Images in iWeb

I want to put images in iweb that have no backgrounds. JPGs always have a white rectangular background but my photoshop images can have transparent backgrounds leaving the object "cropped".  How can I have irregularly shapped objects cropped in iWeb?"

Make sure your image actually has an alpha channel (transparent background)...
Use PNG, or PSD... then drag the image into your webpage...

So how did you do it?
by understand what iweb widgets do, in this case setting gridEntry widget's scalMode preference from fill to fit.
then reset the displayed image, so it fits in the display area even if it's portrait aspect.
however, i found some glitches in gridEntry widget that's quite strange... but all fix-able.
perhaps, iweb experts (whose had poked at my example) here can chime in.

  • How do I chance an image in iWeb?

I have a header image I've created and am using at the top of each page. Now that I have the site laid out, I want to replace these headers with ones specific to the page. But every time I try to drag a new image (same dimensions) over the old, it doesn't replace the image as I expect, it just plunks down a new one over the old. Which I then have to manually align it and apply the styles to.
What a pain! Especially if you're just making small changes to an image.
Is there not away to simply replace/change the jpeg on a page, with another file?

You might try this method: with the image file on the Desktop Control-click on it and select the Copy option in the contextual menu. Next go to the image in iWeb and click on it until it's selected and do a paste. It will replace the photo but I don't know if it will avoid the border/frame that the page layout adds to all photos added to the page.

  • Adjusting images in iWeb removes part of the image

If I adjust the image, the bottom 8th of the picture will have a white bar across it. It even carries over when publishing.
    Any ideas?

Hmm...this is interesting. It sounds like the white line problem that we've heard about before, but I've never heard of it affecting so much of the image. It probably depends on the aspect ratio of the image or something.
    Try this...
    1. Select the image in iWeb
    2. Open up the Inspector and click over to the Graphics tab
    3. At the bottom of the tab, change the opacity of the image to 99%
Now publish your page. Does this make any difference at all? BTW, what kind of adjustments are you making to the image??? Reflections?

  • Can't find images in Iweb SEO Tools to add alt-tags!

Hi everyone. I'm trying to add alt-tags to some images on an iweb site with iweb SEO tools but I can't get it to open the containing folder. I have a gallery set up with 6 categories and, in each of these categories, there are a few images. I navigate to the folder that contains each image (it actually contains 4 - the full sized image and three thumnails for use elsewhere - all of them jpgs) but iweb SEO Tools is just not recognising that the folder contains any images at all! I navigate my way through my file structure and, when I finally get to the containing folder, it hits a dead end and will not find the contents of it. Any ideas!?
An example of my file structure is as follows:
    RRF
    - Gallery
    - Pages
    - Landscapes_files
    - Media
    - dintonpastures [containing folder for images]
    - dintonpastures.jpg [that SEO refuses to see!]
Any help would be really appreciated!!

Photo templates are written in Javascript and cannot be accessed by iWeb SEO. Only images you create on a blank page or without using the photo template (HTML generated). They don't tell you that on Rage's website, in fact I find their advertising misleading in that they claim that you can alt tag "all" images in iWeb. But, it's free software, so you get what you pay for.

  • How do i flatten an images in iweb?

I created a tile image as the background for my website and then I added an overlay with a gradient. I like the effect, it looks great but when I visit my website online I notice that it loads the background image first and then the new layer moment after. This makes the site look very unprofessional.
How do I flatten both of these images in iweb?

You might try this method: with the image file on the Desktop Control-click on it and select the Copy option in the contextual menu. Next go to the image in iWeb and click on it until it's selected and do a paste. It will replace the photo but I don't know if it will avoid the border/frame that the page layout adds to all photos added to the page.

  • Editing Header Image in iWeb 'o8

I am having problems trying to edit the header image in iWeb '08. In the page layout part of the inspector there is places to edit the background image and the browser fill but no header image has appeared.
Any help here would be very helpful......

You can just replace the header image with one of your own by importing it - not through the inspector panel. The inspector panel as you say only does the page and browser background. Go to insert and click on choose you can then choose an image from your computer. Or through the media panel at the bottom of iweb.
Hope that is what you wanted to know.

my iWeb image names are incompatible with FTP servers and must be renamed but I can't find the images in iWeb. I can upload to a desktop file and change them there but then I would need to download them to a new site in iWeb to publish them.
    What's the answer?
    Thanks

Many thanks to  responded to my question and sorry not to get back sooner.
Yes, I discovered by this unfortunate experience that the names of photos are a serious issue if the site is to ever go to an FTP server.  Apple should discuss this carefully in their "manual".
One more question:  I uploaded the website to a folder on my desktop. When I open it, unlike the photos in iWeb, there are folders for each page which have all the photos in them. I went through each folder and changed the names to be FTP compatible. I'm using iWeb SEO Tool which allows one to upload from this local folder to an FTP server but having trouble.
Is this because there is an imbedment in iWeb that uses the old photo names to link to the actual photos and it can't find them because of the name changes?
Thanks again for your help ...

  • Assign a URL to an image in iWeb 2.0

I want to insert an image to my iWeb 2.0 page and apply "Shadow" and "Reflection" to the image, but do not want this image source from a local file. Instead, I want to assign it a URL to an external webservice. Using an HTML snippet will solve the problem of external resource insertion, by using an IMG tag with its SCR property set to the external webservice.
*But, I cannot apply "Shadow" and "Reflection" to an HTML snippet.*
If anyone knows how to either:
    1. Apply "Shadow" and "Reflection" to HTML snippets;
    2. Source iWeb image from an external webservice;
    please post your answers here.

This is not a great answer but it'll work in some cases: If the image from the HTML clipping is more or less static, especially at the bottom (like, say, a Google calendar insert, where the bottom is a blue bar with the same text and graphic all the time), use Grab to nab a copy of it, then use Graphic Converter or something similar to trim the edges and convert to JPEG. Then drop the JPEG where the HTML clipping will go, and scale to fit. Create a reflection of the JPEG, and, finally, drop the HTML clipping in a layer over the top of the JPEG. That way, it looks like the reflection of the JPEG is actually a reflection of the HTML.
A bit of a kludge, but hey. If it works, it can be better than nothing, which, as I understand it, is pretty much the only other option.

  • Background image on iweb site not showing

I created a web site using iWeb sometime ago. I used all of the templates provided with the app. Since "me" has come along, all the content on my page displays, BUT the background image on ALL of the pages no longer shows. I republished the site to see if that would fix the problem, but no dice... Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am searching the boards here, because I am having the same problem. My husband's site had dropped the background image from just one of the pages. I re-built that page for him, and it was fine. Now I'm having the same problem with mine. Again I rebuilt the initial page with the error, but now multiple pages say they're missing the background jpg file. What's up with this? And how do we get it back without having to re-build each darn page???
I have made no changes to my computer. No new updates. Just one day it was there, and the next day it was gone. I am frequently accessing my website to make updates (at least weekly), so is this just some weird glitchy thing?
    Thanks!

  • Color Management on images in iweb

I am using iweb for a blog page and the image preview on my intro page is completely different from the entries page. Same image imported for both . . . the main page shows a "summary" of the blog entry with a picture and when you enter the page of the entry the image completely changes color.
Is there a color setting anywhere? Why would it change?
These are the pages . . . the skin is very different from page to page.
    Thanks!

  • Stationary layer mask with moving image in iWeb?

    Hi everyone,
I have a an image that I only want 1/4 of revealed. I want to animate the image so that it moves across the opening of the mask (like someone passing by a window).
    Is this possible in iWeb?

Thank You for the links- this is a real education!- and after you rewrite the code where do you put it in iWeb? Do you paste it into a text box? Is the code embedded into the iWeb file or is it a link to a server outside the file?
Sorry about all the questions- I'm just trying to understand the technology so I can make a decision of where to start learning. I am looking for the simplest path to follow.

Hello Karlos and welcome to the forum!
PayPal offers a landing page upon purchase but you are only allowed to set up one landing page so the idea of having a separate landing page for each item is out of the question. Basically the one landing page you are allowed is a link you can click on to go back to your website after the purchase confirmation page of PayPal which shows receipt of purchase item number, quantity, shipping address (if applicable) etc.
The landing page must abide by PalPal terms including certain criteria that must be shown on your landing page. Further detail is available on PayPal website.
The person who purchases a product is emailed a receipt and you are also emailed a copy of the receipt. Theoretically you could setup an email address rule in Mail so when you receive an email from someone who makes a purchase you automatically email them a URL to download the image or you can send it as an attachment through the rule setup through Mail.app
The downside is you have to rely on the Mail rule to function properly it might be a little bit of trial and error to get the correct rules setup for it setting rule variables such as item number, etc. Also depending on how many digital download packages you have it could be cumbersome to maintain and setup all the files and related Mail rules for all of them. Also you would have to have your computer on with Mail.app running to have the application process the received emails into Mail rules and send a reply with attachment. If you had your computer off overnight and Mail wasn't running to process the rule and send an email upon purchase a customer would have to wait until you turned your computer on to get their download purchase.
The ideal method for this situation is to use watermarked images as preview on website and use php to require account creation and login on your website and have visitors login and view their account information where they are able to download their purchases through encrypted link. The link cannot be copied and given to someone else since it is encrypted and even if it weren't encrypted account login is required to access the file anyway. Also php can set up so visitors who purchase can only download the file a certain number of times. You can have it so they can only download the file once, twice, 10 times. PHP is the very best method in this situation no question the list of pros regarding this matter are endless.
PayPal can still be used in php method as a payment gateway. Unless you have a merchant account setup with your bank you can use other payment gateways like authorze.net or similar to make the payment transition from ones credit card to your bank account. PayPal can be used to create shopping carts for physical items but if you want to have a commerce site for digital download material you can still use PayPal but there's a lot of ingenuity involved. With regard to iWeb it's a little out of the applications' ability. I can easily say this would be a lot of work for the inexperienced user.
    Best of luck to you.

  • Viewing Images in iWeb

I apologize in advance if this has been asked before but I cannot find an answer to my problem anywhere!
I have several graphic images that I want to showcase on one of my iWeb pages. What I would like to have is a series of smaller square "icons" at the top of the page that, when the user clicks on the "icon," open the full image below. I don't want to use something like lytebox, shadowbox or highslide because I want to direct where the image shows up on my page. Is there any easy (read: beginner user) way to set this up on my site?
Thank you so so much for any and all help!

There are a number of ways to do that. See the demo pages listed below for different methods:
Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window
    SimpleViewer and Flash Album Exporter
    Mouse Over
How they were created is described on each page.

  • Resizing images for iweb

What is the ideal length, width and total size (megabytes) for the images I drag into Iweb for website photo pages? Criteria: sharpness, quality, convenient download time for viewers.
Will be batch resizing in PS CS5 Mac with Image Processor.
Many photos are large RAW files.
    Thank you.

    Hi Libby,
I guess it really depends on how big you want your viewers to see them & what resolution you want them to be able to download. I save mine at 8 inches on the longest side at 72dpi resolution & this works really well. They are generally less than 400KB & load very quickly.
Here is a link to my site so you can see...
