IDM constantly failing...

Hi!
IDM java applet is constantly failing on my machine. Sometimes the applet isn't even loaded. And usually all the IE windows disapper. I'm using IE 6.0.2800.1106 with JRE 1.5.0_06-b05. I've added the "-Xmx256m" into the JRE runtime settings. Am I missed something? What browser are you guys using?

You mention that your ie windows just disappear. I had this exact same issue a while back and thought it was my PC. I got on another PC and had the same issue. I reimaged the sensor from the recovery partition and still had the same issue. Finally, I blew the entire image away and reloaded with tftp and then it worked.
I know this is not the ideal solution, but wanted to share.

• Why do my updates constantly fail!!!????

This is VERY frustrating, and seriously making me lose the admiration I've always had for Adobe.
My Creative Cloud updates fail constantly. They begin downloading, and I get an error message that the download is corrupt.
I get it on BOTH my office and home Macs...sometimes behind a firewall, sometimes not....sometimes Wifi sometimes not.
What the hell is going on??? I had a client presentation and couldn't get Photoshop to work...I used a $1.99 photo retouching ap, that SERIOUSLY got me thinking about all the money I've spend with Adobe over the years.

Sallujan I am sorry you are facing a frustrating experience downloading your updates. Are you receiving any specific errors? You can find more details on how to resolve download errors at Error downloading Creative Cloud applications - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/error-downloading-cc-apps.html.

• Calls constantly failing / dropping / freezing.

I recently moved flat, downgrading from a 100Mb to 10Mb internet connection, which should still be enough to maintain Skype calls (and is playing Netflix HD absolutely fine), but every time I make a video call it constantly drops and freezes. Whilst I'm on Skype, other internet actions become very slow / fail, and my mac (2013 Macbook Pro running OS X 10.9.4) disconnects from the wifi.
Is there anything I can do to fix this? I know it's a problem on my end.

It is a issue Microsoft/Skype does not want to address. Yesterday, I spent 2 hours reading users posts related to this issue. Strangly, this issue is not resolved and surprisingly these issues are left untoched by forum moderators.
Users have posted these issues from all corners of the world and their numbers in thousands but Skype/Microsoft is turning deaf ear to their whole clientel.
I don't know how to reach Bill Gates to report this issue. Haha. I am sure he is not using Skype otherwise he might have fired whole team.
I have seen some posts wherein they point fingers at ISP of the user. Are all ISPs in the world blocking Skype. Lol
They know internally that the problem is within but don't want to annouce it which is very unfair. People have active subscriptions and paying money to talk to their loved ones and still going through pain and agony as they are unable to communicate with them.
What a mess!!!

• Exchange 2013 /m:recoverserver constantly failing due to MSExchangeSubmission.exe

Hi all,
I am trying to recover my lab Exchange 2013 server after removing a component of IIS messed all IIS functions, including all virtual directories.
The server is running on Hyper-V so I have removed and rebuilt the OS disk whilst the Exchange data resides on a separate disk. I've reset the computer account in AD and then run the command:
setup /m:recoverserver /targetdir:"d:\Program Files\Microsoft Exchange\v15" /DoNotStartTransport /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
I have now done this a number of times and on each occasion it fails when attempting to start the Microsoft Exchange Transport Submission service. The error in the event log is as follows:

• Firefox update is constantly failing and is stuck in a loop. I don't know how to bypass this. Help

When I start firefox, it automatically tries to install an update. This fails and it repeats, getting stuck in a loop which I can not get out of. Consequently, I am unable to open firefox and use the internet on this program. I have clicked ok, closed the dialogue box and ended the program using the task manager. None of these have worked. I prefer using firefox to other browsers but have had to return to internet explorer for the time being.
Do I need to uninstall and reinstall firefox or is there another option?

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
(%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates)
Do a clean reinstall:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

• Hard Drives Constantly Failing

I just received a new hard drive Monday through an AASP in Puebla, Mexico, due to a hard drive failure within two months of purchasing my laptop. Sadly, I'm now reinstalling OSX due to what appears to be a very similiar hard drive failure. Luckily, my computer is still under warranty.
I'm not a computer whiz so here are some details of the first hard drive's failure (the current hard drive is failing in much the same manner).
1) The computer became increasingly slow, eventually freezing, forcing me to force restart.
2) Should I be lucky enough that the Macbook would reboot, it would be even slower than before, and freezing sooner than before. This would forece me to reboot, leading to step 1 or 3.
3) The hard drive would no longer boot, forcing me to try suck fixes as...
-repairing from the disk utility, which did not work
-trying fsck which also did not work
4) Reinstalling OSX, going back to step 2, and repeating until the hard drive was no longer recognized.
It appears that either
A) I'm doing something horribly wrong which is destroying my hard drives.
B) There is some other hardware problem that is slowly killing my hard drives, or..
C) My AASP didn't actually replace my hard drive.
What do I do, and would it be possible to get a new Macbook under my warranty?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Apple doesn't publish a policy on replacements, but anecdotally, it seems that if Apple has tried three or four times or more to repair the same problem and not met with success, they'll consider replacing the machine.
Sure, but it's a little different if an AASP's been doing the repairs. Also because it's been the exact same repair over and over, I doubt they'd be willing to replace the entire unit without trying something else first.
Hard drives fail — they just do. One may run like a top for ten years, while the one that came off the assembly line right behind it could fail on Day 2. Odds are that you've simply been unlucky.
Also, yeah, HDDs fail, but it doesn't make sense to have 3 HDDs fail in quick succession.
Seems like, which came first...the chicken or the egg...except it's which came first, the freezing or the directory corruption.
You could very well have a failed/failing hard drive flex cable (connects the drive to the logic board) or a failed/failing controller on the logic board. I'd bet flex cable myself, but it's hard to say without working with the machine firsthand. The bad cable causes the computer to freeze, which causes you to force it to shut off, which means files don't get put away properly. This leads to data corruption, partition map corruption, volume header corruption, all kinds of stuff that makes it impossible to boot. It snowballs from there each time you try to use it.
I'd agree it's possible to coincidentally have more than one failed drive in a row, absolutely. But for them to all have the exact same problem and the exact same progression to me indicates a bigger problem.

• Importing constantly fails after 10.1 update

Hello All,
I am experiencing a major problem after upgrading to 10.1
every time I try to import media "Canon VIXIA HF20" a supported camera it fails and tells me it is referencing the media on the camera.
If I kick of the import again it sometimes works, or I have to manually copy the media off of the camera then import it from a file which seems to work.
I have never had this issue before and this is causing me a lot of grief!
Is there a fix for this?? is there anything I can do??
any help will be greatly appreciated.
Paul...

I realize that everything was fine until… But I'm not aware that 10.1 update has broken the import function in general or for any specific format or camera model. More to the point, a Web search didn't didn't turn up those reports. Nor should this format require any special plug-ins that might need updating to work with 101.
So when you ask for any fixes, I would still look at the possibility of a suspect clip. Try shooting some test footage and see whether that imports. If you still have problems, take the camera's internal drive out of the equation and try a card.
Good luck.

• Windows Updates constantly failing and reverting after SCCM 2012 R2 pushes out updates

Hi folks,
I wonder could anyone help me with a strange problem I am having!
We use SCCM 2012 R2 and I am trying to roll out updates to a Windows 2008 R2 Standard 64 bit server.
When I deploy the updates to the server they get to the server and install but during the reboot it says Windows Modules Installer for a while then shows the failure configuring Windows Updates, reverting changes screen.
I’ve tried the suggestions of disabling 'Windows Management Instrumentation' and 'Windows Modules Installer' and renaming the repository folder but still no joy.
If I use Windows Update to install the updates the updates do go on but then when I add it to the collection in SCCM to push out the patches it sees the server as if the updates aren’t installed and begins doing the installs.
After the patches installs using SCCM and when the server is rebooted it goes back into the loop of saying Windows Modules Installer and reverts the updates and strips out the patches again.
I was hoping that when the Windows Updates were installed via Windows Update and once I put the server into the collection to push out the updates to the server it would have shown that the updates are already installed on the server and show that server
as being compliant in SCCM but unfortunately that isn’t happening.
It sights a couple of errors in the Setup event logs on the offending server: -
For multiple patches - Package KBXXXXXXX failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x80070643
For multiple patches - Initiating changes for package KBXXXXXXX. Current state is Invalid Resolved. Target state is Installed. Client id: WindowsUpdateAgent.
After doing some research,
0x80070643 refers to a .Net Framework issue so I’ve ran a .Net Repair tool but that didn’t work either so I’m running out of ideas so any help would be greatly appreciated on how I can get this sever updated using SCCM and showing as compliant.
Thanks,
Bonemister

Hi Torsten,
Thanks for your reply!
I was afraid you were going to say that as it just doesn't make sense that when I install the update using Windows Update via the Ire-nternet and when the install and re-scan no updates are required. It is only when I ask SCCM to check for patches
that it sees updates are missing and installed the updates before the OS reverts when.
Is there a way in SCCM to remove the record of what patches have been installed onto a particular server? I tried deleted the server out of SCCM then applying the Windows Updates via the web then added the server back into SCCM and see did it pick
up the newly installed updates on the server.
The thing is I don't think that WindowsUpdate.log will show any failures as Windows update is showing as no more updates required. It is just when SCCM installs that patches that the problem happens so that is what is leading me to think it is an SCCM
problem.
My main goal is to get the updates into the server and for it so show as complient!
I'll check back through the even logs again. Are they any SCCM logs that show patches failing to install and why?
Thanks again,
Bonemister

• ADOBE Update constantly failing to download?

My desktop at home is an old eMac. I love that computer, but 'mother time' has taken it's toll! For some reason I am unable to download Adobe Update!? Everytime my computer goes to download a PDF file, ADOBE wants to update, and everytime I do that....it fails? I don't know what to do, or where to start?
HELP!
mahalo,
Roger

Hi Roger,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html
The combo update for Intel-based Macs...
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html
Repair Permissions after re-install, then reboot again.
If all the above do not resolve the problem, then it's time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...

• Login constantly failing

For the past couple of weeks every time I need to log in to my Apple account on iTunes or when I turn on my ATV, I enter my password and it fails.
It doesn't actually say it fails, it just asks me for my password again, and again, and again.
The only way around it is to cancel the log in attempt, quit iTunes or restart the ATV at which point my password is accepted. It's incredibly annoying.
Has anyone else experienced this? I am very definitely entering the correct password.

Hi,
Andrew, your suggestion worked.. Thanks a million!
I changed the trigger to use client_info ....and what's more now I can see it even thru my diagnostic pack/performance overview/top_consumer/session details chart in Enterprise Manager. Now I can track the session from EM, which was my primary requirement.
create or replace trigger module_trace
after logon
on schema
declare
my_module_id VARCHAR2(50);
my_seq     NUMBER;
begin
select module_seq.nextval into my_seq from dual;
insert into t1 values(my_seq);
my_module_id := concat('elvis',to_char(my_seq));
DBMS_APPLICATION_INFO.SET_CLIENT_INFO(client_info =>
my_module_id);
end ;
Thanks Chris, you are right, it is expected behaviour, so I am using client_info which apparently is specifically for this purpose.

• W520's DVDROM's drivers constantly failing

Over the last several weeks, my DVD drive constantly reverts to a 'powered off' state. I'm still able to eject the drive bay, but if I put a disc in the drive will just sit there and do nothing. Right-clicking the drive and selecting 'power on' does nothing, and there's no option at all to turn on the drive in my global power settings menu in the power manager. The device manager will highlight "hl-dt-st dvdram gt33n" as malfunctioning, yet attempting to repair or upgrade the drivers will tell me that the device is already fully updated and working fine.
Generally the only thing that seems to work is deleting the drivers entirely and restarting the computer, it will then detect the drivers automatically on startup, reinstall them, and then my drive works perfectly. However, this only seems to last for a day or two before it will revert back to an permanent 'powered off' state with the same error indication in the device manager.

Hey CorbeauNoir!
I have had the same problem...
Here is my solution:
Check if these services are checked for running while stratup: (enter msconfig or services.msc)
- Lenovo Doze Mode
- Cisco EnergyWise Enabler!
If you still have Problems you can reinstall the newest version of the Lenovo Power Manager v.3.65 or you simply put in your CD/DVD while your system is booting but before you enter the welcome screen.
I hope I could help
cheers

• Updating constantly fails

I have been unable to update PS cc 2014 and Bridge for the past few months, despite uninstalling and trying everything else. I would like the new ACR features. Any ideas?

Is there any particular error message while the update fails.
