Image to always fill div

I'm trying to create a slideshow with full screen images that fill the viewport (in my case probably a div) like the ones on this site:

The goal is for the image to ALWAYS fill the the div, regardless of its size... cropping the sides if the div is more narrow than the image, and cropping the top and bottom is the div is shorter than the image. Of course the image needs to maintain it's aspect ration.

As is probably clear, I am trying to make the images in the center DIV automatically cycle.
In home 2 I used a FlevOOware extension, Trans slideshow. The problem is that the images don't change at regular intervals. It's not bad, but it's not what I'm shooting for.
In home 3 I used the Flash Image Viewer. The images change perfectly but I can't get the Flash Viewer to fill the DIV . . . I'm using the same images I used in home 2.
Can somebody tell me either A) How to fix the FlevOOware extension or How to make the Flash Vierer fill the screen or an entirely different way to do this.

It does not work.
I can only see a very thin horizontal like. The image gets "compressed" to about 3 pixel and the line is as long as the image is wide (so no vertical sizing as well).
I tried it with WinXP SP3 and IE8.
I tried it with WinXP SP3 and IE6.
I tried it with my own PC via VPN to make sure its no nasty setting to our company desktop and I have only Windows, Office, SAP GUI on it. Nothing else.
Always the same result. As soon as I set the height of the image to 100% I get only a thin horizontal line.
You were able to accomplish. So I tried FireFox portable - and it works!
My lesson learned is that a picture can only be re-sized to a smaller size but not expanded. Thats no problem, I could use a 1600x1200 pixel graphic and then its made smaller.
But we have to use IE because thats the companies standard and SAPs as well.
We have the application running on a NetWeaver 2004s BI 7.0 machine. No EHP1. System got latest patches 3-4 month ago.
I cant believe that the SAP machine is the problem, because FireFox renders the graphik the same as your screenshots show.
Do you have any idea what the problem could be? Or could it be some kind of customizing/parameter problem within SAP? I have the problem since over 1 year and always thought its just a bug getting solved somewhen by a patch...

problem my image is not fillng the whole of my browser screen
idealy 1000 x 600 and I am getting horible white borders around my
artwork.
I have
A used the properties settings in flash and sett my both my
stages to 1000 x 600 including my preloader
which the main swf loads into
B used the publish settings to match my document setting in
percent so they align in the middle of the page
Is there anything I can do in dreamweaver so my swf file
always fills the whole browser screen?

A flash file is proportional, and a web browser viewport
isn't necessarily
proportional.
So, unless you are forcing a persons web browser to a set
size (and I'd
STRONGLY not recommend doing that...ESPECIALLY at the size
you want) then
you'll need to confine your actual SWF file to a specific
size on the page
itself.

The stage in Flash is not what tells the web browser what
size to set the
SWF on the HTML page itself. That's done in the HTML when you
'publish/export' your SWF file from flash using the HTML tab.

Well, you set the width and height to 100%, but that will
distort your SWF
file if people change the aspect ration of their browser from
that of the
SWF file.

How do I make a horizontal bar stretch to always fill the width of the browser outside of the wrappe

When I enter 100% in the width field it will fill to the wrapper which is at 1000px, I want just certain Horizontal Bars to fill the width of the browser at all times.
Example is at http://www.hollywoodunderground.com - the bars below the header/links and the bar above the footer. Trying to figure out how to get both of those to always fill the width of the browser while still maintaining the original wrapper for all of the other content. Do I just find a way to get those 2 bars outside of the wrapper into a new wrapper or do I do it within the wrapper?

You would have to set up your construction a bit differently.
You would put the logo and the social media icons in their own <div> set to 1000px, margin 0 auto to horizontally center it

Then you would have your black bar <div> set to width: 100% (no need to set this though as it will fill the available space).

Then you would have your youtube videos <div> set to 1000px, margin 0 auto.

System Image Utility always fails, why?

Hi everyone,
on my clean and fresh install of 10.7.4 Server the System Image Utility always fails to create an image. I want to create a NetInstall image and have put the OS X Lion Installer in /Applications. I can select it in SIU and choose to create a NetInstall image. It asks for the admin pw and always presents an error at the very end: Image creation failed. An unknown error has occured.
If I select to create a NetBoot image instead it fails directly after clicking on the Create button with this slightly different message: Image creation failed. An error has occured. At least it’s no unknown error…
Any ideas what might be causing this? I have succesfully created NetInstall images with 10.6 Server and 10.8 Server, but 10.7 Server somehow won’t play nice.

Hi Brian,
I first deleted the Installer and redownloaded it from the App Store, just to make sure there was no problem with it. Even though I now have the 10.7.4 Installer (had 10.7.0 before) nothing has changed. I then went on to set the log level as suggested. I now get different errors based on the chosen log level.
Log level set to debug:
Image creation failed.
*** -[__NSArrayM insertObject:atIndex:]: object cannot be nil
Log level set to verbose:
Image creation failed.
An unknown error has occurred.
I did not see anything helpful in the logs unfortunately. The only noticeable thing mentioned was: Failed to create image from installer media.
Any additional ideas? I will attach both logs here, just in case.

Hi I am inserting an image in a created div tag but my image is checkered and repeats it's self like a pattern. How do i turn that off?

Images are always placed -2pt below base line - how to change?

Hi all,
for small icons that should appear in the text, we use image elements within the paragraph. When I select the placement option at insertion point, then the image is always placed -2pt "above" the base line (thus, actually below the line). If I try to change this then it is reset when I save the topic.
Can I modify the read/write rules to allow manual chnages, or set this globally to 0pt? We use FrameMaker 9, DITA for this project.

Sorry about the delayed response.
It would take a script or FDK client to automate the setting while editing within FrameMaker. When working with XML, you can, as Michael noted, use attributes to store the anchored frame properties in XML so that you can round-trip them. If you are willing to use FM's default attribute names and values, you don't even need read/write rules.
Another approach, if all instances of an element type are to be treated the same way is to specify the necessary settings in read/write rules. In that case, you can edit in FM not caring how the anchored frames look. When you save as XML and open the result, the r/w rules will kick in and you'll get what you want. For example, you might define an element called InlineGraphic and use the r/w rule:

   fm property baseline offset value is "0";
In this case, your DTD would not define attributes for the position or baseline offset properties. Whenever you open an XML document, the InlineGraphic elements will come in At Insertion Point with an offset of 0.0 pt.

PDF Image will not fill up entire custom size page

Fellow Forum Members,
I'm using Acrobat 6 and SnagIt 8. My screen captures with SnagIt are being saved in PDF format. But for some reason I can't figure out, the capture image is not filling up the entire 8" x 6" PDF custom size page. I keep on getting 1.5" Right and Bottom margins no matter what setting I use in Distiller or in SnagIt. It's like the image is refusing to resize itself to fill up the page.
Does anyone out there know of a way to screen capture an image at a 8" X 6" size and have it totally fill up a 8" X 6" PDF page? Is there a screen capture app that doesn't have this problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you use Acrobat's built-in functionality of creating a new PDF from the clipboard it fills the entire page.

Why is image over flowing content div into footer div?

My content div is set at 975px wide padding 20px. I insert a image that is 700x525. Content div expands to fit image. As soon as I set the alignment on the image to left Content div shrinks, image overflowing into footer and text in footer is wrapped around image. If I set a height for the Content div larger than height of image all is well. My problem is images on different pages will all be different sizes.

How do I center an image inside a CSS div tag using dreamweaver?

I know this may seem like a very silly queston to ask because it should seem so simple but how do I do that? I am having trouble being able to center an image inside of a div tag. Here is the code I have come up with so far. Thanks in advance for your help.

Also you can ignore the other div tags after the first div id. The first div id that has my image link is the one I am trying to get to center my image. The image is in there just not centering.

Image Map in a div tag causing problems in webpage

I have an image map in a div tag (I'm using Dreamweaver so
I've place hot spots on a gif within a div tag). When I preview in
a browser the hot spots are creating an empty space between the
image and the div tag below it, which there shouldn't be. Prior to
this I had done the same thing but using layers instead of div tags
and it was fine... there was no unwanted space. What am I doing

I tried to replicate the above mentioned issue, but did not get the <div> around the image in Webhelp output. Would it be possible for you to provide more information on this:
At what point does the <div> start appearing around the image, as soon as the CBT expression is applied?
If yes, what is the expression?
What happens when expression is set to None again and individual CBT is under application
Is there a spacing or the CBT text just follows the inline image?
Please send us a sample file for the same, if possible. Thanks!

Is it possible to swap images into an AP div from a list of images, not only one?

I've figured out how to change images in an AP div on a Mouseover using Set Text of Container, but it would be great if the swapped in file would change over time, or was randomized. Is there a way to do this?
Or, is there a way to have images load in the AP div every few seconds? Thanks.

Check your userid autorecovery folder after you close Photoshop. If there are psb files in it delete them

Expand collapsible tabbed spry to fill div..

I currently have a div with width 700px and height 500px and i have inserted several collapsible sprys 1 above the other with the dimension of tab being 150x700px and the content 350x700px. When i click the tab of the first collapsible spry the content drops down to fill the div but with the second and so on the spys are half off the screen. Is there way so that when you click any of the collapsible spry they all expand centrally within the div?

Create image which is filled in from another image? How do I blend two images - using the outline of one and the coloring or background of the other?

Everything you want to do and more is available through the use of Photoshop Layers.
It's kind of beyond the scope of the forum to teach basic Photoshop layer usage, but you can find many tutorials online, and Photoshop itself comes with decent documentation (Help).
You can, for example, open one image, paste or place another over it as a second layer, then you can blend the two through many different Blending options, as well as 0 to 100% blending percentage. You can even use transparency or masking to make parts of a layer transparent, opaque, or anything in between.
Using selection and refinement tools, you can even put subjects on different backgrounds...
