IMac mail SENT BOX problems

I posted in October my problems with iMac mail in that some emails I send do not appear in my Sent folder. In fact they do not appear anywhere, trash, junk, bulk mail etc.  In the case of business emails this can prove to be serious. I have spent a total of nearly five hours on the phone to Apple at considerable cost. In each case they took over my PC but still the problem persists. I did learn during these sessions that the mail service on iMac is different from that on iPhones and iPads where my same email service (Sky Yahoo) works perfectly.
Why can't Apple come clean and accept this systemic fault on iMacs mail (others have reported it also) and really do something to put it right? I have spent nearly £1,200 plus phone calls on my iMac and certainly expect it to put Sent emails into my Sent folder. There is a fault obviously with the iMac mail service which I thought Yosemite had corrected but it is still hiding some Sent emails although not quite as bad as at one time - may be one in ten. But it is always that one ing ten which is the most important.

Try rebuilding the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.
Rebuild mailbox
Two possible workarounds.
1. If the account is an IMAP account, Mail/Preferences/Accounts/Mailbox Behaviors - see if there is a Store send messages on server option.
2. CC/BCC yourself and then create a mailbox under On My Mac where you can drag sent e-mails to for storage.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Or you can use your Apple ID to register with this site and go the Apple BugReporter. Supposedly you will get an answer if you submit feedback.

  • When I send a message using hotmail.co.uk, it does not appear in my Mac Mail sent box. How do I rectify this?

I am using Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.2) on my MacBook (mid-2009); Mail version 6.1 (1498).
My incoming mail server is pop3.live.com (Hotmail).
When I send an email on the Hotmail website, it does not register in my Mac Mail sent box.
    How do I rectify this?
Many thanks for your help in advance.

You have to send it from the Mail program on the Mac not the website. When you send it from the website it is in the sent folder on the website.
I handle all my mail in the Mac Mail program never the website.

  • Image sent with photo app does not show on mail sent box. How do I find it?

My daughter sent a photo from the photo album on her itouch. I search it in her mail sent box, but I cannot find it. Any idea how to find it?
    Thanks

Are you looking into the right mail account on the iPod? If yo send an item like a photo from an app it gets sent from the default account on the iPod.
Did the recipient get the mail message? Maybe it was never sent.

  • Sent box problem

I'm having a problem with my sent box on my desk top. The only emails that appear in the sent box are ones I sent from my desk top. It doesn't appear to be syncing with my iPhone or iPad. If I send emails from either of these devices they appear in the sent box on those devices but ONLY IN THE NEW SENT FOLDER ON MY DESK TOP.
OK, you say, what's wrong with that?
Emails in my sent box tell me who I've sent them to. emails in the sent FOLDER don't – they just say I've sent them from me. There isn't an option to see the recipient. This makes it almost impossible to search for an old sent email.
This problem started on the 6th May. How can I get my devices to sync properly with my desktop?

I'm not sure I quite understand what's happening but it sounds like you've
got a mismatch on the folder names for IMAP.
I use IMAP on a couple of mail addresses using Outlook 2003. Everything
works fine but you must ensure thefolder names are correct.
The names on the BT servers are Drafts, Inbox, Sent, Spam and Trash.
I seem to remember a couple of years ago, I looked at using Live Mail
on one of my laptops. By default, Live Mail was setting the IMAP folder
name for sent mail to Sent Items and not Sent. This meant there was
a mismatch nbetween what folder names were syncronising.
You need to ensure that *ALL* devices using IMAP are using the same
names as those on the server *AND* that the particular client places
sent emails into the sent folder. Only by doing this can you be sure
that all the headers will be picked up when synchronising the folder.
I realise you are using Apple applications but the basic requirements of
synching folders over IMAP are the same.
If I've misunderstood the problem, I apologise and please try and post
    back with a further explanation.

  • Mail sent box.

I am using an eMac with 10.3 panther. For e-mail I am using the apple mail system in the software. When I go to my sent box check the content of an e-mail I sent, I get this message that the message I want to look at has not been downloaded from the server. I am told to take the account online. I can send and receive mail but not retrieve mail I have sent. How can I fix this?
    Thank you

I developed this workaround. Perhaps it will work for you too:
    1. In Mail Preferences>Composing, enable/check the block to "Automatically Cc myself".
    2. In Preferences>Rules, add a new rule called Sent (or whatever you prefer).
    3. In the top dropdown menu, select “all”
    4. The next/lower field should read: “From >> Contains>> (enter your full email address)".
    5. The next/lower field should read: ” Perform the following actions: Move Message to mailbox (select the “Sent Folder, not the plane)” from the dropdown menu).
    6. Click “OK”.
It will take several seconds for your new sent email to appear in the Sent folder, just be patient.
If this works, sing my praises. Otherwise, blame AOL.

  • Mail sent items problem

Hi everyone recently bought my first mac and been having problem setting up my imap email accounts, the problem is my sent messages are not showing up even tho they have been sent and received, I have 3 imap accounts all the account details are correct the left hand menu looks something like this, with the following inconsistancies
    Mailboxes
    inbox
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    sent
    [email protected]  .......................(SOME ITEMS)
    [email protected]  .......................(SOME ITEMS)
..............................(MYEMAIL2 IS MISSING FROM HERE ALTOGETHER)
    [email protected]
    deleted items
    junk E-mail
    sent .......................(EMPTY)
sent items  .............(FULL FROM SERVER BUT NOT UPDATING WITH NEW SENT MESSAGES)
    spam
    trash
    [email protected]
    deleted items
    junk E-mail
    sent .......................(SOME ITEMS)
sent items  .............(FULL FROM SERVER BUT NOT UPDATING WITH NEW SENT MESSAGES)
    spam
    trash
    [email protected]
    deleted items
    junk E-mail
    sent   .....................(EMPTY)
sent items  .............(FULL FROM SERVER BUT NOT UPDATING WITH NEW SENT MESSAGES)
    spam
    trash
Also when I send an email it doesn't show up in sent items therefor its not backed up and saved to the server it only appears in the largely empty sent folders
I would like every sent item to be sent to the sever "sent items" folder and have my "sent" folder for [email protected] appear under mailboxes like the other 2 email addresses anybody know whats going on and how to rectify it
    Thanks

Ok I solved the problem for the benefit of anybody who might find this post and have a similar problem.
The problem was I used windows mail and later windows live mail for years and they had created a lot of different folders which synced with my imap folders, my host default folders were as follows
    drafts
    inbox
    sent items
    spam
    trash
other folders which appeared in some of my accounts depending on which mail programs I had used to access them were as follows
    deleted items
    deleted messages
    junk E-mail
    Notes
    sent
    sent messages
    1) I deleted my accounts from my mac and other devices such as my iphone in mac mail this is under
Mail menu----preferences-----accounts  highlight the acount and press the minus button
    2) then I logged into my online mail account for my host, moved items from folders such as "sent" and "sentmessages" to my default "sent items" folder, they had been placed in these odd folders by various email clients and deleted those non default folders
    3) I then re set up those accounts in mac mail and highlighted the "sent items" folder in the left hand menu in each case and then went to the
mailbox menu---- use this mailbox for-----sent
    4) then finally re synced my iPhone mail accounts, now it all works and my mail accounts are nice and clean
    hope this helps someone

  • HoHow do I empty the mail "sent" box of "unread" emails -  when it's already empty?

My email account (apple mail) says I have 230 unread emails in my sent folder.  That folder was emptied by me just now.  I don't see any messages to either open or to delete.  What do I do to get rid of this message?

  • Problems with sent box, reindexing mail

I am in the middle of a mail crisis and in need of help.  I apologize for the longwinded explanation, but I thought I would be thorough in the hopes that it will help me get help.
It started with my sent box (which is very large) "dragging" when I ran searches in it (which I often have to do with my work).
Firstly, I tried to rebuild the sent box.  Mail froze halfway through the process and I had to force quit it.  When I started mail again, I noticed that the content of the messages were not correlating to the right message headers (recipient or subject line).  I tried rebuilding the sent box again.  This time, it went a little farther before freezing (it froze when the activity window indicated something was being done with the attachments - I can't remember exactly what).  After force quitting again, I noticed that the messages in the sent box were correlating properly but it was stil very slow in searches, the box took a real long time to open, and sometimes it would freeze mail.
I then tried to reindex mail as per instructions found on the apple site: quit mail, go to the mail data folder, remove the envelope foldes, and re-start mail, which would cause mail to have to import the messages again.  I made sure I did a back to up prior to trying this.  When doing so, my time capsule accused that it didn't have enough space, and that is when I first noticed that my HD was bown up to near its capacity; strange, I thought, but proceeded to erase some media to make room so I could finish the back up.  The importing/reindexing started and all was moving along fine until it got to the (now evil) sent box...  it froze.  I tried a couple of times, and it kept freezing.
I tried to go back to where I was before reindexing by erasing the new envelope folders that had been created, and replacing them with the ones that were there before and I had removed.  It seemingly worked as Mail started again.  However, now had more issues.  First, my inbox was empty...  I had to restore it from time machine back up.  Then, I noticed that the content of the messages in all of my mailboxes would not load.  I could see the messages and their previews, but the content would not load when I clicked on the messages.  All of that on top of the sent box conitunuing to misbehave.
By this time, I started getting messages from the OS about my startup disk being almost full (real strange since I had just freed up close to 80 GB!).  I knew something was wrong with that, but went ahead and got rid of another 30GB so I could proceed with trying to fix mail and would come back to this problem later.
I decided to try the reindexing again.  Tried the terminal method, but nothing seemed to happen.  Tried the replacing of the envelope folders again, and the same happened:  froze and my HD went to capacity again.  I then realized that the reindexing and the filling of the HD had to be directly connected.  After some research, I downloaded an app (whatsize) to find heavy or duplicate files, and, sure enough, there were hundreds of GB in duplicate mail data (sent box) in my library.  The Whatsize app is currently working to sort out all of the duplicate files (a 20 hour process).  This is my first time using this app, but I am thinking that, upon conclusion, I should be able to delete the duplicates...
That brings to where I am at now.  Where to go from here?  After (if) deleting the duplicates, what is the best way to restablish Mail?
Any help will be much appreciated as I cannot work without Mail.

In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. With that folder open, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post, to let me see the names of the files and folders present at the root level of the Mail folder.
Before actually posting that information, you may edit it so that the file/folder names do not reveal any details you wish to keep private, e.g. you may replace any real username with "username" to hide your real email address if you wish; similarly, you may disguise any domain names you don't want to be revealed. Try to be consistent in how you disguise those details, though, as we may need to refer to them in subsequent posts.
Now, go to ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/. With that folder open, repeat the process to let me see the names of the files and folders it contains. Again, you may disguise any mailbox names you wish to keep private. Be careful to not alter any suffixes, though.
Finally, for the two accounts involved in the problem, locate the account folders within ~/Library/Mail/ -- their name begins with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. For each account folder, repeat the process to let me see the names of the files and folders it contains.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the file path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the file path there.

  • I have 3 mail accounts on ipad 4 - All Sent box indicates 57 unread messages.  There are no messages in box. Help

I have three email accounts on my ipad 4. The ALL SENT box indicates that I have 57 unread messages. When I go to box, the box is empty, there are Bo messages.

I have, indeed, checked with my ISP and they do accept imap accounts. So I followed religiously their instructions, published in their setting e mail information for Mountain Lion website. The instructions were quite simple, and choosing imap was as easy as setting POP mail. however, the net result was that I could never connect with the servers to do anything with the mail. I know they are set up correctly, but when it tried to send mail, after a while an error message came up saying that it couldn't connect and gave me the option of dealing with a "connection doctor" or some such system. This I clicked on and noted that there were an awful lot of servers that it was trying to connect to some of which had been removed when I removed the setup addresses. The ones I wanted were, in fact, showing as connected!! It was obviously checking on anything that had been used in setting a server name from way back when and suffering with a severe bout of indigestion!
I think what really needs to happen is to get iMAC/Mountain Lion to regurgitate all that rubbish which is no longer a requirement, since I am only using three addresses, one from icloud and two from my ISP. I do not need the clogging up from redundant server names, but it seems that the MAC hangs on to everything just in case I may want to go back to them rather than set them from afresh!! I am not feeling too confident in trying to set the address that originally showed the problem, my BT one, and since this morning, it is almost working 100%, I'll leave well alone and see if it settles down. (One step forward and nineteen backwards!!)
    Cheers

  • IMac Mail strips sender from sent mail

I'm helping a friend who has an unusual problem with Mail on their iMac (10.9.5).
This first part may be a red herring. There are four email accounts on the machine iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, and one other linked to a domain name. For no apparent reason all four accounts suddenly stop working. If you take all accounts off-line and then back online again, sometimes three or four times, they will start working again. Similarly, if you restart the machine two or three times they will often start working again but stop after a couple of days. Both of these methods make no changes to any of the settings.
However, that is not the problem I'm looking for an answer to. The iCloud, Gmail and Yahoo accounts all work exactly as expected. The fourth account sends email OK but when it arrives it says "no sender". A machine running Windows, an iPad and an iPhone all have that account on them and are all using the same outgoing server settings but they can all send email without stripping the sender's details. The sender details do appear on the email in the Sent box of the iMac but not on the receiving machine. However, if the receiver looks at the full headers of the email, the Reply To Address is there.
I can only think of applying the 10.9.5 Combo Update or updating to 10.10. Any other suggestions?

Update released by Apple today can help you remove attachments from sent mails.
Open the sent mail: click on "MESSAGE", then go to REMOVE ATTACHMENTS.
    And that's all.

  • Sent e-mail messages do not appear in the sent box

sent e-mail messages do not appear in the sent box

Glad it's working for you but it's still not for me.  I was sending emails fine today and they went to sent box then all of a sudden they aren't there.  Does anyone know what is the problem and a simple solution?

  • Sent mail has stopped appearing in the Sent box

    Hello,
This problem just started 2 days ago. When I send mail I hear the little "sent" sound, but the email does not appear in my sent box. I am pretty sure that the emails are actually getting sent because I am getting replies to them.
It's just really annoying to not know if something has been sent or not (especially when they are emails to my boss).
I have an IMAP account set up with my school email address, and it has been set up for 2 years, it's working fine (the emails are actually getting sent to the best of my knowledge).

What you say doesn’t make sense. If messages sent from this account have been saved locally on your computer instead of on the server all this time, it has to be because Store sent messages on the server was OFF. Otherwise, messages sent from this account would have been stored on the server (or not at all if Mail couldn’t do that for some reason).
If Store sent messages on the server is ON, then the Sent mailbox that you see in Mail has to be somewhere on the server, but its real name could be something else (e.g. Sent Messages).
Changing the Store sent messages on the server setting causes a different mailbox to become associated with the standard Sent, so it should be no surprise that the contents of Sent in Mail change as a result, but the mailbox that was previously associated with Sent doesn’t just disappear; it should appear somewhere else in the mailbox list with its real name and a generic folder icon.
the "Sent" mailbox appears below the "Inbox"
No, if you’re talking about the standard Sent with the paperplane icon, that’s not what I’m asking. Actually, I didn’t mention “Sent” in that question at all, did I? I asked about mailboxes on the server in general? Or doesn’t this account have any server-stored mailboxes?

  • Two copies of sent mail appearing in sent box

Hi, how do I get help from microsoft?? I need help with outlook sending two copies of outgoing mail to me sent box. One copy inly is delivered to recipients.

    Hi,
If you are using IMAP accounts, Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 save a sent message in the IMAP account's Sent message folder and your IMAP mail provider may also save a copy. Therefore, it results that two messages are listed in the Sent Items folder every
    time you send a message.
To resolve the issue, please follow Clark Kent’s suggestion to
choose the option for Do not save copies of sent items and send a test message to see if the problem persists. For more information about this issue, please refer to the following article:

  • Created 'unread' mails in 'Sent' box

If I reply to a message, there are no problems. However, when I create a new message and send it, it shows up in my 'Sent' box as unread, i.e. the little blue dot appears next to the message in the 'Sent' box.
This is a new problem since I upgraded to 10.5.2. The 'Sent' box was working perfectly before, and has been since 10.0.0.

I think this problem is parallel to the "ghost drafts" appearing in the Draft folder, discussed
    at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7155690#7155690
Both problems disappear when you uncheck the 'Store draft messages on the server' option within the Mailbox Behaviours in the Mail preferences. Still the option returns back to checked by itself after a while!..
