IE7 fails to open flash

I found the following MSDN registry fix which resolved the
issue of IE7 not loading (viewing) .swf flash files. I accomplished
BOTH registry changes, however the second one fixed the problem. As
indicated below MSDN will have a follow up KN article on this
issue. This is an IE7 Security issue not present in previous
versions. Here is a link to the MSDN Internet Explorer Developement
forum. I used iexplore.exe as the process name for both reg edits.
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=877645&SiteID=1
I suggest Adobe look into this. There are hundreds of
inqueries/blogs online and this is the only fix I have found. I
posted here to get the widest distribution.

Dave
A KB article is coming out shortly about this issue. However,
here's the short version:
This error is occurring because of an unforeseen dependency
between an IE6 XPSP2 security feature (Local Machine Zone Lockdown)
and a new IE7 security feature designed to protect users from
improper cross-domain access to their local file system. Until the
dependency is corrected, users may correct the problem through one
of two possible workarounds (below).
Workaround:
Two options are available—each option has a potential
side-effect. The first option is to opt-in the 3rd party
application into the Local Machine Zone Lockdown feature control
key. This is the recommended option. It allows the 3rd party
application experiencing the problem to be more secure by
tightening restrictions on several URL actions that make the local
file system zone more protected than the Internet Zone (this has
potential compatibility implications). Users should read
Compatibility in IE6 for Windows XP SP2 under the section Local
Machine Zone Lockdown, for more information.
To opt-in to Local Machine Zone Lockdown:
1. Click “Start”, “Run”.
2. Enter “regedit”
3. Find and select the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Microsoft
Internet Explorer
MAIN
FeatureControl
FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN
4. Click “Edit”, “New”, and
“DWORD”
5. The name should be set to the process name of the
application experiencing the problem. For example, if the
application is mybrowser.exe, then enter
“mybrowser.exe” (without the quotes)
6. The Value (double-click on the newly created entry) should
be set to “1” (this opts the process into this feature,
enabling the workaround)
7. Close the Registry Editor
8. Close all open instances of the affected process (and IE)
and restart the program.
The second option is to opt-out of the new cross-domain
protection feature (which blocks access to scripts on the local
file system). Opting your application out of this feature leaves it
vulnerable to web sites that may scan your computer looking for
script files or other information. If your application is designed
to host arbitrary content, this option is not recommended.
To opt-out of the cross-domain protection feature:
1. Click “Start”, “Run”.
2. Enter “regedit”
3. Find and select the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Microsoft
Internet Explorer
MAIN
FeatureControl
4. Click “Edit”, “New”, and
“Key”
5. Enter FEATURE_BLOCK_LMZ_SCRIPT
6. Next, click “Edit”, “New”, and
“DWORD”
7. The name should be set to the process name of the
application experiencing the problem. For example, if the
application is mybrowser.exe, then enter
“mybrowser.exe” (without the quotes)
8. The Value (double-click on the newly created entry) should
be set to “0” (this opts the process out of this
feature, enabling the workaround)
9. Close the Registry Editor
10. Close all open instances of the affected process (and IE)
and restart the program.

Please post this in the flash player newsgroup/forum, this
group is for the
swf format itself (not players) ... so the people who really
need to be
reading this won't see it.

  • Failed to open flash document?????

I have been working on a flash website inside flash CS5 here at school. I have been working for almost 3 hours with no problems and I have made sure to save from time to time. I have saved with no problems. My problem came when I clicked on test movie. As the movie was loading to test the SWF of the website flash crashed and closed out on me. I had just saved before testing so I could have the latest saved. I double click on my flash document to re-open flash and I get a message that says "Failed to open document." Right after the message it lists the folder where my file is located. I still cannot get past this message and my file is a website I have been working on for over 3 hours now. I needed this for school and I guess if I can't fix it I will have to start from scratch although I had so much work completed.
Any ideas? I even tried to open flash first and then go to file open but that did nothing except give me the same error message. Then I looked under recent documents and clicked on the file document and got the same thing. I have no idea what to do. Has anyone had this problem or similar before with some sort of solution to save my 3 hours of work? Thanks

    Hi there!
I had just finished my website  when I saved the file (fla) and shut Flash down. I needed to transfer a different file from my computer onto another computer. I mounted my usb and realized there would not be enough room, so I binned some of the files and tried to empty the trash. My computer said "preparing to empty trash" for nearly 20 mins. I forced shut down my computer and restarted. Emptied the trash fine - transfered the file fine. But when I reopened the website on flash I recieved the "can not find document...." error message. I had closed Flash down before emptying my trash, and made certain there were no Flash files in there. The SWF is fine though. And I had not found any issues with saving it or any warning signs that this was going to happen.
I was saving the FLA over its self not as a save as version
    The file is 52MB
I have a 2 and half year old MacBook Pro
    2.26Ghz Intel Core 2
    Mac OSX version 10.5.8
    Saving to computers hard drive
    Adobe Flash Professional CS5 11.0.2.489
Any help would be so appreciated!
Not sure how to send you the file as its 52MB
    Thanks

  • Flash CS5 - Failed to Open Document

Hello, I am running Flash CS5. I was saving a document and then the program crashed in the middle of saving. It now says "failed to open document". I am running a Macbook, so I can't try that little WinRAR thing I've been told to do here. Help!
I've been saving to the local hard drive. The file was created and edited exclusivey in CS5 on this machine.
    Info:
    Machine: 2010 Era Macbook Pro
    OS: OSX Lion 10.7.5

if you have a working swf, you can try to decompile it using a swf decompiler.
    sothink's is the best, imo.

  • Cs6 Flash Failed to open document

Help using mac 10.7.4  created document with cs6 flash.  Wanted to continue working on it but couldn't re-open. Got message  "failed to open document". Can this document be saved?

Pay special attention to this portion (if you can't find a Mac equiv of WinRAR you can rename it to .zip as well if you have a .zip repair utility (StuffIt?)), FLAs are just compressed files:
Recovering the damaged  or corrupt files
Change the extension of .fla to .rar.
Open it using the WinRAR application.
Winrar throws a warning stating that you attempted to open damaged archive, you can safely Ignore the warning.
Go to Tools->Repair Archive. This ensures that the archive and hence, the FLA is repaired.
    Change the extension to .fla.
If you can't find a repair utility you can PM me a link to download the FLA and I can try to recover it for you via WinRAR.

  • Flash CC failing when opening existing FLA

    Hi,
I have several Flash Professional projects (primarily AIR Android), that fail to open in Flash Professional CC with the following error message:
Could not load scene into memory. Your document may be damaged.
These same FLA files open fine in Flash Professional CS6, so I know that they are not damaged.
Any thoughts on how to resolve this?
    Thanks!

I'm having the same problem, a little different scenario though.  The FLA is originally from Flash CS6, saved as a Flash CC FLA.
After saving and reopening it defaulted to "Scene 2" and wrote to the output panel, "Could not load scene into memory. Your document may be damaged."  The library was empty and nothing was on the stage.  File properties (stage width/height, framerate, etc) were correct, there was just nothing in the library.
Try #1:  I retrieved the original FLA from GitHub and tried it again.  This time it was okay after a save and reopen.   All good.  Later I saved again, closed, and reopen the next day.  It was corrupted again.
Try #2:  I retrieved the original FLA from GitHub and tried it again.  This time I copied all the library items from the old library to a fresh, new Flash CC FLA.  Saved, closed, and reopened.  Corrupted file again.
Try #3:  I retrieved the original FLA again.  This time I copied the library items to a fresh XFL file.  Saved, closed, everything okay.  Later saved, closed, found the file corrupted again.  Digging into the ~/Library folder of the XFL package there's nothing that seems wrong... all the XML files are there.
Try #4:  Opened on a different computer.  Still corrupted.
As long as I have the FLA/XFL open it won't go corrupt.  Its the moment I save and close that there are problems.   I'm working on a Mac OS 10.8, I uninstalled and reinstalled both Flash CS6/CC and Flash Builder 4.7 to ensure it wasn't bad installs.  Library is a mix of buttons, bitmaps, and movieClips.  Flash CS6 now suffers the same fate too after the latest update.

If you are using the same version the file was made in then
    the only thing
left which give such error is a corrupted FLA. Beyond
    recovery once fail to

  • How to resolve "Failed to open the panel socket"?

I am trying to run some of our Flexunit tests on Unix OS.  To setup my environment I followed all of the steps on http://docs.flexunit.org/index.php?title=Ant_Task document.  My environment is now:
    OS: RedHat 5 64bit
    SDK 4.1.0
    Flexunit version 4.1.0-8-as3_4.1.0.16076
    Flash Player 10.3.181.34
    Apache Ant 1.8.2
I am trying to compile and run the provided sample application “FlexUnit4SampleCIProject” with the included ant build script.  The application gets compiled fine but flash player fails to run the tests. The only error message that I see in the console is “Failed to open the panel socket”  Below is the complete log from the console.  Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi bastini-
Could you please tell me, specifically, which version of RedHat 5 64-bit you're using? For instance, is it RHEL or RHEV; server or desktop? Just want to replicate your environment as closely as possible.
    Cheers,

  • Flash5.5 "failed to open document" error message

Yesterday I worked on two files both worked fine.  I saved my work and a backup. This morning I got the dreadful message "failed to open document" followed by the path to the file. The output panel gave me this message:
    The following JavaScript error(s) occurred:
    In file "/Users/lucilarios/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash CS5.5/en_US/Configuration/Javascript/ObjectFindAndSelect.jsfl":
    Cannot find file /Users/lucilarios/Desktop/Trabajo_Macondo3/ProjectAlgebra09/TutorialsAlgebra/Integers/Law sOfAddition/NewProject/AssocLawAdd.fla.
The info on the file size shows 0 bites
Both the file and its backup were corrupted.
Are there compatibility issues betweenAdobe CS5.5 Programs and Mac OX Lion?  Lion has crashed my computer several times and other programs like Photoshop and Adobe Bridge have also misbehaved.  Has anybody experienced any issues with Lion and Flash?

    Hi ,
I'm sorry for the inconvience . We are actively working on with customers in resolving this issue .
Please help us answer the following question below so we can reproduce this issue and provide some solution .
About      the location where .fla file is being saved
To a local drive? (eg. hard drive, SSD drive, USB key,       SD card, opened as email attachment, opened from a zip archive, etc)
…or over a network? (eg. shared Windows folder across       Active Directory network, SMB share between OSX machines, symbolic       link/junction points to path) If so, do they have full file permissions       to write to that folder?
    The      .fla file before corruption/crash
    Reproducible from a new document?
File history. eg. originally created in CS4, saved in       CS5 and re-saved in CS5.5
    3. Where was the backup copy saved ?
    4. Did flash crash y'day while you were saving your Fla file ?
Can you please  email me your corrupt fla as well as any previous version of a working  backup copy if any to [email protected] .
    Thanks
    Sukhbir

  • "failed to open document" help

I have been working on a flash file for school using CS5.5.  Everything was working, and I even downloaded a trial of CS5.5 on my computer to work on the project, but now I am in class and it will not open.  It keeps saying "failed to open document."  I'm not sure what went wrong, and I need this file by next thursday for my class.  I need to know if there is any way to fix this without redoing my entire project from scratch.

thank you! I'll let you know if it worked!
the only problem is that none of my tweens and actions are correct.

  • Adobe Updater fails to Open on Mac?

On the Top Grey Menu at the top of my Mac, there is always a notification saying that there is one update for adobe
There is a logo of Adobe with a number 1 next to it
When I click on it, I can choose "Open Updater"
but whenever I click it, the updater logo only BLINKS in the bottom menu and fails to open
I am wondering how can I fix the issue.
Before that, one time I tried to remove flash player in my Mac, maybe I wrongly removed some important files but I don't know
Thanks for helping solve my problem.

If you can not update from Help>Updates, you can either wait to see if the server comes back up (the typical problem), or do the downloads. In general, the updates should be installed in order. If you download from the most recent back, you can check if there are any that can be skipped. You only need to reboot after the last update. Now, That is the process for the PC, but I expect the process is the same for the MAC. The MAC may require the individual reboots, I am not sure. May be better to do all and not be sorry later.

  • Unable to "try" trial version... "Adobe Presenter failed to open because..."

After installing the trial version of Presenter 7, and launching it in PowerPoint (2007)... each time I go to the "Adobe Presenter" tab, in PowerPoint, and try to click on any button (on the toolbar - for example "Help")... I see a dialog flash on the screen - for a brief moment... then it immediately goes away.
Then, if I click on "Help" again (or any other button), I get the following error dialog:
"Adobe Presenter failed to open because either it is not licensed or there is an error in the licensing system. Please close and re-launch PowerPoint and enter serial number to license it. If this problem persists, reinstall this product and try again."
Yeah, it's not licensed (yet) - it's a freshly installed "trial" version.
Does anyone have any tips on how I can get Presenter 7 working so that I can effectively evaluate it - to see if it will meet my needs or not?
    Thanks.

    Hi tripletdad99,
First of all we would like to suugest you to follow the steps as mentioned below:
1.Please clear the preferences for microsoft office and Adobe Presenter.
This will delete all the settings that you have done in office suite of products and presenter.
Next time when you lauch office , it will have the default setting enabled.
Delete the "Office" and "Adobe Presenter" folder available at the following locations :
        Win XP :
        installed drive(C: or D:)\Documents and Settings\UserName(this is your user account)\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Office
        installed drive(C: or D:)\Documents and Settings\UserName(this is your user account)\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Presenter
       Win 7:
installed drive(C: or D:)\Users\UserName(this is your user account)\AppData\Local\Adobe\Adobe Presenter
installed drive(C: or D:)\Users\UserName(this is your user account)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office
    2. Restart the machine
    3. Launch Power Point and use presenter. It should work properly.
We hope this resolves the issue.
If you are still facing the same problem then please do let us know the following details that will help us in investigating the issue.:
    1. OS (XP,Vista, WIn7)
    2. Window Edition (Enterprise, Home etc)
    3. OS is 32 bit or 64 bit :
    4. Power Point Edition(Enterprise or Home & Student )
    5. Power Point is 32 bit or 64 Bit:
    6. Have anyone ever installed presenter on the same machine before :
    7. From where you have downloaded the Presenter Installer :
    Thanks,
    Subhransu

  • Failed to Open Document (file not 0 bytes) - Suggested resolution!

(Posting this to assist others with same problem - I have actually resolved for me - please note Adobe developers for suggested improvement for work around… there is still a bug in there somewhere with corrupt files)
Using Flash Pro CS6 (v 12.0.0.481) on Mac OSX 7.5
    Problem:
Tried to open a file that I was working on last night (after MAC crashed and untidy shut down, but had saved file beforehand) this morning and got the error message "Failed to open document". The file has 10 MB of size (not 0 bit like other crashes that were not recoverable!).
    Resolution (work around):
Managed to recover the file using a combo of ideas I found on the web.
First things first... check the file size, if the file size is 0, your pretty much stuffed since the file is empty, sorry. If however the file is populated, then this is what I did:
    1) copied the file and saved it to a new location (so working on a duplicate)
    2) downloaded a rar file tool (Winrar or I used The Unarchiver for Mac)
    3) Change the name of the file extension of that duplicate to .rar (you will get a warning message, accept it)
    4) Double click on the .rar file to open it using the .rar extraction ap you selected - you will be asked to say where you want that file to be extracted to - I just created a new folder on my desktop. In the process of extracting that file (believe it or not it is stored up as many parts), I got error messages that 3 images that were used in the file were corrupted. I selected to continue and ignore that. I made note of the corrupted files set.
    5) Locate the problem files (mine were in a folder called "Library" in the extracted file set) and delete those images *NOTE: you should have these copied elsewhere since they are brought into flash generally. BUT you might also like to skip this step and try the step below first - I didn't - it could be that you don't actually need to delete those images. If the step below doesn't work, then come back here and try again)
    6) In the new extracted file directory, there should be the same file name you want, just not as .fla but as a .xfl version. This means an uncompressed version (I have no idea what that really means) - double click on that same named file.xfl
    7) This .xfl file then opened for me in Flash
    8) Save that file again as .fla, add back any images that were needed and corrupted - mine were not needed so I just left them.
I love working with flash but the instability is really a problem - I pretty much have to save a working file to another location and then try to reopen that before closing the original or shutting down / restarting.  This time I was lucky (only 1 hour of research and trial and error to recover) but previously I have had 0 byte files and had no choice but to start again (since time machine failed to save earlier versions).
    Suggested resolution adobe developers:
It would be very useful if Flash told you which files were corrupted and then gave you an option to open the document with corrupted files removed as a copied version - at least this way we could work with most of the file to rebuild.

This problem has been around for years and the solution you suggest is only the second best in my opinion.
The best would be to have a Failsafe like many other products/companies already have going: Corel, Autodesk, Microsoft etc.:
If their programs stop working they alert you to the fact and give you the opportunity to safe a copy of the file under a different name.
Can`t be Rocket Science. If you can`t make your products work reliable, at least come up with manageable solutions.
There is at least one day a month were I would be really lost without the ability of our company to rewind to the xfl version of yesterday.
I can`t imagine what someone that works as a freelancer and hasn`t got the redundancy of companies has to go through if Flash burns him/her on a regular basis.

All representatives are actively assisting other customers. Your estimated wait time is 0 minute(s) and 1 second(s) or longer. Thank you for your patience.
We all can learn from this. Whenever you get stuck in a customer-service situation that goes nowhere, as soon as you become aware of the futility, get the name and employee ID of the person, then say, "I don't mean to be rude, I think we're both wasting our time. Perhaps you weren't trained for this issue, or perhaps your system isn't displaying the correct information. It doesn't matter, because I'm not getting proper customer support this way. Please ESCALATE this to your highest-level manager IMMEDIATELY. If that person isn't availabe, ESCALATE me to that person's highest-level manager. If you haven't been given the proper training, you can use this to inform your manager that you need the training. Thanks for trying to help. I appreciate it. I have copied and saved this chat session. NOW PLEASE ESCALATE THIS CASE AS I HAVE REQUESTED ABOVE. I'm waiting now... "
The point is that you're a customer, and the company needs customers, so the individual who's failing to deliver good service needs to be identified so they can be properly trained, and so that problems in the system can also be identified, but more important is that you get the service you're entitled to.
If you search the forum for similar questions, you'll see the kind of information that the volunteer users like yourself on the forum need to know about your system and files involved, so they can help you better.
    Good luck.

  • Can't open Flash 8 files

Everytime I try to open a Flash 8 document, by
double-clicking or through Flash, I get the warning "Failed to open
    document. /document_name."
I could open this document yesterday, no problem. I'm on a G5
    running 10.4.6. I did upgrade J2SE 5.0 Release 4 this morning,
which I believe is an upgrade to JavaScript. And I think that's
    causing the problem.
If I click on a document in the Flash 8 Start Page, I get the
message above, plus, "While executing , the following JavaScript
    error(s) occurred: Cannot find file:////document_name."
Has anyone else seen or heard of this problem.
