IMac + Xbox = PAIN

Hey guys, looking for a little bit of help. I've Googled and Yahooed this - but haven't quite found what I'm looking for. (I should also state that I am a step or two above technically challenged. I can get something to work, but I usually need pretty good directions.)
I have an Intel iMac. I have an Xbox 360 with wireless adapter. I have broadband internet.
How do I get them all to work together?!
First I tried setting up the iMac to do take care of it - (I have internet sharing on for my iPhone.) That didn't work.
I thought about picking up an external airport - but from what I can gather on the web, the Xbox doesn't get along with the current version.
I bought a wireless router (Linksys WRT54G) - but the setup disk only works with Windows and it doesn't come with any printed instructions. I managed to fumble my way through setting it up - I think – but wasn't able to figure out how to set it up with password protection. So I took it all apart and am back to square one.
I'm ready to drill a hole in the wall and just cable them together with a switch ... but my wife would rather I didn't. Anyone out there have a setup that works?

If you have the wireless router set up, the Xbox and the iMac should both be able to connect to it. Connect the imac first though.
Just be sure to powercycle the whole network (turn your console off, unplug the router and modem for 30 seconds). Then restore the xbox's network settings to factory defaults, go to wireless mode and then select your network. It should connect after that. If it fails at IP address, then get the airport id from your Imac and put it into your xbox's network settings (in network settings/edit settings/additional settings/alternate MAC address).
BTW, I do customer support for Xbox so I can do this in my sleep. If the idiots that call in can get it to work, I'm sure that you can as well.

  • What do I need to make my iMac + xbox 360 hook up to my current router

I need to find a way to make my iMac wireless and don't know what would be best for my set up. I have cable broadband through a rca router, which then hooks up to my vonage phone device, which then connects to my linksys WRT150N which has an emachines pc through ethernet and a sony laptop wireless connected to it. I want the iMac, which is downstairs to be hooked up to the internet wirelessly if possible and my son also has a wireless adapter for his XBOX 360 that he wants to use as well. I know this sounds tres' complicated and I have given lots of information here but if anyone knows what I should get for this situation, I would be most appreciative! Airport of some sort? Third party stuff that's compatible? I am so confused!

Achieving data rates of 54 Mbps requires that all users have an AirPort Extreme Card and connect to an AirPort Extreme Base Station. If a user of a Wi-Fi Certified 802.11b product joins the network, that user will get up to 11 Mbps and AirPort Extreme users will get less than 54 Mbps. Actual speed will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network and other factors.
imac specification I am guessing your imac g4 is usb 2 and requires an airport extreme wireless card.
The xbox360 wireless adaptor should be able to connect to your router.
To enable the imac to stream photos, movies, music to xbox360 you'll need a piece of software called Connect360. you get that here: http://www.nullriver.com/products/connect360
I'll give you my network setup if yours fails.
Two Apple Extreme N routers, First router hardwired to cable modem and the "bridged" second apple router. The first router also has a HP laserjet 24/7 connected to its usb port and one more hardwire to a pc laptor downstairs(no wireless card in the piece of crap windows machine). Second router hard waired to Vonage and an Apple Express router which I set up to create its own network. The xbox360 upstairs wirelessly connects to the Apple Express. I also have apple TV wireless to first apple Extreme router. Everything works fine and network is extremely fast.

  • Imac & xbox 360

I have been reading about connecting an xbox 360 to the imac via the elgato Eyetv. However it seems as though the eyetv would cause the 360 to lag because of USB. Would the EyeTV 410 still lag even though its connected via firewire? And would there be any way at all to reduce the lag?

You are the 10 milliionth person to ask this question, and I'm in the exact same boat, but with a PS2.
UNFORTUNATELY, Apple has neglected to put any type of input on the 24" iMac's beautiful display, so my suggestion would be to WRITE apple. If enough people write them with this request, they WILL include it. Please write them. PLEASE. Here is a link, to make it easier:

Please, make anybody else you know do the same. If enough people do it, the next iMac WILL have an input!!!!!

  • Airport G5 iMac Xbox 360 wirless problem *Please Help*

Hi - I was hoping that somebody might be able to give me a few hints about how to get Xbox 360live to work on a wireless network with my G5 imac.
I want the Xbox running downstairs with the iMac upstairs. I have tested it wired and it works fine. But wireless I cannot get a connection.
    Here is what I have:
Sky Broadband connection. I have a Sky wireless router. I have enabled airport on my iMac and have put the relevant info into the Internet Connect window. It indicates a strong signal. I have bought an Wireless Adapter for the Xbox 360 and attached it but it does not seem to pick up a signal when I run the test.
I moved the Xbox to the same room as the iMac to see if distance was the issue but again no connection was detected. This is when I wired it directly to the router to see if it worked this way and it does.
I really need wireless though so please if anybody has cracked this problem let me know.
    Cheers
    Martin

Since your iMac is able to get a good wireless signal, you know the 2Wire wireless router is working properly. On the other hand, the XBox wireless adapter under the same conditions sees absolutely no signal. My conclusion from this would be that either (a) the XBox wireless adapter is not functional, or (b) you are making some fundamental error in setup of the adapter.
Since this is a wireless networking problem between two non-Apple products, you might see if product support for your XBox wireless adapter can provide further assistance.

  • Imac is painfully slow. Opening up applications takes 2 to 3 minutes. This occured just after a failed attempt at downloading a TV episode on Itunes.

I was downloading a TV episode in Itunes when it froze. The download was not completed. I had to use the emergency shut down processes and then restart my Imac. Everything now takes 2 to 3 minutes to open up. I have access to all my applications,as far as I know,  but everything including my internet is painfully slow. Almost like itues is still running in the background or something.

Go to user>Applications>Utilities>Activity Monitor and check to see what applications are using all your memory.  You can quit the offending app in Activity Monitor - please let us know what happens,

  • Internet (wifi) on new 27" iMac is painfully slow!

Just got a new 27" iMac this weekend. The wifi seems to be painfully slow. I've looked through other forums and have reset the DNS to 8.8.8.8, which seems to have helped a little. It's just so disappointing to have this beautiful, new machine be sooo much slower than older computers. All suggestions welcome; thanks!

Not specific to a slow wifi connection, but wifi problems in general seem to crop up a lot on here and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a 'one fix' solution.
However, sometimes any one of the following might help resolve issues although, unfortunately, not always. In no particular order:
Check wifi security - if it's WEP change it to WPA or WPA2 (preferably, as it's more secure)
Change the wifi channel on the router
Create a new Network Location: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5289
    Reboot the router
Also take a look at this link and the links within the article for other ideas. They mainly reference Lion, but still seem to be relevant to Mountain Lion:

  • Imac is painfully slow

I have a iMac early 2008, 2.66 intel Core 2, with 2 GB RAM. I'm running OS X 10.8.2. I just ordered RAM to get up to 4GB, so this may help but oh my goodness it's slow. Any advice on how to get it to run faster besides shelling out money for a newer one?

You didn't say if you have installed the RAM or not, if you haven't then you should see some performance increase however 4GB is really the bare minimum in most  peoples opinion for running Mountain Lion. I'd recommend upgrading to 6 GB (yes your machine will accommodate 6GB) and then also use Activity Monitor to read System Memory and determine how much RAM is being used to see if you have any apps using too much RAM.

  • How can I remove Lion? Since the upgrade, my 2011 iMac is painfully slow :(

Any help is sincerely appreciated. My iMac is my primary computer at work and is slowing me down. It ran Snow Leopard beautifully, but it just can't handle Lion. It's a 2011 27 inch model.
    Cheers
    Jeremy

I updated last week and have had severely degraded performance ever since. It takes around 15 seconds to load launch pad, then even longer for the app icons to appear. If iTunes is playing, playback stutters constantly and it takes a long time for the next song to come on. It's a new machine so there's not much to index, I only have 1 folder with some photoshop files and an iTunes music folder. The only non-standard software I have is Microsoft Office 2008 and Adobe Photoshop CS5.

  • IMac isrunning painfully slow....

I have repaired permissions, run Disk Warrior, resest cache etc. I am curious about the Memory section of the Activity Monitor. I do not know how to interpret it but hope someone can tell me if this screen shot suggests any explanation?  If so, is there any way to improve the speed without purchasing more memory?
The picture was taken with only safari running. I have not had troubles until the last month or so and don't feel like I have changed my usage - did upgrade to Mavericks....
    Thanks in advance!
    Karen
    Mavericks - 10.9.2

DO NOT buy RAM from Best Buy. I woudl recommend using OWC (www.macsales.com) or Crucial. Of the two I prefer OWC. Here is a link to the video I spoke of, you will note this is from OWC. Your machien can accomodate up to 6GB, I would recommend upgrading it to 6GB.

  • XBOX, PSP, WPA and Airport Express

Hello, can someone help me to define how to create an Airport Express wireless network that can connect at the same time my iMac, XBOX 360 and a PSP in a WPA security environment? So far I have gotten my iMac connected, and both the XBOX and PSP can see my wireless network but somehow cannot connect.
When I remove the WPA, the PSP is able to connect (have not tried this with the XBOX), but with the WPA (even though I put the same password I defined on the iMac)it just doesnt work (although as I mentioned, the PSP ans XBOBX do see the network.)
If this is usefull I can tell you I have 2 Airport Express, one funcioning as a base and the other as an extension (in order to reach the whole house).
    tks

After some extensive searching, I found this article and it worked out well for me. I'm posting it so that perhaps others who have fought with the same sort of issues may potentiall resolve theirs as well.
Unfortunately, on my model the BEF11WS4, WPA + WDS is not supported so I'm back to 128 bit WEP. I doubt I will be purchasing Linksys products again in the future.

  • New iMac wifi slow on Airport network, not on Fastweb

I just replaced our old iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33 GHz, Airport Extreme Card 802.11 a/b/g/n - OS 10.6.8) a new refurbished iMac 27-inch (late 2012) (OS 10.8.4).  The new computer works great, except with wifi - it is painfully slow on our Airport network, even though the old iMac still runs perfectly fast on that network.
We have two wifi networks in our house (in Rome, Italy).  Our internet comes in through the Italian company Fastweb, and its wireless router limits us to only 3 devices.  Both computers have fast internet connectivity when we hook up one (or both) to our Fastweb network (802.11g).  But that's not a good long-term solution because we need our main computer to talk wirelessly with other devices (like our printer and speakers running off an Airport Express booster).
So for the last three years we have also had an Airport base station (802.11n) based off the Fastweb network. We use the Airport network to connect most of our devices (including iMac, MacBooks, printer, iPads, iPhones, and two Airport Extremes -- one for speakers in the next room, and another to boost the signal throughout the house).  For some reason, the new iMac is painfully slow when it connects to our Airport network -- it can take 2 minutes to load a web page on the Airport network, which takes 2 seconds to load on the Fastweb network.  I would've thought that the problem lay with our Airport network, except that it's still plenty fast with our other computers.  The only problem seems to be the new iMac talking to the Airport network.
Could the problem lie with the Airport Extreme card in the new iMac?  It is a refurbished machine, not new.  Should I just be taking the machine into the nearest Apple Store?  We did buy AppleCare . . . .
Thanks very much for any ideas!

  • Home Hub 5 & imac wi-fi

I just got infinity2 installed the other day i have all my devices imac, xbox, tv and sky box plugged in with ethernet cables so they are all fine get 75meg through them. only problem i have is the onther imac in my brothers room only gets about 15-18 meg on wi-fi i have tried a few of the steps turning off smart wirless turning off the parental controls changing the wireless channel separating both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz so they are each on there own networks and nothing. its works fine on the windows laptops and desktop just seems to be apple products that dont work well on wireless. I was just wondering if i got the BT dual band USB and used that in my brothers imac if this would solve the problem, not a major issue would just stop him moaning at me about it.

If you haven't already done it, turn off "Smart Set Up" it can cause problems with Apple devices.

  • No audio when airplaying with iMac

I'm working with a 21.5" iMac (Mid-2011) and after installing Airport Extreme I am not getting any audio sound watching the Youtube video I am playing using appletv out of my TV. Note I am switching to AppleTV. Any suggestions? Please help.

OK, I have my iMac, XBOX, and Blu-Ray DVD wired into my AirPort Extreme. And then I have my Apple TV HDMI'd into my TV. My theatre home system I have an audio optical cable going from the TV to the BDVD. As I stated earlier on my iMac I went into the preferences-sounds and I click the output tab where it shows what is selected and I see that my Headphones is highlighted, when I attempt to select Apple TV it goes back to headphones. I unplugged the headphone jack connected in the back of my iMac but nothing.

  • STERAM I MOVIE TO XBOX 360

If i had a 1080p camcorder either dv or sd
could i create a file in imovie09 or quicktime that i could stream to the xbox
i imagine it would have to be m4v or mp4
whats the best quality file i could get from the imac-xbox-hdtv

The Apple 23" is 1920 x 1200. You are sending it only 1920 x 1080, so there are 120 lines missing. 1920 x 1080 is not a supported resolution, so you are lucky that it worked at all. The supported resolutions (1920 x 1200, 1280 x 800, and 1024 x 640) are 16:10 ratios. 1920 x 1080 is 16:9. To fill the screen it would have to crop the sides of the image or distort the image by stretching it vertically. The other options are to leave a blank stripe at the top, leave a blank stripe at the bottom, or leave smaller blank stripes at the top and bottom.
You seem to be getting the best you can without distortion, or losing part of the image.
