As you can see Erin, trying to recover information from a hosed drive can be very expensive.
I would suggest first the OWC site as well. You can get a new drive of choice in size there.

Wth your lap top and these folllowing tools your are set to change out the drive, reload OS and then with
the voyager pop in the old iMac drive and with the Prosoft software, try to mount and recover the files. Data Rescue is very good at this " if " the drive is not totally mechanically hosed. Drive Genius is very good at a number of things too. Nothing replaces the old adage of Back Up Back up Back up.
The voyage I listed can become the new backup drive for you.. your choice of tools: Time Machine or by cloning via CarbonCopyCloner or by what I use SuperDuper! IF you want to be really kewl.. both. By that I mean cloning and Time Machine.
It will take you an hour to swap out the drive and spring clean the iMac.. there is a hundred how too,s on you tube.
Hope this helps. Remember if is always when a drive will fail..they all do. I tell the people I support that Harddrives are good for 15 min.. to when they don't work. They will all fail.
Apple Geniuses are very limited to what they can and will do as far as file recovery.
Your best bet is to try to do it your self first. There is lots of help out here and you are not the first.

Yes, that model can be booted into Snow Leopard 10.6.3 or later. Use the discs that came with the computer to install a compatible version of OS X for the model.

If you are within 14 days of purchase you can still return the iPhone and get the phone that suits your needs, however, I think you will find that no matter which phone you get the content provider will want to know how you are going to pay for future purchases. I want to photo stream pix from my iMac to apple tv. When I try to enter the iCloud account name and password, the systems tells me that terms of service have changed and won't let me proceed. What's that about?
You need to reset the password for the "old" account, and then use that to turn off iCloud. Then you will be able to sign in with your new ID.
You can reset your password at iForgot.apple.com.

But with the passage of time the value of the professional decreases because many people go work with this modules then ...supply and demand = decreases.
Only the people that really knows continue making lots of moneyand the characteristic of these people are the same:

They really study the sap help.
They do not want to make lots of money early on.

Why my iMac (mid 2010 - model 11,2) doesn't recognize the RAM upgrade?
Hi, I have a big problem. I bought on Amazon 16 GB of RAM (Corsair Ddr3 1333Mhz 4Gb 204 Sodimm unbuffered). The problem is: my iMac can recognize a max of 3 benches of RAM but not 4. Everytime i try to upgrade all the 4 benches the iMac freezes and does 3 loud beep, while when upgrading only 3 benches it works. These are the attempts i made with every single bench of RAM:
-2x2GB Original RAM - IT WORKS
-1x4GB bought RAM - IT WORKS - i try every single bench of RAM, this means that the products are ok.
-2x4GB bought RAM - IT WORKS
-3x4GB bought RAM - IT WORKS
-4x4GB bought RAM - DOESN'T WORK - 3 beeps signal
-3x4GB bought RAM + 1x2GB Original RAM - DOESN'T WORK - 3 beeps signal
-2x4GB bought RAM + 2x2GB Original RAM - DOESN'T WORK - 3 beeps signal

Thanks!As has been mentioned endlessly in this Forum, iMacs are particularly sensitive to the exact Brand of RAM that they will run Stabley with. Samsung, Crucial and OWC's are noteworthy brands that have consistently received glowing reports of compatibility herein. Straying to other brands frequently results in the kind of problem you are experiencing.
I would concur with X423424X that you return the Corsair modules and go with OWC (http://www.macsales.com) or one of the others I've recommended.

Problem with Outlook 2010 sync: Which PST file is used for synchronisation?
I have a problem with sync of my Outlook 2010 calendar with my iPhone. Sync works somehow but it seems that iTunes grabs any calendar but not the one of my Outlook. I looks like iTunes is connected to another PST or some other calendar file on the computer.
Is there a way to find out where iTunes takes the calendar information from while doing the sync? Any logfile?I'm having the same issue. I work on one file, then move to another and when I go to export it brings up file #1. I have to close all the other files before I can export file #2.

I'm using a Mac Pro (8 gigs Ram 500GB HD), running OS X.4.11 and using Fireworks CS4 10.0.3.11. I just updated it and its still doing it.
Am also having crashes when working with text in a PNG file. I have to say I miss the text editor box since the machine wasn't trying to work with font appearances while you're editing text. Seems like this new "feature" makes Fireworks unstable. I'm thinking about downgrading to CS2.

My hard drive (1TB) failed this week on my Late 2009 27" iMac and I took it into the Apple Store. They confirmed the problem was the hard drive after a couple tests and offered to replace it for $260. I have everything backed up on my Time Capsule within Time Machine and am wondering how I can restore my entire PC (all my files, settings, etc) from my last back up a couple days ago. I am assuming it is a simple fix, but I want to have a good plan when it comes back...if there are articles or other threads you can point me to, I would apprecite it. I am looking forward to getting a refreshed computer back but it would be great to have it fully restore from my last backup.

i have tried to update the iPhoto in an iMac from 2010 ( in which i have updated the OS from SnowLeopard to Mountain Lion 10.8.3) but it doesnt work,why? Is my iPhoto too old to update do i have to buy and install a new version of i Photo ?
You may need to buy the newest version from the App Store. If you cannot update via the App Store then you are using the version from a DVD. Updates for that can be downloaded from support.apple.com/downloads/.

I'm experiencing a slow boot time after my computer installed a MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 itself on 13 Inches 2010 model, how to downgrade or fix it?
My computer is starting 2 times slower then it should be, why Apple done this to me?
Please help who really know somthing about Macs.I have the same problem, especially when I open my laptop from sleep. It takes at least 2 minutes for the computer Internet connection to work.
Never had that problem prior to the last firmware update 2.7.
Is there a way to revert back to 2.6? -
IMac 27" 2010 distorted displays -(checkerboard, ⅛ inch square dots, screen artifacts)
THE ‘FIX’ (kinda/sorta)
I own an iMac 27” 2010 Model ID 11,3 with the ATI 5750 (lucky me) I too suffer(ed) from the checkerboard, distorted screen issue. THIS is what I did to pretty much eliminate the symptoms so I could reliably use my system:
under system prefs:
-adjust display calibration- RECALIBRATE, simply create a new profile and take the defaults- DO NOT use ‘expert mode’ - get in and get out. Save the profile- make that the ‘active’ profile and close that preference pane.
disable screen transparency under Accessibility ** this is HUGE
you MUST do BOTH these steps.
do this for EVERY user on the system also...
this works quite well under Yosemite
it doesn’t fix the real problem- but it does pretty much remove / mask the symptom
as far as running apps- didn’t notice screen abnormalities while running common apps as well as viewing movies including full screen HD at 720p. Pixelmator works fine. I don’t own Photoshop so didn’t test it. I did download a trial version of Affinity Designer (awesome program) which is very taxing on a graphics display… that worked fine as well. I also use VMWare Fusion v7x running WIN2003 server VMs and Win7 VMs- no issues. full screen, windowed- all good.
** note: this DOES NOT actually fix the problem- it simply avoids it / swerves around it. I don’t know exactly why these settings worked for me- I don’t care why, I’m not paying $850 to fix a computer I can buy on eBay for $1100 or less.
I DO think Apple needs to be pushed to address these failing boards- in warranty or not- Applecare or not. These boards are the result of a design defect- not wear and tear.
My older iMacs, my Macbook Pros and my MacPro- no issues other than replacing a HD on my 2008 iMac24 incher and one of the MacBooks
I'm able to use my “truck” for now…
BTW - the Apple Hardware Test, TechTools Pro v8 and any other system “diagnostic” utility ALL gave my iMac a clean bill of health- video memory, system memory, sensors, hard drive, etc. which tells me that something about these “tools” - it STILL remains; the undisputed BEST tool we have available to us is our judgment, experience, each other, research and common sense. Humans still rule.
One More thing…
Very important - when first powering on the system after it’s been off for a while- you may / probably WILL see display weirdness; checkerboard, etc. I’ve discovered that the system needs to heat up a little- wait about 5 or 10 minutes, do a hard reset if you’re locked, reset PRAM and SMC if you want. Once booting up a warm system- you should be good to go. I leave my iMac on all the time and just let the screen saver kick in so I hardly have to do the PRAM/SMC ‘let it get hot’ thing.

Hello , actually tomorrrow i upgraded the ram of my 2010 model which already had 4 gb 1067mhz ddr3 ram , i upgraded to 8 gb 1033mhz ddr3. but when i go in to Abou this Mac option it shows me 8gb 1067 ddr3. i even upgraded the os via internet still the problem arises. plz help
The new RAM is simply backward compatible and is running at 1067 as it should ... it's not going to run faster.

How can I sync my iPhone on a different computer without erasing my applications? My iPhone was earlier synced with a PC which I don't use anymore.
