Image size from header

Hi,
I'm trying to extract image size from header for PNG, JPG, TIFF, BMP and GIF files. So far I got PNG working. I'm having problems finding size info for JPG files. Anyone knows where I can read about it (i didnt find nothing on google) or have the code that works? also for the other image types?
P.S. I dont wanna read the entire image using Image class cause its too slow.

Code Snippet:
ImageInputStream imageStream =
        ImageIO.createImageInputStream(/*File or InputStream*/);
java.util.Iterator<ImageReader> readers =
        ImageIO.getImageReaders(imageStream);
ImageReader reader = null;
if(readers.hasNext()) {
    reader = readers.next();
}else {
    imageStream.close();
    //can't read image format... what do you want to do about it,
    //throw an exception, return ?
reader.setInput(imageStream,true,true);
int imageWidth = reader.getWidth(0);
int imageHeight = reader.getHeight(0);
reader.dispose();
imageStream.close();

  • How can you find out an individual image size from multiple images on a canvas

    This is probably a really really simple question but I can't for the life of me find how I can find out an individual image size from multiple images on a canvas. eg I have 3 photos i want to arrange 1 large and the other two next to it half the size. How can I edit individual image size on the canvas as when I select the image on a sperate layer I want to resize it just resizes the entire canvas and not the individual image
    Thanks

    I want to know they exact dimensions though. You can get them by dragging to the 0,0 corner and then reading off of the ruler scale on the sides but its fiddily as you have to zoom right in and work it out. I know in photoshop there is a ruler but is there any other way in Elements?

  • Making some texbox and image invisible from header in the second page and third page only

    i have written this expression for the image
    =iif(Globals!PageNumber= 1,false,True)
    the problem is, it is repeating in every pages, i want it to be displayed in the page one only, when the rdlc report is generated in the report viewer

    Hi aki.mary,
    According to your description, you added textbox and image to page header, now you want to display them on the first page, on other pages, their visibility is set to false, but the image is visible on every page.
    I tried to reproduce the issue in my local machine, but it works fine for me. I set visibility of textbox and image by following steps:
    Right-click the image, click Image Properties.
    Click Visibility in left pane, select Show or hide based on an expression.
    Click (fx) button and type the expression: =iif(Globals!PageNumber= 1,false,True).
    The following screenshot is for your reference:
    In order to improve the efficiency of troubleshooting, please provide detailed information of the report. I would be appreciated it if you could provide steps you created the report and screenshot of the report. By collecting this information now, it will

    Okay I am at a loss how to change an image from 6.8MB to 290KB or at least in the KB's so we can keep from getting the file is too large message from where we want it to go to. I am at a loss when I move the inches smaller the size is still too small. Daughter is trying to move a picture to a site called my space and she keeps getting a message that the file is too large...

  • Image size from photoshop to indesign

    For some reason if I make an image the exact size in Photoshop and bring it into indesign DPS it is always smaller.  Obviously I can resize it but i was curious why this is happening.  I set my file up to be 1024 x768 at 72 dpi and save as a JPEG.  When i drag that file into the frame in Indesign it is always small in the corner.  What am I doing wrong?

    You're doing nothing wrong.. try using the place option from the file menu rather than dragging your images and see if there is any difference.

  • Image size from Illustrator to Photoshop

    I'm new to Illustrator and may just be overlooking something here, but here's my the background and question:
    I took a screen shot of an image and opened it in Photoshop CS3. I've cropped out a portion I want to use and save the file as a .eps file and open it with Illustrator. Within Illustrator, I recreate the image at the same size as the image I opened (I'm looking at both images at 100% view). I save my new image as a .eps file and then open it with Photoshop. For some reason, the image is about 50% bigger in Photoshop than it was in Illustrator. Any ideas? Is a 100% viewing percentage not really showing the correct size of the image? Or is does the issue lie with how Photoshop CS3 interprets a .eps file from Illustrator CS4?
    Thanks in advance for any information/advice.

    You have just discovered image resolution and its effect on the display of pixel based images.
    In Illustrator there's no resolution. Objects have a defined size and Illy assumes a monitor resolution of 72 ppi as a basis for it's assumptions on the display of graphics and for it's calculations of this 100%.
    When exporting into pixel based file formats you can choose the resolution.
    In Photoshop the "100%" has no relation to the actual size of things (as defined in Illustrator) but means that one pixel of the image is one pixel of your monitor.
    When you open an EPS you get a dialog box in which you specify the way photoshop has to calculate the pixels from the vector and the resolution you want. When you enter 72 ppi you should get the size you expected. But that won't be enough to print.
    BTW: the workflow of making a screenshot and converting your image to and fro maybe harmful to printing results.

  • How can I batch process 4 diff image sizes from 1 master?

    Hi there
    What I would like to do is create 4 separate image files of varying sizes (large, medium, small & extra small) from one master image. I would need the ability to name each file individually too, ie. picture1_large, picture1_medium etc
    I have a few thousand files to process so ideally a solution that I didnt have to keep checking on would be preferable. I know I can create a batch process for one size but its creating the four diff sizes in a batch which im finding  difficult to work out.
    any help would be much appreciated
    Jim

    Simply drag the entire folder through Bridge—or even individual files—the invisible xmp files containing your adjustments will automatically and invisibly travel along with the image files, as long as you do it within Bridge, not through the OS.
    Otherwise, you would need to set your Mac OS to always make invisible files visible, and you don't want that hassle.
    Just use Bridge to move files around or to copy them to a new folder.
    Incidentally, there's a dedicated Adobe Bridge forum:

  • Question about image size from app developer

    Hi
    I am developing an android app that prints through eprint, so this is directed to HP Staff
    What is the correct size of a jpg image to take up the whole page?
    In this app, i am unable to use PDF's, so i want to try using a full page jpg and insert the data onto that, then send the whole page to an eprint email address.
    I tried a standard 612 X 792 pixel page (72 dpi), but it only takes up alittle more than a quarter page.
    i need it to be the right size for any of the eprint printers.
    thanks
     --Karl

    1: Decrease the size as you describe.
    2. Go to File>New or Ctrl N
    3. Make the box 8.5x11. Make sure the other data conforms to your image.
    4. Now,holding down Ctrl-Shift, Drag the image to the new box and release the mouse. Your image will be centered in the box.
    Note: there may be a method to do this including any adjustment layers, but I usually only do this as a last step, flattening a copy of the working file.

  • Differing image sizes from same stock

    PPCS4 project using imported DVD footage (1440 x 1080). Processed clips - eg nested/freezeframe/effect are approx 1/4 the size of unprocessed clips, when viewed in program window and when encoded. Strangly video options > scale to frame size, corrected some to full size but not others. If scale to frame size unchked on all clips and program screen set to 75% only two freeze frames noticably smaller, when played in PP. No idea why only two but cud have lived with that. However when encode (264 HDTV 1440 x 1080 or 1280 v 720) again with export settings screen set at 75% and centered, once encoder window opens the visual area is approx 1/4 of the encoder screen and once encoded same with the player - ie large black surround
    Cropping gives a sort of a soltn but the quality is down.
    All suggestions welcome

    Man I just didn't understand any of that question.

  • When I export from Lr to CS3 my image size is 8x12 roughly, why?

    I shoot RAW with a 5d mark2 I export from lr to cs3 in my workflow. I am wanting to create a gallery wrap at an image size of 24x36, when I go to create my negative space my exported image size from Lr is only 8x12, why would that be? I don't know what to do or how to make my image larger without loosing quality? I have never noticed this before? Why is it doing this now?

    It will be the settings in your export menu.

  • How to make Image/size/resolution agree with metadata resolution?

    After scanning the help file a bit and searching thru this forum a bit with `metadata resolution' as search criteria, I'm still pretty confused about how it is supposed to work.. I may have never actually found the right part of the help file.
    Cutting to the chase: How can I make the resolution reported by the metadata tab for resolution agree with what is reported inside photoshop at Image/size resolution.  I didn't see any way to set how res is reported in bridge.
    I see many pictures reported in metadata as 72 ppi for resolution and  reported in photoshop as 200 pixel/inch
    They do BOTH mean pixels per inch right?  If so, or really even if they don't how can I get the two reports to show the same resolution?
    There are too many processes that depend on knowing res in advance of opening a file for that to be so far divergent.

    Jingshu Li wrote:
    Some JPG or Tiff with Camera raw settings will be opened in ACR firstly when you double click them. In ACR workflow option (the bottom in the ACR dialog) the resolution value isn’t same with that in Bridge (metadata panel). If you go ahead to open the image in PS by clicking ‘Open Image’ button in ACR dialog and then check the image size from Image -> Image Size in PS, the resolution will be same with ACR (actually it is changed by ACR).
    If disable ACR support for JPG and Tiff in Bridge (Open Camera Raw Preferences in Bridge and choose ‘Disable JPEG support’ or ‘Disable TIFF support’ for ‘JPEG and TIFF Handling’), JPG or TIFF files will be opened by PS directly and the resolution matches between Bridge and PS. I believe this is an ACR bug.
    So what file types are you using and if they’re opened by ACR firstly in your workflow?
    The files are *.jpg.   But I don't see where camera raw comes in.  These are common jpg files.  I'm opening them by double click in bridge.
    Any way I did disable jpg and tiff in the Camera Raw preferences as you suggested.  At Jpeg and tiff handling, both disabled. and restared bridge.
    However, I see no improvment.
    For example, a file reporting 72 ppi in bridge when opened in photoshop ... Images/size resolution reports 480 pixels/inch.
    There is obviously some kind of miss handling that has been done to these files for them to have such a high resolution.   I suspect they may have been handled at Walgreens or Walmart... or similar since I had something very similar happen to me once when I had a bunch of pictures developed at Walgreens and they cam back with resolutions like that, when I know the camera would have given them something way less.
    But I don't see how any of that should be effecting Bridges  inability to get the resolution right.
    Here is another example: some.jpg
    It appears that bridge is showing an unusually huge file size in inches, to account for the reported 72 ppi.
    Bridge:
    Size: ...............1.14mb
    Dimensions:.....1496x1064
    Dimensions in
    inches ............20.8x26.7
    Resolution: .....72 ppi
    ===========================
    Photoshop:
    pixels
    Width 1496
    height 2064
    Document size
    inches
    width  4.987
    height 6.88
    Resolution 300
    Do you have further suggestions?

  • I am still having problems understanding changes in image size

    Howdy
    I hope someone can help me. I have an old record album (one that has never come out on CD). I recently recorded the album over to a CD recorder. Okay great, I now have the CD. Years ago I gave a copy of the LP to my brother. I want to give him a copy of the CD with the album cover as artwork. Okay I have a commercial scanner at my place of work so I can scan the album cover which is roughly 12 inches by 12 inches. I scanned it at 200 dpi. So I end up with this large image. CD covers are around 4 3/4 inches. I played around with the image using another program and thought I'd changed it to this size but it never worked out right. Now I have been trying to play around with the image in Adobe and just can't quite understand this. To try to understand this better I actually scanned a cd cover at 200 dpi and then opened this image in adobe. The size of the image says its 4 3/4 by 4 3/4 but it doesn't look like it would printout that way. It looks like it would print out much larger. I saw somewhere in this forum that adobe is set to something like 72 ppi and I think I sort of understand that but I guess what I need help with is the process by which I convert an image of the album cover which is roughly 12x12 to be 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 without losing too much resolution quality. Can someone walk me through this? I guess I don't understand how to resize the larger image to 4 3/4 by 4 3/4 inches so that it actually prints out at that size. This is driving me crazy!! Thanks.
    Joe

    Joe,
    Try not to get too bogged down different resolutions - not least because monitors display images at a different resolution to printers.
    The good news is that you have a scanned image that is larger than you require which means downsizing it is doing to be easier.
    Go to the 'Image' menu, select the 'Resize' option, select 'Image Size' from the sub-menu.
    A dialogue box should appear on screen. At the top is a section entitled 'Pixel Dimensions'. No need to worry about these, but for a 12" x 12" image at 200ppi, the measurments on my screen show an overall file size of 16.5 MB with the width and height each showing 2400 pixels.
    Focus on the section below it entitled 'Document Size'. Hopefully it displays the sizes you have mentioned: 12" wide, 12" high, 200 PPI resolution.
    Firstly, click in the box where the units of measurement are given and change them to 'cm' (CDs are 12 centimetres square unlike their predecessor LPs that were 12 inches square). The corresponding values in the sizes will change automatically to reflect your new choice of measurement. On my screen, where it did show 12 inches, it now shows 30.48 cm. Click on the figure alongside width and change this to 12. If the 'Constrain Proportions' option is ticked, the height will change automatically too. You'll notice that the resolution increases automatically from 200 to 508. Just click OK and your image size has been changed.
    Best Wishes
    Mark

  • How to set image size for importing photos from a digital camera

    I'm using Iphoto 6 and am a novice user of my new digital camera. The camera is set to HQ image quality. Initially when I imported photos from the camera into IPhoto, the images were very large (over 1 meg) and produced good quality 4X6 prints. Now when I import photos from the same camera still set to HQ image quality, the photos are very small (less than 100 kb) after being imported into IPhoto. I think I must have changed some kind of setting in IPhoto that affects the size of an imported image, but I can't find where that is or how to change it back so that the size is not changed when imported. Can someone please help me with this? Thanks!

    Dave, thanks for clarifying Toad's response for me - I was just too ignorant to connect the dots from his responses. As you said, there were 2 versions - 1 in the original folder and 1 in data; the original folder had the photos that were 1 mb. We must have pulled from that folder previously to print photos not realizing they existed in 2 places. So when we found these thumbnail photos, we just thought they were the real thing. Where can you go to learn about the struction and hierarchy of the photos in terms of what Iphoto does to an image when you import it? Is it in Iphoto help somewhere? Thanks so much for your help with this, and you too Toad for leading me down the path.
    If you're getting the size from Finder, I think Old
    Toad's question makes a lot of sense. Is the file
    you're looking at, somewhere in a folder called
    "Data" in iPhoto Library? That 56k sounds about the
    right size for a thumbnail.
    If you do a search for the image name, both the
    actual photo and the small thumbnail are stored with
    the same image, e.g. abc.jpg
