IMac not getting very far into boot sequence.

Hi,
I can no longer get OSX to boot up much further than after initial screen where it makes the noise, and has the spinning icon, after that if moves to a blue screen, light blue, occasionaly the hard drive will make a noise as if it's accessing it, but that's all.
Before this happened, I was looking at some files on an external hard drive, to try and get rid of them, they were both over a gig in size, that slowed the iMac down.
I eventually managed to force quit a some applications down so that restart, and the above mentioned is the result.
Any ideas?

I was trying to avoid it as well, but if it gets it back up and running, till I have some free time, to back up stuff on the drive,... yess i do use time machine.. but there's other stuff on there I want another back up on it's own.
I'll let you know if there are any further problems.

  • No activity on smspxe.log and I am not getting very far when testing OS deployment

Hello and thanks for any help. I have a few OS deployment issues.
    1. There is no activity on smspxe.log. This has been a problem for two weeks. I believe it is a symptom of trying to fix a bigger issue (#2)
    2. I am trying to move us from SCE imaging to SCCM 2012. We had CM working at first but had to switch back. Now when I try to do a PXE boot, I see this message.
    Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired
The Windows Boot Configuration Data file from the PXE server does not contain a valid operating system entry. Ensure that the server has boot images installed for this architecture.

    Error code: 0xc0000098
I have tried these steps -  disable PXE on the DP (which is also the MP), remove WDS, I hid the remote install folder, restarted server, installed the WDS role. It wouldn't start so I did wdsutil initialize. Enabled PXE. Maybe important to note; before
this the remoteinstall share was RemoteInstall. Now it is "REMINST".
I have boot images for both i386 and x64.
Thanks so much for any help.

    Hi,
You could try the steps in the blogs below(I know that you have tried some steps). Please make sure the RemoteInstall folders have been populated.
    Quote:
Go to the Properties of the DP and uncheck the box "Enable PXE support for clients"
Wait for a short time while Windows Deployment Services uninstalls
    Reboot the DP
Re-enable PXE support and wait while WDS re-installs
WDS usually requires a reboot so you should reboot again
ConfigMgr 2012 / SCCM 2012 Task Sequence fails with BCD error
    Quote:
My initial thoughts were to try and redistribute the boot images but this didn’t work for me. So I removed the PXE role from the DP in question, waited for the success message to appear under the DP monitoring and rebooted the server. After rebooting the
server I enabled the PXE role on the DP, this time leaving Unknown Computer Support enabled. I waited for the success message in the DP monitoring and rebooted the server. After the reboot I made a point of checking the status of the WDS role in Server Manager
(all was well). I also checked the RemoteInstall folder had the same contents as other working DP’s and tried again. Hey presto problem solved!

  • My iMac is getting very slow. What can be done?

My iMac is getting very slow opening Safari or Word, even slower opening iPhoto. I have an anti virus and I have deleted all cookies, emptied the cache ...
What can I do to regain the normal speed? Thanks for your tips.

Hello and Welcome back to Apple Discussions.
One thing many users overlook is maintaining at least 15% of your HDD space free to allow correct operation of the iMac. Back-up data to CD/DVDs and delete large files until you have at least 15% free.
You could also consider a RAM upgrade if you are running more intensive tasks than previously - 256Mb isn't much, and not is an extra 256Mb.
In the extreme, and something I might do every 12 months or so, is to do a complete back-up of all important data and then erase everything and re-install a fresh OS.

  • HP Mini110-1192EO will not get passed F9/F10 boot screen

This problem relates to an HP MINI110-1192EO purchased in Sweden little over a year ago and is therefore out of store warranty.
    1) The HDD crashed and has been replaced.
    2) Installation by recovery from HP Partition is thuis impossible and installing Windows 7 Starter from install media fails.
    3) Windows XP Retail install fails with BSD (Blue Screean of D.)
    4) Installing Linux Ubuntu 11.04 LTS 32 bit worked, then failed on language install hanging on boot screen as described above AGAIN.
    5) Replaced and checked disk, and now I cannot select F9 to boot from CD/DVD or USB
    6) Nor can I select F10 to enter bios.
    7) Unplugged battery to CMOS / BIOS and reset the whole thing. Got the time reset and now it still hangs on boot screen showing F9/F10 all the time without the 5 sec. timer ever coming up.
Had to unplugg battery pack and run ONLY on main power cord to be able to get this far even.
Before this it only showed the HP circular logo and not even F9 / F10 option.
So is this now nothing more than a piece of gloryfied plastic sinker or is there a recovery for the machine at all in sight?

Its a hardware issue, possibly memory but may be a bad motherboard.

  • Hyper-V - Legacy NIC not getting DHCP address at boot, but when OS loads the NIC gets a DHCP address

Hi, I have a strange issue with DHCP.
I have a lab environment on a single Hyper-v 2012 Server.  AD, DNS & DHCP exist on a single virtual machine, I have a flat network 192.168.1.x, all VM's are on this network.  I have authorised DHCP and Setup the scope.
A VM has a legacy adaptor, the legacy nic is configured in the boot order as the first device.
When I boot the machine I do not get a DHCP address, however when the OS boots the Legacy NIC then gets a DHCP address??
I need to use a legacy NIC as I need to PXE boot the VM, however I should get an IP address at boot time, which I don't get.
I have run Wireshark on the DHCP server, I can see the legacy NIC do a "DHCP Discover and the DHCP Server respond with a DHCP Offer" however all communication ends there.  I have disable all firewalls and I see no reason for this not to work.
I have done tis before with no issues but I am unable to get this to work on this server!!!!!

    Hi
According to your description , it is recommended to make sure or do :
In your environment , there is no any other valid DHCP, BOOTP or proxy DHCP offers.
Make sure if the DHCP server is overload.
So suggest to test that creating a new “internal virtual switch” and change the settings of VM which provide DHCP service to connect to the new “virtual switch”.
Then create a new VM use legacy NIC also connect to the new “internal  virtual switch” and try to PXE Boot.
    Hope this helps.

  • Satellite P845T-101 is not getting as far as POST

I have a Satellite P845T-101 that started to run incredibly slowly. I decided to run the Toshiba factory recovery, but for some reason it managed to wipe the recovery partition as it was clearing off the Windows installation.
Anyway, I figured I'd have a look at Windows 10 evaluation edition that I had recently downloaded, while I waited for my new recovery media to arrive in the post. I installed it fine and it worked (mostly) pretty well for a couple of days. That is until I turned it off one night. I switched it back on again the following day and not a lot happened. This is what I got:
    Power button lights up.
Power indicator on front edge lights up.
    Fan starts.
    CAPS LOCK indicator lit permanently.
Unfortunately, that's all I get. I have tried everything I can think of, including removing all forms of power and holding the power button down for 30 seconds, trying the Windows 10 installation disk again (the optical drive spins up, but nothing else happens), and removing the RAM sticks one at a time and trying again, with no change in result.
My own best guess would be the CMOS battery is duff, but upon opening the case (my laptop is over 2 years old, so WELL out of warranty anyway!) I was unable to access it. I took out all the screws I could locate (carefully logging their positions) but was incapable of actually taking out the motherboard, which hides said battery. Why they couldn't have mounted it somewhere you could get to easily, I don't know.
So, does anyone have any other ideas what the problem could be? Can anyone locate a set of instructions for removing the motherboard? I'm fairly capable (generally speaking) with computers, but this is a new one on me!
Any help would be gratefully received.

I’m pretty sure that you as experienced IT expert know very well how all this works. There are many enthusiasts who want to save the money and try to fix something alone.
Can you imagine what kind of chaos could be result of giving such documents to every customer?
For instance someone try to fix something, destroy some electronic component and later goes to the service and say “it is not caused by me”.
You know very well that something like this will not work. When you by a new car you will also not get a maintenance manuals for car repair. On the market there are “universal rules” for most of the electronic products.
You have a problem so either you can try to fix it alone on your own risk or you will ask for professional help and pay for repair.
To be honest I am also trying to fix many things alone but if something is too risky for me I pay and problem will be fixed. If the problem occurs again I can make a claim.
Sorry if you are not happy with my comment, but I just want to write my opinion about that.

  • 8500A ink leaving cartridge, but not getting as far as paper....

    Hi there.
I'm having a real issue trying to get any black ink to reach the paper on my 8500A. It was working fine until my ink ran out about 3 weeks ago, now I need to do some printing I've gone and bought myself a new official cartridge.
After installing (which I've done a million times in the past) and attempting a print the ink seems to be leaving the cartridge, but not getting any further than the springy mechanism it's attached to. I've tried both cleaning the printheads via the printer, and the springy plastic bit with a **bleep** cloth - which gets covered in black ink.
    I've attached two photos...

    Hello @dwfmagik,
Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I see you have recently replaced the black ink cartridge on your HP Officejet 8500A, but you are still not getting any black ink on the paper. I see you have tried to clean the printheads using the cleaning utility as well as inside the machine with no success.

How do I get this working in the installler partition?

  • HT1386 I have IPod touch running iOS 5.1.1 and Windows 7 with iTunes 11.0.4.4. When I connect the IPod to my PC, iTunes recognizes it but before synching can get very far, it is interrupted by "charging not supported on this acc." Now what to do?

I'm having trouble with the wi-fi synch for iTunes and would be happy if I could just synch by the USB cable. With the new iOS, the connection to iTunes seems to get broken every time the dreaded "charging not supported with this accessory" appears, which is only a few seconds into the synch. Since my PC is obviously not an Apple brand charger, IPod won't stop producing this message. Using the Dismiss button doesn't resolve the issue because synch has already stopped. It looks like the hardwire to PC option is now dead.

    - See:

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My 2008 iMac will get to the white boot up screen and has the loading circle and then it will freeze. And will freeze when attempting to boot recovery or bootable disc of Mavericks

Hi there, I have a 2008 iMac 24' 3.06 Intel Duo with 4gb ram. And yesterday it was working totally fine and jolly with no issues. Then I noticed there was an OS X update for Mavericks, so I finally decided to do it, and once it was rebooted it went to like the grey screen and I could move my mouse, just nothing else was there. So I tried to restart it, and then it booted up, but was really laggy, and so I decided to restart it and try again, this time the iMac froze at the login. So I decided to take it apart, pull the 500gb hard drive, connect it to my MacBook Pro, and then formatted it in Disc Utility. From there, I opened the Mavericks installer on my MacBook and then installed it to the iMac's hard drive via usb hard drive enclosement. And once the install of Mavericks was completed, I put the hard drive back into the iMac and tried to boot it. It now boots up to the white screen with the Apple and the loading circle underneath the Apple and then it freezes and doesn't go any further. So then once that happened, I turned it off and tried to boot it into recovery mode. Then it freezes on the screen with the Apple and loading circle below it. Then out of desperation, tried to use a bootable disc of Mavericks to see if i can at least get the iMac to boot up again, with no success. It froze at the same point again. So now I reach out to the Apple Community to see if anyone else has an idea on what I can do or if anyone had this issue and what they did to resolve it. Any help would be great. Thanks.

mddcfilms and Pat75, I'm having precisely this same issue -- no booting but spinning and freezing gear under the Apple logo. Have either of you come to a resolution? Here are my details:
    iMac, Early 2008, 24”, 3.06 GHz, 4GB
September 2013: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GS GPU repaired, HDD replaced with Western Digital 2TB
21 April 2014: Erased HDD with Disk Utility on Mavericks USB; clean installation of Mavericks from the USB. Process completed without issue, including registration process. After a minute or two of poking around, machine shut down immediately (not through the shut-down process).
Since then it will not boot up. Grey screen and Apple logo appear, with gear spinning; the gear freezes, then the machine tries to boot up again. Occasionally I’ll hear “To use English for the main language, press the return key.”
I’ve tried booting into Safe Mode; same gear freeze and restart.
I’ve tried booting to the 10.9 Recovery disk; same gear freeze and restart.
Tried booting from Mavericks USB; same freeze and restart.
Tried booting from 10.6.3 DVD; same freeze and restart.
Ran Apple Service Toolkit (at Stormfront in the UK), which turned up nothing in error.
Started in single-user mode to test HDD and RAM, which are fine.
Started in verbose mode to check logs; some error messages but nothing seems crucial. After the log screen, the grey screen and Apple logo appear, gear spins, and then freeze.
Cannot get to Apple Hardware Test (vintage machine too old?)
Cannot get to Target Disk Mode with my MacBook Pro
Ideas: Potential booting flaw in Mavericks installation. Firmware incompatibility with Mavericks. Hardware issue in Nvidia GPU (known for problems). At the moment I'm hoping that it's a Mavericks installation or firmware issue, though I suspect the Nvidia GPU has blown up on me. These graphics cards are known for being pieces of junk, so I may try installing the lower spec ATI Radeon 2600 GPU if I can find one at a reasonable price.
Anybody else have precisely these problems or have any advice?

  • 20" iMac screen gets very light at the bottom.

I just got a new 20" iMac and the screen appears to get lighter and washed out towards the bottom half of the screen. So bad that for example in the itunes library it is supposed to alternate from blue to white, but at the bottom of the screen it looks completely white. Is my screen defective or is this a common thing?

Both. My 20" iMac at work has the same problem. It is common on the ALU 20" iMacs and yes I would say it's defective. Apple may not agree though.

  • Fios not getting max mbps under boot camp

I have Macbook Pro c2d unibody. I just got Verzion FIOS. Under Mac OS X Snow Leopard I am able to achieve max download and max upload speed. But under boot camp and windows xp sp3 I am only able to get half down, and almost full up. Does anyone know what the issue could be? I've updated my drivers and everything.

I'm using the stock wireless card on the macbook pro and the router is the one that verizon uses...not really sure what brand it is. I subscribed for the 25/25 line. I do get the max speed when I'm hard wired. I can also get max speeds when running under Mac OS X wirelessly.
The funny thing is my brother's laptop (an HP) will get closer to the 25 mbps (max speed) than mine, and he's 2 floors up. My thinking is that it might be a driver issue with boot camp?

  • My new Quad Core iMac Not Getting Along With LG External.

I just got a new Quad Core iMac. It's great, except for one this:
My LG Flatron W1953T insists on a 1360 x 768 resolution. Unfortunately, the Displays control panel does not offer that as an option. The closes is 1280 x 768, which means I have a stretched image, which does not work for reading or looking at photos. The LG does not allow me to change its resolution.
How do I get my way-cool new iMac to offer 1360 x 768 as an output?

    Then

    Integration Directory->Environment->Clear SLD Data Cache
Another way is -go to SXI_CACHE / Goto - Business System -> delete the content
Still , if you are not able to see the Business sytem in the Directory, the just go and check in the SLD. If it exists just change and save it.
