Unable to Create Image Map Hotspot

I've got a GIF image inserted into a RoboHelp HTML 8 topic and am trying to create multiple image map hotspots on the graphic. I successfully created the first hotspot (a rectangular one). When I try to create the second, the crosshair cursor displays, but when I drag with the mouse, it fails to draw a box outline. When I release the mouse, nothing happens.
This behavior is erratic. Sometimes, if I close and reopen the topic, I can draw a hotspot. Other times, if I complete exit and re-launch RoboHelp, I can draw a hotspot. Is this a bug, or is there something I can do to make it work more effectively?

Do you have many other hotspots in this topic?
Do you have other dynamic HTML in this topic (Related Topics, See Also, drop-down text, etc.)?
Have you been performing a lot of Cut/Paste operations prior to experiencing this issue?
Have you ever hit multiple keys in this topic and caused a RH crash?
RH places numerically identified data in the <HEAD> section for dynamic HTML entities, in addition to the related, numerically matched code that resides in the BODY section. At some point, these numeric matches can get corrupted (the old fat fingers causing a crash trick, for example). The only cure to that is to delete all the HEAD and BODY data, and then start over. Sorry.
Good luck,
Leon

  • Cannot adjust attributes or resize image map hotspots

Can't figure this one out. It has worked fine in all prior
versions of Dreamweaver, but for some reason CS3 isn't liking my
    image map hotspots.
I can't select the hotspots in an image map in design view
and adjust their attributes in the properties window, or resize
them in the design view. When I select a hotspot, Dreamweaver
immediately selects "Multiple CSS-P Elements". So if I try to
adjust the size of a hotspot it thinks I'm dragging and dropping
the "Multiple CSS-P Elements" and not the hotspot. I can't edit the
hotspot attributes either because the properties of the hotspot do
not stay open; it flashes to the properties of the "Muliple CSS-P
    Elements."
I've tried creating a new document and recreating the image
and hotspots, and they work fine. So it must be the way my image is
coded, nested in divs, the CSS applied to the image, or something
that isn't allowing me to adjust my hotspots.
    Any ideas?

Is the image carrying these hotspots within a parent
    container that has the
overflow style set by any chance?

  • Unable to create image buffer after RAM preview

Running into an odd and frustrating error. Built a comp using the new Ray-traced 3D renderer and now I'm regretting being an early adopter big time with all the problems I've been encountering with it. The latest comes whenever I do a longer RAM preview in an attempt to watch the whole duration of my comp. It will get to about 170 frames or so, at which point I've interrupted by pressing spacebar because I don't need to see all the way to the end of my work area (around 220 frames). It'll play the RAM preview back fine, and even loop it, but as soon as I stop playback, I get this error message: "After Effects warning: Unable to create image buffer." There's only one button: "okay" and as soon as I click it the same error pops up again and it will never go away, forcing me to close AE from the task manager. I've taken to saving before every RAM preview like I used to do with Flash before previewing my buggy swfs for fear I'll lose all my work after previewing. Any ideas about what might be causing this?
Some more details about my comp:
    1920x1080 @ 29.97
    Ray-traced 3D
About 70 3D layers (I'm guessing this is my downfall - new renderer not designed for this many layers?)

Yeah, some buffer is very likely not flushing when you interrupt the preview and then there is no more memory on the graphics hardware. Consider setting the work area and your preview options to use only the work area. if it finishes the preview "correctly", it may not suffer the issue. Beyond that - raytracing doesn't/ shouldn't care about the number of items. The math is such, that it makes no difference whether you render a million polygons or just one. Of course there are still limitations due to the GPU dependency, but I doubt you ever truly exhaust the cards' geometry buffers. Compared to pixel data that is a small amount...

  • Can't create image map

    Hi there,
I'm trying to create a simple image map in Dreamweaver and haven't been able to make it work. Full disclosure, I only used the program for the first time today and have little web design background. I tried following this tutorial: Dreamweaver Help | Image maps but it didn't help unfortunately.
When I select the image in the document window, I don't see any of the hot spot creator buttons. When I select the code for the image in the code window, they appear, but I cannot select them to create the hotspots. I assume there is something very basic that I'm not doing, but it wasn't explained in the tutorial.
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Create PDF From Web Page Does Not Create Image Maps Properly

I have a website that contains image maps. When I "Create PDF From Web Page", these image maps are not rendered properly. From what I can tell, this is a BUG within Acrobat, and I'm hoping that people can confirm this for me.
I created a test page at http://www.quantumdynamix.net/clients/image-map-test/. I placed the images maps my manually coding the coordinate information, so the maps are PRECISELY placed exactly over the squares. Each image map navigates to an anchor corrisponding to the number on the red square.
When I created the PDF using the "Create PDF From Web Page" feature, the image maps are rendered improperly. This file can be viewed at http://www.quantumdynamix.net/clients/image-map-test/ImageMapTest.pdf. To view the outlines of the image maps, please select "Tools" -> "Advanced Editing" -> "Link Tool". You can see the outlines are substantially incorrect.
Please confirm that other can replicate this problem. Any solution to this issue would be very helpful!

I tested this in Acrobat X and the exact same issue occurs
    http://www.quantumdynamix.net/clients/image-map-test/ImageMapTest-AcrobatX.pdf
This has to be considered a legatimate bug, especially since IMAGE MAPS is listes as one of the supported HTML features via the help files

  • CSS Header - how to create image map on header image?

So I am pretty new to CSS.  I created a tag <div id="page_header"> and then have an image called "header.jpg" that shows up fine.  But now I want to make that header clickable so I can use it as the link back to the home page.  If it were a basic image, I could create an image map.  But since it is a CSS file, I can't figure out how to do this.  I know this has to be simple!
    Thanks for your help,

Thanks - so I would insert a transparent gif the same size as the header area (1000 X 300) the same way I would if it were a regular image?  Does this go before the <div id="page_header"> tag?
    Inside the div.

  • Image-map hotspot coordinates as variables ?

I am looking to develop an application that will allow operators to interactively define hotspots (clickable zones) on an image. Once done, this image map will be made available to a Web application, for user interaction (each click will be registered with predefined data that depends on the hotspot clicked). The process is to be repeated for a large number of images – that’s why I need an application, rather than having the operators defining the hotspots through the template/HTML editor.
My question: Is there a way to define variables for the hotspot coordinates, so that these coordinates - e.g. a rectangle’s corners - can be captured by the operators (typically, through mouse-pointer positioning) ?
PS: I am not a DreamWeaver developer – but I am looking for the right development platform for this project …

JavaScript. Probably something you could do with some of jQuery's functions. Preferrably you would simply store the data in a database to avoid file writing permission issues which go against Java's security sandbox model...

  • Creating Image Maps

I need to figure out how to attach links to certain parts of
an image, I think this is called image mapping. I have done this
before using Front Page for Mac. Now I am using Contribute, and I
    can't figure it out.
    Anyone have any experience??

You can't create an imagemap in contribute.
You can slice up the image though and place the parts in a
table. That gives you the same effect. Don't forget to set the
border property of the images to '0', because otherwise you will
see a border (a tag propertie) when linking the image-part to
    another file/page.

  • Disk Utility can't repair disk; unable to create image

    Hi all,
I had posted a couple days ago because my MBP (2011, 1 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5) was running very slow. I ran EtreCheck, and it turned out that my HD had a number of errors. The next day, before I could back everything up, I had the grey screen on both safe mode and regular mode.
I tried Command+Option+P+R and it brought me to the Utility screen where I was able to run Disk Utility. I tried to repair, but the disk was unrepairable. I then tried to create an image of the HD on a new 1TB external drive, but when the progress bar got to about 50%, it failed. I tried this three times and it failed each time. The error message each time was "Input/Output error." Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could possibly back up my HD, or is all lost?
    Here's a pic:

Booted into the Recovery Partition, try Disk Utility/Restore to copy the files to an external drive. Note the warning that this will reformat the drive, meaning any data on the drive will be erased.

  • Unable to create image-based pop-up menu

Working in FW MX (yes, I know I'm behind the times!).
Created a pop-up menu; want to experiment with image-based
options, rather than html. When I choose IMAGE on the Appearance
tab of the pop-up editor, no styles are available in the style
choosers for up/over states. (And there ARE styles in the
assets--including some that I've just created.) Furthermore, when I
click through the NEXT buttons to DONE, then return to edit this
pop-up menu, it's defaulted back to html. Image just won't stick.
The documentation says this should be simple and
straightforward, but it ain't. I've spent several hours struggling
    with this.

Okay, on the suggestion of one tech support person, I logged
in as a different Windows user. Whaddaya know, the style options
were there! However, when the file is exported, all I get is the
html version, no image/style-based popup. Same when I preview it in
browser (IE7, FireFox). But the preview in the pop-up editor does
show the styles applied--they just don't make it to publication for
    some reason.

  • Cannot select image map hotspot

    Hi Folks --
I have a Dreamweaver file with an image that has 3 hotspots.
I changed the image and now need to change with size and placement
    of the hotspots.
Dreamweaver Help says to use the Pointer Hotspot Tool to
select a hotspot, and then drag a hotspot selector handle to resize
    the hotspot.
However, when I click on the hotspot using the pointer tool,
nothing happens - I see no selector handles, there is no outline
around the hotspot. All that happens is that the image is selected,
    but not the hotspot.
My setup: Mac OS 10.3.9; Dreamweaver 8.0.2; PowerMac G5 Dual
    2.0
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

  • Unable to create image chart

I have tried to create an image chart beacuse I want colour coded info in my charts. I follow the steps, encounter no erros but get no result for my efforts other than a broken image. Am I missing something something? Do I need to change any particular settings?

The Metalink Note reads as follows:
    Problem Description
You successfully installed Oracle Portal on UNIX platform and you want to create new application component of type chart, specifically Image Chart. Use used Query Wizard to create this component, however when you want to test it only page with selected template and 'broken image' icon is displayed.
    Solution Description
Image charts are generated by oracle.webdb.chart.ChartServlet therefore, first check jserv.log file for any reported errors.
If there is no obvious problem try to check jserv.properties file. It should contain directive wrapper.env=DISPLAY=<host:dislpay>.
<host:display> must point to existing and running X Server. If it does, use xhost command to verify whether X server uses connect restrictions. If yes, use xhost command to add your host into list of hosts allowed to connect to this X server.
If you make any change to jserv.properies file, you will have to restart your Apache web server.
    Explanation
In order to generate graph, Java needs to know certain metrics of graphics subsystem and therefore there is requirement for running X server.
This problem doesn't occure when Oracle Portal runs on Windows platform.
