If I get my child his own Apple ID, can he still listen to music he purchased off our family's Apple ID?

My son has been purchasing a ton of in-app content without my authorization. I am looking for suggestions on how to stop this.
Right now, we have a family ID, that me, my husband, and my three kids use. I am considering getting a new apple ID for my oldest son, Mark, so that I don't have to worry about him using the family account to make in-app purchases. The only reservation I have is that Mark has purchased quite a bit of music (with his own money) on our family ID, so I want to make sure he'll still be able to listen to it if he is cut off from the family ID.
Mark has his own iPhone--that is where he's been making the purchases, so I'm not sure we can turn off the in-app purchases, since he'd know the password to the phone, right?
Any suggestions would be helpful--we are just trying to avoid another $350 surprise on our next credit card bill!

- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
Also note the 90 limit for redownload purchases.

Your question is almost too much a personal one, begging the question "do we (husband and wife) feel comfy sharing one account on the Mac" maybe thats why nobody answered you.
It doesnt complicate anything, but it adds steps for switching accounts on the Mac/ purchases etc. of course
since your question is mostly personal, ..I wont answer THAT part of it, but creating a new account is easy.....messing with switching back and forth is also a personal preference 'issue' as well. I prefer to keep things simple, but...........you and yours, I dont know.......

when you open the app store scroll down to the bottom it will display the apple id currently in use, change it to your normal apple id email

You can set up your iCloud account on your iOS device under: "Settings > iCloud" and a other account for store purchases under "Settings > iTunes & App Stores". Unfortunately merging accounts is not possible but you could transfer all of your music manually via iTunes from your Mac or PC.

"&" is not the obvious bug/answer. Not sure what went wrong as I cannot select albums and events for sync. Situation is worse for iPad and Apple TV when error 1140 message popped up even before backup get completed.

Download and install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update, which was just released today. It may be the answer to your problems:

Yes. I would clarify your statement about the "shared" iTunes Library though. If you want each iOS device to have its own music library, you should create separate user accounts for them. Read:

Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your children are under 13, you should open 2 new accounts for yourself and let them use it. They can use these ID's for iCloud and so have their own email! contacts! calendars etc, but still share your original ID for iTunes for apps, music, etc. You can continue to sync them with your computer.

You can move the song files into a different iTunes library and sync them to a new device, but they will remain associated with the original Apple ID.

I have lost the password and security questions to my current apple ID account. The password was changed sometime in between updates and I can't figure out what it was changed to. (I wasn't the one to change it). I can hardly do anything with my current apple ID, so I created a new one (to post this question first). I can't update or get anything new.
Will I be able to transfer or keep my music/apps/purchases from my OLD account and put them on the NEW account, without losing anything? I've bought quite a lot of music, and really don't want to have to buy them again.

No. Any content purchased from the iTunes Store is permanently associated to the account from which it was originally purchased.

You each need an iCloud account and to sync your iCal calendars with iCloud. Then you can each share a calendar or calendars privately, so only available to the other, who would be able to edit it, or not, depending on your settings. Please see this page:

I'm trying to get my old information (apps, music) from my iphone that was previously on a different account to sync on a new account. I just got a new macbook pro and got a new account to go with it. Now i have tried to homeshare the accounts and drag the music over to download it onto this new account but i can't get the homesharing to work because it says the password doesn't match even though i have used the same one to log on and off of homesharing on my mom's account. I have recently tried to back up my phone onto this new account and it asks if i want to authorize it and asks for the password for my mom's account. I have the password but i am hesitant to authorize it with my mom's apple ID and password because i don't want her account to be on this computer. I want it to be my own account just with my personal music from my iphone on it. That number is for an apple server in the UK that is used for iMessage activation. A hidden SMS is snet to that number when you turn iMessage on and is used to verify your phone number. I suggest you turn iMessage off. In settings/phone turn on dial assist. Check with your carrier to see if you can send an international SMS as you end that possibility to activate iMessage. Rest your phone (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost).) then turn iMessage back on.

I just bought a used MacBook Pro 13inch retina late 2013, which was originally bought in December, but for some reason neither the iWork or iLife suit seem to be free as advertised by Apple. Can I still get them for free?

If the computer is registered with Apple as new from December 2013, then if you search for the apps to "buy" (Pages, Keynote, Numbers, iMovie, iPhoto, Garageband) in the App store, it SHOULD give you the price as FREE. If it does not, I suggest you contact Apple and ask their advice.

The only possible "glitch" in this is that you were not the original purchaser. Speak to Apple and see what they say - they may be willing to facilitate the download for you.
