IMacs won't connect to the internet through a Double Router Network.

Hey guys,
I have 4 computers in the house, 1 is an XP system, 2 are iMacs running latest version of Leopard, the last is my Macbook Pro running latest Snow Leopard. The reason for the two router solution is as follows: The connection where the modem and router were previously was unable to broadcast a signal to the other side of the house (concrete). So I placed a wired router on the end where the modem is, and through cat cables placed in the walls, placed a wireless router on the other side of the house.
I have already set up the wireless router to become a wireless access point by turning the operating mode to router instead of gateway, and changed the internal ip to 192.168.2.x. All in all my macbook connects to the internet just fine through the router now turned access point and picks up the IP of 192.168.1.x (from the wired router directly connected to the modem), but the iMacs are picking up 192.168.2.x ips which have no connection to the internet.
I have tried to renew the DHCP lease (which should pull the 192.168.1.x since the wireless router has DHCP turned off) but it still wants to connect to 192.168.2.x. Any ideas or solutions to fix this?

hi i have read your problem but i can be wrong... because suppose to be your system have working before. i think can exist conflicts between modem ip address and router ip address. first disconnect your modem from your router put in your internet explorer 192.168.1.1 and if your router has password live user name area in blank. and put in password area admin and push return. when appear the setup menu ( must to be in basic setup menu by default) search the text Local IP Address 192.168.1.1 and let change for 192.168.2.1 and do click in save settings button turn off your modem your router and connect everything and turn on them. check if you get access internet service.

  • My brand new iMac won't connect to the internet - the Air is fine?

    Hi All,
Loved my Air so much I bought an Imac today to do some serious work - but it won't connect to the internet.  It won't load any external webpages, the wireless symbol in the menu bar is at full strength and in settings it says its connected to the modem.  Its also finally recognising local time.  It can also 'see' my Macbook Air in the 'Migration Assistant' but doesn't connect.  The Air can't find the Imac in the 'migration assistant' and just spins.  I've rebooted the modem, turned both on and off, checked  Safari settings eg extensions (none loaded - its new today).
Essentially I've not been able to view a webpage with the new Imac at all - very frustrating and disappointing. (The Air was a breeze to set up).
I'm not very technical so does anyone have any suggestions?  Or do I just return it?  TIA.

  • My imac won't connect to the internet, but safari still works

I just bought my first iMac about a week ago and it was working fine
then for no reason my programs slowly stopped connecting to the internet such as iChat
    but my Safari still works.
how do i fix this problem?

hockeyman68, Welcome to the discussion area!
If Safari is still able to browse web pages, your iMac is still connected to the internet.
Perhaps you should visit the iChat discussion area... and provide a lot more detail on what you are experiencing.

  • My macbook won't connect to the internet even though my router/connection is fine

Two days ago my computer was fine. Since yesterday it won't connect to the internet. I've been in touch with my service provider and determined that my router is fine and everything is correctly connected. I've rebooted my modem, restarted my computer, taken dhcp offline and put it back on, repaired disk permissions... Not necessarily in that order but nothing had work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

We've determined, then, that you use your cable rather than wifi for your signal. Approach this in an organized way:
    1. ISP. Check your ISP's webmail to make sure you can send and mail email using the webmail interface. If you can, that means your ISP can still send and receive emails - if only on webmail. Useful if your normal email is malfuctioning, like now.
    2. Modem. Unplug and reconnect your modem, and make sure the connection is snug.
    3. Cables. Make sure all of your cables and plugs are connected; it's easy to disconnect an ethernet cable while cleaning, or after random kicking.
    4. Connection wizard. Go to Mail/Window/Connection Doctor, and take down the results.
Most of the time, you can trace the problem after following these steps. If there's still no luck, provide detailed info on your results.

  • We are on holiday in Mexico. Our iPad has no problem connecting to the Internet through a subscription WiFi network. But, both of our laptops can not with the same password. What can we try?

We are on holiday in Mexico. Our iPad2 has no problem connecting to the Internet through our hotel's subscription WiFi network. But, both of our macbookpros can not with the same password. What can we try?
We can join the network, but can not access the Internet. The password is correct. We have tried network assistant and diagnostics, restarting the laptops, re-joining the network. Our iPhone 4s also works all the time.
Same location. Signal strength is good.

Since I couldn't figure out a way to edit our original post, here's another potential clue.
Our laptops, when in System Preferences>Network, say "WiFi has the self-assigned IP address of XXXXXXXXX and will not be able to connect to the Internet".
Strangely, my six year old MBP running OS 10.6.8 accessed the Internet straight away, just by opening Safari to my home page. My wife's six month old MBP running OS 10.7.2 could not.

  • My iMac won't connect to the internet.

We just bought an iMac and it won't connect to our existing internet network.  My daughter, who just bought an iPod touch, was able to connect to the internet and our current PC works fine, so we know the problem isn't with the internet.  The iMac picks up the wireless network signal, but it won't accpet the network security key, which is correct.  Help!

Call AppleCare (you have 90 days of free support) and they can coach you through it. When I got my first Mac I had a similar issue, at the time I was using a Belkin router. What I was told by Belkin was I need a * symbol to proceed the password. So if the password is something like
ABCD1234 change it on the iMac to *ABCD1234
I've since changed to an Apple Airport Extreme that works perfectly.

  • Tray-loading iMac won't connect to the internet.

I'm trying to get my 266 MHz G3 iMac on the internet through internet sharing I wired it to my Digital Audio G4 (G4 has an airport card and gets to the internet from an 802.11g router) with an ethernet cable but the iMac says that it has NO IP ADDRESS and can't connect to the internet. What am I doing wrong? I did all the correct settings in the internet sharing panel on my G4. My iMac runs OS X 10.3 Panther.

I believe both your Macs are old enough so that you need to use a +crossover cable+ if you are connecting the two Macs directly.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2274
If you happen to have an Ethernet hub/switch, putting it between the two Macs will +reverse the connection+ so you can use two regular Ethernet cables, instead of one crossover cable.

  • Imac won't connect to the internet but other devices will

I've had a imac for the last 2 years I've installed boot camp so half pc half mac
Trouble is my mac won't pick up the internet it says it's connected but no internet access i use the internet provided by my land lady
My old pc and iPhone pick up the internet with no problems I think it's something to do with the built in wifi
    Any suggestions
    Kind regards
    Craig

Not sure what version of OS X you are running, but some of the following suggestions have helped some users:
    WiFi Problems:
Wifi problems seem to crop up a lot on here and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a 'one fix' solution.
However, sometimes any one of the following can help although, unfortunately, not always. In no particular order:
Check wifi security - if it's WEP change it to WPA or WPA2 (preferably, as it's more secure)
Change the wifi channel on the router
Create a new Network Location: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5289
    Reboot the router
Also take a look at this link and the links within the article for other ideas. They mainly reference Lion, but still seem to be relevant to Mountain Lion and perhaps Mavericks:

  • WRT54GS won't connect to the internet through my wired computer

So, basically, I've had this router for awhile now, it used to work just fine, and I haven't changed any settings or anything of that sort.
But suddenly it decides that it doesn't want to connect to the internet anymore. I've tried troubleshooting it like a hundred times now. I've looked at the FAQs for help but none of them seem to partain to my problem because they mostly talk about the wireless connection not working. Which I'm sure mine would if it could work on the wired connection.
There's no problems with my ISP, when I connect my computer directly to the modem my internet works fine but when I try to connect through the router it just doesnt work at all.
So, I really dont know what the problem is but could you please help me?
ALSO...the power light in the back blinks too and I've tried doing the firmware update but it didnt work..I might've had the wrong DNS Servers, but I didn't really know where to go to get that, the walkthrough didn't exactly make that clear to me.
In short, my internet wont connect when using the router. Help?

  • IMac won't connect to the internet

I am having trouble connecting to the internet. Network Status says "built in ethernet is currently active and has the IP address 10.1.1.2. You are connected to teh internet via built-in ethernet"... but I can't connect. Until recently, these same settings worked with my Macbook. Now I'm having the same problem with it. Apple has no idea. I sometimes get a pop-up that says my network settings have been changed by an application.Any ideas?

Disconnect the Ethernet cable or turn off Wi-Fi.

  • My PC won't connect to the internet through the Time Capsule

I hope someone can help. I have a 4th Gen, 2TB Time Capsule with the following connected via WiFi: MacBook Pro, iPad, iPod, (2) iPhone 5, Apple TV, Playstation 3, HP all-in-one PC, and a printer.
Up until a couple days ago all of them worked perfectly. I'm not sure what happened (I didn't adjust any settings) but suddenly ALL non-Apple products will connect to the Time Capsule but won't access the internet. It is very frustrating and I can't find anything that has helped yet. They will work proper if I connect using an ethernet cable but not via WiFi like they used to.
I have unplugged and replugged the modem and Time Capsule, done a full system restore on my PC, gone through the settings on my Time Capsule (not sure what I'm looking for).
Hope someone has heard of this and can give me some advice. Thank You.

Did you happen to upgrade to 7.6.3 on the TC?
That would be pretty funny if the new firmware causes all non-apple wireless products to drop out.
I think we could get a very big fight going over such a thing.
Although I don't know the reason.. apart from that dreadful firmware.
Apple names are a problem.. why it should hit now after working fine I am not sure.
But you need to do a full factory reset to the TC.
Then give it all SMB compatible names.. (ie comply with windows networking).
That means short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
That will include TC network name, wireless names (different name for 5ghz) and hard disk share name.
You should use WPA2 Personal security. With a pure alphanumeric passkey of 10-20 characters.
Use fixed wireless (radio in Apple Speak) channels. For 2.4ghz there are only 3 non-overlapping. 11, 6, 1 and test them in that order. 5ghz doesn't usually matter so much but test down low.. say channel 40 and up high 157.. or ones near that in your country.
Tell me if you still have issues..
And go back to 7.6.1 firmware. Hold down the option key and select previous firmware if you are on 7.6.3

  • Won't connect to the internet

my imac won't connect to the internet/server, however, at&t verified that my service is fine. how can i connect?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Appletv recognizes my wireless network but won't connect to the internet. can't restore to factory settings

appletv won't connect to the internet, but recognizes my wireless network. ip address starts with 169.. somethings not right. never had a problem with appletv and home sharing until the update that required a change in my apple id

An IP address starting with 169 indicates you are not properly connected to your network. Try restarting your router and try to connect again. if the problem persists you may be suffering from interference.
