IMAC screen freezes and goes blue....

this just started yesterday - I did not add any programs or update any software recently. I have since added Norton and scanned for viruses.
PROBLEM: my system freezes and the screen goes blue. It does not "wake" back up right away and after it goes blue a few times, it stays blue and I have to hard boot. If I leave the system off for about an hour, I'll get a few hours out of it before this happens.
DIAG: As stated above, I checked for viruses. I also ran all available diagnostics, and am fresh out of new ideas. Since I can't open my iMac without voiding the warrantee, I can't check for any possible burst or bulging capacitors. I disconnected all perperials and still have the same issue.
HYPOTHESIS: I am heavily leaning toward a hardware problem, but before I take the trip to the Apple store, I wanted to reach out to the forum to see if anyone else has had this problem?
This is an early 2006 Intel based 20" iMac that I have been running (24x7) since late August 2006. I never had an issue with my first iMac (pre-Intel).

Unless your issues match a known problem, (wouldn't appear too likely if no result from the Apple Hardware Test) before Apple will accept your iMac for hardware repairs, you'll have to prove it's not a software issue by reinstalling the OS. FWIW, if it's a hardware issue and in particular if the hard drive needs replacing, you'll want to back up your important data anyway, prior to turning it in for any repair.

Hi, my iMac screen freezes and a grey colour slowly creeps down the screen and has a large black square in the centre saying "You must restart your computer by pressing the power button and then pressing it again to restart" or words to that effect in English and about 4 or 5 other languages. I find this happens more frequently when I try to stream movies or tv shows. It also happened when I was trying to download a couple of tv shows from iTunes.
It also sometimes makes a wierd sound a kind of loud noise like a record stuck in a groove. This has happend many times since upgrading to Lion. Plus my wifi will show that it is fully operational, however, I can't use the internet when I wake my computer from sleep mode. I have to click on wifi and turn wifi off then on again before i can use it.
Is Apple going to come out with a fix or are we going to eternally suffer indefinitley.

I don't know why it didn't work before, but here is the most recent errol log. It crashed again about an hour later. If there is a solution, i would greatly appreciate knowing what it is because I can't enjoy using my computer anymore because of these constant crasahes.

Screen freezing and going dark blue?

I have had my Macbook since July 2014, I bought it from the Apple shop, and recently the screen has started freezing spontaneously and going dark blue. Nothing I press affects it, and it comes back after about half a minute or longer. Nothing specific seems to trigger it, sometimes it happens when I am not even touching the laptop.
Also, the Caps Lock doesn't always work, even though there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the button, it only works selectively.
Is this a common problem, what should I do?

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select

Screen freezes and goes white and whiter but works when moved?

okay so my macbook had this issue with the screen where it will freeze and slowly turn brighter with horizontal distortion. when i tilt the screen back or forward it will flick for a few seconds then work normally.
it started about a month ago and it's gradually getting worse and worse. now i actually have to 'stretch' the screen far back to see whats going on.
i believe that it could be a connection issue between the monitor and the logic board but wont take it to a macstore just yet because i still want to find a way to fix it myself.
another thing is- i've been reading some posts and im not the only user with this problem! i've found a good dozen of people with this same problem(occured between 12~18 months after the purchase) and it seems most of them, including myself, was too cheap to get apple care and has expired warranty.
so please! if you know a way to fix this problem at home please please let me know!

It only happens when i use my skype and for a short while after, it doesn't seem like it really effects my computer other wise but it just worries me because I can't afford to pay for software problems and this is the second time my macbook has had a problem. >:( If you find a solution let me know please.

Problems with screen freezing and going blank...

Yesterday I was looking through photos that I had loaded on to my mac book (which I have looked through before and not had any probems) when all of a sudden everything froze and a spinning colour wheel appeared on the screen. I couldn't click on anything at all, I treid to quit the programmes that were not responding but this made no difference and I ended up having to hold down power button and restart. Everything was fine when I switched it back on until today, I was using safari, I didnt touch the screen for a few minutes so the screen went black, which it usually does but normally when I click it goes to the log in screen but this time it was just a black screen nothing happened when I clicked there was just a cursor on the screen?? after about 30 seconds it went back to the usual screen! Obviously this isn't normal but I just wondered if its serious or maybe just something silly that happens sometimes???

You got it in July? Then you should still be able to get a new/replacement iPod if you have to. You wouldn't return it to the store, you would send it to Apple itself. You should try resetting it and then try recharging again. And you should install the CD that came with the iPod. If you already did, you should update it (the iPod software).

Occasionally the screen on the Imac will freeze and the compute has to be restarted at the plug, but when the plug is switched back on the computer only switches back on fully with the screen coming on if you switch a button around the back of the computer, but I remember when using an iMac G4 it would come on automatically when th computer was switched on at the plug. Is there any setting or any software that will automatically restart the computer when the computer is off and I restart it at the plug?

Gateway DX4840 is Experiencing Screen Freezing and Crashing

I am running Windows 7. This problem started about three weeks ago. Occasionally the screen freezes and nothing will unfreeze it except a cold boot. Control-Alt-Delete does nothing. Sometimes the screen goes black. At other times the screen shows
an odd multicolour pattern. Occasionally the computer crashes altogether.
I can not seem to find any hardware problem. Sometimes the computer will run for several days with no difficulty. There is no sign of a virus. I have checked my C drive for problems and found nothing.
I normally run Chrome and sometimes Chrome and Explorer at the same time. Has anybody experienced this problem.

If you just got it back and it isn't fixed or something else is wrong with it take it back and have them do the repair correctly.

My IMAC is freezing and shutting down without explanation . Any thoughts or suggestions? Could this mean the motherboard is about to die? I have considered erasing the hard drive and reloading, but I'm unsure if that will help i.e. if I back up my IMAC using time machine, then I am just relaoding the problem when I use time machine to reaload........
