Images look great in viewer and terrible in canvas

I made some map animations in Motion and Keynote. They plook perfect in the Viewer window but terrible in the Canvas window. I have a 480i DV/NTSC timeline. As far as I know, all my settings are correct.
The problem is that colors look blocky in the canvas window. Is there any way to get the Canvas window to display images as cleanly as they are displayed in the Viewer window of FCP7?
Is there anything I should do to these images in Photoshop to prep them for FCP?
Thanks very much in advance,
- Nick

The Viewer just shows whatever you have in its native state.
Moving the clip or image to the Canvas forces it to display at the resolution and color space of the codec used in the Sequence setting.
FCP works best with still images that were saved in the TIFF format. PNG will also give good results. You should always use images with a RGB color space.
The problem is that colors look blocky in the canvas window.
The images very likely need to be rendered, then they will look much better.
Consider also that the Canvas always shows a low res proxy. This is less demanding on system resources for real time playback. To see what you really have requires connecting a calibrated, broadcast monitor or at the very least, an excellent TV.
Is there anything I should do to these images in Photoshop to prep them for FCP?
Unless you need to zoom and pan the images, open one of Photoshop's Film & Video presets that matches the pixel dimensions of your FCP timeline settings. Paste your images into the preset template and use the transform tools to scale them to the right size.

  • Image looks truncated in viewer and canevas

    Hi there,
I am begining a new SD project in which I imported a QT sequence that was generated with Mpegstreamclip.
I chose easy settings mode in FCP.
In both viwere and canevas, the image does not look "centered".
As a matter of fact, it is truncated on the right side and when I play the sequence, a vertically moving blueish-greenwish band appears on the right side.
I have checked that the sequence plays all right in MPEG streamclip.
By the way, if I import another sequence that was shot with a HD photocamera, 16:9 format, a blueish band also appears on the right side.
What could be the problem ?
It is the first time I see that
    Thanks in advance
    Ivan

The image on the left in PS looks the same in Picasa Image
Viewer (I selected it to be color managed based on the monitor profile), looks the same in Windows Image Viewer, and looks the same in the thumbnail.  The image on the right in LR is how the picture looks when I look at my image in Firefox but in Internet Explorer and in Chrome, the image looks like the image on the left in PS.  The image below shows how the thumbnail looks different from the actual picture when it's double clicked and viewed in Picasa.  The thumbnail (which shows the subjects having green skin) would be how I saw it online while the double clicked version is how I saw it in PS, even though it was sRGB (I checked the image properties to make sure of the color space).
I have a ATI 5470 GPU on my ASUS 17.3 inch laptop.  Not sure about the drivers.

  • Image looks great in PS- when I go to print it looks grainy in printer preview dialog box and prints blurry. Why?

Image looks great in PS- when I go to print, it looks grainy in printer preview dialog box and prints blurry.  Why is this happening?

PS CC, Yosemite, Epson 3880 (called espson to make sure it wasn't something with that), saved as a tiff/psdjpg- all files behave the same way.  When I open the raw file- and only crop the image- it behaves this way now- with grain and blur when printing.  No other files do this in the same shoot.  I worked on this image- could something have gotten corrupted along the way such that now even opening the raw file creates this problem.  SInce upgrading my computer -  a window pops up when I open PS that says I need to update my graphics card?? for 3D- I'm not using 3D- so I don't know if that means anything.  I have to leave for about an hour- but greatly appreciate any feedback. I will be in touch. Thank you.

  • Images not showing in viewer and browser

I've been using Apreture 2.1.1 without any problems until yesterday. Even though all my projects are in tact, I can no longer see the images in the Aperture viewer and browser. I really don't know how this happened. To rectify the problem I did the following:
    1. Verified and repaired the Disk using Disk Utility
    2. Logged in in Safe mode and did the above
    3. Uninstalled Aperture, removed all reference files and re-installed
    4. Opened the Library and photos are all intact.
    5. Uninstalled Aperture and re-installed the 2.0 version
I did all the above but still have the same issue. Just can't figure out what is wrong here.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
    thanks
ps. Forgot to add this: It also crashes when I want to quit it

did you dump the preferences and appropriate other files? prior to the reinstall? otherwise if any of those files are bad you'll be installing aperture with the same possibly corrupt files.
your problem sounds like a hard drive or cable issue, have you swapped out cables?
what cable are you using? eSATA? FW800?

The desktop image is fine, taken from the exact same pool of jpg photos.  However, as soon as the slide show screen saver comes on, the images are scrambled.  What is it about the apple screen saver algorithm that scrambles the pics?

  • Image looks different in Photoshop and Lightroom

I started a forum on flickr and I have some issues with my images.  I have  calibrated monitor but my images look off online even though I saved them as sRGB.  Now my image looks one way in PS and then when I finish editing it and save it, I import it into lightroom and it looks different.
Same image, but it looks different.

  • Looks great in viewer & fully rendered.  Then = Crazy Export!  ***???

Ok, so I have this great video and I've fully rendered it and played it back in the viewer and everything is great.
I export it via compressor as a quicktime movie.
PROBLEM: In the QT edition some things aren't "working" - like there is a clip i had cropped which is no longer cropped and text is slightly moved. Is this random?? Did i do something wrong?? Help!!!

Check if you're export setting matches your sequence setting.
Then delete all the render of the sequence via the "render manager tool", because they might be some corrupted media.
    Try to re-export after that.

  • Help with Importing psd's, looks good in viewer, but not in canvas...

I have been searching for threads related to this issue, and this is what i've come up with...
It is my sequence settings, the picture looks great in the viewer but not in the canvas, as soon as i put it in the timeline, it goes blurry almost. I tried changing my settings to HD 16:9 and the picture looks great, but I need standard (NTSC DV 4:3), does anyone know a way around this? I can do it in Avid fine, why am I having such a hard time in FCP?
    Thanks
P.S i have tried changing my image size in photoshop to 720x480 and 720x540 and it doesn't seem to make a difference.
    Jana

The canvas is a low resolution proxy.
What does your sequence looking like on your NTSC production monitor?

  • Stationarys look great on Windows and using webmail in a browser.

That is great news. I was afraid it would look weird on Windows, or not show up at all in the viewer, but as several attachments making windows users go berserk at people sending mails from a Mac.
    Great work Apple!

    hi,
are you sure that the people receiving the mail (therefore the pics) do not have an option in their email client forbidding the display of images ?
Many anti-virus or email clients (even anti-spam tools) are blocking images. This is often used in the Windows world. I send few mails with stationaries including pics to Mac users and that worked perfectly.
I may be wrong but worth checking...
    Ciao,

  • Missing images in "all projects view" and System Pref- Desktop!

I was about selecting the image pick for my projects in the Aperture's all projects view to find out that some of my picture are missing.
I had verify that the image I was looking for is actually in my project and isn't rejected. I even perform a library rebuilt, but still a few of my pictures aren't showing up in this view. Anyone is also having this issue, know why or how I could fix this?
beside, I also have a similar issue of some pictures not showing up in the System Preferences under Desktop. All my Aperture's project are there, but not all pictures aren't showing up. By the way, the missing pictures there aren't the same as the ones not showing up in the "all projects view".

The thumbnail you are scrubbing across with the mouse is only 156 pixels wide on the screen. If you have more than 156 images in the Project it'd be pretty complicated to show every single one. As far as I can see the All Projects view is there to give you a quick overview of the Project content, but isn't designed for 'detailed' browsing.
Find the image you want in it's Project, Right/Control-click and choose 'Make Key Photo'.

Only images that have had Previews generated will show up in other applications. Have you made sure that the Previews are up to date?

I'm having trouble with my graphics, too, not your trouble though.
    As Murray above says,
absolute positioning is wrong! Don't do that.  Browsers keep objects with absolute positioning on the coordinates you set, no matter what monitor size is viewing it and no matter how the rest of the page flows.
I took off absolute positioning and it made an immediate difference - code below. The graphics are now inside their containers.
go here to see what I did: http://mkcolling.com/morionadobe.html
go here to see what you did: http://mkcolling.com/BADmorionadobe.html
    Two other things I noticed:
    1) Remove the height on your containers, too. Instead, use padding to add blank space around the content inside your containers and use margin to add the outside space that separates  the containers.
2)Your spry menu is wider than your outer container. You would fix that on the Spry css.

  • Text looks great in AE but terrible in Premiere Pro.

I am creating titles in After Effects for a video production in Premiere Pro, the titles look lovely and crisp in After Effects but when I import them to Premiere Pro they look terrible and blurry. How can I get them to look as sharp as they did in After Effects?

Hi, I'm using Premiere Pro CC and AE CC and am using the Dynamic Link to import the AE files into Premiere.
The PP sequence is 2 hours long and was shot at 720, it is still in the editing stage so have not rendered the full thing yet. I did try to render out a small section to see if the text got sharper but it didn't, and to be very honest I'm not sure what the best render settings are so have been using the H.264 YouTube 720 preset.....perhaps that is not the best but I am new to this and am learning as I go.
I have tried making the AE file much bigger and then resizing in PP to see if that helped, but that didn't work either.
My apologies for not giving the required info at the outset.

  • ITunes 7.3.2: ArtWork does not match Images on Cover Flow View and iPod

Hello everyone, this is my first post, thanks in advance for any and all help.
I have loaded most of my music collection onto iTunes, and authorized it to get album artwork. It has only found about 60% of my cover art (I have a lot of international discs, etc.), and of what it does find maybe 60% is correct. So I have spent a lot of time adding artwork by either scanning in cover art or cutting and pasting from the web. I go to "Get Info" and check the artwork tab all the time to make sure that only artwork that is correct or that I have added is attached to each of my song files.
However, I have noticed that there is a significant amount of my song files that, when I use cover flow view, or when I play the songs on my video iPod, the artwork that is on the artwork pane and what appears on the cover flow view don't match. Or the artwork that is in the artwork pane (and the only artwork in the get info artwork section) and what shows up on my iPod, don't match up. It is, for an OCD completist like me, rather annoying.
As an example, I have a lot of compilation albums. I have probably 13 different albums by different artists but which all have the same name of "The Ultimate Collection". There are some tracks for each album where the artwork pane and the cover flow view artwork match, but not all of the tracks.
I selected "group compilations when browsing", but that doesn't help. I selected all the tracks from the same album and clicked yes to whether it is a compilation, and that didn't work.
Does anyone have a simple, QUICK solution for making the artwork I have put in the artwork pane override or force itself on the cover flow view? Horrible phrasing I know, but thank you in advance for your help!

I had the same problem when I updated to 7.3, but I was able to fix it.
As far as I can tell, itunes 7.3 sees all music files (in your user/itunes/music folder) with the extension .mpg as quicktime movies, not mp3's and itunes won't let you add a cover to them. The problem is that songs imported as mp3's by previous versions of iTunes were all given the extension .mpg and not .mp3 (at least on my machine). I was able to fix the problem by simply changing the .mpg to .mp3 for all of my songs. As soon as I did this, the album artwork showed up again.
You have a few options for how you change the extension. You can right click on every file in your itunes library and select "Show In Finder" to change the file extension, or if you have many songs to fix (I had 793) you can download 'A Better Finder Rename' (search for it at www.versiontracker.com, it costs $20 to change more than 10 files at a time) which will make the changes automatically. If you are cheap you can always set up an automator work-flow to get the job done.
    Hope this helps

  • In Lightroom CC images look different in Library and Develop modules. After output, images do not appear as they do in Develop.

    As above.

Mac OS X 10.9.5 has a color management bug that can lead to colors appearing different in Develop and Library: Jao's photo blog: Serious color management bug in Mac OS 10.9 "Mavericks" . See also: Jao's photo blog: Further quantification of the Mavericks color management problem and Jao's photo blog: Color management in Safari is broken in Mavericks too. Sorry for all the links to my blog, but this bug really annoys me and it bugs me that it hasn't been fixed all these months that Mavericks has been out. This can lead to color shifts especially in the deep tones. You can sometimes work around it by turning on soft proofing and proofing to adobeRGB or sRGB. Adobe could fix this but they haven't so far. Apple could fix it too, but they haven't until now. They fixed some code that lead to Aperture working correctly but Lightroom still has the problem.

  • SonyAVCHD video looks great in iMovie11 or iDVD7.1.2. When I burn a DVD it's terrible. If I freeze frame I see squares. The picture has poor contrast. I've viewed DVD on my 6-year-old, 24 in. intel 2.16 GHz iMac, and on TV. Help!

I just bought a very good quality Sony AVCHD camcorder. I also just upgraded my computer from Tiger to Snow Leapord. My iMac is a 6-year-old, 2.16GHz Intel 2 Duo, with a 24 inch screen and 3GB Ram.
My Sony camcorder HD video looks great in iMovie11 and in iDVD7.1.2., but when I burn a DVD "professional" it looks terrible. If I look at a freeze frame on the DVD I see image made-up of squares. The picture has poor contrast. It looks as bad as poor quality VHS. Do I need to get a new iMac to make this work? Is it possible to make a sharp, clear DVD from AVCHD footage with a 6-year-old iMac like mine?

That thread helped for a time.  But now it seems as though my computer is back to slow again.  But, some of the jargon is over my head as well.  Not sure I knew quoite everything they were talking about.  But thanks a lot for that, it helped I probably just need to reread it and follow the instructions again.  Thanks so much.
