Imovie 9.0.9 limited functionality

Problems:
I can add only add footage imported after the update to a project (both new and pre-existing) my previously imported footage will only play in the event window. It gives a grey preview window and requires a restart of the program when added to a project.
I assume it is a fault either with the update itself and its recognition of existing events or the events themselves, although I had no problems with them prior to the update.
Background/Information:
I updated imovie 9.0.6? to 9.0.9 two days ago hoping it would fix the problems I encountered when I updated to imovie 11 a few months ago.
At first I had problems updating it because the app store kept asking me to sign in with the apple i.d I had purchased imovie with - I already was. Anyway, I used a suggestion someone had posted on here (send the old version to trash and then go into the app store). I used imovie briefly that same night, testing to see if I could reverse a clip (something I couldn't do without crashing the previous version of imovie 11) it worked without a problem.
Today I went to actually try some video editing. I created a new project and dragged over a song from itunes, it moved no problem. I tried copying a clip into my project and found the clip only showed when i changed the number of frames per thumbnail. When I tried to play the clip nothing happened. No sound and a grey preview window. I closed imovie and reopened it to find the clip had disappeared from the project.
I tested other existing projects and couldn't add clips or play them either - some had sound but it didn't match what it was supposed to be.
I tried importing a new clip and it imported without issue. I addded that to my project and I could hear it - and the song from itunes but there was still no picture. I closed and opened imovie and I could see and hear the clip in the project.
I've noticed that every time I click on a different event imovie goes red in 'activity monitor' and says 'not responding' it has started to respond after a few minutes but it is getting tedious.
Fixes I've Tried:
I've tried deleting the .plist and having imovie rebuild it, it made no difference.
I've deleted the cache files for the events I'm trying to use (initially that made imovie unresponsive when reopened) but that has also had no effect.
Any advice or suggestions for possible fixes would be appreciated.

My suggestion would be to go to your event in the Finder. Move to the Trash the Thumbnails folder, the Cache Folder, and the Stabilization folder (if there is one). Make sure not to delete your actual clips, which are in the Event folder, but not in one of these subfolders that you trash.
After trashing these folders, restart iMovie and let it generate thumbnails.

My USB drives have "Disk Repair" issues, with "limited functionality."

The only way I can transfer files between my PowerMac G4 with OS X v10.5.2 and my PowerMac 5500/225 with OS 8.6 is with Iomega Zip drives. My 100 MB disks work perfectly in OS 8.6 but they seem to get corrupted when I open them on the G4. I've had this problem with other USB drives on the G4, including an external USB hard drive and my USB SD card reader. Things will seem to work fine transferring files but then I'll get the following message:

+The disk "disk" was not repairable by this computer. It is being made available to you with limited functionality. You must back up your data and reformat the disk as soon as possible.+
Then I drag the files over with the Zip drive until everything blows up and I have to reformat the disk. I'm scared what might happen with the SD cards, if that will have any effect on the camera or if the disk will stop working entirely. The external hard drive was the first to blow up but we didn't know that this was going to be a trend so we had returned that to Best Buy. It had worked beautifully under OS X v.10.3.
Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on here and how to fix it? I do not have vast sums to upgrade hardware and software nor do I even really want to. I'm quite fond of the old Power Mac 5500 and OS 8.6.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Have you tried backing up again by manually running a Time Machine backup? Unfortunately, if your backup is corrupted I don't know of a way to fix it except to start over.

After upgrading I have one particular problem in Safari that is annoying the **** out of me. When on Facebook I only have limited functionality. I can click on videos and apps with my mouse but I cannot type in any text fields. Facebook works fine in Firefox......what happened?

Also, if you are running Safari in 64 bit mode, try running in 32-bit mode instead. Select 32 bit mode. Quit Safari then relaunch.
And repair disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Limited function of iworks

Am I missing something? Can you update you keynote, numbers files to your idisk that I pad $100 for with mobile me??? Do I need to buy an account online with iworks????

I think the lack of iDisk integration demonstrates that this is quite a rushed effort by Apple. Another example of limited function is the limited direct export option available to people using Numbers app with a PC, since .pdf and numbers '09 are the only exported file formats and Numbers '09 isn't currently available for PC and .pdf isn't a spreadsheet format either, i.e. not very useful app. Clearly very rough around the edges, and clearly the state of the app for the near term.

I have limited functionality using sharepoint with firefox

There are certain views in sharepoint that are only accessible when using activex controls. Firefox is my only browser, which means I have limited functionality attempting to make new pages or visit pages in certain views.

Sharepoint is not a proper cross-platform system. I understand that Sharepoint 2010 is better at talking to Firefox and other non-IE browsers than Sharepoint 2007 and earlier, but it still has problems. Ironically, even some IE users have trouble due to the ActiveX requirements.
I'm confident that workarounds could be implemented with Greasemonkey and other tools to address this on the browser side, but there don't seem to be any that work in a completely compatible way. There are certainly dozens of HTML editors which work nicely in Firefox which could get linked in either through a client-side add-on or by modifying behavior on the server.
At least two HTML editors are built into plugins which allow you to right-click on a textarea and edit the contents in a more WYSIWYG manner. I tried the Write Area and Xinha addons, and they both pop up a new HTML window for editing with just a right-click. Unfortunately, Sharepoint has a lot of mucky CSS which causes the pristine HTML coming out of those editors to be rendered in an ugly way. We need a rich text editor that can inherit all of the CSS that Sharepoint serves up yet still work in a nice way.
There are some sites which describe how to serve up FCKeditor, TinyMCE, and other rich text editors from the server side. Here are a few for TinyMCE:

Of course, the text editor is just one of many things that are screwy about Sharepoint. Someone ought to put together a whole project to gather together the various bits needed to make Sharepoint better for cross-platform users.

I'd rather see companies use something other than Sharepoint for internal wiki-ish sites. Despite the marketing, many Sharepoint sites do little more than share Word and Excel documents. There are many good alternative systems which are much better at promoting collaboration.

Windows 8.1 Problem - Blank Screen after Login but Cursor Works and Limited Functionality

I have a Sony Vaio All in One Touch Screen. It is running Windows 8.1 and today I can't get to the Desktop or see the normal windows Metro interface. I get a black screen and I can move the cursor around, using various keys I can get Task Manager and
Explorer and some limited help functions up, but not the standard Windows Desktop or Metro interface. Any thoughts?

The situation you descripted should be related to a service or software conflict, as well as a hardware driver problem, to confirm this, try to boot your computer in safe mode, Safe mode Starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services:

if the problem disappear, indeed, this should be caused by a service a hardware driver, you can log on in normal mode and perform a clean boot to fix this:
1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
2. Type msconfig in the search box, and then tap or click msconfig.

If the problem doesn't reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers and services as possible causes, you shoud turn to the computer vendor where you purchased the computer for harware support.

Airport Express in Bridge Mode.. No AirTunes, limited functionality

I can only get my internet connection working through my Airport Express (AE) in bridge mode (i.e. the AE connects using 'Ethernet' as opposed to PPoE or WDV).
My computer is then able to connect to the internet using PPPoE.
Interestingly, the amber light is flashing although the internet connection is working fine.
Also, I cannot use AirTunes, and Airport Admin Utility cannot see the Airport Express.
Now, if I go into System Preferences>Network and disable PPPoE and check DHCP instead, I can see the Airport Express in Airport Admin Utility, the light becomes solid green and AirTunes starts working... BUT... my internet connection stops working!
Alternatively, I can now go into Airport Admin Utility and configure the AE to connect using PPPoE. However, no matter what settings I input in System Preferences>Network, the internet connection does not work. However AirTunes does work, the light is green and I can find the Airport in Airport Admin Utility.
It wasn't always like this. Sometime in late November / early December my Airport Express suddenly stopped connecting to the internet. Since then I've been trying very hard to get it working again, with numerous resets etc but its just not happening!
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I should do?

However I've tried on numerous occasions to configure the AX to connect to my ISP using PPPoE but it's always "looking for a PPPoE host". In addition, my ISP tells me that when I try and connect through the AX they dont see any requests coming in.
Was there a firmware or similar upgrade sometime in late November or early December of this year? I'm asking because all was fine prior to this period, after which internet through the AX only works in bridge mode, with the amber light flashing and no AirTunes functionality. Perhaps if i roll back the driver/firmware then it will start working again?
Also, is it a limitation of the AX that you cannot use AirTunes or even Airport Admin Utility to configure the AX when the AX is in bridge mode and the computer is not using DHCP to communicate with the AX? That doesnt seem to make much sense to me.

Slow iMovie - Does it has limitation in the amount of video files it can edit?

I would like to do some videoediting of holidays video with my iMac i7 12gb ram.
I have imported with iMovie my dv video and this worked fine. But starting from a certain point iMovie became really slow. Thinking of a memory issue, I added 8gb ram (now 12) but the problem persisted. So I decided to move video files from mac hdd to my gbit lan NAS, and than I got a firewire800 hdd.
I got a MyBook Studio II (http://wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=210) which I tried using first RAID1 and than to increase speed I configured into RAID0.
Now, what I noticed is that if the project has a total of:
- 29gb of video files, editing the project (move, delete, add) and play works quite fine. (project file size about:17mb)
- 53gb of video files, editing is slow (about 7sec to move or delete a clip) (project file size about:128mb)
This happens both if the video and pj files are on the iMac hdd or in the firewire one.
Does anyone of you know if iMovie has some limitations in the amount of video files it can edit, or if it is not performing correctly under certains conditions?
Furthermore I will start editing 1080/50p video since I got a new camera. Keep going with iMovie is the right way? Do you suggest other products?

It appears you have enough processor speed, memory, and hard drives.
Once these are taken care of, there are two main things that cause slowness
1) Events should be logical events. You should not dump all your footage into a single event. A project can use clips from multiple events and the performance is fine. In DV for example, an event should hold maybe two tapes maximum. If a single tape has three logical events: say Birthiday, Vacation, and Christmas, make three events.
2) if you editing feature length movies, you should use Final Cut Pro X. For short movies iMovie is fine. For movies in the middle, it is more of a judgment call. The reason is that iMovie renders everything in one pass. Final cut Pro does background rendering as you go. If this were the case for you, you would be able to edit at full speed, and you would only notice the slowness or a crash when you shared the movie.

LabView 8.5 evalaution version has limited functions

The problem is that your menu is customized for Express VI.
To change that, right click on the block diagram and bring the "Function" panel up. Click on the "pin" on the right hand side to fix. Now you will see the View button. Click on that and you will see "Change Visible Categories" and select that. A window with Change Visible Categories will come up and you can select all and OK.
At this point, you should be able to see all the pallettes available and you can appreciate better all the power of LabVIEW!

ARD 3 and Tiger - Limited Functionality

I've been using ARD for the last year and a half without any issues. I upgraded to ARD 3.0 on Panther, then recently upgraded to Tiger about a week ago. Although I still have full functionality in 3.0 on Panther, most of the options (Copy, Install, UNIX, reports, etc) are unavailable when I login to Tiger (they're essentially greyed out). Full functionality is available for the default local admin account only, but none of the LDAP/AD accounts that we use.
The LDAP/AD accounts I'm using are administrators and have also been added to the sudoers file. I've also given access to the LDAP/AD global groups to use ARD, but as I mentioned, functionality/access is limited. The configuration hasn't changed, so I'm not sure why it stopped working. Everything works on Panther - it's as though Tiger isn't recognizing the ARD users as administrators. Again, these aren't local accounts, but they are administrators and have sudo access.
Any ideas?

We've experienced this problem in our corporate environment, but I've seen it work on other Active Directory networks. Even if I choose "Allow user to administer this computer" option, it still doesn't work.
I'm curious to know why this would work on one AD network, but not another. Another thing I've noticed within Tiger is that if we add an LDAP (AD) group (%groupname) to the sudoers file, it doesn't recognize that group either. It's as though Tiger isn't able to interpret admin access from any LDAP group, which is getting really annoying. We've basically put off upgrading to Tiger because administrative access (ARD, sudoers, CLI, etc) is not recognized from our LDAP/AD groups... You would think this would have been addressed by now, considering they're on 10.4.8...

Contract and PO using limits functionality

Hi Experts,
I have a requirement by the business to use the unplanned services for PO. All the PO are refer to contract. All the contract are value contract only. They dont want any quanity or unit price define in the contract. Just the total contract amount only.
Is it possible to create contract without using the service master defining only the limits? If this is possible please tell me the necessary configuration. In my present system service master is mandatory now.
secondly, Is it OK if i create a value contract with the account assignment Unkown and itemcategory blank. So that I need not meantion the service limits or the service master. I will create service PO using the contract and define the limits in PO.
Is it a std process if I process like the way I mentioned.

Indesign CC trial on Win 7 64bit The program has limited mouse funtion. I have to use TAB to move between groups and the arrow keys to go up and down. I have used this program before on other computers and this was not an issue. Can't find a setting that make a difference. Help!

IMovie 09: Possible Titles Limitation

With two iMovie 09 projects, I've tried to add more than twelve titles, but it won't allow any more. Has anyone else come across this or is this a known feature? I have plenty or RAM and my videos are in standard def and no longer than five minutes. The title I've been using is "Four Corners".

Yeah, I took the single clip and split it and got the same issue. But the thing is...why would applying multiple titles to one five minute clip not be allowable? Anyway, yesterday I tried adding multiple non-animated titles and found that it was unlimited, but then once I tried to apply an animated title, specifically Four Corners, iMovie would not apply the title. So the application IS restricting the amount of animated titles, I just wonder why the application would be designed that way???
