Impact of enabling REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE

Dear Experts,
We have configured the onlite split mirror backup in our production system and it is getting completed with a warning message that pfile cannot be created from spfile in remote OPS$ connect mode in unix platform and for this we need to enable the parameter remote_login_passwordfile to exclusive.
Just want to know what would be the impact of enabling this parameter in live production system. Will there be any security breaches and side effects.
Please let me know asap as we need to enable and appreciate the quick response.
Regards
Sharath

  • Impact of enabling Conversion in transfer rule

    Hi Experts,
    From last two days I am facing an issue while loading the data in a object which has conversion exit as ALPHA.
    When any numeric value is coming it ig giving an error message, i searched SDN and found out that in tranfer rule if
    I enable conversion(check box) this will get resolved.
    Now I am not sure of the impact of enabling this conversion, this is an attribute of 0WBS_ELEMT.
    Please suggest.

    Hi Vivek,
    You use ALPHA conversion for the fields which have the type "CHAR" but expecting numerical values to be stored in there. If you do the conversion the conversion routine will pad the numerical values with leading zeros.
    If this is not the information that you are seeking, pls tell us what error you are receiving in the transformation and which check box are you mentioning.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,

  • Impact of enabling Calendar Repair Assistant on Exchange 2010 mailbox server

    We have a couple of iPhone users reported they were having calendar items disappear from their calendars. Many suggest to enable Calendar Repair Assistant for those users on mailbox servers. We are running Exchange 2010 SP2 RU7.  Do
    you know if there's any impact like performance when enabling Calendar Repair Assistant ? What's your best practice? Thanks in Advance !!
    This posting is provided AS-IS with no warranties/guarantees and confers no rights.

    Hi,
    The Calendar Repair Assistant is used to detect and correct inconsistencies with single and recurring meeting items for mailboxes located on the Mailbox server. Then recipients won't miss meeting announcements or have unreliable meeting information. Based
    on my knowledge, there is no official article mentioning that enabling Calendar Repair Assistant has an impact on performance.
    Hope my clarification can be helpful to you.

  • Impact of enabling Manufacturer Part Number feature

    Hi,
    Please note that I would like to activate Manufacturer Part Number (MPN) of SAP. I want
    to record MPN no of own material, Manufaturer detail in material master.
    This is for recording those details in MMR. The point is that when I activate MPN indicator in OMT0
    then only mfr part number, Manufact, mfr part profile fields are appearing.
    What is the impact of it?
    So please provide your comments on the same.
    Regards,

    Edited by: Partha MM on Jul 16, 2011 10:32 AM

    Activate the MPN in OMT0.
    In OMT3B, select 21 screen seq, and click on data screen, select purchasing and click on subscreen, and replace the screen no 0001 with 2313, then you will get the same in purchasing view for all material types.
    REAL TIME SCENERIO: When the parts are manufactured at a plant and procured at that time, in case if any defective piece is there or any problem arises, at that time, the vendor confirms the rejection for the Manufacture part number, so it is entered in the MMR.
    You can see the settings here also: SPRO --> MM --> Purchasing --> MM --> Define manufg,. part profiles, this is used to define the profiles.

    1- Transactions can use an additional time after auditing turned on.
    2- You can have also an additional CPU Usage after auditing turned on.

  • Infrastructure Navigator considerations or negative impacts

    Hello.  I have navigator installed in our test environment and it seems pretty straight forward.  You can turn it on or off through the web client.  It maps alot of the heavy hitter applications by default.  I have a couple questions before I put it into production though.
    1.  Our production environment is setup differently than my lab.  There are 3 datacenters in prod and one in my lab.  Does Navigator see all VMs in all datacenters within one virtual center?
    2.  Are there any negative security or performance impacts by enabling navigator?
    Thanks for your input!

    Hello CHJamey,
    Here are the answers to your questions:
    1. Indeed.  The VIN will detect all traffic in the VC it's installed within.  You'll see all 3 datacenters and the lab.
    2. There aren't any negative security or performance impacts.  VIN uses a secure channel to detect the services and traffic occurring in your VC, and you'll not feel an impact in your production environment.
    Hope those answers help!

  • Risky enable star transformations and trusted Query Rewrites?

    Hi,
    I need some advice/opinions from someone experienced with large scale
    data warehousing.
    I'm working on a fairly large data warehouse (around 3 TB), and we're
    using Oracle 10.1.0.2.0.
    So, I found out about MV's and Star Transformations, and that we're not
    using them.
    Naturally I decided to try them out in our test environment and I was
    more than pleased (actually, I nearly wet my pants) with the potential
    performance boost we could get for some of our more critical solutions.
    However, I also noticed that the production environment has the
    following settings:
    star_transformation_enabled = false
    query_rewrite_integrity = enforced
    ...which basically disables all the cool stuff. In the testing
    environment I used the following:
    star_transformation_enabled = true
    query_rewrite_integrity = trusted (to make use of func. dep in
    dimensions)
    I would like to stand on somewhat solid grounds and increase my
    understanding before aproaching our DBA's with the suggestion to change
    system global settings :)
    Basically, my question(s) are:
    1. What are the impact of enabling Star Transformations on a system?
    Is there any at all, if no previous solution has been built in a way
    to
    make use of star transformations?
    Or could this change result in fine-tuned queries performing badly
    since they
    suddenly make use of star transformations?
    2. Is "query_rewrite_integrity" used by Oracle for other things besides
    Materialized Views?
    I'm thinking, if the only thing it's used for is to resolve query
    rewrites for MV's, then it's safe to change it, because there are no
    such MV's.
    Note that I'd like to set it to TRUSTED, in order to make real use
    of the dependencies declared with CREATE DIMENSION...
    I would be happy to know what you think about this.
    Any thoughts, opinions are welcome since this is new grounds for me.
    Best Regards

  • Controlling button enablement in multiple windows

    I have a toolbar that I created for a plugin. I am using AVComputeEnabedProc to enable and disable buttons. I would like to show the buttons in more than one AVWindow at a time, and have events in one window affect whether or not the button is enabled or disabled in the toolbar in other windows.  Any number may be enabled or disabled at a given time, so I can't ask the AVApp for the active doc to determine enabled or disabled.  I need to know which AVWindow each button (or its toolbar) is associated with.  How can I get that information?

    You can’t impact the enablement of the buttons in another window since depending on the OS platform (and version of Acrobat), there may only be one set of buttons for all windows.

  • Oracle Data Modeler - Impact Analysis option

    Hi
    I am using Oracle Data Modeler 3.1.0683 and reversed engineering my existing relational models to logical models. I have 3 relational models and reverse engineering it to 1 logical model.
    In logical model under enity's propoerties -> impact analysis how do I add which relational table the logical entity depends on? For example in relational models i have table Class, Student, teacher in 3 separate relation model. Logical i created entity Person which depends on table Student from relational model 1, and teacher from relational model 2, I want to view(add) these tables under "Impact Analysis".
    The help window says
    <quote>
    +"Impact Analysis+
    +Enables you to view and specify information to be used by Oracle Warehouse Builder for impact analysis."+
    </quote>
    Though i couldnt figure out where to specify?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Lahoria

    So any suggestions how can I bring those table ( as i mentioned in original post) to show up in Impact AnalysisIf your entity is result of reverse engineering from relational model then you can find related table under mappings. The same if you engineer logical model to relational model.
    If you start from column then you can see related attribute in logical model and usage in data flow diagrams and dimensional models

  • Performance Issue when turning on Retention Policy

    Hello,
    I am currently in the process of enabling retention policy for my organization. We have 18,000+ mailboxes. How much of a performance impact (if any) will it be to the end users if we were to enable retention polices for so many mailboxes at once?
    We have not had retentions enabled for about 3 years and the goals to basically delete/purge anything over 15 months. I tried doing some research on this and can't seem to find any topics pertaining to this particular question.
    Thanks,
    Emmanuel
    Emmanuel Fumero Exchange Administrator

    The user impact of enabling retention on this many mailboxes at once is not your primary issue - your primary issue will be how long it will take to complete the process on all of your mailboxes so it can "just keep up" from that point onward.
    I'll give you some information about our own results and let you decide how you wish to implement retention for your users.
    We have 14,000+ mailboxes running on Exchange 2010, fully updated.  We migrated three years ago from "another messaging platform" well known for allowing users to have huge mailboxes with little or no capability to restrict how large the
    mailboxes grew - and they grew.  When I started here, our average mailbox size had just popped over 2GB, and our corporate target mailbox size limit was 2GB.  We had mailboxes over 30GB, and messages older than 10 years (our corporate retention policy
    states no emails older than 7 years is allowed).  We were tasked with implementing retention across the board, with the following settings:
    Daily emails will be kept only for 60 days, and can be recovered (if necessary) for another 60 days
    Working emails (things needed for projects, etc) can be kept for 2 years, and can be recovered (if necessary) for another 60 days
    Messages required for legal reasons can be kept for up to 7 years, and can't be recovered if they are deleted
    Messages saved for legal reasons do not count against the 2 GB mailbox size limit
    Due to my previous experience implementing retention (when I was a consultant focused on Microsoft Exchange), I knew that deploying to all users at once would cause a hit on our servers (your current fear, and well founded), but I had only deployed to smaller
    organizations, and never in so radical a manner - previously, size limits had been in effect, so retention was just to "maintain the status quo", rather than to hack huge amounts of stale data from the system.  However, we did have huge servers
    (72 GB RAM and 24CPUs, but multirole) that, early on, were not highly taxed (under 15% CPU average during the peak timeframe, and we are in only two time-zones, so all 13,000 users will connect during the 7:00-10:30 Eastern timeframe).  So we determined
    that we would ramp retention across the organization in the same manner that we migrated - each 1000 users would get retention enabled weekly in a phased manner.
    When we started our first group, the IT group (naturally), most users kept their mailboxes relatively small - only 1.8 GB average - so retention ran from Thursday (the day we kicked off the implementation) through the weekend.  However, as each subsequent
    group was placed into retention, we found that the retention task was taking longer and longer.  Toward the end, we had to slip some of our retention groups a day or so because retention for the previous mailboxes hadn't completed.  We attribute
    this to two factors - 1) the mailboxes were larger on average, and B) there were also more and more mailboxes in retention already that also had to be handled.
    In the end, we took 22 weeks to fully implement retention across the organization, and the process took another two weeks to get to the point that is was "running the status quo", rather than yanking huge volumes of stale email out of mailboxes.
    During implementation, our servers' performance numbers were good - still under 30% CPU - and users weren't complaining about poor performance due to that (cached mode is a godsend), but getting the process to complete was our sticking point.  If
    you turn on retention for all 18,000 of your mailboxes at once, you will see some server performance degradation (especially if your servers aren't as beefy as ours), but the process may never have a chance to complete across the board.  Our 22 weeks
    may well take over a year for your mailboxes.
    HTH - you are going to need all the help you can get.  (-;

    you have now two different pfiles: one in c:\temp\initstdby4.ora. and %ORACLE_HOME%\database\initstdby4.ora.
    You are using the latter, as you didn't specify pfile= in your startup mount.
    Also, if you are using a spfile, the only line in a pfile should be: spfile=....
    In your pfile you are mixing up Unix like file locations with \ and Windows file locations with /

    Hi,
    you have a weaker domain security overall. "
    LM Hash Generation
    The algorithm introduces several weaknesses that attackers can exploit. First, all lowercase characters are set to uppercase, reducing the number of possible characters. Second, it splits a long, strong, password into two seven-character chunks.
    Both the LM and NTLM protocols operate essentially the same way; the only difference is the password hash.

    Thanks,

    Ok Thanks ,
    Strange I didn't find any document asking to put both Primary and Standby DB at the same version even they are both 10GR2!
    do you have any document about this ?
    Then, I will try to patch the primary server to 10.2.0.3
    Hope it fix the problem;

  • During switchover operation in IE shows error "503 Service Unavailable".

    Hi,
    I have installed Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.2) on Windows 2003 server service pack 2.Everything works fine, but when I go for switchover/failover operation firstly error comes as “500 Internal Server Error” and then after refreshing the page “503 Service Unavailable”. Following are the logs.
    I applied the patch Grid Control Release 3 (10.2.0.3.0), but still same error occurs.
    Both database status is up and EM console home shows 100% up.
