Image map bug in RH7

Hi,
I've noticed that sometimes after I create a rectangle over
an area in the image, the rectangle is not visible. To see the
rectangle, I save the topic. Close and re-open the topic. Now, I
can see the rectangle, and assign a link, add a screen tip, etc.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
FMnRH

Good review, David. Thanks for the analysis!

  • Image Map Bug in Dreamweaver CS4

I've included a video sample of Dreamweaver's inability to
draw polygonal hotspots in Design view on an image map. The image
is inside an absolutely positioned div tag. After clicking the
first corner, the drawing tool is deactivated. A second click to
create the next corner point selects the underlying image.
In this video sample, I'm using Dreamweaver CS4 on a MacBook
Pro with a 2.4 GHz Intel processor and OS X 10.5.6. The image is
actually a transparent PNG. I'm very careful to click on an opaque
area, but that shouldn't make a difference.
The workaround is to open the image in a blank HTML file,
create the polygonal hotspots there and then copy and paste the
code back into the original HTML page. Adobe should really consider
    fixing this.

  • Bug Report: DW CS5.5 Crashes Every Time On An Image Map

I am posting this in lieu of contacting Adobe support. I went to my account to send Adobe a bug report and was told I needed to contact support via phone. That's pretty crappy. As a licensed user who's owned it less than three months, there's no direct path to tell you guys that your software is broken?
Here's the deal: I am working on an HTML landing page with one image map attached to one image. Literally, every time I make a modification to the code near the image (tied to the image map) then click into the live preview window, Dreamweaver CS5.5 crashes like a 70-year old on a bar of soap on the floor of the shower. It crashes hard. My only relief is to save the file before clicking into the live preview window. That's my only workaround to the problem.
But I'm left amazed that I can crash it every single time over an image map, flicking from the code to the preview pane. You would think that at version 11.5, a minor thing like that wouldn't hemorrage the supposed creme de la creme of web design software.
Here's the code I'm editing that causes it to crash:

  • Does anyone know how to save / preserve image maps when updating graphics?

    Hello all,
I'm currently working on a RH7 HTML project, which I've designed to be used in support of a software application.
Some of the application's dialogue boxes have quite complex multi-tabbed GUIs, so when it comes to describing their functionality, you often end up with a long list below the graphic image. What this means of course, is that the user is forever scrolling up and down to make reference between the GUI and the explanatory text.
I hit upon an idea I'd used previously, whereby I created popups to multiple image map hotspots. It works like a dream and the client and users really like the concept - but there's a snag (apparently).
Because the application is still in development. some of those GUIs are (and will continue to) change. No problem with that either - until I try and insert the updated graphic. Poof !! All my hotspots disappear . . .
Surely I'm not alone in trying this approach and there must be some way of preserving the hotspots?
    Any suggestions?
Bob (in a UK time zone)

    Hi there
It sounds like you are using the standard methods of inserting an image. Don't do that!
All you need to do in these cases is to use Windows Explorer to save the updated image using the same file name and replacing the former image. When you do this your other data will remain intact. If the new image is a different size, just right-click it inside the RoboHelp HTML editor and choose Reset Size. You also may need to tweak your hotspots if things shifted some.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Image Map Issue

I have recently converted my Robohelp for Word project to HTML, more or less successfully.  As expected, all of the links that existed in the Winhelp project that originated from a bitmap, broke during the conversion process.  I'm in the process of re-establishing these links, which is proving to be a very long process due to the fact that every time I right click on an image map to access its "properties," it takes nearly 90 seconds for the properties window to appear!  Is there any way to speed this up?  This happens even when I create a totally new image map on a new image in a new topic.  Currently, all of my HTM files are in one huge folder... if, at this point, i created a folder for each htm file, would that possibly speed things up, or would that totally mess up my project?  I'm on Robohelp 7.  Thanks.

    Hi there
Splitting the project into folders will likely help the issue. I think the slowdown occurs because all the topics and images and whatnot have to be read in so they are able to appear in the list. If you have several folders with fewer topics you should be better off.
One caveat though. ONLY move the files and folders from inside RoboHelp HTML. If you sneak behind its back and begin moving things about, you are likely to make RoboHelp wander around all bug eyed looking for things that aren't there any more!

  • Create PDF From Web Page Does Not Create Image Maps Properly

I have a website that contains image maps. When I "Create PDF From Web Page", these image maps are not rendered properly. From what I can tell, this is a BUG within Acrobat, and I'm hoping that people can confirm this for me.
I created a test page at http://www.quantumdynamix.net/clients/image-map-test/. I placed the images maps my manually coding the coordinate information, so the maps are PRECISELY placed exactly over the squares. Each image map navigates to an anchor corrisponding to the number on the red square.
When I created the PDF using the "Create PDF From Web Page" feature, the image maps are rendered improperly. This file can be viewed at http://www.quantumdynamix.net/clients/image-map-test/ImageMapTest.pdf. To view the outlines of the image maps, please select "Tools" -> "Advanced Editing" -> "Link Tool". You can see the outlines are substantially incorrect.
Please confirm that other can replicate this problem. Any solution to this issue would be very helpful!

I tested this in Acrobat X and the exact same issue occurs
    http://www.quantumdynamix.net/clients/image-map-test/ImageMapTest-AcrobatX.pdf
This has to be considered a legatimate bug, especially since IMAGE MAPS is listes as one of the supported HTML features via the help files

  • Image map areas not dynamic

I have created a complexer version of the imageMenu, http://www.phatfusion.net/imagemenu/, which allows the active shapes to be any shape, not only rectangular, see http://jrvproducts.nl/ . This works great in all browser except safari, not in windows, neither on Mac.
The menu works with a single transparent overlay image which has image map areas (see source if you like. The map start at line 37). These areas are updates onDomReady and also when the menu is in motion by calculating the coordinates and setting the 'coords' attribute of every area. Setting this attribute doesn't seem to work in safari. I believe safari 3.0 on windows did do it onDomready, but not after page load. Now, in 3.1, the 'coords' aren't even being set onDomready anymore.
To see the 'coords' updating in action, see http://www.saulmade.nl/forum/slideMenu/ . Here I enabled the 'draw areas' option I've built for testing purposes. (It's actually drawing the shapes on canvas, but used the same coordinates as by which the areas are updated)
This looks to me like a bug, but perhaps anyone has a better explanation?
Can I submit issues to Apple?

darn, no-one seems to know an answer
To get this a bit further, or at least under the attention of the developers, *is there any way I can submit issues to Apple?*

  • Image Maps not available?

I have RH8 and noticed the html "image map" functionality does not work in a generated a Word document and/or a PDF document.  Can someone confirm this is correct?  I looked around for some kind of setting, but I can't find one.

    Hi there
This would seem to make sense that Image Maps would fail to convert to a medium primarily intended for printing.
If you feel it should operate differently, please advise Adobe via the Wish Form. (Link is in my sig)

  • Problem while creating text pop-ups in image maps

    Hi,
I need to create a text pop-up on an image, on mouse hover. I tried creating bookmarks to link with the image map and it worked. The problem is when I click on the text pop-up in the image, it goes to the bookmark (which is created in a separate topic), but I don't want it to go to the bookmark which is in a different topic. Is it possible to stay on the image itself without going to the bookmark?
    Regards,
    Latha

    Hello again
The option I mentioned would indeed work inside a CHM.
There is possibly a way to accomplish what you are wanting, but to do it would require lots of JavaScripting. The simple fact you are asking if it can be done suggests that you aren't comfortable working with JavaScript.

  • Can I use an Image Map to link to an SLP

I am working on a project starting with the Desktop Catalog with Homepage layout, and have created 4 additional generic SLPs.  I added an image to the homepage slp and would like to use an image map to link to the 4 generic slps that I created.  But I get an error when running the site and clicking on any of the image map links.  Clicking on the link opens a new window with a "This program cannot display the webpage".  At times I have gotten a script error when clicking the link rather than the This program... message, but I cant seem to replicate that at the moment.
I am able to do a simple hyperlink on the image to an slp, but this, of course, only gives me the ability to link to one of my additional pages....
    Any ideas?
    John

I did finally figure this out...  it is possible to map to an slp file from an image map...  the trick has to do with how slp files work in RH,and makes sense, sort of, once I got it to work.  When you generate html5, htm files are generated fromthe slps.
When you link to an slp file in a regular hyperlink, during the generation of the site, RH translates the slp refernce to the htm file reference that is generated from the slp.  But for some reason, i.e., a bug IMHO, with an image map, when you link to an slp file, RH does not convert this slp reference to the .htm reference (as it does with normal, non-image map hyperlinks.
So the way to get this to work, is when you create the image map link, put in the htm file name that will be created during generation.
    John

  • Unable to Create Image Map Hotspot

I've got a GIF image inserted into a RoboHelp HTML 8 topic and am trying to create multiple image map hotspots on the graphic. I successfully created the first hotspot (a rectangular one). When I try to create the second, the crosshair cursor displays, but when I drag with the mouse, it fails to draw a box outline. When I release the mouse, nothing happens.
This behavior is erratic. Sometimes, if I close and reopen the topic, I can draw a hotspot. Other times, if I complete exit and re-launch RoboHelp, I can draw a hotspot. Is this a bug, or is there something I can do to make it work more effectively?

Do you have many other hotspots in this topic?
Do you have other dynamic HTML in this topic (Related Topics, See Also, drop-down text, etc.)?
Have you been performing a lot of Cut/Paste operations prior to experiencing this issue?
Have you ever hit multiple keys in this topic and caused a RH crash?
RH places numerically identified data in the <HEAD> section for dynamic HTML entities, in addition to the related, numerically matched code that resides in the BODY section. At some point, these numeric matches can get corrupted (the old fat fingers causing a crash trick, for example). The only cure to that is to delete all the HEAD and BODY data, and then start over. Sorry.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • IE 6.0 & Image maps

I have a simple page with only AP elements that works fine
    with IE 7.0 and Firefox.
My menu is comprised of AP elements with an image and an
image map on it. Simple Show/Hide Elements and Swap Image
    behaviours do the trick.
However, IE 6.0 users report this: They see the visible APs
when the page load but not the image map (their cursor doesn't even
switch to a hand when they hover) so nothing works.
At Browser Compatibility I found the Z-index bug and fixed it
by applying Z-index to all elements. IE 6.0 still ignores the image
    maps though.. Why?
    Thank you in advance.

PS: All I am getting as errors is these two lines in the
    default.css "div {unicode-bidi:bidi-override;}
span {unicode-bidi:bidi-override;}" which result in an
    Unsupported property: unicode-bibi
Is this related and frankly, what is it?

    > What exactly do you mean I am on the wrong foot already?
    1. Your home page contains no readable text. This is usually
    regarded as
an SEO blunder. Devoting the time and effort to create such a
    page is
really a waste, as it presents one more hurdle between your
    visitor and the
information they seek - they will bookmark the inner pages,
    and never see
this page again. And it's a waste of your most valuable SEO
    tool - the home
page. With no readable text, it cannot be adequately spidered
    by the SE
    bots.
    2. You have used the unicode-bidi style in your stylesheet.
    Are you sure
you need that? Read this to see what it does -
    http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/css/properties/intl/unibidi.htm
    3. Your entry page, being all graphics, doesn't suffer from
    text resizing.
This is good an bad. It's good in the sense that since you
    have used only
absolute positioning, you will not experience the usual
    problem with text
content resizing. It's bad in the sense that I explained
    above, and also in
an accessability sense - those who need to resize the text to
    read the page
will not be able to do so. In other words, you have lost
    accessability on
    this page.
In general, using absolute positioning as a primary layout
    method is a big
    mistake. Read this -
    http://apptools.com/examples/pagelayout101.php

  • Can a down-level stage use an image map?

Just wondering if I can make a part of my down-level static image clickable using an image map?

  • Image Maps link not working in Acrobat 8 3D PDFs generated from RoboHelp 7

All of my hyperlinks work when I just generated my RoboHelp
project to PDF using RoboHelp 7 with the new Adobe Technical
Communications Suite (with Acrobat 8 3D). However, the links to
topics within the document didn't maintain from the image maps. I
had originally created flowcharts in Microsoft Visio, exported then
as .gifs, and imported them into topics in RoboHelp X5. Then I
created image maps from the boxes to topics in the RoboHelp
project. When I converted my project to RoboHelp 7 and generated
the PDF, all the links work great, except I don't get the
finger-pointing cursor when I hover over the boxes in the
flowcharts like I do with regular hyperlinks. Can someone please
    tell me why? Thanks!

Sigh... and this is why no one like to work with newbies...
Thank you for your help. I am embarrased to admit that this was the issue.
