IMac 20" Camera

I have a iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
I have a problem of almost
when I drop dead HD, after repairs to the service, the camera goes dead
I went back into service, saying that they did not connect. They fixed and the camera worked.
Now, after 3 months of not working again. certainly connected, but ...
I think the softvare's bug or something.
Does anyone have an idea and a solution to my problem?
Thanks

How do I get the built-in microphone to work on my IMac?  Camera works fine, but I can't record sound.

I always assummed that the mic was part of iSight (intertwined?).  The mic is situated right next to iSight.  It would seem to me the solutions would be the same some what.
Regarding the OP, I also suspect his/her problem is hardware.  It's rather unusual for the internal mic to not work yet the iSight does.

You can go strait to SL, all you need is a retail SL DVD available from Apple for $20. The US online store has them at:

Be sure to start your iMac using its original grey System Install DVD: Insert that disc and start your Mac while holding the d key. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen select Disk Utility and format the hard disk. Select "Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)".
    Then, install OS X.

iMac into cam adaptor into garage band works, but GB only sees left channel. Do you think it's the wiring of iMIcs USB vs. the camera adaptor? Or is there a switch in GarageBand that will bring in both channels? Thanks!

Sorry, I meant iMic into Camera Adaptor, not iMac. (no option to edit and re post ones own post)

  • Imac la camera ne fonction plus

    bonsoir,
j'ai un problème sur mon imac la camera ne fonction plus avec aucunes des application,
    le voyant reste éteint.
J'ai chercher partout mais je ne trouve pas de solution.
    merci pour votre aide

Try closing the Camera app completely and see if it works when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Camera app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Camera app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then try another reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

    Am currently running 10.6.8 OSX

You are confusing RAM with HardDrive Space. No iMacs came with just 4GB Drives. Check again in About This Mac under the Apple logo top left.

  • IMac G5 came with 10.4, but restore CD has 10.3.7

My iMac G5 1.8 Ghz came with 10.4.x preinstalled on it. I backed-up up to an external drive (with Backup 3) and reformatted my hard drive. When I went to reinstall my system, I found the Restore CD had 10.3.7 on it... so now I can only run Backup 2, which wont read the Backup 3 archives!
What's the deal with shipping a lower version system on the Restore CD? Do I have a right to my original OS, and if so is there a way to get it?
    Thanks for any help.
    Peace,
    -David

Yes absolutely, the computer was probably updated before you bought it with the latest OS, but the original restore discs had to come with it, as they are machine particular.
Glad we figured this one out,

  • 24" iMac builtin Camera be used with OnLocation?

    Hello,
I cannot get OnLocation to find my iMac built-in camera.
    24" iMac
    Is this not supported?
    Thanks,
    Huntër

Afraid not since OnLocation will ONLY accept video over FireWire.

  • I am new to iMac.  Camera memory card

I am new to my iMac.  I inserted my camera memory card and successfully uploaded my photos, but when I take the card out of the computer I get an error message that atells me I should eject it properly.  How do I do this?

Select the card's icon and either use the Command E keyboard shortcut or select Eject from the File menu. Or, drag the card's icon to the trash can folder on the Dock (which will magically turn into the eject icon as you do so).

  • IChat Does Not Activate iMac's Camera and Behaving Strangely

    Hello,
I opened up iChat this morning in an effort to place a video call with my father across the country. We've done this plenty of times without issue. We both own new 27" iMacs with built in iSight cameras and have fast internet connections. All software and the OS is up to date. Today, however, we could not connect and it became evident that my iChat application was the cause of the problem. Repeated attempts to initiate video calls resulted in nothing. Clicking on the video chat icon yielded nothing.
When I open up iChat's preferences, nothing happens either. By selecting it a second time, I eventually get the preferences window to open up with a message: "Select a button first!" I can select the General tab, as well as Accounts, Messages, and Alerts. However, when I click on the Audio/Video tab, nothing happens. The application behaves like I didn't click anything and keeps the previously selected preferences tab active.
To investigate the issue further, I opened up another Apple camera app: Photo Booth. Oddly, Photo Booth immediately crashes. Among other things, the report generated says the following: "Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '+[ compositionWithFile:]: unrecognized selector sent to class 0x7fff70d91b08'"
When I open up Skype, the camera is recognized and powered on (green LED turns on) and I can have video conversations. Skype works great. So it appears Apple based applications utilizing the built in camera are having issues. Actually, I just tested video recording within Quicktime Player without issue.
Does anyone know what I can do to resolve this? I realize my father and I can use Skype to make our video call, but it's the screen sharing functionality built into iChat that we need to use. And for whatever reason, this functionality also does not work within iChat. Selecting the option "Share screen with..." results in nothing- as if I didn't select it. It's very frustrating not to all least get an error.
Any feedback is much appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi,
    That is a different one.
Never seen or heard of that.
Summary so I can list what I understand.
Clicking your Own video icon next to your Buddy pic show nothing.
The Audio/Video section of the iChat Preferences is not available.
Clicking a Buddy's Video icon also produces nothing.
Can you say where you saw this ?
"Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '+: unrecognized selector sent to class 0x7fff70d91b08'"
Was it in Console and did it have any info on what app or framework was involved ?
This would seem to implicate the com.apple.ichat.plist
(there used to be an Error that would stop the Preferences appearing at all - related to the fact iChat windows never have the top right oblong white Hide/Reveal Tool Bar option button).
However iChat also has a "Software camera" as it is called that does the bit about doing the Screen Sharing.
iChat also uses two files (in this case) about Video production.
One I am sure about (a USB digitiser) and a second (ApplePixelSomething) that I am not so sure about.
I believe the first makes a UVC complaint camera look like a DV input to iChat and Photo Booth.
If you are at 10.6.6 this run this Combo Version of the Installer over the tops of what you have.
    The 10.6.7 one is here
Hopefully this will correct any faults with these files (If they have been updated since the OS came out).
    You could try deleting com.apple.ichat.plist
This is found in your Home Folder/Library/Preferences
Drag it to the Trash and restart iChat if open.
This will recreate the .plist from default held in the iChat app.
It does remove all the settings you have made in the iChat Preferences:-
    Font
    Font Colour
    Background to IM colour
    Saved Transcripts
    and so on

  • I can't get my IMACs internal camera to work

    Hi,
I'm a newby and now have y first Apple, a 2007 intel IMAC. I succeed to update from snowleopard to lion and also manually forced to install the aktual combo-update. all seems to work fine but the internal isight camera. If I start Photo booth, the app comes up but its "preview-screen" keeps black and the waiting ball is cycleing. The green camaera-LED went on and it's also going off as soon as I end Photo booth.
The hardware three shows the camera located somewhere underneeth the USB-part.
Is there any e.g. command-line way to check if the camera is installed ok? any ideas?
Unluckily I can not start the diagnostic boot (where I can chose hw-tests and installation process, because I've an ordinary Logitec wireless keyboard and no apple original keyboard available. Pressing "D" during power-on did not work, I guess some "special key functions" are limited to Apple-Keyboards. :-(

    You're welcome, linowtho.

I think you are wise to have it checked under warranty.  You have tried the right things and have a good plan.

btw.: are there any relevant app- oor system logfiles I could check for isight messages?...
Some (not all) apps that can use iSight (or the newly named "FaceTime HD" camera) are listed here:
      http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage7.html
You can look for log files on any of them that you use.  However, with what you have found on your new Mac, I think your fastest and easiest fix will come from professional service at your "mac-store".
We will watch for your status update.

  • IMac iSight camera doesn't work in oSX

The built in iSight camera in my iMac has stopped working in OSX. It certainly used to work in the past but I'm not sure exactly when it stopped.
This is definitely an OSX software issue as the camera works when using Skype on Windows XP on Parallels on the same Mac.
iChat, Skype and Photo Booth on OSX all just show a black screen for video. The green camera light is on.
System Profiler shows USB / USB High-Speed Bus / Built-in iSight
This issue seems to come up a lot and I have tried the following without success:
    - reset the SMC (power down computer and unplugging all connectors)
    - reset the PRAM
    - created a new account to see if the issue occurs in that account - it does
    Any suggestions?

+(1) You have tried some good troubleshooting already. Your iSight can only operate with one application at a time, so, when you test OS X apps:+
    + • quit all other apps,+
+ • have nothing active in fast user swithching, and+
    + • have no Windows® items using iSight.+
iSight does not work when only iChat, Photo Booth, Skype or iMovies is running. All just show a black screen.
+(2) Restart the Mac and check iSight with no other apps or Login Items running. If the problems persist, try all relevant suggestions from:+
    +  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090+
I have gone through this already several times - I came across these instructions googling for the problem of iSight not working .
+In your testing, you should add QuickTimeX to the list of OS X apps you test with iSight.+
With QuickTime I again get a black screen with the New Movie Recording command and the message "Recording failed because no data was received. Make sure the media input source is turned on an playing".
+If your iSight problem still occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested there often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.+
+(3) The instructions for proper SMC reset of your iNtel iMac are found here:+
    +  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964+
+Be certain to begin with the instructions in the section marked "Before Resetting the SMC". After that, the reset instructions specific to your iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo are are follows:+
I have done this 3 times. I went through these instructions before posting this message. Additionally I unplugged all connectors to the Mac.
+(4) If your problem persists and you need to post back for other suggestions, please let us know which OS X apps you tested in more than one user account and whether any of them worked properly. Also confirm that those tests were done when no other apps or OSs that can use iSight were running.+
iChat, Skype, Photo Booth, Quicktime and iMovie do not work.
I only had one of these applications running at a time.
I set up another user account and none of these applications worked.
The iSight camera does work using Skype on Windows XP running on Parallels. Note: Parallels is not running when I tested the OSX applications.
+(5) If you need to post back for other suggestions, please also verify that your inbuilt iSight is recognized as a USB device in your Mac's System Profiler utility.+
Yes, the built-in iSight does appear in System Profiler under USB > USB High Speed Bus > Built-in iSight
    Built-in iSight:
    Product ID: 0x8502
    Vendor ID: 0x05ac (Apple Inc.)
    Version: 1.45
    Serial Number: 606F6A72C9AEA8D8 (03.01)
    Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
    Manufacturer: Apple Inc.
    Location ID: 0xfd400000
    Current Available (mA): 500
    Current Required (mA): 500
+(6) If you need to post back for other suggestions, in addition to Skype, please also list any webcam-enabled third-party software you use, and tell us whether you have verified that it is the current version compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.4+
I do not have any other 3rd party webcam applications other than Skype. Additionally, I only installed Skype after I discovered the iSight was not working in order to see if the same problem happens with Skype.
I took a quick look at the Console. Interestingly the following message appears from all of the applications where iSight does not work. I also have a MacBook Pro where iSight does work and the same messages do not appear with the same applications.

  • IMac isight camera is now not found

I have been using the iSight camera on my iMac for FaceTime. I have installed the latest security upgrade and now it is no longer recognized.
I looked in the system information section under camera and it tells me that one is not found.
I have restarted, zapped the Pram...
    Any ideas? David

    Try K Shaffer's suggestion from http://discussions.apple.com/thread/6770624.
If SMC reset does not remedy the problem, use these instructions to Reinstall OS X.
Then check again for the camera in the System Information utility.
If you don't find the camera in System Information's "Camera" item,
click the Hardware's > USB tab and look for it in the USB Device Tree.
If nothing else works, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
