IMessage Status

I live in United Arab Emirates. I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mountain Lion. For some odd reason, the iMessage status shows as 'inactive' in Messages.
How do I turn it on?
Please advise.
Hamza

I am signed in. However, the status of iMessage is "Inactive". I can receive messages from iPhone to my macbook pro but I cannot send.

I just downloaded the new OS X Mountain Lion, and my iMessages status won't change!! How do I fix this?

if you set up only iMessage account, you cannot change the status, because iMessage has no status.
You should set up another service (for example AIM) with status service. Initially I didn't understand this "issue" too, but it is correct.

  • IMessages status is stuck in offline

My iMessages status is stuck in offline. When I try to click "available" it doesn't change.

    Hi,
The Messages app may well be set to Off line if the Bonjour account is Not active and you only have the iMessages account and Bonjour.
The Status setting only refers to Buddy Lists (As in iChat).
The iMessages is either Enabled (and therefore Logged in and Active) or not.
Other than error messages telling you a iMessage cannot be sent there is no  way of knowing (well you do see "Delivered" and "Read" under sent messages).

  • IMessage status problem in 10.8

Just upgraded and everything seemed fine.  However, I just discovered that my iMessage status in the menu bar is 'Offline' and when I try to click 'Available' nothing happens.  In the iMessage app, the 'Messages>My Status' menu items are all dimmed.  I have confirmed that the correct me.com account information is listed in the preferences, and also that messages sent via my computer are synched with my iPhone.  However, nothing is coming in.
One more thing: there used to be a synch button in the menu bar, but is no longer there - is this normal?

    HI,
In Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts is the iMessages "Account" Enabled ?
The @me.com name is the one you have "registered" for iMessages ?  - It is also possible to use it as a Valid AIM  Screen Name which needs a separate entry as an AIM account in the Messages Preferences.
Everyone should also have a Bonjour account.
You may have other transferred from iChat.
The default is to have these show as one Buddy List
In this state the "Buddy list" can be set to have one Status but you may find that another of the collected Buddy lists is overriding this.
Go to Messages Menu > Preferences > General section.
Untick the item that gathers all the Accounts in to one Buddy list so that they show separately.
Go to the Status of each Buddy List and make sure it is what you want.
Also check the bottom of the Menu is not set to Make All Statuses the Same.
If these don't solve it there are other step we can take.
It is late where I am (see local post time) and it maybe a while before I can follow up.

  • IMessage on iPhones with Wi-Fi connectivity

Both I and my wife are on limited plans that exclude cellular data. Therefore we can only send iMessages to each other when we're connected to a wireless network, and it works great. The problem starts when she is temporarily not connected to the Internet.
iMessage does not seem to verify whether the recipient is currently connected to the Internet. It must have done that once at first to allow sending iMessages to that recipient but not afterwards. So if I sent an iMessage while my wife's iPhone is not connected to the Internet, the message gets sent and it will wait until she connects to the Internet even if that is hours later (getting the stamp “delivered”). I thought that the application should check the connectivity status and send as SMS when the recipient is not connected but it doesn't seem to work like that.
By looking at the iMessage status and not seeing the "delivered" stamp I can guess that my wife's iPhone is not connected but there seems to be no way to send a regular SMS text unless I go to the setting and turn iMessaging off.
Has anyone else the same issue?

Refer to the link mentioned below and update the wireless drivers and check for the result.

  • AirDrop from iPad mini to iPhone 5 not working.

I'm trying to drop a picture from my new iPad mini to my iPhone 5. Both have iOS 7.0.2, both are set to airdrop:everyone, both connected to wifi. My phone shows up on my iPad, but once I try to make the transfer, i get the request on my phone but then it instantly says the transfer was cancelled. I can transfer files TO my iPad just fine, but my phone won't take them from my iPad. Any thoughts?

You guys will not believe how I got mine to work. I have been ****** off the past few months because I haven't gotten airdrop to work between my iphone and mac. Sometimes it would work only one way and other times none at all. Well, what I discovered is that I can't send files from the mac to my iphone when I have my phone on do not disturb. I discovered this because I was turning the airdrop feature on and off on my phone to see if it would reset something and I accidentally clicked the moon icon and voila my iphone showed up on my airdrop screen on the mac. However, my phone still couldn't see my mac so I was like, there's no do not disturb feature on the mac. So just out of nowhere it occurred to me to check my imessage account and saw that I had it on offline. I changed it to current itunes song, and boom my mac showed up on airdrop on my phone! Now I did test this out and when I put my phone back on do not disturb, it would disappear from airdrop. However, when I changed my imessage status on my mac to offline, the mac still showed up on my phone. All I know is that this is how I got mine to work. I had already tried the signing in and out of icloud, restarting both devices, etc and nothing worked. I only figured this trick out by accident lol. Reply if anyone gets it to work this way.

  • Does the iMessage protocol provide for "online status" indication?

In iChat, I could set the online status of my AIM account ("Available", "Away", etc.).
Does the iMessage protocol provide for "online status" indication?

    HI,
Messages Beta can do the same indications for the older style iChat Buddy List the same as iChat does/did.
The iMessage Login (the "Account" in the Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts that deals with sending iMessages to iPhones and iPads) does not have the same indicators.
What it does do is indicate the options in the "To" spot for the Name that is currently shown there.
To explain that a bit further.
When you click New Message the Blue Plus icon appears
You can select Contacts from this list and navigate to a Contact in the Address Book
Once you select a Contact their Name is in the "To" spot
If you now click this it becomes a Drop down and the iMessage details they have are marked with a blue Speech bubble.
IF you select an iMessage Contact this way and they are Off Line the name will go red.

  • How do I change my status to online on my iMessages so I can text from my mac?

I like to text from my Mac when I am using it. For some reason, my iMessages haven't updated for awhile. Before, they would update automatically. My status says I'm offline, but it won't let me change it. It's a gray color and I can't even select anything else. I've tried doing it in my preferences, and it is also gray and won't let me select anything else. Any ideas in how I can fix this?

    Hi,
    Lets be clear.
If you only have an iMessages account active in Messages on the Mac you will not see if the Account is On line or not.
The Status Item in the drop down Menu is a hold over from when the App was iChat and works only when an Account that has a Buddy list (even if not displayed) is Enabled (Bonjour, Aim, Jabber, Yahoo).
As everyone has the Bonjour Account you can enable this for the Status item to change the Status  (not that it effects the iMessages account at all).
IF the Messages Menu > Preferences item is also greyed out and you cannot access anything you have an issue with the AppleGothic.ttf Font.
    Open the Font Book.
Scroll to the bottom of the List (several Apple ones are here).
Highlight the AppleGothic one and use the File Menu > Validate
Also make sure it is not duplicated (or if it is that one is Turned Off).
At this point restart the Mac.
If this does not solve the issue navigate to Hard Drive Name/Library/Fonts
Highlight the Font and then use the Duplicate option in the Finder's File Menu.
Delete the original and change the Duplicates name to the original name.

  • Imessage showing not delivered status..in mac mini

    Hi all,
I am using mac mini with new Yosemite OS, my imessage sign in with my user id , but if i ping any online recipient, status shows not delivered.same apple id account i login in same mac mini with another user login account its working. is the user profile issue or any other issue?

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • How do I disable typing status in iMessage?

There is no button or anything in Settings>Messages...
I just don't want people to know when I'm typing or not...

This is no different than the read receips that e-mail clients provide (ie: Outlook). Note however that these always come with a choice. As a sender I can choose to request a read receipt or not, and as a receiver I can choose whether I want to acknowledge that I have read it or not.
Also note that iMessage DOES let you choose whether read receipts are enabled, but doesn't allow you to disable typing indication. The fact that you have to choose between not using iMessage at all or having the transparency imposed upon you makes very little sense.
Personal banter aside, the reality is that different social circumstances DO warrant different communication mechanisms (would you like it if your email client sent out a typing receipt when you started writing somebody an email?). There are several situations, both personal and professional (communicating with clients, across organizational hierarchies, and yes - unfortunately in our day and age, SMS flirting) where typing indication is NOT desireable for the situation.
Point is there's no good reason to NOT provide the option. Apple has made it a choice for read receipts (they probably thought they would get hosed by privacy concerns if they didn't). So why exactly should we have one but not the other?

  • Issues with iMessage when switching data carrier (wifi - cellular)

So I have had this issue with my 5S and now my 6+ in iMessage. Not *always* but often enough I've run into issues sending messages via iMessage when I associate with wifi in that they don't send. I'll get an error message saying "not delivered" and it will stack as many outgoing messages I try to send. However, if I force the first message to send as text, subsequent messages will go through afterwards without issue. If I go from wifi to cellular I have no issues whatsoever and when I have these issues on wifi, my data works fine (incoming emails, Facebook notifications, etc.). I used to run cellular data only because I had unlimited but now I have a cap so I intend on using wifi when possible...but to have to send my first message as a text just so I can use iMessage is annoying...

    Hi there BigDogg795,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps for iMessage found in the article below.
iOS: Troubleshooting Messages - Apple Support
To resolve issues with sending and receiving iMessages, follow these steps
Check iMessage system status for current service issues.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make sure that you registered iMessage with your phone number or Apple ID and that you selected iMessage for use. If the phone number or Apple ID isn't available for use, troubleshoot iMessage registration.
Open Safari and navigate to www.apple.com to verify data connectivity. If a data connection isn't available, troubleshoot cellular data or a Wi-Fi connection.
iMessage over cellular data might not be available while you're on a call. Only 3G and faster GSM networks support simultaneous data and voice calls. Learn which network your phone supports. If your network doesn't support simultaneous data and voice calls, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on to use iMessage while you're on a call.
    Restart your device.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
If you still can't send or receive an iMessage, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Make sure that the contact you're trying to send a message to is registered with iMessage.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact in the Contacts app. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
Back up and restore your device as new.
