! I've included all I thought which could be useful.
Greetings from Germany,
FenrisThe easiest solution might be to setup NetCfg somehow with your wifi card and access point. Have you tried that? Can you find your card's chipset on the wiki?(chances are that your particular chipset will need a firmware put into /lib/firmware. Again that's found on the wiki on the NetCfg or Wifi page, I forget which sorry.) Those are two places where I'd look for good information.
By the way, your rc.conf is way out of date. You should look at updating it by using the recent rc.conf.pacnew file that you'll find in the /etc directory.
