IMovie saves and reloads an empty file

I am using iMovie 6.0.4 (267.4) on my G4 DP 1.25 GHz, 2 GB RAM. When i save my 12 GB iMovie to another drive in my G4, iMovie reloads the movie that was just saved and closes the original. The reloaded version is empty sometimes. How can the reloading step be prevented? I have the same version of iMovie on a 2nd drive and the "about iMove" has the same version numbers yet it thinks the other version is older and gives warning messages of "the file was made with an older version and that the saved iMovie may not be readable with the older iMovie edition." The original 12 GB iMovie file can be saved OK but, when saved as, the original 12 GB file is closed and an empty 8 MB iMovie is loaded with no data sometimes. My two drives with iMovie on each are mirror drives yet iMovie thinks hey are different. I work on the same file on the 2 mirror drives and jump back and forth. The originally saved iMovie file is OK. My system gets a regular DiskWarrior treatment but that doesn't stop iMovie from reloading an empty iMovie when I save the project with the save as option. iMovie prefs has no way to stop the reloading function. I tried saving as, and iMovie takes about 11 minutes to save. iMovie then loads an empty 8.4 MB iMovie file. I repaired permissions and tried to save again getting the same results of loading an empty iMovie file with the same name as the saved file. I close this file and don't save.

I have similar problem. We are producing a 70 meg browser based game and would like the user to be able to cache the game to avoid reloading the game the next time. Can this be done if the user authorise the save? If, so how? We don't care where the game is cached .
Can we prompt the user to download the file by providing a link from within the SWF application?

Save and Reload old pages?

I am having trouble publishing my site for whatever ISP or firewall ect. reason. When my site was just a few pages I could publish, yet as I have built a few additional Sites within iWeb I connection and publishing errors, plus the fact that it tries to republish all 37MB of the 4 Sites each time I want to update. So here is my attempt at a work around.
Find the folder where each Site and its pages are saved and then drag those out and back in only when I need to update each particular site.
Where are the Sites and their respective pages saved on the harddrive and do you think my idea would work? or is this not even possible.

Ouch! I found and tried iWebSites but when I went to look for the Domain.Sites folder in the iWeb folder in application support, there was none there nor on a system wide search(its called "Domain" in 1.1.2 which I have)...i did find one on my 2nd hard drive and so I clicked that one and bam. it loaded a blank iWeb. Strange thing was, a "Domain" file appeared in my Users folder and I clicked that and the original Site file loaded but only an earlier version of first site(not including the latest changes from yesterday) and not the other 3 sites that were apart of that original "Domain" file.
I have the other 3 sites folders from a "save to folder" operation but my question is how can I reload those into iWeb for editing..I think I am done for on this one as these are .html files etc.
Any solution beyond having to completely rebuild those other 3 sites? Is there a way to reload those old sites or find them stored as separate Domain files somewhere on the computer that are not being found by a regular search? Wonder
why the original "Domain" folder was not in the `/library/applications support/iweb folder?

There's example of varies file types.Yes, I did try some examples.
Those work for .doc/.pdf/.jpg files, BUT NOT for excel file.
The following error happened when retrieving excel file(retrieving .doc/.pdf are OK)

FYI TDMS open and read on empty file gives no error's out

I found that if you 'open' an empty (0 byte) file using TDMS open, you will not get any error messages when you open it, nor when you call functions such as "Get properties" or "List content", also no error when you close the TDMS file.
If the file is non-empty, but not a valid TDMS file, TDMS open returns an error.
I would have expected that I would get an error or a warning at least when trying to read a non-existant property or group, if not by the open function itself?!
The 2013 snippet below creates a 1-byte or empty file in the local user temporary folder, closes the file, then attempts to open and read it as a TDMS file. The temporary file is deleted afterwards.
If the file is empty, NO errors or warnings occur at any point. If the file is not empty, it fails on the TDMS open. (Note the sequence structure is because the path out of the tdms close is invalid if the tdms open failed.
This could conceivably cause an issue if your program does not do additional fault checking to catch existing but empty files. (Which of course shouldn't ever happen, but in some situations it could happen.)

I asked to list the channels in a named group. If that named group did not exist, I would think that should at least be a warning, but I could see how it should not be an error, it was just unexpected to me that reading a non existant group (in an empty file) did not indicate any issues at all. To me, 'error out' should give a warning or an error if something unexpected happened, but I may just have stricter opinion on something that by nature is very philosophical and open for debate. (And there are always tradeoffs, overt checks and bounds in a function obviously leads to overhead, and TDMS is optimized for performance, so that may be one reason it is the way it is.)
(This situation came up for me because when a file is first created, we datetime tag it and write a bunch of other meta-data to the file, then later (and over time) we add the spectrum goup + data. [Edit] actually, in the old code, if the file existed, it was assumed to have been setup correctly. so if the group exists, the old code assumed all the meta data has already been written [end edit].. One of the many fixes possible, I'll rely on the 'found' boolean output of the parameter read instead of relying on the error/warning. If the datetime tag is found, the code will asume the file exists and has been filled with the meta data I expect.)

As long as you are using the Report Generation Toolkit, there is no need to use ActiveX for the purpose of saving the Excel file -- Save Report will do that for you. You can then export (as text) all of the Excel data and use the Write Spreadsheet File to make the .CSV file. Here is how I would rewrite the final bits of your code --
I cleaned up the wires around Excel Easy Table a bit. You'll see I made a VI Icon for Replace Filename, which does (I think) a nicer job of self-documenting than showing its Label. To make the filename, add the correct extension (.xlsx for Excel, .csv for CSV), use Build Path to combine Folder and Filename, and wire to Save Report.
The next two functions add the Extract Everything and Write to Spreadsheet, using a Comma as a separator, which makes a CSV copy for you.

[BUG] Exporting to xls and xlsx produces empty file

When I'm viewing a table with data, and in Actions choose "Export...", turn off "Export DDL", choose "xls" for format, everything else is on default, and either leave empty or enter same name for both Query and Data worksheet names, and specify filter query - export produces empty xls/xlsx file. Only when one explicitly enters different worksheet names does valid non-empty excel workbook get generated with two differently named worksheets.
Either validation should be added for worksheet names, or generating them automatically on export should be supported.
I'm using Oracle SQL Developer 3.1.07.

Really appreciate you reporting this. There was an earlier, somewhat similar thread on this issue that we blamed on export file size:
Sql Developer 3.1 - Exporting a result set in xls generates and empty file
But you have discovered an important variation that explains it for small export file sizes also. Here is what I verified on 3.1.07.42:
1. Normally if the worksheet names are left untouched (empty), then the names default to Export Worksheet and SQL
2. If the name settings in Tools|Preferences|Database|Utilities|Export|Excel Format are null (empty), there is no problem
3. If the name settings are intentionally changed to a single blank character, then the problem you describe occurs.
So, you may wish to go to the preference settings and intentionally Backspace over each to null it out, then click OK.
In the case of intentionally setting both worksheet names, data and query, to the same non-null value, that is also a problem.

Imovie saves and stills duration

I'm having really frustrating problems with iMovie 11. Every time I quit and re-open the application it randomly doesn't save parts of my work. Some changes are there - others are lost for ever. This has been happening consistenly over about 5 movies now and it's beyond a joke. I know others have submitted questions about this but I have found no answers.
Also, if you place a still image in a move and specify a duration, iMovie always ignores the length of time you specify and inserts something else. So if you type in 3 it will change it to, say, 2.1 or 4.5 or 1.9. It doesn't make the editing process easy!
Grateful for any help anyone can offer.

How can I reduce the time it takes to save and close my TIF files?

It takes me six clicks to save my manipulated files to tif and close them. Isn't there a way of setting the tif settings so that it doesn't prompt you for them each time?

OK, let me back up a bit and make sure I'm thinking correctly about what I've done. I'll answer Shane's questions here, too.
The video clips were shot on a Panasonic PV-GS500. They are DV Movies - DV/DVCPRO - NTSC. I brought them into iMovie, then I stored them on my desktop and transferred one of them into my FCP project, which is on the external drive I mentioned above. The wav file from the H4n is also stored on my desktop, though I imported it into the project.
Is my project still referencing the original video and audio clips from my desktop? I can see how that would slow things down.

Inability to print or save and open certain PDF files

I am using Adobe Reader XI with Mac OS 10.9.4 and Safari 7.0.6. If I obtain a PDF file online -- for example, an IRS confirmation letter when I obtain a taxpayer ID for a client - if I attempt to print it, it is blank. If I save it on my desktop as a PDF and attempt to open it, I get an error message that it is not a supported file type or the file is damaged. However, I have no problem with PDF files I receive as email attachments, access via dropbox or similar vehicles, or save myself (for example, when printing a Word document, electing to save as a PDF).
This is a major problem for me - but Adobe doesn't offer phone support (even on a paying basis, such as Apple provides). Some weeks ago I was able to initiate a chat about it and told to reinstall, which I did with no change. Now I can't even find out how to initiate a chat because the only trouble-shooting support option is forums.

Here is what you could try.
1.     Go to IRS.gov.
2.     Click on "current forms and publications."
3.     Enter "SS-4."
4.     That should lead to a fill-in form that states at the top that you can save the information.
5.     Fill a bit of arbitrary information in.
6.     Try to print. At that point, I can print, but the pages are blank.
7.     Whether or not you succeed, save as a a PDF on your desktop.
8.     Try to open. At that point, I get the error message I described.
I forgot to mention in my post, I think, that I was able to do the things I described that I need to do (and have in the past always been able to do on my computer) on my wife's computer, which is an Apple that has not been upgraded to Reader XI, Maverick, or Sarari 7.0.6.
As an aside, with the upgrade to Maverick, I've had extensive and ongoing problems with Apple's mail program, to the extent that I'm now assigned a "personal" senior technical analyst with his personal email and phone number. I feel honored, but I'd rather have a working system. As an attorney, my product is blocks of time during which I apply 40+ years of experience - but the result of all of this is that I am spending untold hours of unbillable time because of the (perhaps not unreasonable) problem software designers have of anticipating and resolving the literally of millions of interface problems their programs can have.
I have a question. I know that with Apple, when one is out of warranty and AppleCare, you can pay a nominal amount for telephone support for a given issue. I cannot find anything like that with Adobe.   Is there something? My on-line chat experiences with Adobe attempting to resolve the problems I am encountering were a complete waste of time.

How do i save and access a csv file on my ipad when filling in a smartform. Currently only option goes to photos

search the app store for PDF Writer. I've found a lot that will convert documents to PDF, but none yet that will write within the PDF. One thing you want to avoid are cloud based apps. Any of them that talk about editing on the cloud, etc, aren't going to be as standalone as you want.
It's possible, if you can take your template PDF, turn it into a word document that you can edit, you can then convert that to PDF...kinda a workaround way to do what you want. And apps that convert to PDF are much easier to find

Missing Conref when I save and reopen an .xml file in FM9

I am running FM9 on Windows 7. We have been using the template and rules files shipped with FM9 and modifying them for our needs. Currently I am experiencing an issue and I'm not at all sure how to resolve it.
I have two pieces of DITA content, they are both reference files created by using the DITA menu and creating a new <reference> file. I have entered my structured content into the two files and I want to include a conref from the source document B into my document A. I insert the conref into document A using the FM DITA menu and save both files as .xml. The files save without any errors. When I open document A the conref text is missing and all that is left is a blank reference element (created by the insertion of the conref). If I open the source document everything is fine. I also have an xref in document A and that seems to be working fine. My coworker is having the exact same issue. I am referencing a reference element with an unordered list.
Also, if I save file A as .fm the conref stays which leads me to believe it has something to do with how FrameMaker is reading the .xml file.
Any assistance would be appreciated,

Hi Laura...
If the "auto-load conrefs" option is off, your conrefs will not be rendered. This is "as designed" so that you can disable the conref updating if it's taking too long to rebuild all of the conrefs each time you open a file.. The "auto-load xrefs" option should work the same way, although this may have changed in FM9 since all xrefs are really "fm-xrefs" inside of FM. If the xrefs are rendering the same regardless of the option's setting, then that's a bug (I'd think).
So .. with the auto-load option enabled, your conrefs are working?

Illustrator CS4 removing artboards when i save and re-open the file

I'm using Illustrator CS4 and have multiple artboards set up in a single .ai file. The problem is when I save the .ai file and then close it, when I reopen the file it removes all instances of my previous artboards and replaces it with a single one. Why is this happening? It just started doing this - I was able to open up the file previously and maintain my current list of artboards.

Can't properly save and use script (Perl) files

I can't get Perl scripts in my path to properly run under Mac OS X (10.5.2). I'm using Smultron to edit the files, and have also taken them into nano via Terminal and saved both as DOS and Mac formats. When I save as DOS, I get this when I run the file:
/usr/bin/perl^M: bad interpreter: No such file or directory
I assume it's having problem interpreting the DOS CR/LF character and shows "^M" as a result. When I save in "Mac" format, the script does nothing (not even an error) when I run it. If I cat the Mac formatted script, it doesn't display properly:
$ cat perlscript.pl
$ FG,SWITCHCFG); shutports/ig) {(.+)/ig) {
(You're seeing a tiny portion of the script there; not even the end of it - but that's all it shows.) If I save in the DOS format, I can workaround the problem by running it as "perl path/scriptname.pl"; this eliminates the misinterpretation of !#user/bin/perl^M above. What am I doing wrong? Can I not run perl scripts that are in my path without typing the longhand "perl pathlist/filename"? Thanks.

Yes, it's executable; it tries to execute either way.
The Unix LF through Smultron seemed to work. However, I don't see such an option in nano - only Mac and DOS. (I'm not too concerned, I'm pretty sure I"ll use Smultron on a regular basis to edit these files.)

How can I save and reload existing BIOS on a T61?

Have a T61 with a back level BIOS version. Plan to upgrade HD from 250GB to 500GB. If I have to upgrade BIOS want to save existing BIOS in case any problems with new BIOS. Lenovo site does not have existing level available for download.
Downloaded 2 different versions of WINPHLASH and tried to save BIOS, Got message that existing BIOS location is wrong. Don't understand this as I have saved and loaded BIOS many times on other motherboards. Neither version of this utility came with any instructions.
Am I using the right utility? If not what should I download to save my BIOS? There is reference to 2 different forms of BIOS in this Thinkpad when I use the Thinkvantage utility to check BIOS levels. What are the 2 different forms and how do you back up and restore both of them?
